We're just the -- you know cannon fodder around here in the in the patriots machinery I understand my place we -- inspect the playbook Brooke yeah exactly. There there. For a third day here the -- the Washington Redskins gets it to go on them on Sunday at 4:15 eastern here moderate -- at Gillette stadium now. Here's a couple of thoughtfully Percival right off the ban on Thursday oh we do ask for your predictions for the score for the final score. -- didn't get too many takers last week and obviously I can understand why it was lopsided it probably would just an exercise in futility there were a couple of good joke -- like you know 85 to nothing in -- that kind of -- and that's but I have to admit that I spent most of the afternoon mountain while not most I've spent about. 20 minutes 25 minutes tops. Going through via the chat that's currently on going on on the Redskins dot com I don't mean to drive -- way I'm not -- what you want to go you know read Redskins drivel anyway but. Fact is that I mentioned this yesterday and I think we've probably talked about this periodically I know the POW as a mentioning you know in in other circles. In other parts that in other teams and other cities -- everybody thinks their team is the end all -- you know to be old handle. Everybody loves -- team everybody expects their team to win. Every week and so that makes you -- delusional well then okay it it makes you homer fine. What ever what do does make you is your -- And fans root for their -- team the root for the own laundry they root for the own colors the root for the own players. I just got a particular kick out of -- you know some of the if I really did not see one intelligent post. And it's a little scary. And I guess maybe you know he's been any time in chat rooms like that than you know what frankly I question your overall level of intelligence anyway -- probably want to site like that in order to. And feel better about yourself while I don't know I mean it's fun every now and then but to live on -- I don't know. He got to get a clue first and foremost I was waiting for one. Won the intelligent football comment something to say that you know well the patriot receivers this batter. Now not one not -- or it was all like yeah skin rule failed skins twice -- 14. Will won't go down you know -- girls are overrated and they beat cal girls you know so I'm like. That's all Wallace. Frankly I'm kind of with Fred maybe its good that we very these things anyway because on the social purpose they serve other than to. You know attractive you know fans and I really you have to do that but if you look at for intelligent football conversation that's probably not where you want to go. Hopefully he'll go to mortal of and you like this -- to beat U of W sometimes that is saying very much I realize that but. I just just doesn't sort of an exercise you know just to be a little different. He let the other people are second to what they of the fans are saying where's the other side coming from. What do they based their reasoning in the answer to that is they don't have any reasoning they don't based on is. It's -- It's empty. And so you know frankly if your Redskins fan and you're listening this program right now. I I'm I'm begging you I'm begging you please show me. Show me an ounce of football intelligence or I'm going to think that you know 30 fans or on the chat site. Short while ago our representative of football than that -- the Russian Redskins I really know deep down but that's not the case. That's just not the case because at a Dallas Cowboys fan growing up my entire life obviously the Redskins were were were art the arch rival I think the rivalry is lessened somewhat now that you know Tom Landry George Allen in a long were part of it because that's that was part of the fun in that particular rivalry but there was always a mutual respect -- hated them. You want him to get Christ every week what you knew they wouldn't and when they won you respect the fact that they want. And when Joe Gibbs was head coach of -- Redskins team his first time around in building his Hall of Fame -- it. It was a team that was built on toughness on precision on on execution on I mean a lot of there's a lot of similarities I think between the Joe Gibbs teams. You know during his first time around the the league. And what the patriots are right now. I think there -- lot of similarities. Into that and that's why I guess I'm disappointed in seeing the absolute none skulls that we're chatting up on the on the website and obviously I want one shred of intelligent football conversation please somebody even you know. Say that you know Randy moss is a good receiver ready and get that. I was just totally and completely -- so. A bomb that kind of got me off and running today web radio at patriots dot com is of course the email address web radio -- patriots dot com if you want to call on the program we certainly can't Bible wait 5437482. -- wait 5437482. Until you get on the program in addition to your school work your final score once you predict the final score game as I do it's expect this -- to not be quite what it was with Miami. I think we do it to give at least. Even at their football fans are intelligent I think are not intelligent -- certain faction of them are not I think we have to give the Redskins football team. Credit credit's due for being foreign to. They could easily be six -- don't they don't really have a juggernaut offense. They have a better than average if not upper tier upper echelon -- in the NFL I think that perhaps his. As we've been talking about already this week that's going to be the key to Sunday's game is really. Whether or not a Washington's -- finally BA deepens to slow the patriots down we have yet to see anyone thus far the cowboys -- you know we're decent. Not great decent lot of speed on defense. So that's that's one thing -- may be the best overall the fence you could certainly made that argument I think the -- faced to this point in time this year. It's possible number one an average Joe on the good you know biggest thing