And these Gatorade for the great. -- and the rest of the 2008. NFL. And some of the plug stuff in between. On Patriots playbook."
[1:05]" So were talking you don't look that's true we work every dog and a funeral business that by the way that was an outstanding thing for cute nobody in. [1:28]" We will have. As we usually do on Thursday as Russell Baxter from ESPN's medical research coordinator -- About forty minutes from now. And we do is mentioned earlier by Freddie we will have for you. The inquirer. It's news conference from earlier today the Troy Brown announced his official retirement from the NFL and in in in for those that might not a had a chance to use you won't hear any of that are in it that are don't know any of the details. It was it was. It was nice week. I don't want to be overly gushing about it but I mean they been a lot of time. Lot of attention focused on Troy as I think is deserve it you're -- to fill me in -- I was actually there were riding that was -- I was writing I missed the entire thing no kidding yeah yeah thanks a -- and well aimed at all -- deadlines about. On and so anyway we're -- it for those that might have missed it we're going to play that fortieth. In the 3 o'clock hour days he missed giving him mister Kraft Burnett and coach Belichick. That's very nice things about Troy and of course it begs the question. It was Troy Brown in your estimation one of the greatest Patriots of all time Eric I'll ask you run off the bat yes yes you -- go -- the Patriots -- I think to him don't for the whole thing you know for the Patriots are obviously but -- hum I don't EI mean. Everybody has always thought so incredibly well of Troy I don't even know. Has anybody ever anything negative about the guy during his his points. I mean not that I can -- now in my hand no the thing about the guys veteran Troy Brown and and the Patriots in general is I think when the Patriots have. Superstars. They're they're few and far between. It went down talk and super -- as far as like you know Little League wide nationwide program nationally recognized superstars league MVPs like Tom Brady -- Randy Moss types. They're few and far between -- Andre Tippett another example. Guys like that who will end up in -- the guys that. Seemed to have -- fan favorites and have a lot of longevity and his team are guys like a Troy Brown and Tedy Bruschi now a Steve Grogan. Guys who put the time in weren't necessarily the greatest guys. At the position at the time that they were playing weren't necessarily the greatest player I solid players but not that -- they'll cram right. But date but they somehow managed every once a while and that play that -- think I'll Mike god what was that. You can't get rid of the guy -- we think about this guy pearl pearl all right Robert you know because they play they they do whatever it takes some players are shooting stars as you said. And I think it's pretty easy to spot the shooting stars I think you can probably go up and down any teams roster right now on the NFL and say okay hall of Famer yes. No no no no no no no no no no no. Yes no -- and you know I mean couple for you know maybe at the very least right who has won that vicinity I don't know natural it was one of those guys. On the Patriots roster certainly when you go back when he first came here win this was a much different. And our New England -- run in England and we didn't have what we have today he was a part. Of the of the of the foundation. Of what we now know. As a world championship franchise and doing well even before that and he almost wasn't part of that foundation because he got cut. And Drew -- engine and brought to the practice squad and released -- the that's right back -- while the yeah it did -- ever -- that people people forget that played a long I think people just remember the Troy Brown who was making the fourth down catch in the meadowlands in right Giants to help them. Again in the playoffs -- these yet what was -- like 96. Yeah I went in the right ball war. You know returned that punt against Pittsburgh in the in the 2001 playoffs or more recently playing defense when asked to play -- getting an exciting it deserves what's up yeah they remember all that because it seems like he's been around forever. But it he almost wasn't around at all but when I first got here it took him awhile to catch on keeper on -- and I don't really think I'm blown smoke anybody's career much destroyed. He personifies. What the Patriots have been about. Over the last. 1415 years of his career he is brought a strong work ethic. He has brought -- understated attitude if you will he has brought about a business as usual attitude. You know to doing what he's doing he's been active in the community houk who can forget well I got -- commercial that he did for the United way I mean the fact is that he has been everything. That the Patriot and asked of their players to feet but he was that both for the Patriots. Became the Patriots that we now know he he was fortunate I think in that he came to the Patriots when when Bill Parcells took over. He and he and Bledsoe I believe were in the same draft class I think that's correct -- ninety degree -- now's the year I was Parcells rookie Murton. I think he was fortunate. Being the kind of player he is. Being on a team was coached by a Parcells and then after that Belichick and more basically the same type of mentality. Like you said that the hard working guys just to do your job you -- rolled through that do with the best you can. Because of -- us that the word. -- you know a Pete Carroll or. Even earlier than a Ramon Barea who would know any other coach. Might not have. Taken to. Or given given brown that many chances to come -- for himself because he might at a fit their particular philosophy of what a football player should be that's right I saw I think it was fortunate that he came to this team. And and was allowed to have the success he had because -- it -- been somewhere else he would -- he might notice he had a putt on after the might have been out of here I am done in and that would have been -- it's big -- your you'll be going of him in his early career just of people