Anyway you gotta pick one thing that really bothered use the most about Sunday. -- nit pick of the week here on the big Tuesday and it's in the web radio at Patriot -- On and I got -- that aren't going to share with -- it might be the same as you but in even if -- is -- share with me anyway. Please do hum. Number one. Has to be the fact that the Patriots. Were ultimately rendered defenseless against the single wing formation. That Miami rent. I mean they put Ronnie Brown back there to take the of the direct snap. And he just jobs the Patriots up the middle. I know what's the linebacker Weston wood and linebackers I'm on the particular -- It was just it was just my you does boggle -- and then here coach Belichick say in yesterday's. News conference that they had practiced that. Because they kind of expected from the Jets and -- run that with Washington before in the past so they actually practiced that in it. Out there on the field look completely and totally. Clueless I'd just blew me away like they practiced at. They were -- maybe the Miami could run and yet they were clueless on Sunday -- left. -- it was not standing -- It's a throwback to. -- you know. I'm nineteen. Thirties forties and fifties football one team -- single wing formations they put their best athlete in particular. At the quote on quote quarterback position. You know put him in a shotgun direct net run with a ball. Very simple as nothing fancy about it. Or what the Miami Dolphins it was as they -- Atlanta overload overloaded line of scrimmage by boat and putting both tackles on the same line overload one side. In an effort to get your best blockers in front your best athlete. And they just -- the Patriots I was funded by the simplicity. Of the play and the formation and the ineptitude. That the Patriots showed in the spending. Darned. What do they do it. -- Absolutely. Stunned I don't know any other way to say it. So that that's my chief. Football if you will nitpick. Because they just seemed ill prepared. And you have not been able to say that about the Patriots. Very often if at all. Under this coaching regime. In 2000. The one thing. That you have. The one thing that you always been -- in the one -- and you've been able to bring. But the Patriots have brought to the table is the fact that this team is always prepared for its opponent. They they -- The film study the important game plan as well as any team may be ever has in the history of the modern NFL. That you could put you know the mortgage. And yet this week they were his -- prepared is I have ever seen the Patriots. Now. I'm wondering. If it was more so the Patriots being on prepared. Or maybe it was a little bit you know how the Dolphins this order of threw caution to the -- control of the with a game plan this week and even works as we really don't have details to lose. In on this season's pretty much a wash and we know. I have to admit I like that swashbuckling. Cavalier attitude at Miami showed like hey we're gonna run the stuff it hasn't on doing it. Maybe we get hasn't successful going to do it differently we're going to do it our way we're going to dictate to you and I think that's one thing that bothered me the most that is that the Dolphins. Imposed their will on this football team. And usually it's the other way around that's why this is a shocking. Change. Of character. For the team the program this organization. You know the football club that everything -- shocking turn of events. I don't again pretend to believe that it is signaling a downward spiral. Although I guess like that earlier. It's possible that the next few weeks could you know in the -- them but I don't believe we're headed that direction. You know I think we'll realize that that maybe this is just a blip on the radar screen. And that potentially. You will see this team get help the her. In a hurry because of the overall strength of schedule that they have which is not terribly strong. You know again time will tell that as well on him -- is reluctant to once tartan. In Buffalo's three now he's going to play them twice the thing that really bothers me about on these laws and this isn't necessarily nitpick but. -- that really bothers them the -- the fact that it came in the division. Tonight you're really behind the eight ball when you go down play in Miami in December. -- once again. You need to when they get you one and one of the division. It's good that you won on the road in all. At the Jets but you lost at home team that you should have beaten. You're expected to beat and you didn't do for whatever reason. Whether you're ill prepared or the other team just threw caution of the win and and blow you away with the game plan and you didn't. Get the job done and I think that's kind of what -- has all the most the other nit pick that I want to share here with you in the another question that I have fear that I had I'd love for -- answer blow. Today is our question of the day here web radio Patriots dot com. The Boston newspapers in particular the heralded written over the last few days about. You know those comments from Ellis Hobbs in particular you probably know weren't going with a about how though the fans were booing and and you guys have talked a little bit about that. But do you feel as if Patriot fans are spoiled. I I what you did it. I don't want you to give me what you think everybody else thinks I want to know what you personally think. What do you personally think are used boiled. By the Patriots one of six at the last several years. Could it be that the fans were well I mean I have to admit I I I fully expected. When the game was over I fully expect the fans to boo and maybe I'm conditioned to little bit more. I can't that I was terribly surprised by it. Then again and hasn't I mean you know I remember when fans used the -- regular. Girl. And you probably written many of you probably remember that as well. Com -- some of the younger players on this team and in this organization. That was. That was a new experience. Hobbs being one of the I'm not entirely surprised that they seemed to be taken aback by that. But I think the smart player. On the east and the veteran player realizes that. My guess. Would be calm. They they did it that you know you're only as good as your last game. And so you know that probably just choose not to calm stating publicly about a but the younger players and something. And so -- it's simple question do you personally believe that Patriot fans are spoiled. And it might that is there's no doubt. That's an absolute unequivocal yes Patriots fans are spoiled rotten. Brats. For the most part. Some of you are spoiled by -- that I consider you know our group here. Those -- either listen this program what regularly in tune in Patriots dot com radio and contributed PFW in progress and all the here. I consider us you know -- the hardcore you know pretty much. We really want to Patriots picks we want to talk about the news that team is making I would like to have fun with -- but. We do some interesting things your column around the football program but is all about the football team here. And I would say. Some of you undoubtedly are spoiled by the success. Maybe you're even willing to say that. Hey John I've been spoiled by the team. And frankly I have a right to -- I pay a lot of money or what have you end. Old there you go that's how I feel about it okay that's fine I would love to hear that point of view if one exists out there. If you find the fact that the fans and thousands of them that remaining in the stands at the in the game if you find what they did detestable. Classless. Clueless. That's fine too I'd like to hear them. That'll ambivalent about it I thought it odd yet I expected it because I remember how Patriots -- have been through the decades. It was odd because we haven't heard it for a while. And people don't realize that you know. Things change. People changed teams changed personnel changes. Com nothing ever stays the same this team this organization has put up. A remarkable Lee consistently. Strong numbers and effort. Throughout the course of this decade. And even if they fall flat on their face this year and next there's no doubt in my mind the Patriots are still the team of the decade. Nobody else is going to top that at least in this particular decade. And I don't think that's going to happen I still think they've got a few years left in this run. That my own personal opinion. But you know we all little how the other half lived on on. And I guess that's the that was the most interesting part of that I didn't like it and nobody had any on here on Sunday there's no doubt about that but. Dot com it was just an interesting observation. In in in character in human interest and everything else to see that you know want. They love you one minute but when you always -- they're gonna they're going to hate on him the next. That unfair. I'm undoubtedly would say that is on there. Some fans -- it is unfair. All I don't necessarily think that -- fans would say that I just some bands that's unfair others who. You know have a higher the sense of expectation. Maybe those who you don't pay a lot of money after all a professional game it's an expensive sport. These guys make a lot of money if they don't put up an effort like that I if I put up whenever I got on the job on one particular day you know I could get my -- can't well it's true. As opposed to opening -- what you do for letting. I suppose that's true. But you can't fire. You know 53 players. I only plays ready to -- coach Belichick just yet. I actually. Think. That I have a solution. I don't know that it would cure all the problems in fact. I will admit right here that it could create more problems than his words but I kind of feel like you need a little on some. You know you need a little jumpstart it will kicked you little. Something to help give the team an edge and you know I've talked so often. And and these guys team and the media round today talks often about this team creating their own age. Their own. Motivation. This team is good -- put an annual bolder on the shoulder. And we thought that may be a guy like Joey Porter thank you Joey and opened his mouth last week would you know certainly be enough. And the fact that most. And national media especially outside of this region continues to. Downplay the Patriots and say that their dawn and that you know they're not good even -- the division they may not get into the playoffs this year because of the laws of Tom Brady. With all that that might be enough. What I think that this Sunday's game will show you is that these guys these players on this team don't look at it like that. These players I feel like if if if they get hit over the head by the same thing often enough. That I think that they'll build grouped together the band together as Brothers or what have you his teammate and the come together and play for the cause and and do well. But I think when you get hit over the head. So much. After a while you become numb to at all. And I'm wondering if maybe this team failed to seize the emotional opportunity. Presented to it. Through the dis respecting in the media. And through the words of Joey Porter last week in his -- like here we go again. No big deal let's just Jordan do our job and they really didn't get the emotional charge. That they've received in the past from similar. Situation. What do you what do you think about that particular. Accurate inaccurate I just -- the team took advantage of the situation that presented it to their last week. So because of that I think this team does need a little bit above all the shake up. I think -- one thing that would cure. Some of the ill right now if of course there are still feels to be cured. As they've looked at the videotape over the last couple of days this team I think somebody should lose their job. Cut somebody kick amount. For. Bring them audience. Of the that would cause there're a -- Caused players to be on their toes cause players to be sitting on the edge of their seat. Cause players to be looking over their shoulders like oh what's he gonna do next. Just a little something to create. On certainty. Apprehension. You know. Even a little stress if you will. Somebody get the heart rate pounded a little bit some of them had to get guys operate with a sense of urgency not only on the game day but in their every day practice effort. And -- go back to -- we talk about two weeks ago and our opening week here. I think if they can make a deal for Jeff Garcia they should do. You know this isn't this is not meant as being disrespectful. To Matt Cassel. I they will realize that you don't Tom Brady was only five and three in his first eight darts. As a Patriot quarterback okay so let's keep that in mind as we look at Matt Cassell who's now one and one. Tom Brady did not start all. Like the Tom Brady we know now. But then again. We didn't think that the team was really built to go anywhere in 2001 did we. This team is built to go somewhere. This team as I said earlier was only up a fluke play away from Britain from being another four times a bowl champ in the last seven years. This team still has the pieces of the puzzle in place. And I think I saw enough on Sunday. Some of the -- the cast ole miss. And trying to bring the team back I mean they were bad throws way off the mark. Fact is is that the book I'm Matt Cassel is that when he releases the ball drop. Because he has at least two -- three -- every game batted down the line of scrimmage. And bring in somebody would fix when I'm saying is that a veteran presence someone in and -- to what about the the team on and progressing