Play from 0:00[0:00]" That was stolen guns no -- follow another golf and I want to go -- quiet. That they've won a pair of -- Patriots playbook got back got combat odd that they've -- here briefly what. Breaking down last Sunday's game the Superman coverage. When these -- really great yeah. Pray for the rest of the 2008. NFL. And some of the points separate between now feelings John. -- Patriots --"

Play from 0:43[0:43]" On here in our 2008 season. Day number two I'm John -- my curriculum. Patriots football weekly had an up and around for the first out of the program today so make sure you keep emailed common. Web radio at Patriots dot com in the email addresses -- radio act. Patriots dot com now. Couple things business wise -- particular here at least -- Outset of the showed today Patriots of course did re signed quarterback Matt good here is we also signed punter Tom Malone to the practice squad. -- is Lucie originally signed by the Patriots as the rookie free agent out of Idaho State. Back in May of 7. He played in five games the Patriots as a rookie last year did complete one pass for fifteen yards was released as one of the final cuts this year. Well on August the thirtieth in the final round of cuts Mike let me ask you -- right off the top I think this -- the move that most. People expected the Patriots to make if they were going to make a move at quarterback -- you would all surprised that decided to go this direction none."

Play from 1:47[1:47]" Really John because I don't eat any of the veterans that are out there right now being capable of coming in and making any sort of immediate impact. And I think right now you look at the guys were out there timber take Chris and rumors about -- and others -- John those guys don't know the and those guys don't have the background Cassel has been here four years. Played in all the pre season games took all the snaps at Tom Brady did not take. Including I'm on the practice field as well I think -- little bit more chemistry with -- with -- And the teammates that he has now they need to do bring in real tense up you bring in somebody else right now look at impact or enemy having passed the better quarterback -- all three -- those guys we talked about."

Play from 2:25[2:25]" Yeah absolutely in just because of the fact that you know you're so well versed in. What is it I guess everything that the Patriots got going on locker room and in in the playbook and such it to me that certainly does make. One bit of support I was surprised. That the decision to go that route okay now as some other news -- felt -- that I wanted to touch on briefly because the Patriots obviously are not the only team. All of that has been be seized by a major injury. This early stage of the game kind of lead me into where it was going to -- start off the program today number one Shawne Merriman has decided the better of his I guess desire to continue to play with 2 torn ligaments in his and he. And Shawne Merriman is now going to put it up he's going to Shell of himself and have surgery and he will be gone from the San Diego Chargers defense for the rest of the year. Now Mike I would ask which loss is more crucial to which team Merriman to the Chargers. -- Brady of the Patriots."

Play from 3:22[3:22]" Now Brady easily is no question about it in Brady is the heart and old team offensively he touches the ball on every that he -- entire show. Merriman a fine defensive player one of the best coaches in the team by. You have your offense intact and has idea any team leader and over as quarterback you have other defense players included in the one pass rusher at one end is not. Equal to losing your starting quarterback. I can't really any compare what's -- mean losing Brady this here is guys about their football probably one of the top five must -- top five. In the -- he's probably top fifteen. In terms of impact auto body FIRF started the -- is losing LaDainian Tom and -- it would be a bigger impact than losing environment as point."

Play from 4:05[4:05]" Possibly. However I still think he's probably consider he's still going to be considered a top five or six I with the linebackers in the NFL when he is healthy. And I asked that only because they lost their game their ON one they were. Similar thought of as a as a potential Super Bowl contender along with the Patriots and obviously the other road contenders the Colts and such maybe in the of the jags. In the AFC east when you take a huge part of your deacons out like the Patriots have had a huge part of their offense removed. The Patriots feel like they're going to build up around Tom Brady I would think this to be somewhat effective offensively we spent. The last couple of -- talking about is how Matt Cassell all he has to do. It just remain efficient not hurt the team don't turn the ball over don't try to do anything. Spectacular just manage the situation whereas. The Chargers not having a playmaker defensively and a guy like Merriman to back him up do they have enough around him. To where this could end up being I think they're more."

Play from 5:01[5:01]" Crucial loss well they put the charges of -- per game it was a fluke he played a loss on the last throw and go home in the fourth quarter with time -- now. And I don't think in even the Colts losing in week one and you wake up the next morning who's better -- now -- in charge -- you know with the -- have -- Manning they still after all their weapons the Chargers have their big weapons now losing -- obviously is pagan and I I do I don't want to overstate that and how how important that is. But Tom Brady is the league reigning league MVP. And as a player and into it and putting has yet he can manage the team to some degree but there are going to be times late in the fourth quarter where they may need him to winning game. And I don't know if he can do that yet we have never seen he's ever had via the dream you -- so until he does get it. We really have to reserve right judgment there but we do know Brady can win a lot of gains -- you know on the needle and Brady came in 2001. He was a game manager but he all of one -- down Jets he engineer the last drive in the available to get to him until going. And those other things that Matt Cassell might have to do. Because I expect the team now without great that the play a lot of lot you know I'm more closer than in the past that are going to be that many fifty to nothing games that -- there. If he's not the field engineer and big drives in the fourth quarter in the second half. -- on the jury's out right now and if you can if -- can actually you know that responsibility."

Play from 6:20[6:20]" That's for. -- the other room. Injury wanted to touch briefly is of Vince Young for the Titans who is sprain in CL he's going to miss anywhere from two to four weeks. For Tennessee obviously he's had the whole mental -- have to deal with his mother. Was quoted in the Tennessee newspapers saying today that he's hurting inside and that. And I'm paraphrasing here but that he could use you know prayer from people and you have to wonder when a mom speaks out -- to have over child certainly. Most -- defend their children. To any degree but in this case. In the NFL you don't see this all that often so I wonder. If that has any special significance in lending any credence to the fact that maybe young is having some depression issues."

Play from 7:05[7:05]" That's their real touchy subject I'm not sure what that going out there in Tennessee. And that's scary you kind of you know something you look at it this situation here -- in in his -- down monitor Patriot and it could be a whole lot more could you quarterback leaving the house and -- cell phone and people not knowing his whereabouts and all the talk about depression. Yeah I wish the best events that I really hope that that's nothing serious and you know goal for for the tight ends. That's big too because we don't know what his mental it is right now and I think a lot of people looked at Tennessee. You know one of the navy playoff contenders in the I'm not I'm out there and I think there's strong defense team and we -- in week one win on the early nineties and play. Without Vince Young for the better part of the season if he does not come back. -- knock them down a --"

Play from 7:51[7:51]" Also wanted to mention that just coming out a short while ago that the Saints. Have lost receiver Marcus Colston going to miss 46 weeks of surgery to repair torn ligament. In his left thumb so this kind of leads me to some of the things that I was going to will lead off with a -- in injuries in particular. The fact is is that we've been talking especially in light. Mike over the fact the Patriots it's -- miserable pre season for obvious reasons they had a mission in mind and whether they accomplished not it will never really entirely now. Fact is though is that to watch it was a very good football. And it's still I think adds fuel the fire in terms of trying to shorten the current pre season situations setup that we have from the four games on the schedule. Several people have said now in light of the major injuries that we've had through the first week of the regular season there is no way. Noble say no now that the pre season can ever be shortened. You agree or disagree that."

Play from 8:51[8:51]" I think -- shouldn't be short and but I don't think it's that reason because of injuries because that can happen. Regardless of how many pre season games you play I don't think. Tom Brady's injury had anything to do with the fact that in -- pre fluke occurrence but I dove -- no -- he tore -- he -- reportedly so. The has doesn't do it bring it hard for pre season games. He could have up -- team exact injury a lot of the injuries are not dependent on how much -- I played in the pre season or how little that -- in the my biggest -- and build -- checked talked about that at some point during camp. When asked about he says when he develop young players right how do you develop young players about pre season games you have enough time to get them up -- beat. You can simulate things in practice -- shouldn't try to but it not quite -- and I agreed with him on that point I think you have to have those games and those. Legitimate -- and something that lately resemble an NFL looking to get a -- have beaten a lot of the rookies come in now. Are expected to contribute right away and it's likely -- Jerod Mayo. What belt or pre season game where it may be right now week one week to Hewitt will be in pre season poll. And you don't really get the real Jerod Mayo -- week three week four. If you want to guy at his best right away he needs the time and if you take away pre season games -- and by that time."