remember. Right he was elected in the eighth round of the 93 and if Beltran I was aqua net well and actually at twelve rounds correct we don't know it only goes seven rounds now so is an eighth round draft pick a 198. Election overall 19 victory. After Drew Bledsoe was the list at number one okay -- always have placed on injured reserve December 31 of 93 wave of in August of 94 reside in October of 94. Then resigned as -- restricted free agent in 96. Restraint resigned as an on respect for two free agent in ninety haven't. Restart it is an unrestricted free agent in 2000 re signed as an unrestricted free agent in all five. That was courses I think is best time in the period -- that contractual between 2002005. And then finally resigned big game for the final time as an unrestricted free agent in 6. You know mentioning that he was unrestricted. Doesn't necessarily mean that he didn't have offers what it meant was that he chose to a year. Yeah for the most part I'm trying to remember each time his contract came up. Are to Duke isn't in his career he -- elsewhere he said today and you'll hear. This in the news -- occasion were not aware of earlier. But he said today that he had a chance with the Jets in the season turned down. This past off the correct. -- I I think we -- heard rumblings during the offseason that he would he can either worked out he'd worked out with them he confirmed that yeah so so -- you know he was ready I felt like it was his time. Number one I think Troy also generally feels like you know. I been fifteen years with -- his organization as a player and I want to go out a Patriot and I think that means something. And I think it certainly means something to him. And hopefully that's an example for some of the guys on this team well you know it's unfortunate that it happened now and not before the whole Brett Favre. Situation unfold because I think Brett could learn something from Troy Brown -- in retiring with class with the organization that. Bottom. But it wasn't a shot was -- But you know and you know people forget about our through this is this thirteen. He was drafted by was drafted by the Falcons on the right and was traded after I think his rookie year -- Greg packer yeah that's another one of those things -- people think he's been a Packers entire not entirely entirely I mean. You gotta -- for the most part yeah but yeah. But but but the Packers with a team that made him and he made the Packers he he reinvented the Packers well it's easy to say that certainly the Patriots made for a brown but Troy Brown made the Patriots for a long time -- time he was and has been by a lot of people consider to be mr. Patriot and I that's why I think he's she'll win a slam -- The fans undoubtedly will vote him in and of course you know first ballot for absolutely it'll be any question about it he will be a little -- Here's the lowdown on Troy just to get an idea -- is come from a going to bore you with a lot of numbers -- holds the -- time. In receptions Adam record in franchise history with 557 is that the number now that you might want to hold onto because they should be coming familiar number. I think The Beatles liable for the tree snapped I don't know that it won't get now. But I think today's players staying with teams -- as long as Troy. Yeah -- the Patriots are long gone in this day and age of professional football yet so that number 557. In terms of career receptions that could stand for -- and it it lasted that Patriots record was -- Morgan's yeah correct for that that is -- and he retired I was. Might have been around 9091. Rodman yeah left and you know for the Colts actually yeah yeah yeah but his record basically good for. Fifteen sixteens and senior years on time. Long you know so yeah an eighteen year except to say that the record one ever be broken -- but. In an age where you have fewer -- guys like you said who are with a team long enough and who are healthy enough and play every year in an offense where they get the ball around them. It it's going to be going to -- it MI take longer than twenty years I would think so I would add that the record is probably good for twenty years it would take them -- toward another generational the break yeah it would take that was pretty you have to find you know high draft pick guys that you know is going to be an elite receiver in the league and then you're gonna have to. Say he's going to stick with a franchise for between twelve to fifteen years to have a shot at breaking that record that's what -- one thing I will say though that it. If he plays if he plays. 56. More years. With this team. Wes Welker might have a chance of doing that he could. If he puts up the kind of numbers that he put up last if he continues to put -- on that -- hundred -- more you know hundred and they're under by you know eight and ninety catches this season isn't you know on unheard of and I think we realize that the odds of that happening are slim just because of the injuries nowadays yeah and he would -- I mean having last year here was extraordinary. And having five or six of those which is what it would take obviously for that happened is he can't tell what he did in Miami previously it right what was the Patriots reception right but. Yeah if either have to put up five or six years like that I don't know that he's got that kind of I think he has a timeless and I think he has a chance I mean he's kind of like when Curtis Martin left. New England he would only play three years here. And everyone basically knows him as a jet for the most part and curious and Jets records and and and is high on the list of different Jets rushing in and even receiving categories Welker only played. Three seasons in Miami that's true so he can play the bulk of his career is he so chooses he renewing your new England and he'd have a shot. You know that mean he seems to be. The leading receiver almost every game this year yeah far yeah he'd never -- I mean he might he might have a shot -- him and he is that type of almost -- receiver that that Troy Brown was a possession kind of guy right he was even compare to Trevor Allen right when they traded -- last year right exactly."