here but. This -- a little bit about Josh mcdaniels. You know and the quarterback not recognized in this have they not worked with Matt Cassel went to improve his. Arm angle so he doesn't. Had -- like get batted down the line of scrimmage he comes in local. He's a big boy he should be able to get over the top of these guys. -- I I is Jeff Garcia the answer may -- not. But the one thing another Jeff Garcia heads. Is he's got veteran experience. He's -- play making ability. He generally seems to. Be respected around the league although. Normally you but it is the one thing that bothers me is that he seems to have a short stay in a month ago. Penalties because teams keep finding better options than him. It is a great way for either a him to go out on a high note because he's got a team year in a -- on the built to win now. Or he's got a chance now to rehab his. Quote unquote playing -- If he's hoping to work for another couple years after -- You know the Patriots are going to have to look for the backup quarterback next year anyway -- just basically renting the guy for the rest of the year as they would -- with Matt -- I mean keep in mind numbing canceled it is history this deal he won't be back next year. He's banking on having this opportunity propelled him to a starting job somewhere else in the NFL it won't be year. And he won't stay here for the same 300000 dollars a year watery as he's making as a back up either and know what I blame it. The Patriots will be in the market for backup next year. And maybe Kevin O'Connell will move into that role maybe they'll make -- and maybe they'll you know bring up you know Gutierrez and they'll draft a quarterback an extra maybe now. You know but that's next year. What I'm saying is that you know you've you've got. A perfect scenario here what could you give Jeff Garcia for a 23 of four. Patriots. Make it -- stockpiling picks in those rounds for things -- like this. Now I realize that you know the common. Argument against them elected is well he wouldn't have enough time to come in and in learn the playbook. And he wouldn't how effective could EP. You know when guys like Cassel and in in O'Connell and in in its -- is no the playbook and yet we get out of them what we get out while okay that probably has some validity to. You know I heard somebody and the on the the radio locally here earlier today that the well look at Brett Favre and what he's doing with the Jets. And you know you we are you know he's basically six weeks and the process as the Jets quarterback and he still has -- 100% of the play book that's fine. -- I got to place for -- and Randy Moss deep and Wes Welker short. Do you go out and denial. -- and the ball off to the running back there's another all here's another scramble. Because he can do it now I think Matt Cassell probably has an ability to that too but does this is what Jeff Garcia has made his name. And his reputation. He's a mobile quarterback that can make things. He's a veteran. He has the ability to take a team on his shoulders and move him down the field I think you would command instant respect in the -- I think you would if your if you if you think. If you think that Randy Moss is frustrated and -- like it seemed like everybody else in the football world right now and -- that he's. On the verge of happening or going back to -- old -- This I believe. Was something to this effect would -- that. Because everybody understands as a short term. Project. [36:47]" I really kind of begged to differ they they went out and got a lot younger this year in fact they have or rookies in the two deep this last week the two -- This first and second string. Or rookies -- And of course obviously -- starter. In Jerod Mayo linebacker. So there or rookies or younger players for brand new players that were not part of any rotation last year. Four players that -- getting significant playing time at least on the deep -- of out of global. So they may be veterans but I would just say I think that's an inaccurate. Assessment of the Patriot -- and I heard Mike Ditka of all people say that on the radio this morning audience -- well -- get -- look at the raw power. Look at the players look at the film you can say well they're not covered sideline to highlighting their habit of low but don't you lose the rays. -- older. Because they're just not it's not like. Everybody has the experience of Tedy Bruschi Tedy Bruschi okay I will give you he and Rodney Harrison. Arm on the Eaton. Out out of the fifty baby let's put it that way. Both of those guys and those guys would admit it but they still good enough gas left in the tank to be effective. Now if you had a team those guys okay you could say old. But you know Mike Vrabel might be pushing it as well but he's till what 3132. Years old. He had 33 I've done at the look at it -- I don't have a rent him from from. And he's talked about this being his last year anyway to don't want a particular so whatever number to. So maybe two guys maybe three guys but they've more than offset that by having rookies. Four of them as I hit in the two deep rotation. The team looked horrible it wasn't Matt Cassel aren't on. He was only part of the problem. But he was not the biggest problem. The deep sense of play and these guys -- effort was the biggest problem on Sunday. The inability to stop as I mentioned in my original nit pick today. The -- his inability to stop the creative -- Of Miami's offense was a huge problem the old single wing to right after the running back. Good topic what did never and it."
[39:21]" That was the problem. Josh from York Maine. -- I think that was all a fairly representative a lot of the feelings at least. Within the first one for our -- the game is as as seems like everyone so down on -- game even a loss wasn't really his fault. Yet he could've played better but the defense lost the game thank you Josh anyway everyone seems to forget what when Brady stepped in hoosiers -- managed games to. It might interest -- be able to know that both Brady cast my second career starts against the Dolphins Brady was twelve point four. 86 yards note touched have no picks. A QB rating of 58 point -- thirtieth in a loss. Cap that was 193141311. TD one pick and QB rating of 68 point one in at 3813. Loss. I'm not trying to say castles going to be better than ready but I think it's a little premature to start panic also Brady in those first TD pass to the next week against the Chargers. Okay good comparison why wanted to read. I still think -- you -- shake this team up this team is built better now than the team wasn't 2001. When Tom Brady. Took over for Drew blood. Of veteran presence someone of the guys can believe and whether you believe him not. Some of the guys locker room is actually the receivers I -- Randy Moss -- believe there. That may be what's needed right now either that or you just cut -- you just YouTube that the -- comes in late. Any -- lax about it from this roster that nobody expected come."
[40:52]" And you create that edge again. I think that's what this team needs they need to get that edge back I thought they would get it for sure this past on."
[41:01]" Apparently Joey porter's mouth is not big enough to give the Patriots and match. J near Rochester New York is I don't nitpick Tuesday John and while there's a lot of nets to pick want to touch on the one positive. But I all last week it Ellis Hobbs kick returns were the only bright spot and a very bad game for our team. I think that he deserves to mention. One big net that I want to pick has nothing to do with players the coach is the fans that booed the team going and have to. Is good is this team has been for the past seven years and the quality teams dial a game they play I think that they have earned the right to have a bad game -- team. And quarterback that always seemed to find a way to cause trouble for them. I had season tickets in the late eighties early nineties and this is what we are mostly for seasons at a time. Appreciate how good you have -- people because it won't last forever -- true fan enjoys the good times but can weather the bad as well. I wore our colors is probably back then as I wear them today and I will until they cream cream make me someday might Patriots teacher. -- that's an excellent email. I thank you for sending it. Now and I share those those feelings. An excellent team. August he's got a hand in both of them the email questions. -- the -- the nit pick yes although Eaton gave -- Ellis Hobbs and be. Yeah Patriots fans -- spoiled. And not only did they put the into the game he is right they initially left the core of boos go. At halftime as the team was walking or running all of the field. Out of that was a bit strange but again not entirely out of you know old Patriots -- character. Mike and in the Cole -- I was watching the game on an even though that the even had a horrible game overall. I thought that Vrabel and Thomas had bad games in what they're just step away from getting to the quarterback and that is just enough for the quarterback to make a right. Which usually a big play ends up hurting us keep birdie on the field got a great point Mike -- all that probably half a dozen times as well on Sunday. Vrabel Thomas right there in the somehow Chad Pennington who is always. As our previous seem Taylor suggested -- Chad Pennington is always had good games against the Patriots he's always managed to make the Patriots squirm. When he was the quarterback of the Jets. And I think he did -- note in job on Sunday. And nothing to lose their game plan was perfect. He has that -- up in the pocket and scramble he got out of you know one course by the way I think that -- speaking of getting out of that college's Matt Cassel was butchered but you know. You know could've changed the complexion of the game Wellemeyer -- Evan would give the Patriots have another lead. But frankly I'm not sure what to -- the end result. Don't on Michaels says he can't believe it to vote Troy Brown. Lower than that Fred Kirsch doesn't think Troy Brown's block for the Patriot all thing. He's deserving as anyone currently in the past Hall of Fame Kevin Faulk -- getting getting into because I think he gives him I don't know about Kevin's fault but I would think that Troy Brown his walk. I don't know what Fred thinks otherwise but I think he's -- What that I came here we are clear that up credits now and it is an agreement now okay. Yeah because we last week when a candidate. To think we gotta convince the tree branch. Bonk. Next email this comes from Tony in Greenwich Connecticut Colombo and it goes for it. I'm -- distressed pats fan after last week swing and the Jets added visions that maybe that he's been as bad as I thought the previous week -- this. A couple of things that stand out like a sore thumb about the club. While on the other line is marginal at best Tom Brady -- his impeccable pocket presence in quick decision making made his -- look better than it was. Tom Brady's -- three of them went to the probable. How many times we have nick -- run around or run through for a -- it happens every game. Logan Mankins having Justin tuck flashbacks because I've beaten badly in every game Mankins did get pounded a couple of times in fact on Sunday. -- the first two -- that I all -- go down on Mankins was the player that got beat on the offensive line. He says the pats have to reevaluate this line and answers -- where the talent and athletics is not that good bottom line tell you what I think actually meet Stephen Neal. -- even Stephen Neal was a relative football in the fight I think -- as -- as a wrestler is what endeared the Patriots to him. And I think they miss that that toughness and that athleticism on the offensive line I would tend to agree with -- assessment. He also says Tony says it timed it Tedy Bruschi has been a great warrior playmaker but he can't cover me. And on and on him as the last wanted offense to Ronnie Brown's last touchdown run Bruschi was there to make tackles for marginal gain went to cut Browns led government -- brown ran right through his block. He bounced off him like Randall. Dolphins spread the -- out expose their lack of speed and athletic and that deficiency starts with 54 I -- play guy and he's bigger and faster you have nothing to lose. I'm back to being very concerned about what this team can do this year if the -- does have a big year it's going to be a long year. -- As he's not happy the way cats two in the pocket waiting to be act reminded me of a former Patriots quarterback that. Com Paul Perillo particularly on Drew Bledsoe you're horrible. Okay fair enough. Jolt well that was certainly an interesting game. Would you -- Looked like lots of people were having fun playing and fortunately none of them wearing Patriots uniforms. He's as. We think -- abysmal but there is hope the world could end tomorrow we would have to watch him Ronnie Brown highlights what aptly put it and -- knees. Words we were surprised or maybe more weren't we weren't prepared for that surprised not prepared. How many times do you hear those words come for the miles of Belichick players once twice I can understand -- times. And the trick formations didn't bother me is what's the gaping holes in the deep in the which Ronnie Brown ran untouched. But what does bother me is that in the past the pats always found ways to beat the teams they were supposed to beat. That's a very good point Jules. And that's the one thing they really just did not do in the past even with sub par games. This team always found a way to beat the teams they were supposed to beat and they obviously could not. -- this past Sunday. Interest."