Play from 10:07[10:07]" Well here's what I think has always been to me the logical conclusion to try to solve this a problem if you will pre season football. I thought maybe you could shorten it to three games and add an extra regular season game obviously that would make an unbalanced schedule and some years you have nine home games of the usually have a and I understand that. That may still be -- mean the most viable way to go but Peter King from Sports Illustrated had an interest -- Scenario that actually may also be a little have some validity to it. The bottom line is though is that no matter what happens. We're still going to have twenty. -- where people will be invited in to watch because. Of the money factor. Owners are not going to give up the gravy train and that's what pre season is. People forget that players aren't paid their salaries into week one of the regular season the paid a stipend to get them through training camp. There for the margin of return for the ownership in the NFL is huge. There's no way they're giving that up they might get one game back. But they're not going to give them up mom. To the point where we -- the pre season like two games now Peter King has it was -- pre season games. And then to score images. With. Other teams in neutral sites when you don't sell tickets that will never have never had a for the money now after that that."

Play from 11:31[11:31]" Overriding factor and everything -- money. And that's the big prompting you look vote in two. You know ticket prices are receiving team on top vote to -- Italy as well you know what we need the amount of money to put the cell line. -- we charged us to watch that apparently truthful my other it is either I think that is that justification for another -- of on the for the now. They'll have an used for something else on the road in terms of why they can't -- price as the white and sort in the pre season -- welcome back to money at some point. I don't really happening and into the U I don't know does a big difference between three pre season games and seventeen regular season. You know I've it would just forced to go to playing you do. It would force teams that I think to making it harder decisions sometimes in the younger players about one extra game but we saw this year I mean or pre season games. In the Patriots made a mockery of the pre season that they just did it was awful. And the fact that they sold full price tickets for those games what if that's. I mean you know. What else can I say it was terrible it was terrible watched well. It was Terrell -- how to play I don't know if they. I don't know anybody treated any differently than needed I think they came out and they ran their plays and -- him look good doing it. That that means the bottom line and -- a big part goes I haven't Tom Brady -- he had Matt Cassel and yet Matt Gutierrez had Kevin O'Connell taken snaps of four games. Your offense now look a little less spectacular but it I'm a fan in the John by at this point now you know don't come to the team. Don't pay the price because I don't do it I hate to tell people they home enough buy tickets I mean on -- and I mean how many a giant -- and putting -- pre season game I'm not going. I'm knock on the inability of political and I think at least for Patriots fans that I know. That they -- given up their pre season tickets to other people and I don't play -- games aren't on the watch and you know that we years ago. A member of the one year and I'm not sure exactly what season it was but it was the last pre season game and nobody played and people work pay off -- back. You know going to happen. I mean on the surprising to hear people emailed shows all time me the email this show plenty of times they interviewed on our email PFW in progress complaining about. Haven't paid the price decrease in you know let you know what you getting into. Mean c'mon you should know anyway but he should -- yet -- well."

Play from 13:52[13:52]" The kind of leading into what I was going to do for question of the day here has to do with the not so much the pre season but with the injury situation because. Frankly that's why a lot of the pre season talk is coming up because of the injuries early on as I mentioned before -- maybe we should or should not in this case shorten the pre season. I don't know of anybody seen the loopholes on the sports nation page and espn.com but they're very interesting. And of course I'll send everybody off to see them but if you don't don't have to rush away from Patriots dot com pat because I'm get ready kind of goes through it for you. The one question. That really kind of intrigued me was will the Patriots make the playoffs. Now that Tom Brady is out for the season. 55%. Of the respondents. Of more than 51000. Total votes right now. 55%. Say the Patriots will not. Make the playoffs. That is the perception. That is out there right now about -- Brady list New England I'm a little surprised by Mike."

Play from 14:54[14:54]" I'm surprised it actually downloaded you know -- I thought it would be more yeah I really do I think I thought a lot of people would. Has only ever hear over the course time -- the team is screwed breeding goes down now Brady's going down and there are 45% of the people in the -- That doesn't mean indicate -- it was overwhelming among. Now in New England fans but to fans nationwide I always thought -- an alarming premise that it Brady went down the team could not win. And now here well you know they can do this can do that and maybe not that bad I think when the reality hit you try to find -- justify. And maybe finally it's going to work in and I think it's going to work -- knock on our I'm saying people in no definitive about -- so many years. And maybe part of it was because of how good Brady has played. It was on me and I don't believe me if if if if Taylor and -- Well now they -- and all. I I really like nationwide in Buick 81 really do I go like 80% of the people ignited in -- Actually -- locally that might be more no votes that you yeah I I'm I'm a little bit. -- you surprised that I think that indicated they support the team. I'm a little surprised at the optimism -- a lot of people would be sort of jumping ship at this point in Dayton and it on dental. Because a lot of people John who's doing it every season they were ripping cap. People at -- it can't throw. Look at the this woman in the pre season game he's terrible they cut the wrong match. That was we heard a lot of they cut the wrong -- they must read the -- wrong did you cut Gutierrez he outplay Cassell and Ellis island. How the guy and everything's okay yeah I I."

Play from 16:33[16:33]" He'll live a contradiction to need to -- which is also kind of odd because one of the of the questions on the sports nation pole. Is which quarterback would give the Patriots the best chance for success. Matt Cassel. Daunte Culpepper Joey Harrington -- today Joey Harrington Joey Harrington timber today and Chris Simms of course him out of the equation because he's just been signed. Like Tennessee right. So -- there who are the result laughable. Matt Cassel. Took 51% of the vote merit Culpepper was second at 32% manufacturing that they were five guys in the Paula 32% think -- Culpepper. -- the coming here. Andy has has have you watched the last couple years called make -- move anymore you know you have the ability and we're in real Tom Brady was one of the leaders in the NFL in absorbing hits in the backfield. Yeah -- that's been on that really has kind of gone under the table here. With three offensive -- making the Pro Bowl last year. But Tom Brady's taking as many hits. As just about any other quarterback in the NFL so if you have Culpepper back there he's dead meat I -- killed he can't move anymore John and he knows something and and -- or any months that and I think that was ten years ago. 1998. It's 2008. Yeah hey it's not name that is not -- the problem is that Culpepper isn't so absorbed. Way too many hits Friday that he. It is a reason why he was out there and nobody was picking him up. That's the reason why all these guys -- that John there's a reason why there on the count now Chris Simms -- of a job now. One Texas ex Texas quarterback backing up and -- at Tennessee. The question of the day. Has to do -- them. Perception. In the NFL in particular. In the AFC so this is why what brought to our E mailers today we always try to come up with a a question of the day to keep everybody somewhat that engaged. In the overall topic of conversation about the way by the EU and anybody -- you're all welcome to just you know basically fire off whatever on your mind about the team about the National Football League. Whatever is up there even if it's not what we -- discussing that's the way this thing rolls it's sort of then you know open forum type situation. But I always try to put it one sort of a focal point to the day at least the opening of the conversation. For every showed during the course of the week. Now if not the Patriots. If not the Patriots. Which team. Would you considered the favorite. In the AFC I know many Patriots fans still think Ottawa were out of it. And we discussed that yesterday and that many mailers came through yesterday and fought very much that you know upon further reflection maybe I mean a little bit hasty about this. Well the exportation poll also had that question on top and I'll hold off giving that result. For the moment but right at about 50000. Respondents again nationwide. To this question which team is now the favorite in the AFC. Without Tom Brady as quarterback the Patriots. I would ask you yet in this what I want to ask Harry Miller's web radio at Patriots dot com. Which team do you considered to be if not the Patriots which team do you consider to be the favorite in the AFC what they might."

