I have to admit though that just about every football website it's out there has some kind of -- kind of power rankings. Don't you think -- everybody land on Sports Illustrated doctors this is on our thinking you know everybody's got to fixation with who ranks best I mean it's sort of I guess that the whole continuation of the you know college topped 45 everybody. You know considers you know the AP top 25 in the USA today top 25 as being the Bible and it's fun to talk about. In and I guess sort of gauge the relative strengths of teams collegiate -- because you don't really have a true championship game. Although some would say the -- is that what you know it gives you a lot of and they always debate and yet only -- always room for debate and so when the NFL. Began to become more widespread than it already is with its. You know proliferation of web sites out there. They decided to follow on the collegiate model even though of course the unifil has a playoff system at a very good -- in place and they only allow their top twelve teams. In the playoffs which I think certainly gives a lot of credibility. To the regular season and you know wouldn't hurt I think they let -- two more teams in per conference but that's another story for another day. What I'm getting to here is that every football website now has their own version of these power rankings. Because people haven't fans have a fixation with who was the best who is number one and who is the last 32 out of 32. We know white just from having covered this team with a less of yours that you know the Patriots have been up at the top of most of the power rankings for the last several years. Just because of what they've done on the field and perhaps deservedly so although it was a time I think it was in oh. For. During the last Super Bowl year where they spent some time. Out of the top spot. A lot Patriots fans took offense. And I think the Patriots were able to utilize some of that is the whole you know boulder on the shoulder thing right the whole load disrespect. And sort of along those lines today. I went and checked into 34 by six different web sites and that have power rankings that I knew right off the bat you know -- that I know that -- I need that he's right. Not one of them. Not one of them last night anyway and I haven't checked there were three -- them to two of them that I did not check yet again today -- last night. But not one of them had the Patriots ranked in the top ten. And -- well actually the last I checked that was one of them they had the ninth okay night. But. You just for an example here in this part of the reason why I'm really glad we have recruit you because and that they'll dot com does you know their power rankings to. In they have the Dallas Cowboys rank number one which is I really have no argument based on what we saw that Monday night game fantastic game. Open down the field you know that the two deep -- should be ashamed of themselves -- pedigree. You know can't argue the offense they can score they can move the ball -- exciting to watch. And of course the ratings in general -- talk but it's not that the ratings with the highest rated -- television program on cable ever. It beat out no kidding I did you know that it beat out the Patriots Ravens game last December -- at their record -- every year is it just me. No it's not just view it does seem like it falls every year but I think it just it it adds credibility -- the fact that the NFL is still -- and eighties on top of all of sport right now surrounding this globe that we live on the National Football League has overtaken well overtaken baseball and anything else that is there and includes soccer I mean I realize that we a lot of listeners from Europe and Asia in in in all over especially a lot from mom from England. And I know that you know via the foot over there is is very popular as Willie should because it's played at a very high level -- the National Football League. At least certainly in America and I think it's it has continued to catch on elsewhere which -- disappointed that in a two year old to be honest with you but. It is it's it dominates here in this country. And that football game money between the Cowboys Eagles was the top rated cable television program of all time which is just it's stupid but it was. Now the Cowboys are ranked number one in the NFL dot com powering. The Patriots. Are not number two nor the three or they five nor are they tendon nor are they twelfth. They have the top twelfth ranked. And they haven't under the heading of in the hunt. You know teams that I believe they feel like can contend right right then they have middle of the pack and then they have need work. The Patriots at two and now. Are in the middle the pack. And that the only to an old team. That in the middle of."

[7:45]" Well I would say that probably is predicated on the fact that Tom -- here anymore though -- as you -- the Titans -- Beat and he is now with the backup quarterback as well on Kerry Collins though you gotta put Tennessee. -- know the Tennessee Titans ranked ninth -- adding that little that can give you a few examples of war I think this thing is really out of whack yes."

The Titans are not the Colts at seven at one on one. Of course they're going to miss Bob Sanders now for six weeks that was the story today out of Indianapolis. Width of the high ankle sprain. Colts rank seventh. I'm here are rated Cowboys won Giants to know -- no qualms -- that Rios packers' three. Panthers four bills five Steelers. Colts Broncos. Titans Saints. That's the top ten."

[8:52]" I'm not sure how the Colts in the top ten. At one and one and barely at one and one that we got a victory over Minnesota which I think highly overrated begin about Arizona Cardinals ranked twelfth. Ahead of the Patriots. You know that maybe that could be the surprise element there you know it they with Arizona and Buffalo both to a -- had very good point differentials right now it scoring a lot of points. And not allowing a lot of points of the -- are doing as they're -- winning right now if these two weeks winning these close. Relatively low scoring games and probably of people looking at that not all that impressed because it'll -- driving people hold on to the team -- last year. They at the bar so -- they're going sixteen you know breaking point record in the NFL. And now is being to a know with two close part always apparently is not enough to crack the top and power. I think I think that's where come on I'm not justifying and I think that that I agree with that because I don't right now. All to meet her all the got to put top ten. There's 1234578910. And right now the one of one team who has -- Korea with the Jets haven't looked Korea want to won the Indianapolis no Oakland obvious not. Which you put Chicago win or New Orleans not into roses -- as the world has allowed more points are scored."