[47:45]" Can. As for fans -- out fans are allowed to do what they want but it's my feeling that a truth and -- encourage their team rather than turn against them. Signs of dismay Shuler blowing the team is just a giant bleep you. Like the team needed any help knowing that they were doing a terrible job. The odds depends on what your feeling is about booing in particular. I personally have Leah have a thing against going collegiate I don't think college athletes in any form or fashion should be booed because frankly -- just it's number one. In other anywhere from eighteen to 2122 years old. They're not paid although some would argue that the getting a you know free ride through college out of it. Lot of them don't get it completely free ride. Even although they're not paid a salary to do. They're not there for enjoyment or for amusement a much as we -- there to support our alma mater -- school that we support. Professional players -- different. They're paid to do. Anyway that's just this is my own personal point. -- and as in -- had a game with separate track team that never loses a team that never wins just before bye week. The Dolphins are definitely improved over last year many of their losses last season by very small margins the pats are missing Brady. And searching for an identity for this season. By the way where the hell -- running game. That's another good -- by the -- eye on nothing anymore very disappointed in any more his performance on Sunday. LaMont Jordan probably was not supposed to play but he avoided being the last minute scratch got into the game and I don't know what really able Laurence Maroney but I continue to maintain he's just not tough enough. He was obviously radio. He did not suit up. It was scratch. With a shoulder injury and I'm just I'm I'm not commit Laurence Maroney -- even be here for the long haul much lesbian every down back for the Patriots. -- says to Buffalo win the division this year I still don't think so they the pats pull it together as single games that back but it is worth the conversation. I won't. You know kind of like what Vick -- Richie medical -- last week he's the Patriots have shown you don't want the bill got to show me today. The bills -- three and out okay right now the first three weeks they have the lead in the division that's fine. Still thirteen weeks to play last I checked the schedule. Bill still have to come here and yet they have to handle the Patriots to there. If they can watch the Patriots at least one if not twice. Then they'll have me convinced that there are legitimate contender but I don't think. I don't think until that happens. Mum -- from Texas. I have two questions is divisional winner deterrent but overall record or record within the division on number one it's overall record but if there's a tie. In overall record in the division record -- the tiebreaker. That makes engine. -- and has Brandon Meriweather done anything so -- to show he can be a solid player in the league. Please give me a reason other than he plays a lot of -- because that can be a reflection on his draft position and lack of alternatives on the team. He's a bad -- covered -- average at best I can even point one strength in his game. I don't I had I have to say I'm not going to skirt the issue but. I have to say it incomplete still because I'd like to him in there is an every down potential back if he doesn't play that role. You know he's a backup safety he'll get some time as a nickel back. I -- I'd beaten I don't know. I let -- as an every down kind of guy. I think he probably deserves at least that. Benefit of the double for right come out and declare him but I'm not quite ready to do that yet. Taught in nova Scotia what's the point of handing Randy Moss having Randy Moss not. Throw the long ball they did this to him at Oakland mustang ever play but if he doesn't go deep to a three times a game you're wasting his talent. While I can't disagree. As coach Belichick explained here a week ago yesterday that you know the Jets particular rolling over the -- man coverage on the line that would bring the safety over -- act once he got ten to fifteen yards downfield he was being double -- I tried to look for that a little bit on Sunday but my job is to watch the ball -- to watch the play so I didn't get a chance to look away from a as much. It looked like there was more single coverage and I think that the Dolphins were just want to kind of pinned their rears back and come after. As Joey Porter should just to come after Matt Cassel they were obviously access and doing. I there's no doubt in my mind that you've got to find a way to put a couple of deep -- and they're just to stretch a defense out and put that -- in their head. I wouldn't disagree without an all time. Oh and his that it all. John. And this email only has John like everyone I was completely blown away by the performance or lack thereof by the pats on Sunday. I am annoyed by the hatred toward castle like the entire loss was his fault. Sure he didn't play well either wobbly passes and pick but people like like they need someone to blame. You know that's true John in. He is scapegoat because he's the focal point he's the quarterback he's the guy that came in for the guy who's down for the season. Down for the count. But I just earlier John. I think most people as they analyze this game and even smart Patriot fans in -- not a smart. We realize that this this loss was way deeper than just Madcast. If the deacons hadn't been such as live on on Sunday. I would grant you that I -- of course in the -- had blown you know that touchdown call on on the of the act. I would argue that the Patriots could've won this game somewhere in the vicinity of about twenty to thirteen. You know would've been impressed but I think they could one. Anyway. John it's seems as if the Dolphins strategy was tried every trick gimmick and kitchen and play that they can come up with it work boy did it work. I still don't think the Dolphins will amount to much this year in and bought. The Patriots achieved great things. Any given on -- But it's true. How else would you explain this loss how else would you explain the up at this weekend or any upset -- that -- Here's what bothered me the most. When we came out in the second half we should have been completely prepared for them we weren't. The Dolphins changed nothing they kept doing the same play and it kept working that just on acceptable. And John you bring up another interesting point because. One of the other things at this Patriot team has never been accused of not being -- ill prepared. That they make adjustments perhaps as well as any team in pro football especially. On the fly in game adjustment. I didn't do that on undated. I thought for sure that they would make the adjustments to that single wing in -- direction that formation at halftime right here what we gotta do. No we Ian lineup this -- here's what you gotta do you got -- re edited and do all that."
[55:09]" And they didn't seem to do they still seemed as confused and as long as the first time on and that yes I grew to me that's the that's one of the most overriding. [1:01:37]" I thought it was going to be for now. With the bye and then you start getting into a little bit of trouble with or without operating. 21. Could be worse I mean you know they they. They didn't blow -- Kansas City and the Jets Notre Dame that you know hypothetically colossal they're 21 but sour taste to go with the bye week win. Not just losing. And not to losing any you know good playoff team. That was at home. And that team now -- that's just kind of stunning and and not the way you want to go into bye week but it does give them a chance you know they are at a different stage than where they thought they'd be entering the season. And you know get it a little bit of a chance to regroup and you know maybe maybe you really have some some early season analysis of you know we we need to change this element going forward or while this is okay we've got to upgrade there it's a good opportunity. Disorder regroup and take stock of where you are. On before you get into you know not just the grind of the season but -- thirteen straight weeks or you hope. Sixteen or seventeen straight weeks going forward now we don't really much -- report."
[1:02:41]" Well when you start now couple weeks before your first exhibition game. -- feel like this team has now been going on for about what. Before or haven't. Nine weeks themselves already pretty they have always -- gamble what restarted until until now its been nine weeks almost ten weeks ago. It's a little earlier than half with a true halfway point of the season but nevertheless. On this does come at a good time we talked about even that last week I think Brian just because. You know. The team still needed and the week I think too emotionally deal over you know the loss of Brady in week one well that's."