Play from 19:44[19:44]" Well at the beginning of the season or are pretty going down and I picked any charges the commodity at the secret that. I believe that the most balanced team offensively. I like Philip Rivers that a lot of back filter is after his performance last in the heat and no game playing practically and one -- Luckily pretty darn well too and it has some pretty gaudy performed that entire post season. And I like the defense I know Merriman not there but that's it. It seems like ninety pro bowlers in and out at me nine minus one guy. And I and and a lot focuses on what he can do what they have some really good pass on the team. And I just like the look like the schedule they have it's it has -- difficult gains but. I think -- seventies for them. Not even eagle was the first game I'm not off the bandwagon yet an -- on the bandwagon I'm paying that pick. You know they do all kind of a fluke game nine times out of ten I would win that game by two touchdowns and a lot of that -- yet he has and bad breaks go their way and and didn't give Carolina credit. Until home playing his first game in and come back to. I would go to San Diego -- a lot of people like Indianapolis I think Indianapolis maybe are -- a little back and regulate. Their window is articles a little bit. And we'll see how Manning -- or bonds in the off season in the lack of activity and shake that are often when he does the right now Riley."

Play from 21:06[21:06]" well that's the question I'm asking everybody if not the Patriots in which team in your mind is the favorite should be. The favorite in the AFC. Web radio at Patriots dot com that's our question of the day today here and -- Patriots playbook. And I'll give you what the sports nation poll has to say come -- a -- but we're two of the questions as part of a -- That. I also -- pretty interesting and I wanted to share with you know one it's as how many more Super Bowl titles will Tom Brady win. And to their about 33000 respondents in this one. But the majority 43%. Said it zero."

Play from 21:45[21:45]" Zero. Hard questions John I mean I don't know how many more years and play. Her well -- there -- many annuity or how well how old is -- thirty what."

Play from 21:56[21:56]" 31 a year about yeah right around there okay. You gotta figure that if he comes back relatively healthy and certainly I think he's going to come back with a as some sort of bigger from the season having basically not want to sit out the entire year yet. I think he's got at least one left in him somewhere somehow he's going to played at 35 or 36 years old you would like to think. Barring any further injury. So I would think one and that was the next number 34% at one. The other question is which player would be the biggest loss for his league. If he were to sustain. A season ending injury. Football is represented by Tom Brady. The NHL was represented by Sidney Crosby and LeBron James. Represent the NBA. Alex Rodriguez was in different Major League Baseball. And they also have won more football player in their because I think. If they lost him it would be enormous and that's Peyton Manning and yeah well you know -- Klecko -- I thought it was a sort of a good."

Play from 23:05[23:05]" Thought provoking question. I think that that the question about who lost at the league right I think I would go -- Crosby because NHL is follower off the Italy. Yeah we need Crosby really revitalizing the ball and he's going now being chosen. Oh that is true but a lot of naysayers Mike would say nobody cares its hockey. Well -- that but that that attitude and him as an even try media that they aren't trying hard to market him and I think they have done and and fans back in. You eliminated casual gamble -- a -- a Penguins game -- and me. On Saturday afternoon that it -- not there now nobody watches the lately you know what. The NFL is is pretty big conglomerate right now you lose one title -- No no disrespect Tom Brady but people are treated like. You know Roger Goodell died you know I mean the back as a -- I believe it was going to do for the league the league and I don't want. The thing I keep playing games next week and there are going to go well that play on Sunday -- act I built their ankles not hurt in group hopeless either not the not reaching out to have to. Troy in casualty of the India has all -- They've got it. The NBA in the NHL. Not much and the NHL parlor in the NBA the NBA's make it and I come back and LeBron and guys that helped. I think LeBron to be an outlets I think they won a twelve to one of the most well right now Annika viable player. You want to note of the poll says. I'm Providence aids advocates they'll run."

Play from 24:33[24:33]" At he was tied for first yeah LeBron James is tied for first with Tom Brady yeah. 33%. A full 13 of the respondents said Tom Brady. Is the biggest loss for the NFL. In the other and another third said LeBron James being lost in the NBA the other three respondents combined. For 33% Crosby had 18%. Peyton Manning 14% A-Rod just 1%."

Play from 24:59[24:59]" Surprised that A-Rod -- baseball and an army keep him but I'll I'll look at him as. -- of Major League -- well maybe it is that it was good question though that they normally have -- yeah maybe you could pick any guy any I think he's. The best player in the game. That doesn't always mean -- easily been. -- and I exciting personally. I think Kobe Bryant play in the NBA but LeBron has the far more marketable can't right now right now Kobe and issues that people -- impact. Going to wave that'll be it but it but LeBron is this pristine characters. Young gun -- you know it's a question accurately say who the face of baseball has put her that they arrived back at that dinner in bodes."

Play from 25:43[25:43]" You have good stuff which is why wanted to share it today. And you have your chance to responded to our question of the day if not the Patriots which team is now the favorite. In your estimation in the AFC web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address. But I take a time out here what Mike share some emails with us from earlier in PFW in progress if those of you that. Didn't teacher questions in on the program we can fill in those and we'll also have these questions as well coming up coming about our number two over -- program we will hear the conference call today with both Brett Favre. And with Jets head coach Eric Mangini and it's all straight ahead as we continuance of the play."

Play from 26:22[26:22]" Patriot place New England closed and only super regional -- and entertainment center is now open right next. Next to Gillette Stadium Foxborough mass. The New England Patriots in the New England Revolution is now go home knowing what's most. Exciting entertainment shopping destination -- On christmas tree shops -- what -- huge. Staples and -- England's first bass pro job Patriot place has something for your shopping needs and coming."

Play from 26:49[26:49]" And -- Patriot place is the first CBS theme restaurant bar called four star hotel showpiece live. Live entertainment value can no -- with the hall at Patriot place for anybody who -- beyond."

Play from 27:02[27:02]" Shopping and entertainment dining experience is unlike any other New England visit him do his best place dot com for more information head into the ground between sweepstakes for the opportunity to -- 10000 dollar visa card for the Patriots place shopping -- All at once and a lifetime experience. Every day every place every one would it."

Play from 27:26[27:26]" Linemen always Hungary -- the awesome offense -- to Gillette Stadium as you'll be okay all right you know. Tackle that -- with the Patriots gridiron Grilli -- second. Sausages -- frame of Patriots brought him a wide variety of flavors at home. Yes there. I even drillers are all you need for the perfect -- go home barbecued chicken out all the Patriots gridiron. The Jets Patriots. Playing in the bowl. Patriots rebounded. Gridiron drillers okay. Brothers -- very far Johnson. Growers when you just can't wait for Sunday."

Play from 28:39[28:39]" So -- New England Revolution here is here at the revolution pro shop for Patriot plays. Okay wait an extra Gillette Stadium full revolution shop there's always. But new to the opening hole away jerseys with the name and number of your finger. Later or have won customize what you're only win number. It's what you're. She's in much. Collection of revolution item twelve man what. Pro shop and Patriots places over seven days a week and always available."

Play from 29:22[29:22]" Engine shop. This is former quarterbacks he broke. And former linebacker Steve Nelson who want to tell you about the game with a great feeling those old diehard fans remember their playing days. Like in 1985 typical of the snowplow hit. Maybe -- want to meet the newest members of the Patriots Hall of -- like Ben -- for my good friend Stanley Morgan and Andre -- one in my linebacker Brothers you'll -- do you think he'll bring his gold jacket with them I -- like and we you know if -- big time fan you won't want to miss the game with a great it's happening on October 5 at Gillette Stadium when the current Patriots -- away at San Francisco U two tickets -- dot com backlash alumni say that's pretty. Yeah we forgot that we should call -- at the end we -- be the next Mike and Mike."