[13:10]" so brown is 36 years old spent his entire fifteen year career here with the Patriots. Drafted in the eighth round 198 overall and 93 draft. At 510 and 196. Obviously receiver punt returner and I'm I'm defend -- for the team. He retires as the all time leading receiver with the number that I told you 557. Career receptions he's team's all time leading punt returner with 252. Korea returns. He's second in the team's record book with 6366. Career receiving yards. He's tied for the franchise record with three punt returns for touchdowns. Well he played in 100 in 92 total games which is fourth on the franchise's all time games played list. -- Derby -- their fifteen seasons with the team ties him -- Julius Adams. For the second longest ten year in a pads uniform behind Steve Grogan in the sixteen yeah sixteen years mr. -- one. Brown was a five time co captain for the team he did reach the Pro Bowl one year in 2001. Sometimes we forget that but it whose -- actually -- but it was in the Superbowl or your fourth overturn as a receiver believe. Com. Let the he was added to the the team that a year from mama Staley was actually went and voted voted -- that I believe he was added onto it and one. So he did reach Pro Bowl all honors one time. In 2004 obviously that's when he was first test at and -- president. Which he did as a significant I'm here in the back field. He finished second on the team with three. In fact that year which is just remarkable remarkable -- yet exactly which is oh."
[14:53]" My favorite memory for a great all fit enough that Troy Brown gave us all the big catches it W mentioned the one and 96 which on the -- people's minds and there was another one when he was not nearly out of bounds on and knocked unconscious and he came down with the ball aren't -- that was I don't think -- was river on that that was the year that Patten and sorry okay that pat that's right okay I get the small guys mixed up there. On. Try to remember that was thinking about this earlier today a couple of Olerud is optical back in my no -- of him the via the overtime game in Miami in that yeah I believe it was a one right. Where he caught that that one pass from Brady and -- and I'm sorry that wasn't always in a one though that was that was read TO three. I think him and -- 3 and rear was going through four. Both agree yeah that's Waller rusty Burton's the background out of the picture that was on the cover of the F -- in -- life. You know we're supposed to be impartial in the media that's almost harder when you see a player like that. Yeah it is. Gary's got the -- now there yeah that was October. Yeah October 212003. You know the ego so that I think yeah that one. Is one of them probably the one of the more memorable plays a member idea of Troy Brown you know that that -- that in the Vick Bledsoe and the pick of what's -- punt return against and that that the Steelers. Oh and Dan Klecko."
[16:18]" Your favorite. -- they think. Oh those are some of the things I think that you know obviously and that about a he contributed significantly in all three phase of the game there's no doubt about that. Certainly one was personal and I know -- Patriots fans feel about him ever world the most beloved players. In the history of the Patriots Rangers at least initially your game today. Email wise. If you have your favorite remembrance of Troy Brown. Whether it was on the field -- off -- fielder maybe it was you know TV commercial he did or you know if you just have a thought for a moment you'd like to share concerning Troy Brown. In his fifteen year history as a member of this organization I'd like for you to share with the today web radio at Patriots dot com web radio at. Patriots dot com telephone number five away 5437482. And -- Ro read as many of those as we can't would have got you thoughts on. Troy and his you know and nodding to officially hang it up -- but that too much this prize here. On the Wilshire Bozo with you today poll on Troy Brown is moved into the into the afterlife as far as football is -- I I I do have to admit. Then his career length. Is also one of those things and -- is extraordinary because the average life of an NFL players. What their three or three to four year -- your I was gonna say for probably on the ice yet average average rate so that means there's obviously a lot of guys that than them just. As there is you know quite a few guys that Morton has would you consider that he's been seen in in the NFL. Extraordinary."