[1:03:14]" That's -- that you you know that a you know an injury like that happens and and let's face that was just any old injury. That was a key injury where you really have to reexamine. -- elements of your team elements of you mean you don't get a chance to do that during the season. A demons on Sunday at 4 o'clock. And -- immediately looking towards the next game. And yeah you have practiced during the week yeah -- can work on fundamental little bit on yeah you can make a practice squad transaction or you know -- you know you know cut a pilot -- even -- that kind of stuff. You don't really have an opportunity during the season with the possible exception of the bye week. That takes stock of what's going on your team on he -- things. So in that sense this is a good time for. And and you think you could point that you can't just look at the season as we're in week three I'm out of seventeen it's way too early for the -- you're right they started two months ago but if your team has aspirations to play -- January -- February. You rather that bye week you know be you know a little bit later -- lines are truly is sort of at the midway point. I feel like they've kind of lucked out last couple years at the by around 89 and I think that's the ideal spot on sort of middle of the regular season but. Also sort of middle of he would take into account pre season post he's so in this particular case though I think it's good after the -- for this particular team on certain other cases you know you might -- leader on the -- better but. More to do -- they'll do it in -- and you know they're not going to. [1:04:51]" Oh they have airlines bags. Of the telephone number. To recap nick -- Tuesday year. What you thought was the biggest nitpick from Sunday's debacle. I gave you mine and the the inability to -- recognized you know a single wing formation and Ronnie Brown and and then in not only to not recognize but then failed to adjust to it because they rented a couple of times you know that's that's the biggest nitpick I hit number one. Number two are Patriots fans -- are they truly spoiled in the truest sense of the word. Boy killed. Have we been conditioned so much that went right here that we no longer appreciate. Winning. Or effort. Or in all good ol' college try and -- Are we that spoiled that that that number two it was number three. Today in particular. I'm calling for a change of scenery a shock to the system something to give the players in that locker room and edged the look over their shoulder and think it's something else might be coming just to give them a sense of urgency. My call garden. Funny guy like -- Garcia who may very well be available in the coming you know hours if not day. -- if Tampa bay let him go they cut him -- and the Patriots get him or maybe they do that by cutting somebody completely. Completely unexpected yeah what what do you think about those --"
[1:06:27]" Well let's go let's go one by one okay I'll start with number one okay where you you know yet what what was -- as charged that as far as you know. During those sixty minutes on Sunday. On there's no question that the most clearing. Dot element of that game was the Patriots inability to doctor recognized to adjust to -- direct snap to Ronnie Brown situation any. To do that six times. And really five of the six were successful four of the six with a 34 the sixth where the ultimate success that you could possibly capital play. Touchdowns and knows what -- 32. Runs in the touch that whatever wondering if there was really only one play. Of -- stick that -- we got a two yard game excellent that were Hewitt. Did not -- we just that is really -- and that's that that was so query because I'm. You don't expect this this coaching staff and and his team a veteran defenders on. Who you know. Legendary for their halftime adjustments for -- sideline adjustments in between years that was done to me and that was the most clear however. I don't think it's as big a problem. Going forward. As the fact that so many players ala great camera real. David -- Anthony Fasano. World wide open. Up the gut of the Patriots defense for Chad Pennington to throw fifteen yard passes that became 35 yard plays that it was more glaring because. -- on the Patriots are going to now make sure that they shore up this defense of the single wing here whatever why you know direct snap in practice. And -- the Dolphins might not want to run it six times when they meet again November because but yeah the Patriots brought to be prepared for I think go forward more glaring problem. Is the fact that the over the middle. Up the gut of this defense was way too inviting. For an opposing quarterback and that's the problem it's one thing if your game -- is -- fight this team up the middle catches a pass -- run twenty more yards. This happened over and over and over again. Chad Pennington you know arm strength is not his his forte. So to give him those ten to fifteen yard yard plays. And that allowed the receiver to run free down the middle for twenty yards to me that's a more glaring problem that they need to fix and at all -- half of the horses to fix it. On the back to me is that they brought. No doubt no doubt about it but it that the direct snap to running brown was a problem but I just think that on that was almost won a sort of a one time deal on. A game plan sort of thing that the Patriots were not able to adjust to and failed miserably on like. More consistent problem couldn't -- on it up the middle the."
[1:09:09]" Let let me Regis on the that I've been able to dig up from football outsiders -- a lot of dot com the -- I don't know. Lot of our listeners probably consider one other favorable light week. Share information in good places to go get good information from time to time your. I get the affable outsiders and they said of the clever formations we're not the only way Miami moved the ball. Dolphins also ran the ball well and traditional formations Ricky Williams it was all but useless the first two games they've played 98 yards sixty carries. All the don't miserable to dominate the interior line. Vince Wilfork complete non factor and detailing controlled the point of attack that the Dolphins center. On the second your players definitely an intriguing talent for a team that is searching for difference makers. Will -- struggles were symptomatic of a team wide and ability to attack the line of scrimmage the Dolphins mis direction plays left fenders on their heels. Patriots older bigger linebackers were unable to get going once they paused and brown and Williams easily slid through the resulting holes. The struggle at the point of attack we're not news for the Patriots the ball out -- measures the six as of offensive and defensive lines with a right adjusted line yards -- In through week nine of the 7 season the Patriots defense line ranked thirteenth in the league. Over the last eight weeks. It's ranked 27. If the running game -- the only problem the Pedro could toy with using safeties in run support. But the Aggies at the Patriots were equally and done by the Dolphins passing offense as you just pointed out. Until browns' passing touchdown that put the Dolphins a 286 and effectively ended the game the Dolphins passing on 15% of their place Chad Pennington. Efficiently diced up the Patriots own coverage. Patriots often plays on and try to guys there teams the departure cornerback Asante Samuel leaves them in in the secondary and even less likely to play. Man to man. So his lack of arm strength paintings like monster makes man covered the -- option. But the Patriots were stuck in zone. So Pennington responded by dominating the middle of the he completed sixteen of his final seventeen past is and was never act heat as much as Ronnie Brown controlled."
[1:11:26]" The game yet that you wasn't sacked he was barely pressured I mean there -- couple couple plays late in the game where they still -- some pressure not sacked. Not pressured and just had way too much been inviting."
[1:11:38]" Areas base over the middle linebackers. Safeties I think it was a it was a lot of trouble for those guys I'm not recognizing. You know. It isn't the most mobile guy he has -- that's our strength that you would think that it last year when he was with the Jets. The team here the play that he got knocked out on what is. Richard Seymour rush up the middle and against the throwing an interception I think it was Eugene Wilson picked it off in and out. There was nothing coming close to that you get some pressure on Chad Pennington I think you can. Force him you know it's accurately sportsmen to in my. An errant approach he would 8585%. Of his passes that means that there was accommodation of no pressure. And too much you know too much space for the work with though right that's drop that was. -- Aren't so there's our biggest nitpick and do offensively I think to be hands down was Madcast -- take the brunt of a lot of complaints in the immediate aftermath of the game. It -- man -- he wasn't the play wasn't great but he was the biggest problem was the problem he wasn't the solution. And -- they were going to win a game against anyone on this day because the offense definitely didn't have a lot of flow. On but this was that this was the B this is that this was this is all -- more on the -- is definitely on nine and and -- you know hey this was today were. On Ellis Hobbs and he record for kickoff return yards. They have terrible field position right at the other -- eighty something yards score was there one touchdowns that goes to show you it's not like the offense even in their drive that scored. The offense didn't really move the bottom -- one touchdown was when it got the ball on the twenty yard line and round there on -- and the two field goals work. They stalled in the red zone so the offense didn't do any special in this game on but you know if you if you score thirteen points. You should be in the game -- You know if you scored thirteen points offensively you should still be in the game you're -- I mean giving up the 38 that's it it was this was on -- them. Yeah well telling us Ellis Hobbs believes that it is is definitely the fans -- saw that -- has been in the Boston papers it was in The Herald today right and you know complaining about the fans booing that he thinks the fans boiled. You know he brings up an interesting point because I -- think he's right well I I I think he's right I think this standard. This hitters around here on have -- been raised over the last over the last decade understand. You know you're at Gillette Stadium but in the other venues around Boston Fenway Park in an and the garden as well on this theaters have been raised in overall. That's a good thing. You want. And you know the player there's some accountability on the players to want to perform at ice level. I'm not a position here. By any means to say that there was any effort issue overall on the team I don't I don't think he was -- it was an effort issue and I don't think the fans are booing the pins are born performance. I don't know their blowing effort. I don't know if they're born poor effort their poor performance on was it disgusting. That the players that that that seems like between the fourth quarter and Watson said. Are they spoiled as Ellis Hobbs said. I don't think if you want to those. I'm I think the fans have every right to express themselves and if that means that I'm expressing yourself in the -- Boozer expressing yourself in the form of I'm disgusted I'm walking out here you know one full quarter -- like. Not the way I would operate. I'm but I think they have -- way I'm too cheap to Edwards right and -- outright they'll have a beard still hot dog before and cannot you know at -- but that's split brick but you know you're you're kind of joking but -- eight home games a year. If you're you know -- some people come to every game to become an every game for years they are also some people who maybe there if they're lucky to get the one game a year maybe it was there one game. I every you know once a decade they find themselves here and it's a beautiful day in anything beginning at worst it joy yeah a good competitive football team even if the Patriots don't win and so they're -- frustration -- and you know they're losing by thirty or close to it in the fourth quarter you know the game's over you know they're they're looking terrible and you're gonna -- you're -- it shows we discussed at all that you might leave. I'm not in favor of hey let's give a round of applause to these professional athlete. Regardless of their performance because you know it -- point five I'm not going to cheer them if they're doing portly but. Not my thing to walk out you know I'd probably pick out watch the whole game party just joined today but. You know I don't I don't have a problem with with expressing waited felt about the game. But they've got to keep in mind this. Until proven otherwise this was one bad day at the office in the midst of what did a pretty good area absolutely and you know it's like over the game against the Chargers three years ago when 2005 the Patriots are coming off a Super Bowl win. On and they had you know we started the season -- I -- once you were to went to a -- to want to time. They're hosting the Chargers early in the season -- big game against another good team and you know this is a Patriots team coming off the Super Bowl like I said -- Pete and battered up and down with the eleventh catch and connect council's first game actually the first gain ever appeared and he threw an interception return for a touchdown. And it lost something like 4417. On -- like -- I think there were some boos that day. And that's fine. Arm but you've got to understand that unless -- until it becomes a pattern. Where there you know losing by point five points doing fewer teams every week. -- it might you might just at the -- edited one bad today and I give them a chance to you know recover it on their home field."