If you want to put the -- teams in their I have no problem put the bills in the top twelve to 21 because they are -- well but I don't know how the Patriots become only -- team. Put in and ranked in the middle the pack in the ranked in the middle the pack with a couple teams that are all into in Jacksonville and Minnesota."

[10:40]" Yet and it depends on your interpretation of our rankings are is how good they are now always is he long term. Does Mike get people think long term that is not going to last. Where did the Patriots should benefit from this because -- so good at turning this around and using it to their advantage. The Patriots could look at this as they -- huge now because again. Here's you know all of these people that supposedly know what the heck they're talking about. Not giving any credit where credit may be due to the defense. To Matt Cassel certainly two Randy Moss to Bill Belichick to anybody on this team thinking that -- just because again Tom Brady is down this team can't possibly be any good to an outlaw."

John yes this is NFL dot com power rankings yesterday okay -- look at right now to kind of -- what you can usually put a liner to to kind of just by their reasoning for. I'm just curious as to what they had to say about the Patriots and and why they maybe twelve wide and happy heart and."

[12:38]" Baron well he only has comments that to the top twelve at -- and then he's got the Patriots lumped in the middle the pack. On in alphabetical order behind the Jacksonville Jaguars Minnesota Vikings. Chicago Bears Baltimore Ravens Atlanta Falcons."

[12:53]" I mean don't get to Barrett's people that because I think on a national level. A lot of credit has been given away deep and played it's likely the -- they've had two key ops in as many weeks. And also credit to special teams well we saw even how's he doing on the phenomenal. The -- call or field goals and I've -- back six and kick off went into the end zone and going down brought out Leonel Austin dropped the twenty yard line -- even thrown. So they dominate on special teams and for all intents and Burke dominated on the fans. Result -- you know it was a great team victory I think there has been credit given to that. And that's the biggest thing right now Bowen but -- like doing reflecting here -- well not because not reflecting in the national perception of his team probably not because what happens that and national levels -- looking at all 32 teams that they've taken things -- the most. You know it's taken a big game breaking play our player who comes out in. You know maybe catches three touchdowns -- game it's going to be -- the eye popping having to grab national headlines. Winning methodically into winning. Close in the games where you to dominate in in you sort of I want to eighteenth in Tokyo in on the -- but when you do that. It doesn't a lot of attention nationally really doesn't. Okay well and maybe it'll take then not yet right now that's right -- that -- that I think that's the thought process on the national level. Okay there and there are a lot of surprises like Denver -- surprised a lot of people myself included. Arizona tune oh pretty good or right now that's why I think that in the national attention because the Cardinals have never been good. That's now on the -- you know then are we although it was going to be terrible Denver is now -- you know tennis eat with everything that happened what Vince Young. Mears -- another game. And their got us started yet and I are going to get it in the building to a no big prize you know. You gotta -- do something different I think it to get the national attention that's been good a year as everybody knows they're good I think sometimes you under the radar. Well."

Means that the Giants deserve consideration we giant offense we've been very impressive offensively -- left point on the field. But defense -- they've picked up and left off -- I Umenyiora and Strahan and a lot of people ought to have a hard time with that and so far the exact numbers are all there so. We really don't there's no dirt there's no durability factor built -- so I've seen him come in for one play on first down and then -- on second right. So that's why I'm I'm questioning mr. ability. And certainly play cause a lot to do with it but I'd like to see them stick with -- for awhile if if he gave her reason if he gave no reason to stick with him and -- would. They're so competitive."

The point differentials -- really a lot. -- gotta admit I'm I'm -- plus 37 and and that really and I don't think anybody really close. Those and to Beth and point difference not all -- point different line stand but when you have at this point easily so close and you've only had two week ought to -- team. That's the need to look at a look at how many points scoring how many points allowing and how they -- in those games if you watch both Giants games. They've dominated both games now at the Oregon Washington is logical -- it should have been because point on the field and the speed of guys at the end. Right now between them in Dallas I would say probably the two most dominant teams at this point Arizona -- throwing there as well the climate they're like the appointment onus on others -- disappointments. But I think the deposition might actually end up being stronger than originally intended which is part of the reason why we're not seeing guys like Wheatley and Wilhite over there is."