[17:58]" No it's remarkable that he was able to stay with stay in the league that long stay with one team that long. Stay healthy for the most part that entire time. And it says a lot about him as a as a as an athlete you know conditioning wise. Talent -- just being able to stick. An organization changing of coaches changing offenses. Like he said he was multi. Talent that could play offense defense special teams and that's one of the reasons he was able to stick with the team found a way to. It to help out wherever he could. -- you don't you don't you guys that that are able to do it that much. Anymore you know and and the guys who do some of them are doing it and are staying on too long this guy could play. Pretty much up until the last day was here. You know some guys like. You know. Despite the bad example but public Vinny Testaverde who hung on. He joined the Panthers even last year. Just trying to -- trying to hold on every little bit that he could. When he might not have. You know he he might have been able to. Call it -- a little bit sooner probably should have called it quits a little bit sooner. Yeah he started for the Panthers but. You know I think if if they had their druthers he wouldn't have been started he was who was started by default because of injury other guys one not Troy Brown could legitimately -- a starter. Or you know at least a solid contributor he had hurt his -- last year last year you as as well so. Yeah it's a remarkable accomplishment that he was able to -- the play that long and contribute that long and be relevant you know not to via hang on."
[19:34]" I think when the other thing. In in into that and here Erica. -- a fan might look at -- fifteen seasons well geez no wonder he caught 500 balls the tech Roberts along but. The one thing that that tells me that at least for a while he was an elite receiver. -- within this organization -- in the NFL was that he became the first Patriot in team history to have 380. K he's. He had ninety evident 200. Wanted you know wanted another 83 in 2000 he did it in three consecutive years. And during that timeframe. Obviously he made the Pro Bowl in 2001. He was considered to be one of the best receivers in the game you know you -- and that's where -- a lot of that. You know people -- he's in league like he had fifteen years of course is going to get me catches. But he got the bulk of those that that's what that's almost half of them in 3 years. That means they're twelve other years were yet to get the other half which means in the beginning of history he wasn't in the ballpark until now -- not that much so he did all he did most of his. And -- in three in in in the and the latter part of his career good over half you know -- that would be 78 it's not like he was that Chad Johnson or any Moss was getting most of his catches from day one right. He had to establish himself. Become a an integral part of the offense and any name is mark after it right. That that's even more impressive when you look at it like that no doubt about especially at that position where younger faster guys. Bigger stronger faster guys typically get the ball thrown to them you know -- It. He scored a player. Well it was well obviously goes without thing -- the entire organization does and again coming up in about an hour -- you here. The retirement -- press conference if you will from. Earlier today here at Gillette Stadium with the mister Kraft to coach Belichick and Troy Brown speaking to a members of the Patriots media in attendance and it will achieve that everything results -- it on the news -- you read in the newspapers. It sort of made the wires and espn.com that little piece on an already. What you get the the fool all of -- get the full Monty little bit later on but now here on -- playbook. In the meantime of course though we do realize that this is bye week for the past there one and only this year during the regular season anyway with a two and one mark. I mentioned this yesterday but two and one is exactly what this team would be. Going into the bye week you'd hoped for better. Certainly the loss did not -- I thought you might -- I thought it might you know if he came at all but it would come with the Jets and so. I have a tendency to sort of under -- a little bit so that's why. You know you hope for better but as they are in a worst case scenario two and one -- you can move on from there and that's what this team is 21. I don't and listen to the players in the locker room yesterday as we have them here on the on the show and and you've been in and you know you heard from these guys as well. They didn't sound like they're really ready to put this in the remember well -- a good thing obviously yet as good thing because they didn't come."
[22:34]" Wave right afterwards they looked Shell shocked in the locker room afterwards. And that was the first time in a long time. That I'd seen them like that. The Super Bowl notwithstanding I mean I think everybody was shocked by the Super Bowl but the last time we saw them. Even in games last year where it was close and they still want to. They always had that feeling that sort of confident air afterwards like. That they always felt that was in control that even even the teams the game trouble at the Baltimore the Phillies. Even that first Giants game you know late in December. Was it was really close and they almost lost that game but they didn't they didn't have that look on their -- that deer in the headlights look they had that after the Miami game this year. And that was the first -- CNN along time and it's it's it's good that -- Shaken off the Ross then and gotten sleep on their eyes and ready to get back at because. They certainly they certainly needed a day or two addicted to get over that game it was. One of the worst performances I've seen them in in the at least -- here."