[1:17:05]" I'm boy number three today we want your your thought your. Comment on had to do with how do you fix the problem that's been a question that few of you have certainly asked for today and I know that's been up. Topic of conversation to -- W and Patriots Monday yesterday and you know how how do you go about fixing this problem if there is a problem. And the thing that I that you need to do -- you need to give this team back some kind of an emotional edge something to give them. This team note we know that the team operates well when it has on the duplicate -- Whether it's negativity or lighter this that and so my point is shake things up. Put guys on the edge of their seat so to speak get a look at over the shoulder is that you know who's playing behind him kind of things do -- shaking up the roster. And somebody that you don't necessarily think. You don't get for you cut somebody that. You know maybe not thinking deserves it out to this point -- an advocate of signing in picking up right now guy like Jeff Garcia. Is Matt Cassel the entire problem no and we've already discussed however. I mentioned in the opening hour here that win Tom Brady replaced Drew Bledsoe to Basel he didn't have a team built to win now all around him. Matt -- team built to win well allegedly around him there four of veteran presence might be better equipped. To do what needs to be done and to that point football outsiders again they're they're they've got my back today and I've got there one way or the other right. The bigger story in New England with a -- fans might not be ready to carry the Brady was off in the playoffs. To -- six straight playoff berth the Patriots need Cassel to develop to the point at which he can be relied on. To do more than just not make mistakes. And didn't do that and that's exactly the baltics is going to have to be more. Brady like and if cat can't deliver that may be a veteran Gallagher secret while I."
[1:19:04]" Don't feel like Bill Belichick is going to be afraid. -- make the move that he thinks is going to be catalyst for the team there's no question if if he feels like they're Super Bowl aspirations and I know he does. And he feels like Matt Cassel is not going to be the guy get that done he won't be afraid to make that change I think it's going to take more than just this past game. For that to happen in here's what I think about veteran quarterbacks were out there right now. Why wouldn't they bring in a veteran quarterback. That they have some. Reasonably could could do well back in Marjorie. If they didn't think -- I don't think bringing in a veteran quarterback right now. Is going to solve the problem is here's the here's the here's what I think about it. There's a reason why veteran quarterback -- veteran quarterback why -- this Jeff Garcia or -- pure -- today is available right now. There's there's a reason it doesn't mean their -- quarterback just means there's a reason their appeal they're not one of the top 32 they don't have a job right now. And I think that they the Patriots feel that bringing a guy like that in. Where he's going to have to on the fly or in the playbook. Lauren his teammates. Gain the confidence of his teenage."
[1:20:17]" I'm not -- that you know I don't know I don't buy that I am and I've heard. You know the -- guys you know guys that -- work with the guys and Peter -- it will you know hey look at -- parties at about six weeks with the Jets and he doesn't know half the -- and I'm not mine and here's why I am not blind. I do believe that you could do anything personable veteran quarterback has been around enough time. He knows it just the terminology. Changes mostly between these that the actual execution of the plays. Largely the same I mean there's only so many times you can run a fifteen yard down and out or you know twelve yards land or whatever it -- end -- think is the -- with the terminology may be different. The whole point here though is that you're the veteran quarterback who's been around the league who played for several offensive -- and -- head coaches you're -- a lot of technology you can -- not a lot of terminology rather and that particular and number -- if you know that this is your last -- your last chance to play. And play well play at a high level maybe even get a ring. You'll do whatever came in number three. The team will not give you anything that you cannot handle they're not going to be so stubborn as to like or the play book it's up -- No they don't operate like that the team needs to win is Arnold about principle here. It's about winning so if they have to quote unquote dumbed down or not utilized 100 per cent of the plate -- the playbook. What somebody to catch -- quicker that's exactly what they do any of you have the talent. On the football field that you purport that you already do guys like -- you can go and get it can make place why the -- you have to noble playbook."
[1:21:54]" I've well I've been an advocate of bringing in veteran quarterback I've I've tried to figure out why in these last few years last two -- seasons with the as well rounded team that they have. I felt they are back up quarterback -- competent experienced backup quarterback away. From being the perfect well rounded team what is Tom Brady goes down you bring in an inexperienced guy where's Matt Cassel went up he'll get the job done. But at this point. At your approach our house is network. I don't know that --"
[1:22:23]" I mean he he doesn't look great to me he looks -- you look I'm sorry I mean idea D your last year they're great. Other Green -- it was a pretty good team without him last year Portland one inning and in -- notwithstanding. I don't think the Packers ran into a pretty good cowboy team but Aaron Rodgers is not that bad either -- but it but right now with brick and you -- bring -- Brett -- six weeks ago right I don't think at right -- I don't think so -- out I don't think they're any better with Brett -- because the Jets as a team or not he's gone the they're not as good as the Packers were last year and the Jets as a -- are not as good as the Patriots are this year. But if you bring a quarterback like Favre if you put our. Behind the Patriots line right now pitchers are right back I think within a hair being where they were a year ago potential to be there."
[1:23:11]" sure the Favre to -- upgrade is far. Far greater probably -- to Pennington operate and you wonder if not if park didn't get traded to the Jets and was still with the Packers all the way through if Brett Favre would have been -- guided. They'd -- Patriots would be it. I think the Vinny Testaverde. Is more likely to be here that a Jeff Garcia. I really do."
[1:23:31]" Can -- I walk. He might be although he might not get this -- dictators don't think Jeff Garcia might have a quicker team than Vinny Testaverde right now but -- also played a that you need the ability to have to move out of the pocket. -- it from Cassell he's been pummeled. Elements of life has not been good thus far this year well you go to move out of pocket sure you want to be better that's like Daunte Culpepper would not be the end you know I don't whatever. You know Randy Moss -- they don't want -- buddy there Culpepper would be like you know shooting fish in a barrel okay well he's he's gone he has nothing left in the way why do you."
[1:24:05]" Thank you never couple weeks ago but of course -- rafter after -- went down when the whole thing with -- Chris stands possibly coming in here. On for work out and and while today today confident work out they show up and turned out maybe they showed up maybe they stop by -- Bill Belichick you know -- Call them up and say hey come on and but didn't commit to work out and I feel like. -- that would have been the time to bring someone someone who's available in by now if they have I think the goal with music. Should they should they bring someone in. I don't see why I don't I don't see we are hurt to bring in the best available quarterback to keep -- competition whether it's because they don't want Cassell and over shoulder. Or they truly do -- state that women are going to win or lose with them at this point. If they haven't done anything yet I don't think they're going to do it and I think if they do you name it I think if they do. If Vinny Testaverde or bust they truly do because he's the guy who's been around the last couple or at least what here a little -- know five or six or seven training camp. -- as everybody what -- I -- be completely over rating the idea of don't the playbook knowing more terminology. But there's something about. The only guys know the coaches immediately jumping in week four of the NFL season showing up on Tuesday being in the meeting rooms on Wednesday. Knowing who you're dealing with. Knowing Josh mcdaniels knowing all the you know -- Dante Scarnecchia talking about you know protection. Knowing you know Jabar Gaffney and Heath Evans in eighty radio muscled its -- I think -- guy who's been here. Who knows these people on the system a little bit. Or no one they stick with -- castle Kevin O'Connell knack of the year well."
[1:25:43]" He tied it at the start of last week that I don't think so yeah put the the difference -- that Flutie is Gil did you know there will be pro active and Doug Flutie -- Kobe given my retirement per. Download the podcast now back at -- Once -- with a little has changed Corbett. Marc Bulger is out as the Rams quarterback or Rams being future patron. Yeah they're they're Patriots second bye week is over. I don't yet adult like that in thinking like -- each -- eloquent and a but not -- I don't -- that the -- from Bulger is out in 38 year old backup Trent Green in. The -- highest paid player."