here is whether or not the patriots defense or excuse me the go the Redskins offense can move the patriots difference. That seemed to me to be bigger K I mean a big one thing to slow down or even shut down. The patriots are a bit but then you still have to find a way to score some points yourself -- in right now I'm not looking at I'm I'm not seen it. We got any mail a short while ago. -- from a fan who actually seven nice little note. This is so from -- in New York who says that there was a quote I guess I don't know what the quote came all came from the Washington Post I guess it was today. It may have been yesterday because I haven't had a chance to check the link but he pulled out the corporate Clinton Portis. In portage is quote -- the running back the -- can -- called talent wise I think we the most talented team in the NFL -- said. When he comes to talent I think we've got more talent than anybody including the patriots you look at the receiving -- they put together. I think our receiving corps. Is just as talented. Amendment rights thanks -- take the over at a well first of all I'll explain this. Consider the source Clinton Portis has been known to -- for going to shoot his mouth -- number one mom number two. Hardly did it doesn't surprise me that anybody in the one team wouldn't defend their own guys coming you know going to say all the other guys are better than ours you know going to get an answer from a player you're not going to get that answer from a coach. -- get that answer from anybody in Washington certainly not the knucklehead fence. I think you know the issue here is that that you look at the receiving -- that put together I think -- you gorgeous talented. I think that's a fair statement actually I mean based on his opinion of course. But -- first parties tell -- that they were the most talented team in the NFL well based on what. You've lost a couple of games patriots and colts have not. So to -- Hard to put any credibility behind that just yet he says when it comes to -- I think we've got more talent than anybody including the patriots while that may be. So my question my final that would be able why haven't you shown it. Maybe they'll get a chance to show this weekend I don't know the oddsmakers seem to think. You know it with the patriots still a 17 point favorite the odds makers seem to think that that they're not capable. So I want you to kind of keep all of this in mind when you select the final score when you predicted when you tell me what you think the score of Sunday's game will be. And whether or not you think that it will be actually. Closer than the 17 point margin. As the oddsmakers currently are saying it will be or whether or not you think it will be wider. Then that 17 point margin I have to admit I'm kind of like Fred. On in the fact that my initial inclination this week was to take you know take the visitors it'd take him with the points obviously at the patriots -- the when the game. But to. Slide toward the other way in terms of them come. The points but that's my initial inclination I I really. I'll be quite honestly I have not. Made I have not made a choice on it just it I think it's borderline and I'm thinking right at 3417. He's probably good way a good way to go good good place to start out would score wise and then. On the well I'm not so sure that the Redskins is going to guys were 17. And I'll give the Redskins Stevens a little bit of the benefit of the doubt and say that they get all the papers to 34 so far nobody tell the patriots to less than at this year. Which is why -- found some of the score predictions from some of the at the chocolate in the Redskins dot com chat site that to be rather music 241414 to three. -- you kidney. We'll get Damon -- that they they're going to all the patriots to three touchdowns less than what they've averaged. That's did that's you know if they would have the best defense in the NFL may be the best -- since the 85 batters. If they really we're going to hold the patriots down of that kind of point margin. Now who knows anything can happen to -- a football made the papers for the ball or five times I don't know. I suppose anything could happen but based on what we've seen thus far it's a little farfetched to think that it will happen. So just based on what we know just say it was a little taken aback by. You know just beat the -- prism that was -- I mean we're trying to present a balanced point of view do we root for the pats -- sure it's better for us better for everybody. But you know on the patriots you know don't play well we certainly don't play well the patriots don't have an edge in a match -- we say it but don't have an edge in this match. -- gets the patriots and you know the POW guys have done that in the past. We do that would pick against them we select against we've done that on the show on Thursday when we you know. Do our picks in under Russell Baxter Dunn and I've done it you know we. -- fans have called in you know you when you've emailed your scores and several would be able I picked against the patriots won every thought it was an appropriate we'd deduce. So it's not like this patriot team has been invincible for. Any amount of time longer than what the last seven weeks. I'm not sure that we had any money select against the patriots yet this season to be quite honest with him I'm sure that we have. Everybody's pretty much pick the patriots from from week one but you know I suppose there's a first time for everything maybe that will be this week maybe that will be next week. When the cold game comes up. You know we've done our best to try to stay somewhat I guess locked and loaded in on. This week's game for this week without having to worry too much about what's going on next week. Just yet. Even at a colts -- email us here in the program yesterday just begging us. If not outright taught egotistical head start talking about the colts in hopes that that would have caused the patriots lose some sort of focus I don't know. We can do that that is mean guys don't always going to do that it all right -- ones