Play from 30:36[30:36]" Email address you know web radio. Patriots dot com John -- joined by Mike -- Patriots football weekly. -- 3 o'clock -- after the U 3 o'clock eastern time hour arrived to get into the conference call today with the opponents that was being the New York Jets Patriots playing at the Jets. This next Sunday afternoon game two of the 2008 regular season. We'll have Eric Mangini will have Brett Favre Corey coming up and our number two of the program so all of that still to come. One other thing that I wanted to look at a point -- in terms of the injury situation in. Howell. I guess may be you know Tom Brady's injury has caused. Fans everywhere certainly Patriots fans but fans everywhere to sort of reassess where their own team's fortunes lie. In terms the National Football League I was reading Dan Wetzel from Yahoo! Sports. And he thought that Brady's injury made the Dallas Cowboys the absolute -- win team to beat. For the suitable. -- question they course has been -- concerning more about the AFC conference in particular. Because that a course pictures candidly about the NFC but terms of team to beat overall. Super Bowl caliber. He says is the Dallas Cowboys now frankly I came into the season might think and well you know the Patriots have to be considered the favorite in the AFC but in the NFC I liked the Cowboys then. I still like the Cowboys now maybe the Cowboys are the team to be overall in the NFL."

Play from 32:01[32:01]" Yeah I'm with you -- I'd pick the Cowboys win -- all the art the air -- obvious and beat San Diego of this. Injury to Tom -- has nothing really changed at if you had to pick and you had. Seat it's over Cowboys in the approval nine in my change your mind you make out of the Cowboys as -- team -- I think there are a lot of teams right now and obvious he mostly on the AME side of the ball because. That compete in New England but -- it is injury United beat themselves have a chance now. Teams that might out of had a shot like the Jets have a shot and if he may be Buffalo's surprise team. And maybe some of the teams in the north and the south in the Alaskan cum on feel like we get into the playoff now as San Diego who has lost. To New England each of the last two years the most he's. Must feel like while we have a chance maybe to get over the hump in the playoffs finally if we don't -- he's doing so there are a lot of teams that are in tempo."

Play from 32:52[32:52]" Yeah I'm one of the telling quotes though that that really struck me. In that Wetzel article was -- recorded their from linebacker Bradie James -- Tom Brady is the reigning MVP and that's for reason. Are you will be missed on the team one thing about doing that they have enough talent and experience to rise up. Now that seemed to be the common perception amongst the players -- around the NFL and what -- follow that up by saying actually they probably don't. As good as the supporting cast is in New England it was Brady who made it work. The Patriots held on to beat Kansas City but the long term prognosis is completely altered. The ugly truth -- the injury is the road that your average of has become easier for every contender. Now. I get the distinct impression just from what I've read over the last couple they since Tom went down. That there was an overall feeling a low -- Ensure with the right adjective to put him here he -- but there I don't know foods disrespect to what the let's just say the national media. I don't think was as solid on the Patriots -- may be Patriots fans and even we worry. And I don't know but just because the Patriots. Everyone so much or they really thought that the Patriots roster wasn't. As good. And I've found little surprising."

Play from 34:05[34:05]" Well all of a sudden there now John if you look at it and lose to them -- the talk in the aftermath of Brady's injury a lot of people are saying the -- going to make the playoffs. A lot of people haven't heard too much negative backlash from the main body may be other than Deion Sanders and upon network who -- department. But everybody is pretty important here I mean in echoes nationwide to I don't really. I don't want to really hear the back -- too much could not seeing right now I'm not really hearing I'm hearing a lot of people put in the truck and dollar check and saying he will find a way to get it done. And I think it's a different take now and Lotta people compare it to 2001. If a whole different scenario in 2001 this was coming off five and eleven season and -- loss versus -- game. -- I've had not won three balls there was no history in New England ajar front. -- was -- I don't want to they a two while over the was not successful franchise like it is now. If that though -- seven years later it doesn't mean you're coming off you know he's -- three balls in the bank the same coaching sideline who won those three titles. And now people -- Brady go down think okay you know what. We've lot a lot of guys in the past -- and we can find a way to fill in the blank again in get it done a second time or there it's time. I don't really eat too much. Negative. I don't eat too much backlash coming nationwide who I."

Play from 35:24[35:24]" I think it's worth it is -- it's been a little cyclical because I think initially the thought was the Patriots were down stick a fork and what you said. -- Anderson but I think now the people had a chance to reflect I think most are kind of coming back to. The process that we spoke about on our program here yesterday was you know -- let's give some credit the other 52 guys on this roster. Because it's not all Tom Brady otherwise you're doing a great disservice to these guys. In bat was what I thought. And still think to this day the Patriots will use is their quote -- quote disrespect card they always come up with some kind -- thing right that's really not there though and it exactly they manufacturing which is what they're very good at doing of course. Coach Belichick has been -- masterminded manufacturing you know perceived it slides in and and slapped in the face to end in. I think that's the card this team will play that you are not well enough although without Tom Brady honestly."

Play from 36:17[36:17]" Mean there are ways to supplement the laws of Brady I think what I have to do is run -- more ball control running game. Oriented style kind of offense if they stay healthy there's no reason we can't do now they have five running back these guys here for reasons that it in the put this -- you look at those guys very. And that he spent half step up and our team last year of the offense carried the team all the way to the Super Bowl now and how -- does -- feel -- it's gonna be written in PFW this week. That's appealing to doesn't hurry back when the team had the homeland defense Ted Washington at the nose tackle. In me teachers are in everything this is the most dominant defense in the NFL they had three shut out at Gillette Stadium. Over the final two months of the season. -- took over games. And and you knew even any team like against Cleveland one ranking ninth at 31 touchdown would've given the Browns went but you knew watching the game Cleveland was not going to get in the and this does that that was -- team that would establish and set the tone defensively from the start. And this team that are doing standing now now it's up then you come out -- a couple of three and out. Put the pressure on the opposing team is not going to get those when he nothing -- as he did last year is different ballgame."

Play from 37:27[37:27]" About this team at least looked like he was capable of doing just that this past week against Kansas City say for you don't and the big you know pass at the end of darling. I really thought that the defense played pretty well know get back and try to take into consideration the opponent and in in Kansas City but I actually thought Kansas City was more dangerous offensively with -- would quarterback in Brodie Croyle arena deal that is in that regard I saw some things that I liked. I did see and one thing I'm totally convinced of that. This secondary will. It's the the second it will not be maligned -- as much as it possibly could be provided the pass rush remains consistent on the opposing quarterback they must. Make that secondary better by getting pressure on the opposing cubic."

Play from 38:13[38:13]" Yet that today's job and they -- are on Larry Johnson and Jamaal Charles early and nothing going in the ground game right puzzled air toward the end. That they gave and this goes that he often do that they gave can't that he reaches in the fourth quarter. Either pull ahead -- tied game. And that's not good -- I like two with three guys -- his jogging as the player were over and Deltha O'Neal but his tail and down there now. This good and bad -- had the bad the good is he had personal applied and they they put together a very good goal line -- reminiscent of the one in Indianapolis back you know carrier back great far rather great red zone stop at all I mean this little bit of both there are concerns though that I have. And then as a positive and in the bigger the biggest positive would be the red zone -- that that was a big big problem last year. -- it's morning in a punt in a court and and that's going to have to be one of the points event that is this year. Back into go back to 2001 that bend but don't break mentality. Where they gave up a lot of yards both teams since that point they connected in. And that's what this team -- out now so that's the mall positive step in the right direction."

Play from 39:34[39:34]" Sunday you know I'm looking at the the depth chart for this week ago already and I have to admit I'm not entirely. Surprise here but and I would -- I think Deltha O'Neal. I was a little surprised that Lewis Sanders got the starting corner and I would not be surprised if that changed. If it was an O'Neal than maybe a Wheatley -- I think most of us thought that -- would probably get the start this last week that you."