[1:26:27]" The quarterback Marc Bulger benched announced vice coach Scott Linehan. In -- released earlier today. Signaled just how desperate times have become for the a sagging franchise land eleven and twenty fours that coach is there and oh and three this year. Trent Green in it Marc Bulger out in St. Louis yeah I think lap and time for the Buffalo Bills by the way this week."
[1:26:49]" As. I think last year yet there was a record in the league for a number of starting quarterback over the course of the season. It was sixty something I believe I we're entering week four and I believe if you take the 32 starters from opening day I think this might -- BE. Something like eat. New starters -- an article about forty yeah and you know a combination of injuries and and benching and guys. You know I would not be surprised there's a few more com down -- but. On yeah you know in the Patriots fan who you know is -- you know it is eager to boo. Or leave it all that and by all means do that if you feel the form warrants it. Think about your football fan a professional football team in the state of misery. A combined -- sixth in ST Louis how about the state of Ohio a combined -- six Cincinnati Cleveland. On I think you do yeah I think you might feel little better about yourself right now I'd knowing your -- retain -- round here than in of one of those other teams that either. Highly disappointing or highly NF. Or of course in some cases both on the -- you know this team is equipped. You may be turn things around on a race here in Foxborough and get back on track after the -- I think a few of those other team if your fans there of those teams -- thinking. What was the first projected pick in your own draft whose numbers that at least we're not quite thinking about that all of you must think about now I think about that quite yet."
[1:28:19]" So is there is there any. Is there a deadline -- were either the trade or were cut down coming up fairly quickly for trade yet -- that's usually around seven -- we gave us what I don't usually get -- in October -- artillery and -- I don't know exactly which one it is but that's it now if something happened it would it would have to happen I would think with the the next couple weeks. And let you know someone like Tampa bay decides to -- and -- you know -- and cut him loose now."
[1:28:46]" Right there's no deadline forum there's no deadline for for -- guys and picking up guys off off the off waivers or off off right so Gillick if Tampa bay ends up on you know cutting Jeff Garcia on November 1. And Patriots are right you can pick them up and you don't hate. We guys. Added to the roster none -- early he would trade and the roster and October November. Probably would have easily without the season left who make an impact. And a couple guys who come to mind we're still around Heath Evans Jabar Gaffney. These are guys who were signed as -- could be and it is Gillick for every Jabar Gaffney there are you know seven to ten. I can't think of the name up stop my head but seven to ten guys if they are away for a little more sign. In on October 15 and are cut on October 20. You know he may have been around long and -- you don't think it's you know it's not often that you can get a guy like Jabar Gaffney. Would you sign in October 2006. If he's still your third receiver in October 2008 or Heath Evans -- a valuable component to the offense and special teams who signs in. November of 5 I believe -- around on but it's possible I at quarterback. It's a tougher position to -- to do is jump in and and -- in that quarterback at that at that position than some others but -- yet there's a trade deadline coming up on outright -- ejected but usually it's around right just after we."
[1:30:08]" Yeah plus -- that a point toward that in the next couple weeks anyway I'd back to the emails web radio at Patriots dot com if you have your thoughts -- On the things that we've been talking about a particular -- go ahead and fire at all now -- we're you know worked for last 45 minutes earlier in the program. For today our friend Howard and orange Connecticut as them I cannot find the words to begin to describe -- what I witnessed this past Sunday all the momentum gained from winning a divisional road -- the week before the Jets was completely blown away. -- the heading areas for improvement he says. And I'm not underestimate these it. When did -- either the major points on the -- the kicking position I think it is guys that are accepting of the kick return game and feel. Well bottom line it's one game they have a bye week to clean things up and improve in the fiasco that was on the luckily they get a lowly 49ers team however that was what they were able for the fins game two they best not take them lightly lightly and I would argue that the not only."
[1:31:08]" They've they're two and won their to a one they've got some talent -- I believe it JT O'Sullivan once occupied a practice squad sloppy on alert and how I won like why. It's ridiculous nobody in all honesty. You know that the 49ers I could they have -- the bills on Trent Edwards you know yeah well -- it was a fairly high -- mean he was. You know -- but I don't think it was expected of him though it does JP Losman was a guy that's right. You know Trent Edwards last year -- actually the first game of the season -- sorry. The first. Or second week to week -- whatever what last year when a lot hurt right and and you know Edwards admitted. Immediately there was a QB controversy there clearly Edwards is the future now for them. On but he'll with with with Francisco. They've been a surprise and -- got in -- they've got to count on offense on you know they've got some. And some talent defense -- and I. To what they did I think to a one or they wanted to -- who won one yet. You know it's a solid team in amateur they have this weekend coming up. I'm kind of momentum they might have coming into that game -- definitely tough game and I LI feel like every road game here for the Patriots it's going to be tough. On and I don't I think you're gonna have to real battles on their hands even against this team just goes you Oakland's obviously now the Miami of the world. On some other over the road games are going to be tough game for work going to be tough games even with operating. Diego Seattle Indianapolis."
[1:32:37]" Even the Jets last week. But this year his goatee and I wouldn't call lowly. As of right now. -- are also says all right here we go offensive line completely overwhelmed did not always give Cassel time to make -- Quarterback -- the whole field and stop locking in on a specific wide receiver he's got a lot of nitpick here -- Defensive line manhandled by the Miami -- line there too talented to let that happen. Linebackers too many missed tackles too many missed Reeves specially on the Ronnie Brown runs. DB's why they consistently play ten yards off of the opposing wide receiver they were pretty -- yes. Coaching failure to make refined judgment that would work gives the unconventional attack the Dolphins. Every team -- a bad game he says hopefully we can chalk this up as the stinker for this year and move on to get better as he's improved time will tell. The good -- there are no argument at all with anything."
[1:33:28]" You know not much -- any you know in some of those are are on you know it's. It's a coaching issue with you keep talking about why these guys points and yards off the ball. And guys you're trying to contain I don't know what it's a good question right there in. And and the real question is on -- they currently have the horses to pull off whatever changes they'd want to make. You know they're not going to increase their team speed over the next two weeks. They're not going to increase their you know -- strength over the next two week that's a with the infield do now on the you know. If Tedy Bruschi uses that well right now as a player that's not going to improve by the time they get this series has gone over that they would Rodney Harrison. So they they they've got some issues there now whether it's a big -- or you know a real jolt to the system as you said. On orchids a tweak here or there or it's you know distant understanding that. It was a bad day we got a lot of work to do we're going to do with the guys we got. -- they took a roster spot open right now is -- a Kyle Michael yesterday. Without adding to the roster so you know question is is it you know -- we're -- Jeff here comes Jeff -- that it comes just. Could it be John John Lynch. Yeah so could be Giants trying to do they Eli annual Brandon Meriweather got into the next game I don't know all the maybe -- that -- it it could be -- polite yet. On do we know -- bad Brandon ones no we don't and the the we prob wont know till next Wednesday I'm front right I hit of course but -- and that may not yet knee injury I don't know what he definitely got hurt was helped off the field looked like on its own power but. On hard to say you know if that's anything John Lynch would be the obvious you know John -- have ended they don't have a ton of depth. At that position. Rodney James Sanders and and and brain matter whether -- top three in and you think -- you're talking about you know -- and thrown and really that's it as far as as far as defensive back as far as yeah if you don't if if there is an injury situation with Brandon -- they certainly would have to Juan. Have to upgrade their at bats and mark Dillard is their only safety in the practice squad so you think they want to do not better than that so that's one -- to keep on -- as far as that roster spot there's no urgency necessarily. To get a guy in there right now because you -- next Sunday if you need to -- they -- to figure -- where they wanted -- best -- I don't know reminiscent to remember you heard it here first yeah yeah I'll say it's on points and Jeff Garcia and you know will -- will that this dispute I would yeah absolutely right."
[1:36:04]" Actually they did that John Lynch would make a lot of especially a lot of -- yeah. John and an email here and he is. Boy are we spoiled fans yes it was an awful awful loss but settled down we lost one game one. We can't blame cast over everything we didn't beat a team we should. It aggravate me to people booed. You won a little brat but this team has given you or seven years old now or in a bad spot and you don't back your team today home. I have never never. Left the game early winning or losing. People leave him with thirteen minutes left unbelievable. You want to assure thing stay home and rent Rudy. -- ending a holiday I don't know what inning. Fans no longer -- they just expect we're spoiled there's no doubt. And you know it's true and that -- and Ellis Hobbs were actually bringing it up in the media. Players have more to think about the fans cheering but they actually noticed. So close I hope all -- fans are listening get behind your team. Get going the last thing any team needs is getting booed by their own fans get behind them and shows class. I think there was some."
[1:37:12]" Pulling it out Boston College on Saturday as well maybe it's something in the air right here this weekend. BC was on when they were tied I think with Central Florida or lose in the Central Florida early on in. And -- quarterback got booed so maybe it was Tuesday on. You know a New England does situations weekend things -- bottle that are from Hedo and then Patriots you know 31 unanswered points -- was. I you know that that I just think that the -- Are higher here and and the players understand and expect that. I think the players I think the players are a little aggravated with whether either booing or beyond you know -- you know we we've talked -- and it's been a topical over the years here that you know. Dot cheering at the appropriate times -- to quiet when the Patriots -- defense. And the players there are are are aware of that are are noting that on what the solution is I don't know there's there's just -- here in the -- and the fans come to expect. Good performances like I said this isn't baseball where this game every single day through the summer you come right back data the next day I think it's sort of Sunday. Big got a month before their back -- another home game and try and you know do you expect you expect. A certain level performance and it wasn't delivered. And you know like I said earlier on on wasn't until becomes a trend here where they lose -- point five points inferior opponents on. You can chalk it up the one bad day and and and give this team the benefit of the doubt that as they have in the past. They make the adjustment. And they come back and and in her back on all cylinders the next time out. Maybe this team is different maybe this team doesn't have the same. The same kind of guys in the same horses and an and they don't the same talent. And it could spiral downward this year that that's possible on -- and that that it's going to all magically. Come back to normal life in two weeks but let's. With pivotal time before and if this is a trend where the performance is going to be sub par."