[23:40]" They're world wild. There was. View other. Games opportunities. I can't remember and -- a lot of them you know covering the team for twenty years I have. I can't remember too many -- that or is completely."
[24:03]" Teams come -- an adjective. Outside yeah a lot -- abysmal whatever I mean. I can't come -- with too many games that were as bad that I can remember some bad games really bad games but they were on team they were during seasons when the team wasn't very good. We expected this team to be at least."
[24:20]" At the very least the playoff contending team and they still are obviously. But to see a team of that caliber perform that -- what was really shocking and I think that's what. That's why the players themselves are -- shock because I don't think they were expect NL that it afterwards you know the game like this coming. You know if you era. If you're at the Ravens horror. That the Lions. You know you might steal loss like this coming because you're not that good team but this team. It was it took everyone by surprise I I -- Billick bill was a little bit taken aback. Even the next day in his press conference -- he still looked a little Shell shocked by and was very quick to take the planet you know coaching was a big part of the reason why and that he would do a better job and his staff do a better job and but like you said they had a couple of days now they get they had a Tuesday off their back at this week they have this weekend off. Going on the road they're getting away from New England for two weeks -- right yeah after two games as well I think that might help elevate the change of scenery might might help to the do you think at least initially for the question probably going to be. More appropriate two weeks from now. But how do you think the -- back and forth between the coach because they're going to have to go back to back like them was -- do you think that that'll be handled. I mean as far as not only what the what the initial plans might be but how the players might take that. You know what I think that. Dave. The core this team has has had that experience with the Super -- Yugo -- week. You're practicing and a new place your. You know your way from home. I don't think the staying away for a week is going to bother him I think it's going to help actually. Because when when you think about taking that west coast trip. And then you have. The the three hour time difference it's a later game. -- coming back in the middle of the night almost first thing in the morning the next day basically year. You have that much less time to prepare if you come back here to the east coast. You get more time out there because your your playing around that time dirty in that. Sleep schedule already you don't have to make any adjustments. You have that much more time to prepare for your next opponent I think it. I think it advantageous that they are doing it that way and I think that the players are going to take it that might help the focus all over me I think so it's yeah it's almost more of we're not home we really -- a business trip. Yeah and it specialist not -- than you do during the regular season partly. Hardly ever. I think I think I think it will be. A benefit for how about the opportunity to prepare and play for a team. They use the open once every four years I was pushing meet him in the horrible of team liked him Francisco in the unit well I think that's another reason why I mean San Francisco will be the first game. In this -- in this two game stretch and in San Diego they played teams almost every you know because of the playoffs and right and one -- On. Yet and I just think it's so that's why I think they're going out probably a day earlier to get to use the time zone and change in. Have that extra data prepare mean. It like he that you you don't even niners. That often around here and I think the last time they they actually came to Foxborough was the last the last time we played. Played San Francisco. And a totally different team than it was four years ago so. It it might have helped them if they were playing in the second week. John like if they if they know they're playing San Diego first and then San Diego it would be. More of a benefit that this thing out there but they played him on the first weekend I don't think there's really much of a difference in in preparation. That the Patriots out of it'll certainly help from the San Diego."