Play from 39:57[39:57]" Yeah I don't know what happened there because they cut the guy that was headed in and Fernando Bryant in kind to me was an indication that. Parents ridiculous the guy. Why Lewis Sanders at the end I think while Belichick kind of alluded to that today in an economy image of the experience factor. In the pre season and maybe the fact that -- and it is a nine year veteran political and based on to experience from the Arctic camp until now. He really had a team Spirit really was out at all times so my guess is that Sanders. Did something on the field or in the pre season games. -- belts -- like more than -- now we never had an indication of what we did wrong and and we're trying to talk about the on PFW in progress and figure out what it will be due to lose that job because I thought it was his job. Now but I don't think Deion Sanders is going to pick the whole year I I think and and again bill alluded to this today that. Deltha O'Neal has catching up to do it once he catches up could maybe in The Herald I think in a couple of weeks in my he dealt O'Neal left --"

Play from 40:54[40:54]" That -- exactly where it was going in fact I think he could happen I don't know it'll happen as soon as this week but I that you get significant time. Based on just the flashes that we saw him plus he was in the returning punts is well yeah for the in the game which -- I was a little surprised that that's a big big part of it in and probably reason why he's here over you know because I was sure that. One player was really that much better than the other but I have a role that Deltha O'Neal on special teams and punt returns. Backing kind of you can and -- and -- special teams is that more do you think returning punts for O'Neal is that more because they like him doing that or is that more because they're. Forgiving Wes Welker still a chance to going to heal up from that this surgery in the off season."

Play from 41:32[41:32]" I think it's both because Welker was returning a -- the pre season that's how we got hurt -- got hurt returning upon as an ill advised it on the sideline and he got any pay the price for it. He might get and I kind of look at this we'll look at all odds are turning it cause we all thought that his role -- play well. Today I had to hear his injury last year maybe -- want to -- in the workload to keep his body a little bit more pressure. The deal with Welker now you don't have the -- that whiter even he had last you don't have a Donte' Stallworth has no mystery you know had Jabar Gaffney. And behind Jabar Gaffney is now my -- looking you're really afford to it's Welker to then maybe that's part of it too. Because I think from a production standpoint that Welker did -- early lose that job either. I think maybe they just want it. Take it easy on some of the big time players they really neat and it's no coincidence that at wide receiver quarterback looking at two positions that don't have it's on the depth. So maybe it's part of the it's gotta be part of it I'm an incredibly another Ramon -- yeah. You know perhaps Deltha O'Neal he has experience doing this and and probably more so than Welker and maybe he's the Guiding Light in the kick return games and -- and because. Matthew later to not make it positive impressions Sunday marking his first attempt. And he was out of there right after that -- that a big one on the 51 yarder. -- in the second half and now you wonder is he moved ahead in the -- with Ellis Hobbs and something else happens. But I thought you know I I was kind of -- the -- now how is that going to do it because of his injuries last year but now it appears that he might be that I didn't have a choice."

Play from 43:02[43:02]" You know that interest interest in scenario I web radio at Patriots dot com is the email address again our. Play from 43:22[43:22]" all we have some that were in -- bonds -- the questions -- sports nation Paul fireworks are but he he G in NJ as -- can mother's basement guy. I'm the is he bigger question what about the Broncos surprise."

Play from 43:38[43:38]" You know a little bit I have to admit a little bit I didn't watch much of the game the other night and yeah you -- to have some of the things but. I watched bits and pieces of -- I saw the Denver was way up and then I got up early in the morning. It's all the finals when I'm like wow yeah the Broncos really that good or -- Oakland still really that bad. And I thought maybe just a little bit of both probably more so Oakland. Duncan and about the Denver defensive line and that the fans in general. I think there's a lot better than some people give him credit for. Yeah but you know the Patriots are not going to take me to the Broncos could slide and I didn't have high hopes of them around the in put -- in the playoffs you know at the but I buddy EG remain in jail as Barry Bonds that they. No way I don't think it is you know I've seen him play an important this year I was in the face of baseball -- we don't like it might be the face that you put on a dart board right -- and that having come on. Get real we've got another email mark pal powered. Yup -- as Diego simply because they will learn from last year in Brady. No I had a player not his team will not be there any championship to knock them out and then he says number two I think this is the question in her bonds. To. Which players law's impact more more he is definitely one for Brady Mo -- on -- that there is and monitoring of okay definitely want Brady most likely mystery. Well one was zero was the most popular enthusiasm at a manageable one was the next most popular. It back when I've voted to get the numbers as you -- vote to get the numbers right right. What I voted I buckle Wanda I've voted one I think that he's got one more inning somehow someway. You know as -- as he comes back relatively healthy this year that he's got at least one but that's that's the answer that I gave a."

Play from 45:23[45:23]" It's about that being John is that -- because he will be motivated comeback that it's a given he'll return to form I think you have to understand. Physically -- do it that's the biggest concern because a lot of guys try to come back from an injury greatest of them are more mobile players at positions where at the mobility is more necessary than quarterback but it autonomy can be as motivated -- the of his body is not -- And you know it's going to be hard and that that's a big concern I mean that that the good news they get the silver lining that this happened a week one. He's got his old you are there's got to pull your -- the reader and he should be I mean by a week one next year."

Play from 46:01[46:01]" Hey maybe this means Michael actually see him in the pre season next year hey you know I think -- can you have the beyond straight -- throw it and here's the other thing I think we'll see I think it's pretty said that we'll see him wear a brace on that left knee. -- yeah that's because I actually heard I heard some innocent what I thought was ridiculous comment that you know -- the -- could've been avoided. Had he worn a brace on his left -- like a lot of quarterbacks do as a precaution. Battles -- what you get hurt. Could've possibly helped. Saved some of the severity may -- but. Most people I talk to and I know this because I've had my left knee torn up. You know that it if it does save anything it's very little might yeah cartilage other and that when the ligament goes it goes."

Play from 46:52[46:52]" Also hear James and Roanoke rapids says that he might feel heads into the top -- seasons Brady and law -- as the Pittsburgh -- And they had -- to Dallas Cowboys another thing. The Patriots have done a good job on defense against Brett Favre the last three times we have played against him. What makes anyone think he is now better than he is joining the Jets. To the -- conform to our way of playing artists are performed the way the Jets want him to play -- a good question which one of these do you think makes the Jets team that can be even -- Patriots."

Play from 47:22[47:22]" I think the Jets would have to conform to the way Favre plays on the that's actually great question yet and that's why. It Tomlinson into the the the press conference earlier in in you'll get a sense of this agreement not entirely what we do. Parts conference call because obviously it's members of the Patriots media general that do the the question and a ask questions here but listening to Favre press conference earlier today. On sports net New York. New York media believes that the Jets. Should be the favorite in the AFC east I'm like. Really and Favre to his credit did a tremendous job of downplaying all of that I mean he was so cool and I I really realized again what I actually like Brett Favre. Because he he said the exact right thing that he Patriots fans surely would want to hear -- well listen they're still in Canada you beat them. They deserve to be the favorite and they deserve to be the champ and nobody's beaten them and just because one guy goes down doesn't mean that automatically elevates everybody else we still have a long way to go here and -- all the right things in fact they're all factual -- it was all correct and what he said you know we're still try to be used to each other here and I'm paraphrasing now. But that's sort of goes to what was just said right there by the email -- in the Jets have to bring their game up to Forbes level the have a chance here's what I think now. There will be a lot of emotion at the early you know the fans will certainly be into Johnson is that this is like you know the Patriots are going to be like swimming in the shark tank and they're going to be in on the got a bloody leg right yes you know in the in the Sharks going to be circle and and they're going to be cut out for blood. And put the Patriots can survivor. The first quarter. And still be the relatively even or just a little bit behind original but but -- I think they'll be in fine shape I really delighted. I just you know sounds like -- and game plan here for a twelfth game but. Fact is is that you know if you can absorb the initial body blows. And get out of the most Elway and just get to blocking and tackling and making plays when you lined these two teams up man for man. -- went. Well."