[1:39:04]" Howard right I do think the fans have become spoiled. I don't much thirteen year old spoiled as he has been only following them for five or six years Allen is only known a winning Patriots organization. I've spent the early to mid seventies when Jim -- it was the quarterback. In my world. Probably a little that I expect him to win every game they go into but. Fully understand that the opposing team gets paid to make plays to -- trying to win and may actually outplay the pats on any given Sunday. However what happened on Sunday was totally uncharacteristic. Of the quality of product that I've come to expect from the Patriots. -- that is why I am spoiled because mr. Kraft and coach Belichick have built a product that consistently highest quality. And when that product -- everything but the -- quality time for shocked. In the -- pointed."
[1:39:49]" Anything about this truly wise. One of the more stunning regular season losses that I can remember. Because think about think about everything we think of the big relegated to this'll reflect and -- the wind right out you think about some of the big losses that they. Obviously 2003. The opening game against Buffalo -- out but here here's the thing. That was -- road game. D it was against a team that at that point. Go into the season was considered a leading contender to -- and go to the comparable. Drew Bledsoe had renewed energy that was a good team they played on the road and we know some of the other circumstances or Malloy and all that. That was a major loss that was stunning in the way it happened. And think about some of the other losses that they. Pittsburgh in 2004. On and there are along win streak. That was against a good team. On the road and great they got blown out -- that Corey Dillon that day. Think about and the other losses they had that team against the Monday night game against Miami a couple of years ago that was more day. Saluki. Late season. Anything kinda happens on the road kinda I kinda lost. The bottom line is this team was. Against a -- team or so we thought going. It was at home in the Patriots were coming off of one of the more emotionally satisfying wins they maybe have ever had the regular season. You add all that together and that's what makes this loss so stunning if they're going to lose games this year and maybe they're going to get blown out again once or twice. But did that team. At home and by that margin is what's so stunning. And you know. I I I just think you can look at it is just one loss to nets and story that that is what is when they lost by wonder or by -- point five. I'm it was just one loss but I think that's what what what would enter our our thinking about theories. Is the magnitude of this loss is a regular season loss we've never seen anything like I don't think. A loss like this so we don't know how this team's going to react because even when they've lost in the past it's been. In the past it's been against a good team may be on the road hasn't been too a seemingly awful team and hold. I just kind of margins so. There's a little bit of uncertainty there because how to react we don't have really. You know backlog of games like this where they've overcome a lot like this. And come back -- don't know."
[1:42:10]" That's true. Continues but seeing as for the booing I fully understand why they did it and I probably would've done it myself because that performance was abysmal. Hopefully it will stimulate the coach and players to refocus their efforts and work harder and be sure that result -- happen again. As for what I would shake up well my thought is two -- one. Demote Dean Pees secondary coach and promote dom capers to defensive coordinator. Number two demote Cassel to back up and let the rookie and probably the future Brady replacement O'Connell take the reins and learn from real game experience. I would be a shake of a monumental."
[1:42:46]" Boards that would mean that the coach -- one is is is a creative thought one I hadn't thought of I'm at this point in. You know I don't know -- of the inner workings of -- idea how they operate down there if Dean Pees is that you as a court I do think that. Dom capers and his experience as a coordinator and head coach he's probably more involved probably I don't know for sure probably more involved. In other element of the defense in the overall team planning. Then your ordinary secondary likely you'd be stupid not to take advantage of the guy it was his expertise on her coach he's leaning on the fairly level right so you don't. I don't think you need a shake up like that because I don't know if that does much you know it's. I think they're all sort of involved in the team playing in and hey maybe in the that the defensive play calling for all we know. I'm but -- like like a lot of other odd situations here where we talk but this one game. On DP overall has been a pretty decent job as the defense according he's got a lot of credit. Four when they had a very successful defensive game plan -- not -- after this one game to sit in the defensive coordinators the problem here on topic. As far as the quarterback. Shake up I'm. You know I don't know Kevin O'Connell is the future here I happen to think that Tom -- the future here on so I don't think it's going to be a situation where hate. The seasons for the next you know three to five years certainly -- right by that point and O'Connell the free agent yeah maybe he's not -- in the -- like you just likely lose next year right we're getting where -- exactly and that's another thing. Where you know they're. Matt Cassel. It's probably not going to be here next year right now I'm Carla there's a chance and help but he's hardly regardless of how things go if this season goes down the tubes and -- Cassell doesn't do well he's a free agent and they're they're trying to forget about because you perform while. If this season is a great sense. Then -- behind it nobody else is going to take a bigger money they create a -- evident and everybody will go home happy right I'm. I don't think Kevin O'Connell is it. -- Kevin O'Connell if the Patriots are three and that in. Or three and -- much over right we're not going to see Kevin O'Connell getting starts anytime soon. He's going to get a little bit of side of of of action at the end of lopsided games like we thought the other day right op we are not going to shake up like that. -- it's one thing for in Atlanta Falcons team you have Matt Ryan into the season. As you're starting quarterback it's one thing for Baltimore Ravens that Joe Flacco a guy who you know and you'll be they decided that these guys -- you're starting quarterback at least a few weeks before he started if not earlier Kevin O'Connell up until two weeks ago we didn't snap as the third or fourth string quarterback. If we don't if if Matt Cassel is struggling with some of these guys having. At least got -- for spring. Reps in training camp during practice and he isn't getting it done. But he too early to think that Kevin O'Connell."
[1:45:40]" Jack and an email by adding we all have a tendency to glance over events that don't make or break the wind. Let's talk about the awful call on cast -- usually seemed to be -- is that -- one of the NFL one of the Patriots. He got away he ready for a touchdown that was called that in and as he was grabbed what. All of the rule is as soon as your grabbed by defensive player behind the line of scrimmage he ruled down right. Well that's the case I guess we should of won miserable because Eli looked pretty wrapped up to me but still got a pass often. Should -- have been ruled down."
[1:46:14]" I don't think it was a good call but. On bottom line is anything that's. You know anything that close. Is going to go in favor of the quarterback and it is true it is easier when you compare that to what avenue Eli and the Superbowl there's always pretty pretty similar plays that is -- regard it's not a bad point on. And you know what it it is a judgment call and I think the bottom line is on referees I think -- it yet it will exactly. This refereed -- You'll know he's going to run Halloween for the touchdown ended that the call came whenever the call came on the human and a touchdown because the play the -- the blown gave up exactly so you don't know what the quarterback was going to do that referees at the instructed to. Err on the side of caution -- the quarterback and it if the if the quarterback ruled down. -- They don't want to let you don't want to let the defenders. Let the -- the keep going -- the defenders. Really brought a quarterback on the ground in an and an. Hubbell and they're gonna they're gonna call early but it is a good point that the line and play good. Let's talk about Ricky Williams chief pit they already -- the game wrapped up so does that make it okay to -- illegal blocks below the knee. I'm -- lead and no he's an excellent -- to play the Ronnie Brown 62 yard touchdown run we're on. Mike Vrabel was chasing after Ronnie Brown and I got -- got low cut I didn't think it was you know. I didn't think it was necessarily look at it used to you know I think Ricky Ricky Williams is still trying to. Block Mike Vrabel on away from the play if there's a chance that you can get after running round. On I don't I don't think it was guys -- it was a it was a necessarily dirty play -- were fueling some of the Patriots players but otherwise but. If Ricky Williams. It was kind of apologized. Via he did but you know I think you also it you know -- the -- play -- feel that -- are. Certainly in line with an injury."
[1:48:10]" Isn't just think about the game incentive enough for the reasons most -- I am outraged at the rest can ignore it like that as far as the game well it's done but hey it was one game one and game -- John Jackson John's today John's is fans who booed embarrassing. Players that complained about the fans who -- should be embarrassed."
[1:48:31]" The player should yeah well. I I don't think there's anything good to come out of a player I don't think the players should be on. That acknowledging yeah acknowledging the museum let alone criticizing the players I criticized the fans I would I would keep my mouth shut. But I think it's a little bit of a level frustration that might be built up from even beyond Saturday are even beyond Sunday. -- just sort of came out at at this point. Ellis Hobbs and it is certainly a guy who who freely speeches opinion and that and and and obviously he has some units are frustrated. It would be my advice to vented to dot not addressed this sort of topic I don't think anything could become for a commodity from."
[1:49:08]" I'm trying to understand what the context was of the entire line of questioning anyway I don't know because I believe that the media actually ask and I don't think the players brought this up all of course I think this was a question that was motivated by the media. I'm not did not that's an in Ellis Hobbs case the end Benjamin Watson case. I believe he made a comment after he observed the fans leaving early in the fourth quarter."