[28:03]" If we look -- weak hand here. On the schedule -- Francisco has played at new war this week's -- 49ers will be on the road you know. Do you think he gives a team from. An advantage to be able to it and watched. Next week's opponent I mean if they didn't want the New Orleans San Francisco game this weekend. How much more can they learn. Other than what they would normally do when film sessions preparing for well and that's a good question and you know -- that bill. That's like the question before and usually during the play out Matsui got the bye week you can look at a team. And his response is usually well watching the game on television during. Network broadcast. Is a lot different than watching and on the coach. Because they're so many different things you can't the on a network broadcast you can. On on the coaches tape that but it counselor does it help me get a feel for the flow of things I mean because. You know you're so focused when -- on the field and again a lot of things that you -- is well that you rely on the film study to it to chemical back on but. You get more of the field. In terms of game flow don't you think he hit I think you're a little bit more relaxed in the way you watch if you're just watching and as a fan has dealt with my feet -- in my hand -- back up on the left -- I'm going to have. What that yes that -- but I mean as far as your when your breaking down film you have a different mindset of how you're watching how you're looking at something year here analyzing more. Watching on television. I think it's a little bit harder to do that but. You know. Maybe maybe it helps them a little bit but I don't I don't -- all that big -- deal just they'd just based on what. The way bill answers that question among the players have talked about that kind of thing. They're big. They're big way of doing it is is watching the coach and sing -- and on television is just. Tonight it's at now if they get help from what if they're around they can watch it they'll watch lines not not if nobody yeah no big deal right. It is a lot of guys you know this is the off week and because of that the try to spend whatever time on the camp with a family and you know yeah honey do list or whatever they got going -- yeah and might even be better for them not to watch anything. They want and I'll never thought of that number one and number want to kind of -- you know sometimes you need that mental break which is true but number two. If the coaches are already going to give them what they want them to you about this team that you don't want to perceived notion they're instructed developing your own mind. -- this -- do what I have to do against act when the coach may be telling you you needed to lie in order to be active or plus we're also assuming that. All of these guys have. The NFL ticket package and the -- to the -- team because these guys have -- I don't know if they do because let's they're they're always they're playing so I don't know if it's worth -- while that if -- it's not certainly not going to be the network in the -- So that they probably want to have him in and and even if they did I don't know if they'd want him in New Orleans by the way is three point home favorite -- when you answer one and two course the 49ers to one so I think we'll probably have more people like. You mean you know media fans have been watching that game and interest -- you got NFL ticket. This why you get it we usually look at upcoming opponent and what have you and I think that'll be certainly game that you want to pay attention to his -- get a bit of that is we've talked about how already at least and in drips and -- this week that. San Francisco is one of those teams that mild surprise to start the year with a 211 record certainly especially when their starting quarterback in the -- and even make our practice squad about that a year ago with a guy who's been on all of it seems like almost every team in the league. At this point because it for every and it's these the -- actually right he did he came in for a trial what was the store he was on the practice squad or."
[31:47]" May be -- weaker too. JT O'Sullivan. And it was."
[31:55]" I'm from remembered that it actually might have been last year might have been -- before two years ago in my head I'm. Losing track -- that out but I outright it it in. The last couple years that he was with the Patriots and it wasn't with them for that long but he wasn't on the team and -- a practice squad player but. He's he's -- that would almost every team in the league that he's been -- he's been sort of a practice squad it will give you try out you can run our scout team. And he started for the niners now I was shocked that he was even in the league. This summer when I saw that he was competing for a job and anyone the job. The starting job I was I was shocked based on one little I knew about the guy I mean but it's playing well enough that you know. He deserves he's playing better than their first round pick obviously Earl -- I wouldn't be in on the bench announcement. Here look in the 49ers. Information here is that he was. He was."
[32:53]" Society was first of two round picks by the St. In notes who's whose original election by New Orleans Oklahoma yet you know to trade about nor was Green Bay in 4 okay. That he was waived by Green Bay you know I've signed by Chicago. The practice squad and O five and then I'm by Minnesota to their 53 man roster from Chicago's practice squad in November rule five and waived by Minnesota in September of 6. Signed by New England to the practice squad on September 5 2000 stick it through music and then waived by the Patriots October 2. 2006 and he lasted almost a model and on our practice squad two years years ago that was right two years and members Stevenson might sense he left the Patriots -- teams -- there right and you let the pictures and I'd like Carolina. In December of -- and so he's spent. What more than a month on or unemployed. That he was signed by Chicago. Again there were able Evans a second time around for the Bears. Than waived by Chicago in July it was haven't signed by Detroit in July of those of and a week later -- every NFC north teams -- four and then he was high and ultimately by San Francisco. As an unrestricted free agent. From Detroit. On February of this year so his eighth different team and ninth different -- had -- with the Bears and two time for the very believable and you start and now he's starting. He is a you know. Six year out of vocals -- university California Davis product on the radio 622. You know what got to get credit -- perseverance that the very. Yeah it is -- him credit for perseverance. While you don't want it just goes to show you that sometimes is not all about. Your ability is all about timing. And here's a guy that is literally been he's he's kicked around the bush -- for. His entire career six years six years is kicked around kicked around again he's gone back of whether we just now. Nine different teams play different teams nine different times they different teams. And he finally found a place that you know he's doc and his opportunity. Presented itself yeah. A lot of times you might be able stick around the opportunity does present a double here if presented itself because Alex Smith was such an abysmal year yeah they -- an injury problems and everything -- You know I like okay -- ego JT here's the ball. Also speaks."