Play from 49:24[49:24]" Here's a note to John this is now -- asked her dark. Those two factors going to be tough to overcome plus with the email field and -- that. Now you take -- Eric Mangini record defense but which by all accounts is an improved deepens with Christian -- the nose tackle. And now they -- throws and different look cap does not going to be -- is based in the Kansas City defense which was a lot more Vanilla comparison to the Jets are probably going to throw at. That's it reported only that that add up for the in his is a real tough one. Does it mean they're better in the long run on -- early but for the week right now. To meet the Jets are -- should be in favor of surprise that New England will road favorite. Given everything that is going to."

Play from 50:17[50:17]" Down -- what the odds changed and a but the holidays favorite. That I I had heard it wrong -- with -- understanding what -- now though is that it already the money is on the Patriots -- the -- slid one point -- right right and when you consider that the NFL home field advantage is usually worth a field goal. That you put these two teams -- even keel the Patriots are still considered a slight favorite. Well you know the quarterback position is really haven't has right now yup kinda it is -- then again this is what you go and you find out. What you have built around quarterback and more than a year your depth than your support system is such. -- you know your team can you know can play well I mean you know it's it goes in -- game on the road the Patriots you don't don't turn the ball over and you know and and have a chance to you know placed out the offensive force -- into some mistakes they should be fine. They should be fine again we have to wait and see how the execution goes and but you know it's almost I said that yesterday Mike it's so early in the season even if the Patriots lose this game and yes admittedly they could lose this game. Even if they do it doesn't mean everything's over and that you should cash in your chips and wait till next year."

Play from 51:31[51:31]" Now they come home after the play in Miami though right there's a chance although in -- Indiana and they had a bye week. That may not be a -- half Euro -- well you could be looking at two and one going in October. It could be or if if that's what it is."

Play from 51:53[51:53]" Well I think that was one of the questions -- one -- do you think the building Victorino to a 11 and two in the bye week and it's wanted to hedge and I'll say two and one. But then again upon further reflection now I really think this team can be three -- going into the bye week you've -- again provided they have to make sure that they stay away from the you know injuries if they lose. You know a Seymour they lose a Bruschi defensively or in something like that then. Then the -- you're still talk about quite a bit to overcome here but if if they could stay relatively healthy. And they can stay relatively mistake free and I realize that may be a lot to ask. But if they can do that I have all the faith in the world that this team has enough talent built around castle to still be effective Willey scored thirty points a game no. But will they begin the game and have a chance to win the game."

Play from 52:40[52:40]" They should. While my biggest thing about this -- a tough game even before -- got hurt. Because -- because -- park presents our president. And I beat the Jets are an improved team that they may -- many moves in the off season from a team that went for a while that. It would almost be impossible it. All of them -- Yeah -- somewhere something has to work out because I'm at it where it's going to work out of that line he wanted to Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown and in Miami. A Patriots nation that -- you're listening to program like this. Because you want to be a part of it even though you may live in Timbuktu or Afghanistan wherever which of course where we had emails from. And we were at one from Timbuktu open and that's a goal but it was a goal hum. Fact is is that the overwhelming perception that a friend of mine who lives in San Antonio. College buddy of mine emailed me right after Brady went down and he said well I guess the season's over hop. That was that was the initial perception. And I think that that was the initial perception for for just about everybody oh count the seasons of Patriot fan or not. And then you have to reflect going to have to give -- chance -- you don't want to just re act in the heat of the moment because. Chances are very strongly having you know 89 time that a team you're going to retract your statement. Because you have to give it some reflection and I think if we get -- a couple of days it was back -- more and more Patriots fans are feeling. If not overtly optimistic about the season they're feeling at least a little more comfortable in what the season might still hold. And and we we did talk about this a little bit on yesterday's -- an effect you know talk about perceptions and how they might change because of a catastrophic injury like the Patriots have suffered. And you know -- the question the date yesterday was you know what do you think Peter's record will be now the Brady is how does it differ from what you originally -- this team would do. And most people. That responded yesterday were -- game or two. Off. Of what their original projection was for this team. In my own personal instance ice at thirteen entering. Before the season started. And -- of that might be on the low side as a thirteen three you know honestly -- really think they would get close to going undefeated this year anyway just so incredibly hard to do. And then. I'm saying now I think eleven and five certainly within the realm of possibility. And so that's that's different by two games. Now that doesn't mean that Tom Brady himself usually worth two wins. He actually can be worth a lot more but I'm trying to give credit right you credit should be due to this football. That this team is good enough built around Matt Cassel out. Where they can still be competitive and know will they they won't win too many games 49 to seven. -- but at the same time that 497 win might be 2414 or something you know and it still went. The Steelers should be considered the favorite in the AFC now that the Patriots lost Tom Brady. I can't imagine before week one that would have been that that would have been the answer. I think it's because the Steelers were so impressive in the opening win. That most people feel like -- you know they copy it and in the Steelers and got all gold again. Both for a week one question I I don't see that happen that you probably have the Colts followed by the Chargers and -- the Jaguars in that order. Before the Steelers would've ever even shown a bullet. But that's all due to weak -- games. The other teams in the us sports nation pole and teacher Anderson. Charges were second but way behind at 16% the Colts were third at 14% the jags were 3%. Other. The -- team other than the Steelers jags Colts Chargers other got 24%. Of the vote. Indicates to me that for the most part. Many fans do see this now is it wide open -- Hampshire as part of that other bills got some votes. -- of the Denver Broncos got their share of votes. Maybe even the Tennessee Titans got their share of votes may be the New York Jets. Got their share of votes as well. Wide open is what I think the thought process -- by the way did you see. And on sought on ESPN earlier today I don't know the NFL network at a spot on it I think this -- I'll wire somewhere where a fan I think it's -- Steelers fan is produce in the Marcus Pollard. T shirts. The other fan club right there on the teacher that has -- Brady's Jersey and in you know as the circle with a line through a type of thing is a way of thanking him. For giving them renewed faith renewed hope for the football season I mean. You know it's certainly not exactly a tasteful playing with the other selling teachers now Pollard fan club. For taking down taking out Tom Brady I don't know if you saw that not but I just thought that was sort of it's gonna struck me as you know perception. But but it may not be it in May not really be real -- perception is of course everything. And the perception is is that -- there were a lot of Patriots slash Tom Brady haters out there I don't a lot of you've said -- Embree stay no way. Which is still summing -- have to do all -- on the you're gonna get near as much hate the Patriots now. Simply because. People aren't going to waste the time embrace the hate no weight baby yeah. I don't know that that's going to be there as much as maybe it was going to be their -- was there a week ago. Oh by the way the other. ESPN thing I wanted to bring up was the power rankings. You know we like -- those from time to time around here. Power rankings -- little bit different. This week the Patriots of course going into week one with a overwhelming. Number one team in the NFL. Overwhelm you probably knew that he probably figured you might not do you look at it. In several you know web publications you know have power rankings is -- NFL network those Yahoo! I think does SI sailed right. Have there own version of who they think of the top ranked teams in financial globally well Patriots slid all the way from number one to number nine that. This week. In the power rankings."

Play from 1:07:17[1:07:17]" I can't say that that terribly it really spread and I've got to be more like about seven herself. I realize that you would go on -- week to week basis and that most of these powering you're supposed to be one singles snapshot. At a given moment. You know I spoke to take in consideration the fact that -- defending champs and that they should be given credit -- credit is due and that the champs until being beaten Nadia the other that is a snapshot of this team right now at this stage of the season. And the slipped -- with no one to number nine. It's when you look at it that way am like okay I guess I can understand that I'm not terribly surprised in fact maybe I'm only mildly surprised they didn't slip lower. Like twelve to fifteen. Because amateur. As I mentioned -- my -- the amateur that the rest of the league at least media wise gives the Patriots enough credit for having a team built up around Matt Cassel. -- that was going to see more more evidence that I think people are realizing you know what they actually might not be that bad now. The Cowboys were that. Top ranked team removal with the number three and number one this week Steelers went over to the Chargers. At 11. Ranked third in the European. Dot com power rankings are about kind of ridiculous. Special -- wash on Merriman for the year. The Saints were for the Giants five eagles' six Packers seven Colts eight. So Chargers and Colts at old one ranked ahead of the Patriots. At want to know."