[1:49:32]" He made a comment on on I believe so it was moderator yeah I don't know a lot of question was I I was yeah I was listening guys in here either one of them. I I think you're right -- at least -- Ellis -- I don't think -- I think it was he was responding to a question asked him exactly and I know the that the type of setting it was in the locker room yesterday where you know players available -- his locker and and and he doesn't you know -- an opening monologue for instance he fields questions and -- sure was a question from a member of the media. -- did you notice. The fans going did you notice the fans leaving -- what was your though you know what -- thinking at the time. And he he answered that question I guess honestly. As for Watson amateur mature if he brought an upper question did."
[1:50:11]" I'm not entirely or in under the context of the kind of hard for me to attack it a little bit but the fact is -- is that the players that complain about the fans of good -- I don't know if if embarrasses the right word but let's say they should probably. Refocus. Yeah. Now private that the that that's beat him about it while speaking of refocusing then I mean that's what this team is going to be doing I think for the remainder of this week."
[1:50:35]" Yeah this is usually you know usually that the bye week or the week leading up to the weekend off. Is that time too. Detectable little bit of fundamentals on in general and maybe some specific areas that they want to work on in general whereas next week. Is more focused towards game plan for it just so whatever your bye week falls on you that that first week it is sort of it is sort of -- game plan week where you're just you know getting back to some the basic refining. You know few areas in the next week of -- heavier into life -- but. On you know they've they've got they've got a lot of areas to work. You know Steve -- maybe take practice too often and be five. Put the rest this."
[1:51:17]" Team he's the only part of the of the entire team he can't really look. You know make a legitimate claim against right now and -- that that's the problem is there's really no -- got he's got a franchise record best percentage for successful kicks. All right now over his career yeah he's well over 90% I believe in -- beyond you know he hasn't missed any yet been tested too much from beyond 404550. Yards but. You know he's been guys. -- he's been he's he's really at first don't hold don't dispute that Adam Vinatieri. You can't and done he's done more than you can ask don't anybody try to replace according to legend right and what the fact is that you -- you have to realize that his field position kicked out last week against the Jets had a major hand in they're winning -- no question about it that's been huge and an -- that necessarily within their. You know don't. If they re focusing this week if you will than for the team in. On the program at least at the playbook the next couple of days that -- here. We're -- not only you don't look at what's happened news was the Patriots but. Also take it just a little time to look at. The rest of their -- look what's happening on down the schedule certainly look at some of the divisional teams will link if indeed coach the Raiders in December it well we don't know in October and could very will be a former Patriot assistant as the head coach of the Raiders for a you know and rob Ryan writes that the rumors are correct about that. By the time the Patriots get to them and number. I also want to take a look at the great start I think."
[1:52:45]" By the Buffalo Bills you know because you know frankly you know they've been as close games but you know they've they've found a way to get over the hump. I think that's I think that significant John in South Carolina and I don't know under the Johnson yeah I look at a record for Johnson -- Johnson Jack as Scott can't check the he he did chicken with. He checked in with a bit earlier in the -- pay. I'm her record. I live in South Carolina on I've not gone to a game in the new stadium is -- low or is as slow leaving Gillette as it is leaving the old stadium. If I don't fault the people who leave early as much."
[1:53:22]" People -- I I personally don't think a huge percentage of fans who come here leave early because of the traffic it's a good game. You're leaving early if you -- says about the I don't think you're leaving early because of the traffic that the Senate. I think it is kind of St. Pierre just cricket you get drunk. -- think it matches it."
[1:53:39]" No I I would agree I think it's Logan and now it's not that bad it. As it was with the old stadium because they've got different route to direct -- and -- moving a little bit more you're not getting in one spot as much. But you know hey if you're lucky enough -- have one of those backdoor passes that get you through you know. Foxboro. Then you're here you're lucky person indeed -- you know I'm not privy to that kind of information or -- you -- you know those opposed. To tell -- was coming up Patriots today."
[1:54:08]" Patriots today you know outfield still today rehashing some of the the nonsense that the place on Sunday Christina talk a little bit also about. The whole name of the weekend that we had here over the weekend right and you know we're we're you know we're we're still alive. Focused on on on on that game we get too -- to -- analyze dissect that game what did you do that. And we get deeper into lives differently now. Yeah pitchers -- coming up leader on just and little just a little bit on -- that come their ego and what about the credit load I don't think people are you helping people out there -- I'm Roy helping people out more than helping myself as my team's not doing too well. But no we've we've got a couple good -- so -- on the fancy -- and another -- coming up on on Thursday sending your questions is not too -- early questions -- radio -- doesn't -- and even hit a direct and web radio Patriots dot -- we had a lot of -- on the show and a batting around you know -- start now he added -- bye -- starting up this week -- that causes a lot of commotion for fantasy -- worldwide so we're here to help."
[1:55:07]" When you mentioned all the Hall of Fame festivities this week in which was asked to be part of -- Bryan Morry and of course the executive director of the hall at Patriot place in. This program inside the hall with a Andre Tippett Bryan Morry is coming up next ya I gotta tell guys I can't wait for two weeks of a Patriot."
[1:55:23]" They've written down Sunday's game. Okay. I didn't make what they've they don't -- we don't do -- just something. That's things up next Monday I didn't go to the Patriots even show up for the game. But we did Patriots today did more on. That can that we should. Not get a guy got -- all the law is an opportunity to watch -- it is. Good points and also a chance to look at how the pitcher can get better maybe maybe Patriots today. Will this film study to discover ways in -- can improve our. Pass -- along the -- dollar -- that's right he wants to see Brian -- breaking down cover two. And three thing you know -- go to the hall -- cannot check out the playbook the breakdowns in our separate how would you pick a couple things that you can use. When you're breaking down film the Patriots Antarctic. And often. Until it has the first couple days been doors have opened as good pretty -- I -- it was a a good day has been a little barbecue or that the feedback over there's been tremendous. We have an -- army is going on today. And that couple week. And -- that the feedback has been incredibly positive."
[1:56:35]" You know it's. But working into it here we -- not a Monday you know working out toward the weekend here we expect that a nice crush this weekend though. -- you've been in. I mean what do you think of the times. I don't get the different about a minute while I was in the on Saturday I. And I realized when I first got in their -- is all I need a couple of hours it's just drive and actually -- right here right now can -- get like a pass to get in the -- do -- do -- ten plus ten -- now I can't look at him I -- you want to get your -- the end he's a marketing they think they -- on the -- on the market and those were in the -- basically I want to spend some time in there when I don't win I don't want to just -- you know -- because that's what I'm I'm told. You know when you when you come and you want to visit actually years of at least an hour and a little bit more just so you can appreciate the things that there and I."
[1:57:24]" Think that way and you know if your -- yeah I guess -- there and I was -- there on the floor. -- I I approach help people asking what they think and they were gushing in the guy as. And I money than a football fan. So it's the type of place where even you don't have to be hard court going there and enjoy your -- because. You're you're seeing something that you wouldn't normally get even as a casual type. Football fan you go in there and the only thing element in the interactive's in the inside to gain. Listening to the huddle conversation things like that that you don't really have to be hardcore fan defined. To be pretty cool and I I think that's the joy of it. Like I -- in the feedback has been and I and below what would you think --"
[1:58:07]" I think what it is a spectacle like John that you can't just going there and they got in the actual -- outlook around. Would you get a -- seconds of the segment Duke and I don't we you can import you you -- and I I saw you as being apart of some beyond. Put some of the stuff together -- of the behind the scenes stuff and indeed the final product is really spectacular. And and you and you know you get. Not get Patriots -- get that you know we're -- that -- football lie areas well and it really some great in acted on it it is tactical it's so unique I mean you know you've been to a -- like a pro football Hall of Fame. Or -- nothing like put put this is interactive in aunt in all all about the Patriots and and it was a great weekend with the you know -- ducking all -- ultimate."
[1:58:50]" I gotta say that I gotta say that you know I I worked at Patriots football weekly for a half years. And just rejoined the organization December and it had a chance to work with so many different people. On a different level than what I did previously here right and I am amazed by the people in the organization and how well they. They execute I mean. Things you know it was pretty tight last week get -- building ready for Thursday. I mean we were probably in the Thursday morning putting finishing touches. Frey won thirty ripping cutting and the watch the people that have contributed to help out and I mean John Hewitt here this weekend. I don't think anyone would have possibly known. That that the hectic schedule that people operated under the pressure that people executed under. I mean I thought everything went so smoothly because so many people. And it it it's real it really is a credit. So many people in this organization. That have a period putting together these events a lot of the very new for me I'm learning on the -- I was a journalist. You know and and I'm just I'm just. Amazed by how well people in the organization do that job I shouldn't be amazed."
[2:00:00]" You know because it's obvious that they they they pulled up off all the time yeah but. You know it's not just the football team that that's committed to excellence here to the bottom line -- it is. All is not lost we used our speakers bureau. I'm is I'm is I'm glad to know that yeah. He's got a lot of well I gotta be pretty lucky I guess and otherwise. Like Iowa them very well done right well because -- with no. Yeah. I don't know it will grow right in along with -- under exhibit Bryan Morry coming about neck not. And will be -- more inside the playbook."
[2:00:35]" Patriots playbook St. -- time -- channel money on."