that are practicing what have you certainly going to Soviet you know a tight match -- no doubt I'm I'm personally going to root for the colts to win this week. I'd I'd I want that and I am sure that you are -- so in that regard I would ask you as well as a part of your email today. Are you rooting for the colts to win. Is there anybody out there that does not want them to win. So on major final score. Your prediction for Sunday but -- with the Washington Redskins and argue also rooting for the colts to win. Or you one of those fans -- just you know eight and a partisan opponent I could care less what happens especially the -- because now they're become really are our arch rivals especially in the AFC. And you know I wanted to get beat every time out in on the awards but -- favorite teams are the patriots and whoever plays the -- That's what I want to know if you're in that particular corner -- and I -- that's fine you surely have a right to be that way. I I share your opinion in in some other sports you know one other teams that I root for I feel that way along the ways but I don't know but feel that way in this particular -- so that's why I'm asking you to question and hopefully you'll participate today. The email web radio -- patriots dot com. And by telephone 585437482. Telephone number we have mention of course that this is just the eighth time in regular season NFL history. Patriots and the Redskins have existed that they have played each other during the regular season. Just seven previous meetings between these teams. And what and the Redskins have won six of the previous seven the only win by the patriots came back in the first ever meeting back in 1972. That was on October the first of 72 was it then named -- stadium. And it was at one point 2423 win by the pats over the Redskins that afternoon. Since that time patriots have played. For so -- separate times since that time in Foxboro. And they have lost 16 to 14 they've lost 26 -- ten. They've lost 25 to ten. And the most recent appearance by the Redskins in Foxboro. Was on October the 13 of 1996 and that was it twice so 122 win by the Redskins at Foxboro stadium. Last time these two teams played each other was four years ago little over four years ago four seasons ago. In 2003 November the Huskies -- September 20 vote three. And that was when Steve spurrier again was still coach in the Redskins -- it was a 20 to 17 win for Washington at FedEx field the Pedro is only played twice. One point two times in Washington DC against the Redskins and lost them both. And you probably have been made aware of this already this week but I'll back it appeared as saying that the Redskins are the only franchise. Amongst the other 31 teams in the National Football League not counting the patriots of course the Tom Brady does not have they win against. The only one only team he has never defeated as a quarterback is Washington. So when you couple that the fact the patriots haven't beaten the Redskins in 35 calendar years since 1972. I'm sure of that so that is probably you know made its way to the locker room I don't know that talked about it is Mike Vrabel was specifically asked that question again yesterday in the locker room conversation so. But it was a sort of a unique fact Brady even mention -- bit in his conversation that we had here on the program yesterday. So -- a lot of those guys pay a lot of attention that kind of stuff I I think it may be that it has been brought up has been too long. Now even though we know that this just into the wind that we needed you know make sure we buckled down here and get this W. It's been a long time we don't want this held over our heads we want nothing -- over our heads we don't want to leave anything to chance. At all. And that is -- you go about doing this is that should in itself be focus enough. For this football team week to week if you ever wonder about individual week focus whether or not they actually do sometimes look ahead. On the counter what was these little things like you know having not been the team in 35 years and Tom Brady never having beaten this team before and you know all that capacity if you look at these little things. Believing in me they all add up they're all talked about there either in the locker room there in somebody's individual brain you know I mean. You had to have been on the 2003 team. To lead and played Washington -- about the current patriots now so anybody that was on the 2003 team they haven't been to Washington. It we look at the current patriots roster to go up and down and I'm sure there are too many guys on the that are of ever beaten Washington. Unless of course they were you know spent part of their career in the NFC maybe -- Donte' Stallworth but of the -- not too many guys they're being -- so I think that's reason enough to stay focused. And also the numbers as we talk about how the Washington D fence is pretty pretty rock solid. They're third in the NFL in points allowed -- at 14 point seven per game patriots -- tenth in the league in points allowed 17 points per game. Redskins are fifth in the NFL in total defense of yards allowed -- given up 277 yards a game a total offense the patriots are just ahead of them. Fourth 275 yards per game. The Redskins are fifth in the NFL in rushing defense given up just under 81 yards per game -- ninth. They -- of just under 93 yards per game program. Pass defense also rock solid. Redskins or eighth in the NFL in pass defense to given a 196 yards per game through the air. Patriots -- fourth and as deep into 182 -- the Redskins obviously have a very comparable the events. In total yards allowed they're just behind the pats in points allowed. They're ahead of the patriots. A little political. They've only allowed nine touchdowns in six games overall eight of them by the -- Patriots conversely of allowed 15 touchdowns thus far this season. And a pretty close and third down percentage their defense allowing opponents to convert on third down 32% of the time the patriots on third down defense. One of the league's best at 30% conversion. So now