Play from 1:08:48[1:08:48]" About that. And the Steelers Chargers. And Colts three teams in the AFC -- ranked ahead of the Patriots at number nine more NFC teams over the top of the heap. Of course the NFC at 82 win advantage over the AFC. Last week I believe overall so the the NFC I did a good job of representing last week it comes to you know interleague play. And maybe the tide is beginning to -- a little bit that's concerns for -- was some of the injuries that we've -- you know who knows. It's certainly worth considering it think at this stage of the game and -- he won't stay you know a dominant league for. An extended period -- time they actually already have. The law of averages always catches up."

Play from 1:09:32[1:09:32]" Let's see the law of averages can catch -- Jets and make them a better team. And how much Ken Brett Favre. In particular make them a better team. There's an interesting question we -- in the opening -- of the program day with with my printing. I mean it does this part of make them a better team or does this team rise up and become better because of our mere presence."

Play from 1:09:55[1:09:55]" I think if this team is going to improve radically over the four and twelve team it was a year ago. The rest the team has got to use Favre as a bench -- markets okay I've got to improve my own game I've that the come up two is level. At least for week one. In a road win yes it was over Miami but it was a win over the Rhode -- in the on the road twenty to fourteen for week one it would appear that. At least they're on the way. Certainly an improved Jets team. Defensively against the run I think that as we talked about as well is one significant thing that you can physically tell from the Jets. On top of you know giving. Produced a play quarterback as well although. Along those that that always did like -- buck Pennington was the truth for the Patriots side of yours. But far reader to -- still overall as -- of an improvement there are let's get into the conference Colts oh we have both Brett Favre and Eric Mangini was leadoff. Which one we want to -- with -- Okay I think it's going to be active since we've been talking about a let's start off with Brett Favre with members of the Patriots media via the conference call earlier today."

Play from 1:11:00[1:11:00]" Personal related personal reaction to what happened. And -- what was your sort of professional reaction to what's happened is smart what he's what did you."

Play from 1:11:08[1:11:08]" And a little about what the problem all. I somewhat awkward in the called last year when when you know -- broken record for touchdown passes and congratulated me and though. You know our relationship was really nothing more than that but. I got tremendous amount of respect for him. And what he's done and you know felt bad for -- that was. That's one of those injuries you know that's a freak injury happened anyone but. Definitely -- that steady and consistent long time. It is. And you know. That I know that the people but I don't pick on -- well. Quality hasn't been in control -- we've seen this put with a victory no problem. Well but you know what let's -- things that would -- so. Did you ever play at all -- I don't happen. Got an outstanding. But -- you can't overcome an -- professional reaction you know it's it's a shame. So unfortunate. But. Nobody when they've always been. If -- when he comes back he'll he'll be as good as ever."

Play from 1:12:27[1:12:27]" Brett being with the Jets. You do you bring to them of certain philosophy and how you played your football. They have a certain office -- philosophy. How is it that you mesh both remain -- have to as they have they brought instant things are done some things to. Go -- what you -- as a quarterback and you have to do some things as a quarterback to go with what -- philosophies."

Play from 1:12:51[1:12:51]" Vote I think there's. Well one lead in the middle of the year. They obviously -- you know my Detroit committee. Because of a well played over my career and the fact based open I can't play at eye level which probably do well. It is that is obviously different from what I'm used to. And that that seventy years under my belt but something totally different so. Well you know I didn't talk what might have a bomb through the whole process you know -- is -- like Brett. You know we're we're. Making it still preview. Because you knew you would like please let go. Maybe have a doubt about it wouldn't -- Hands. In the world take that chance when we're we're hoping that they could do that next level. The other thing if about saying that that's -- wrong. I think I give him credit whether me or someone else that he the world that they bitching. And this thing in the world that they -- chance. You know and so -- thought. That's all -- all. And I think to have had this conversation numerous times and advised shot. I would do whatever it takes to win. And go. And it's some plays that game no ability. What a perfect example that I didn't play. Didn't play very well. But an overall standpoint it was enough to win. Put much better. I'm still in the past where -- the skill but also ahead at the same time that makes -- how we're trying to -- to make it that we're completely horrible. They know what. What do it and focus more on what they're still. Well folks know what they're doing and that lets -- of this notebook to probably face swept because it and do it worked quite irregular sleeping -- right now but. And that process. What I get from provide that -- Brett play your day. Whatever that may be playing your game obviously that both the good. The little things that you here we can't we just a true ball you know. Calculated risk but -- live -- not do certain things. So true I only need to be told that -- also true but it also Brett play your game. And so that's probably did about the last thing I would do -- out and play at bat. Clearly. Well I think it is being the best chance to win whatever that they picked --"

Play from 1:15:25[1:15:25]" And -- don't want to give away secrets the other opposition of it as a quarterback what advice would you give to -- after the when it was first start you know -- the nerves going to be there's that big divisional game on the road and what he remembered when you first thrust into -- with a packet in the dusty went down."

Play from 1:15:41[1:15:41]" Well. Second this really give Matt -- grow that much -- it but I think he's a ball and put that I've been -- pretender. Yeah I understand so well the other days so. I really haven't thirty got you ready you work this this opportunity and -- and well. Particularly. But what brought committee affect every that it ever had that first thought there was no person that I let go through Livermore call. Nobody. Went -- ever root. -- played in the passing offense so all the options star offensive and what was best defensive almost starting quarterback and definitely whatever I have to do all blocked in. -- and they did just you -- it. And so all our relying on the run I had a lot of talent. Wrong didn't know how to use it means committee to pick out double cover triple covered it didn't matter -- broke rule. And yeah well maybe it was -- They present precision of my game didn't come until later -- just kind of Reading defenses. And look at it from a different perspective. There are that we do Mike Holmgren -- I think back sample related. Except patrol -- the other -- battle these injuries why doesn't continue to play well."

Play from 1:17:03[1:17:03]" Quickly and obviously on a question we know you have to run what you thoughts about the Patriots defense that you're gonna go against on Sunday."

Play from 1:17:10[1:17:10]" You're damn good. Play from 1:17:56[1:17:56]" Are there some Brett Favre on the conference call members of the Patriots media earlier today at Gillette Stadium will hear from. Jets coach Eric Mangini coming up in just a little bit web radio at Patriots dot com which continue here inside the playable for Wednesday. Just to kind of recap some of the other things that we can talk about. The first and foremost was on the young espn.com poll today we're. About 43% of the respondents said that they thought the Steelers would be considered the favorite now in the AFC. If you agree or disagree with a particular assessment and which team do you think if not the Patriots should be considered the favorite in the AFC now. Web radio at Patriots dot com -- the email address where you can send your answer. -- To that end we -- this email. I'm from ousted the Patriots should still the favorite in the AFC they have a better defense than the other teams they are always at the top or near. The top of the league in points allowed and total yards given up. The -- system. You still in place in the of the best receivers -- Cassell can manage a game in avoid turnovers. All the running backs could start for another team we have two solid tight ends and a strong -- line the DBs will be cellar this year with capers. As the coach so now obviously he's clearly in the Patriots corner where that's concerned. -- comes from a friend Dagmar Miami uses -- last time I wrote was before the Super Bowl. Lot of things have happened since then but definitely Brady's loss is the biggest disappointment. I think this is a true test for the Patriots system. And I have high expectations about this team yes. Brady is out but who knows what ever else may happen and the Colts have a horrible season may be San Diego to who knows what may have with Pittsburgh. If I have to pick a team all the than my Patriots in the AFC I would say Pittsburgh. In the NFC it would say Cowboys. They go -- want to thank you prepare you know. I don't think. I don't think I would I don't think I would have chosen Pittsburgh. Even in light of their we don't we want to win I just don't think I would have chosen Pittsburgh and I would think that if not the Patriots. In the AFC I think the team that I most likely would have gone would would have been the Colts. And again I realize that Peyton Manning didn't play a lick in the pre season either because of his you know -- situation. And yes the Colts looked. Fairly mediocre not downright miserable in their opening loss on a Sunday night to the Chicago Bears. And by the way the Bears looked what do you better than I thought capable playing special with a -- quarterback but hey you know was given some credit anyway. I still play the Colts will be there at the end. I think San Diego will probably be competitive although I do think -- missing Merriman will cost them somewhat defensively but they have not changed. That much offensively although what that they'll also miss Michael Turner who's now make -- name for himself and Atlanta. I think Pittsburgh has an opportunity this weekend there but we didn't -- the team to beat. You know in a sense of Al's right the Patriots should still believe that the debate."

