Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren addresses the New England media during his conference call on Wednesday, December 3, 2008. Q: What's going on out there this season? Obviously, it hasn't unfolded the way I'm sure you hoped it would. MH: Yeah, it's difficult. It's been an unusual year right from the get-go, you know. But I've been very proud of the players. The guys that have been left standing have been going like crazy. We just haven't been quite good enough. We have four games left and there's a lot of pride in the locker room. There's still a good feeling in the locker room, but going through a season like this is new for a lot of them and it's new for me, honestly. My job is to keep them going, keep them playing hard until the end and then next year this type of injury situation shouldn't occur again. Q: No coach or player will ever really use injury as an excuse, but have you charted where your injury situation ranks compared to the rest of the league as far as man games lost? MH: I have not done that. I think we have people here that do that but I've told them I don't really want to be reminded of that or know where it is. I think injuries—the Patriots have had injuries. One of the best players in football got hurt in the first game, so every team gets hurt. I think it's a credit to New England and to Bill [Belichick] that the team is doing so well even after the injuries they've had. They have a good football team and they were able to withstand that, certainly better than we have. I think at times you look at where you get hurt and how that has effected your particular situation. Every team is different, and in our case it was pretty disruptive. Q: Being around the league as long as you have been, are you at all concerned about whether injuries are in general up around the league? Or is that something you might look at after the season? MH: Well, I'm not going to look at much after the season except my motorcycle and my swimming fins. So...

26 Dec 2007
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning addresses the New England media during his conference call on December 26, 2007. Q: You’re playing a team that’s going for history -- They’re 15-0. If you guys could whack them, wouldn’t that be a big boost for you heading into the playoffs as far as your confidence is concerned? EM: I think so. It would definitely help just knowing that you’re playing a good team and having the opportunity to end on a high note. I think the most important thing for us is to play well and to execute well, and from an offensive standpoint, improve on what we’ve been able to do the last few weeks. We look at it as a great opportunity to play a good team. The outcome doesn’t ultimately matter, but you still want to go out there and play good football and perform well. Q: Certainly the outcome matters for the Patriots. EM: It does matter for them. They’re going for a great opportunity to do something that hasn’t been done before. For us, we look at it as a chance to… We have some young guys, especially from an offensive standpoint, who are playing that haven’t had a whole lot of experience. [We have] a new tight end in Kevin Boss, a new running back in Ahmad Bradshaw and Steve Smith’s getting some more reps. It’s an opportunity for those guys to get another great week of preparation in practice and get out there and try to perform at a high level in the game and improve their confidence, their timing and those things on the field. When we get to the playoffs they’ll be another step ahead. Q: Why is your team so good on the road? You guys in the last seven games, I think you’ve won five of those and been not so good at home. What is the reason for that? EM: I don’t know and I wish we were better at home and could win some of those games. I don’t know if it’s just the teams that we’ve played or what, but we’ve been able ...