yield a clear picture of you haven't already seen -- he'll clear picture that the Redskins defense does provide for -- challenge. It is because of those numbers and I'm sure what the guys have seen on videotape and and through their films that this week that venture that they probably don't need any extra motivation. And they probably don't need any extra convincing that the Redskins are certainly capable and worthy. Of stick around if not outright winning the football game on Sunday. So in this regard that's again part of the reason why I ask you to give me your thoughts. I'm not only the final score predict the final score of the game but then -- whether or not to you'll be rooting for the colts as well. On Sunday. Manny Quincy is this game worries me a little bit because I believe that Sean Taylor Laron Landry will go out of their way to hit or hurt the patriots receivers. I'm not saying the receiver won't get their catches because I think they will. But I believe after this week in going for the pats we'll start relying on their depth Chad Jackson maybe toward brown support this could be the start of the receivers getting getting up. Yeah we talked about -- yesterday met in in how to defense. The patriots and how. You know. How you might be able to take something away because that it's only things. You know that they do so well on offense right now you have to focus on taken something away in order to have a chance to slow down. And based on what I was able to reunite at some opinions from some people who -- opinions I respect greatly in the business. Who covered -- chapter from NFL network of one -- crew chief medical dot com for another. End in their conversations with a couple of club AFC general manager the general thought process is is that you did the patriots what they historically have done to teams in the past you muscle up on the receivers. Bang out of the line do exactly to them the patriots you know they had to Napoleon had you know was scream into the NFL the Pedro to go to his receivers. Check them part of the line via physical would make him pay when they go over the middle pound under the ground. Try to take away the middle so you can focus your coverage on the edges on the deep roots. And again as you notice Washington defensively will play a little bit more of an umbrella -- zone they're not going to let a whole lot get over the top. Even though the -- it may take a couple of long steps down the field and quite frankly when you have some of the talent that they have you'd be foolish not to take a shot at it. But I think that's exactly what the Redskins want patriots to do because they're going to be quipped that the key here is is to find something up underneath the -- to seem. Maybe to get one of those you know Donte' Stallworth 360 degree moves and couple missed tackles and boom he's in the end zone like the first score last week against Miami. That's the key here. In -- part of the reason that that's taken away right now because you don't have the threat up the middle -- guy like Benjamin Watson Peter's return to appeal which should doesn't look likely. She had a guy like Wes Welker who's been able to sub and again if I am the Redskins. Knowing that this may not be able to take away guy. Like moss because of some of the unbelievable plays he's made maybe have to give him a player to. I'm going to pay on the west welcome an absolute found on an -- to try to take him out of the game. Makes my heels beat even if it's moss but make them go over the top and hope that our coverage is good enough to where they might get one or two which you know going to burn is more than that. They moss has a hundred yard day but the key here is to not let Welker have the -- to not let Stallworth have the same. Take away the middle of field on defense. Have you can do that that you might have a chance. You hope that you get a couple of breaks. You hope that you get a couple of bad passes you hope that the patriots are not completely well in the rushing offense and that they -- up there or they're not as effective with a few less healthy bodies there. And so you hope and again you're -- so little -- no but you hope that you know you can stick around if you take away one thing and frankly. I'm thinking that welcome maybe the the one option but to turn -- so we'll find out if indeed that Joe Gibbs and company are thinking the same way. If indeed that might be a focal point for them to look at. -- in trying to take this trinity the ways I think that's certainly one of the ways that the Washington could be looking at things going into the game on Sunday arm. Redskins obviously are the missed their first regular season appearance physically at Gillette stadium. So they are now the 26 different opponent traveled the patriots of facility the only teams that have not appeared in a regular season a playoff game at Gillette. Are all NFC teams obviously Arizona Atlanta Carolina Philadelphia saint Louis. Those of the teams that have not been there obviously Philadelphia will change things when they play in another month here in Foxborough but to this point time goes by teams that never been. Redskins of course will not technically the Redskins have been here that played here pre season game -- before last the patriots by the way have dominated. Increasing with the Redskins about the Redskins I think they played like I think that's all the number with a sweep of the like 23 times in the pre season the patriots have like -- and 18 to five lead in pre season games. I was so that means nothing. But it still means that very few players on the Washington football have ever been here for game that actually means something. I don't know what that means the overall scheme of things again it just kind of factor. So that's so we're looking at. Going into the match up -- like I don't know how you feel bomb everything is going to shape up. Along those lines -- scores and the rooting for the colts anything else to undermine other questions obviously it is open and available to you web radio at patriots dot com and 5 wait 5437482.