Since the AFL out of the merger in 1970 there were some lean years in there although that the other was the you know the 76 season which is pretty good in the record -- of the 85 who will seasons -- it and there's really -- years here the late eighties early ninety's and -- it to. You know since 199394. When Bill Parcells them came in to run the franchises the fortunes. For the most part by and large is certainly turnaround and a positive sense -- over the last you know 1516 years. I can't say that I'm terribly surprised by this what they did is they. Basically two regular season winning percentage. In the weighted heavily to give all the teams a fair appraisal. Teams that join the NFL after 1970 -- certainly at a disadvantage here in some of the categories. But then the course and again you can look at -- they have an advantage in what they're calling negative category they had less opportunity to be bet. The formula that ESPN used measured Super Bowl championships and appearances. Post season history which includes playoff wins and big defeats. Also regular season consistency which is the overall winning percentage. The number of seasons with twelve or more wins the number of seasons with four or fewer wins. It measured. All-Star power of the words number of team number players selected to the all pro. Teams. Overall franchise stability which includes the number of coaching changes and the number of first round draft busts. Includes media buzz in fan interest and it. Monday Night Football appearances because after all we realized that dominant football quite a bit there's a lot of interest in -- It's so anyway. That there was an interesting set of criteria that. The writers on page two when he is gonna come used to determine the all time. Best. In NFL power rankings since 1970 which was the AFL NFL merger. The number one team really shouldn't come as a surprise and on the recently that with the almost Pittsburgh. Or maybe San Francisco in the number one team -- Dallas. The Cowboys. Since the merger. They have had even though I know that there was a couple lean years in there but. They lead the NFL -- Super Bowl berths and playoff wins in this modern era and we called modern era. All the time spent since the 1970 merger. But they ranked in the top three in scoring eleven times that right to -- scoring -- eight times since 1970. We've been in the in the future average at game fourteen times in the time period. So it really shouldn't surprise of the Cowboys were at the top of that list of the senior editor for NFL dot com."

Rowand and in certain decades and and you know I I might have leaned toward that the steeler team as being one that 44 for its consistent success but. One I think you look at what what. That there Ellis did what it multiple Super Bowl wins in that in the ninety's. It is probably watched we're swaying bad that particular poll I would guess. That and of course you can't ignore. How the how the Patriots have triple on this circuit."

I am there's a lot of people seem to be running with the idea. That he has picking he has. Because I have the utmost respect for. What what Bill Belichick is able to do and how are capable -- overcome. And at that record as a reflection of -- I don't know little -- If there's going to still be enough to carry a team that is still in my -- to sort of succeed and dominate. What is. The guy named Brady understands I am I I think this is a different team a very different team. Then but one that was. That if you go back to the first Super Bowl first couple of what went and and they they'd been. Sort of really tailored -- really designed. To capitalize. I'm. The big hit the big plays. The scoring -- and and and all the things that I think all look calm in some respects. Some issues that could be either on the -- and that's saying that the fence is it's flat out a weakness I I just don't know. I'm not sure yet how strong it truly is because in the course of last year there were elements of -- team that we're not trust it. To the fullest because they didn't have to be. B you know in the Patriots multiply didn't early -- games in the when they did have a couple of struggles. Baltimore being you know one on one that comes to mind. What why did they what was the difference in the ballgame and once again it was the ability at number twelve. That that told you something about what the potential was. If they also made some additional improvements and I think they've done that the necessary additions that sort of Stroud Kawika Mitchell. And then and then you know we saw for the first time to change party. Coming in and and making and that the remarkable catch in the end zone. But that red zone play play that he made big six foot but receivers the kind of thing that's a dimension they haven't had before. Well we've seen it now and we true and I think it's something the bills -- going to show. As -- most well."

In the current you know you can only I think you should only deal with the team and its current state and and -- and offered today and now. What they -- and the body of work. -- I it's yeah maybe maybe the first week it comes to mind but it's not. The body that in the body work can't be any any wider. They had what the offseason moves work to put the team you know that helps certain areas and in certainly picnic the yacht. You're you're you're you're understanding. Of the team you're perception of what he missed about going into the season. Through the pre season and and it that's what it's not that I put zero back into outcome appreciate just how the team. You know held up how you know did that the PR the pieces in place -- our guys. Healthy that they brought -- border guys playing are their other guys we've signed to these -- as free agents actually. In the starting lineup we'll have regular roles because that as a way of changing once they get on the pre season -- there on the field and pre season games or in practice split on what they're capable of yes it is in the other. Is definitely another aspect because I it likes change some things especially in the works now we've got two pretty solidly of their. That there's a lot I think you can tell about -- team that's headed. Based on some of this strengths and values chemistry is an example their their decent strength. -- me a lot of of reason to think that they can go somewhere and Terry Collins. Taking over quarterback brings stability that frankly was you know the thing that they didn't have with Vince young and and that's a huge. That's a sea change for that you know not unlike the the sea change for the -- except the sea change for the pitcher to quarterback of that. It is in my view right now is that there's a big negative for for Tennessee. It it could mount into a a positive that could take them along why."

Or likely not in the lineup or maybe one -- two comeback this week but you know to go tiger starting center for a couple of weeks -- whole line that's been. That took a whole bunch of players. Within their first. You know two or three games -- a couple of and Oxford. ID -- only lead the best thing in the whole Peyton Manning thing -- he didn't play through the pre season and looks like he's just your strength its timing together was received but. What do we do to solve this I mean you know the argument -- its focus again on Tom Brady is is is there is who can legislate. Something that would have prevented that hit from taking place a guy falling a body lean in standing employees doing what he spoke to do. Are so much different compared to college where normally deal with eighteen to twenty real college. And approach can be built 22 although -- forty so it's a lot different."