Play from 1:21:00[1:21:00]" Until someone beats them. There's still the team debate that makes perfect sense. Would just it out logically. That's the answer but if not the Patriots then -- do well I am still going to go with the with the Indianapolis Colts. Even -- you know I was surprised to see what I did on Sunday are. I still have to say the Colts that would be more selection."

Play from 1:21:25[1:21:25]" Provided they don't take anymore it's. Injury wise I -- the Colts this they play the pre season similarly to the Patriots not very impressive. Saved a lot of bodies maybe that caused them to be a little bit calm down maybe Chicago which is more motivated you know who knows. Because the civil couple years and who knows who knows how much that actually has factor -- Milan in the that would. Who knows it's one game. It's a mere blip on the radar right now. Now if we see you know the Colts continue to trend here over the next week or two. Wheldon then obviously we reassessed but I still think the Colts would have to be considered. Right up there with Patriots and everybody else in the AFC that's kind of where. I'm coming from you have your chance to come from a certain direction as well if you want to contribute to program. Web radio at Patriots dot com a lot of other football news today that either directly or certainly in directly what effect the Patriots on the field. Opponents possible future opponents. Perception strength. Injuries over the league -- Jacksonville Jaguars. I've had you know Brad Meester out for weeks. -- senator Vince Amanda why I was on IR. It up put on our earlier this week starting guard Mo Williams was placed on IR today. So. There's three big losses for the Jacksonville Jaguars team that also was thought of highly I think in. Pre season mode in the AFC is taken out one not two but three. Pretty good Sox to the gut. And maybe. Maybe eligibility is Tom Brady going down -- let's face it that's significant nevertheless. -- we also mentioned that Marcus Colston. I was going to be up 46 weeks for the New Orleans Saints after having some. Finger surgery in I think the Washington Redskins who have played in this weaker probably cheering that particular thought. So 46 weeks -- Colston injury might be optimistic according to pro football forum dot com today. Com Alex Smith discussed -- career as quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers they're saying is on officially over. The team announced today 49ers did that Smith has been placed on IR with a shoulder injury that he suffered in practice last Friday. So my guess would be that you know if he's done for the year the probable keep around next year because -- is salary which will be astronomical so. I would say that yeah he probably is done as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. Here's another story of the came out well by the way the 49ers today in because of the Smith being placed on IR. 49ers have signed it Jamie Martin. Who will serve as the third string quarterback behind JT O'Sullivan and Shawn Hill and let strikes fear in the hearts of 49ers. Opponents everywhere but Jamie Martin. Was a pick up today by the 49ers and of course 49ers will be Patriots opponent coming up the open in weekend -- over. On the Colts head. Ed Johnson defensive tackle well rested early this morning for marijuana possession. What you saw that. But. You know in nor the word other than when it happened -- how damaged he was arrested. -- early in the morning for marijuana possession so -- that -- interest. All the Tennessee Titans. Did sign quarterback free agent quarterback Chris Simms today. He was alleged to have been in Foxborough a couple of days ago. And while he did make an appearance in Foxborough he was not signed to anything or nor was he worked out by the Patriots on Monday. And because of Vince young's. Precarious situation where he's going to miss anywhere from two to four weeks with a sprained knee ligament. There and of course all the things that go along with his. I guess is mental stability with last they're so. Strange stuff one X Texas quarterback is now going to try to fill in the gap for another ex Texas quarterback is Chris Simms. It's been signed to be a backup for the Tennessee Titans. What's it well we have in terms of signings. And injuries Sean Jones from the Cleveland Browns. He's going to have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee so the Browns -- is going to be out. It's as -- several weeks. The Cleveland plain dealer is reporting that he's going to miss several weeks although. Not really known how many weeks several will be. But Sean Jones looks like he's going to miss some time now for the Cleveland Browns. We have many others here think that pretty much covered in terms of the entries and such today. Patriots of course as we mentioned did bring back and re signed met -- here is to the team today. Husband signed to the other practice squad officially. Are so he can be the third QB."

Play from 1:26:14[1:26:14]" Oh yeah Seattle com rob sims guard. Torn pec muscle looks like he could be gone for the year. We mentioned Colston. Mentioned Vince Young out today as well. It's where else I guess that pretty much catches up with pitches -- up on the entries I didn't want to dumb. Follow -- go on the whole -- Bernard Pollard story. You know. I know Vince Wilfork has been somewhat. Vocal at least in the locker -- some members of the Patriots media or his displeasure at -- not being. I guess. Find it courtroom or at least punished and some for a fashion like he was for what you thought was a similar. Injury a year ago similar hit a year ago. You know everybody has their own opinion more than pollard's hit on Tom Brady was. Illegal or dirty you're. Not necessary. You know I've looked at him several times many times so many times now that I just don't like the look at it anymore. Being a victim of a knee -- many many years ago it always makes my joints. You know the twins just -- ability some Wales -- of the like that -- them."

Play from 1:27:28[1:27:28]" I don't think it was a and legal hit per say although if you look at the rule in anything below the legs below the knees is supposed to be considered illegal. He was more blocked into Brady by Sammy Morris if you look at it on videotape. And he was merely reaching out and trying to grab for Tom which is a player who's on his way down toward the ground. Instinctively that's what you're going to do you're trying to make apply. And so because he's reaching and try to make a play and got blocked into when he ends up clipping if you will common that's what Tom landed awkwardly and tore his knee and so I don't think it's hard to. It's hard to see your heart to say that he did something that would be considered illegal. And I ended in a -- scene where Vince Wilfork has. He has I guess. A right to be somewhat upset."

Play from 1:28:24[1:28:24]" Not going to change anything. But I can understand his point of view. As the head coach in the -- Jets he's got a unique challenge I think ahead of him his team has gone from being an afterthought a matter of weeks. He's team has gone from being an afterthought and where maybe people were starting to doubt his ability. To a team that some of the New York we believe should be considered the favorite in the AFC east. Based on the fact that Brett Favre has arrived. Offensively and maybe -- based on partially in fact that a guy like Chris Jenkins. Is really shored up at least for one week anyway -- running game defensively. With the Jets and of course based on the fact the Patriots have come back to the pack. A little bit in the wake of Tom Brady's absence so. He's Eric Mangini that much better coach now than it was saved. Four weeks ago before he knew this took place. Mark. Okay maybe he's smart maybe he's also lucky and -- things out. It. I think this team that you are that common more than once last year about Mangini maybe this team actually is a little bit better than. We originally thought they would be. Play from 1:44:09[1:44:09]" What we try to do each -- is it is. Be able to play -- strikes and be able to. Attack our policy we just sit and one of the things that we focus worked with Brett. It is you're trying to incorporate. All the all the different things -- we'd like to do in terms of going to a game plan and obviously he was behind. When he came in terms of the overall playbook. The whole playbook going at any given week anyways. At any focus some plays that your run that -- and there's so dispense some give and take in terms of terminology. But. It's been positives.