[35:12]" The equality of quarterbacks that are available. In the in the league at this level. That a guy like -- kick around for that long and and still become a starter. You know we were talking about -- someone of the other shows about how there's only really three or four maybe five -- we quarterbacks in the game. And if you don't have one of those guys you're. Basically even -- everybody else made that goes yeah it's amazing."
[35:36]" So here's a guy that that last on the Patriots. Practice squad for a month two years ago who's now starting for the 49ers and you lead them much at New Orleans this Sunday and then he will lead on his team it would appear. Boring on the them for seam between now and then lead his team. Against the Patriots next week in San Francisco -- you know while we -- touch on the story here that I'm sure we'll get a lot of the local focus. From the Boston area media next week is here's a guy that. Actually been a month time you know in the Patriots organization. I also to admit that one of the guys that I've admired as a coach and and maybe this is just become because I know he has to have some of the same batteries father. But he is you know guy like coach Nolan San Francisco. His dad's -- was as iconic a figure. Signal it was it was as iconic figure in the NFL as Tom Lander Vince Lombardi. Just because of the suit that he wore the tire they were -- he was the old he epitomized old school. In the NFL back in the 1960s and seventies when you know they were all of their heyday and I'm I'm glad that he's done. And opportunities to current economic things happen. Refresh our memory and Dick Nolan. He was. I'll have to go through the book to use of the particulars but he was. Back in the sixteen with John Brody is the quarterback and that's separatist -- at his go all right -- are so Nolan is actually to -- the team and his dad his dad wants a coach that is correct okay that is correct but I lost that he go all the way up to Walsh. I believe he did duel at the wall right now he's gonna have me thinking about adamant. And look at it here in him he's going on the -- also I -- a or you do is also taken over for his -- as far as via the clothing you wear in the suit on the side which I thought was a very classy move. I'm glad that you know they allowed. On him to do that tubular sort of honor his father like that. Bullets yeah that. I always wondered. Not every coach can pull off now Landry did it all via -- and Landry did it basically right up until the day he stopped coaching Italy and where was it 1989 rate he did it right up until the very -- whenever won the 88 with his -- it was in my nine and Johnson that Johnson moved him. Com so I ordered one more coach did try to do that is probably because the coach got the clothing contract at the wheel well that no -- idea part of it. The league didn't allow it for awhile well once Nolan and ninth and over -- right to get permission. Yeah once it once they got to you know coaches you know having their own contracts as well and being a part of the clothing contract William they had to wear whatever was. Kind of presented to them so. Our time funniest here you know there has to -- yeah well I was gonna say a lot of -- because frankly. Should have is committed to memory but I don't. So that's part of what that that might Marty noble will get -- and let's do this and that -- we'll have a chance to. Get Russell as well Russell Baxter coming up to compliment it. And that of course we have the Troy Brown. News conference retirement news conference with members of the Patriots media from earlier today here at -- day in the you're gonna get your chance listened into and yeah you would I would think that you would want to listen because quite frankly it's an historical moment. In the Patriots franchise history. You're talking about a guy that undoubtedly be in the Patriots hall of them all it -- replaced by Raytheon to actually get that right he will be here at some point time in the very near future. And a guy that. For all practical purposes was mr. Patriot and came to pit demise. You know this modern day 1990 slash 2000. Patriots franchise in on turning around from what. Prior to that was largely moribund franchise to one of the winningest."
[39:24]" You know in North American professional sports. Yeah he was. -- it's funny how is his career arc win because he he straddled that. That. That offense of the he was still part of that team that wore the red jerseys all the time and was had that that losing stigma to it. He was here for the beginning with Parcells and in the transition the bell at second. Going that first Super -- Parcells and Celtic was a part of that team. But. Then making the transition that this Super Bowl era team and winning you know that he's experienced the just like the fans he's experienced the the the real ups and downs highs and lows of of vote of what is what it's like that it. To be a Patriot to be a Patriot and and you know he's he's originally from West Virginia. I believe -- played at Marshall. -- actually originally from South Carolina but South Carolina yes but he but he played it to Marshall played played at western nearby but they'll consider is West Virginia a home. I believe -- keeps a home there yet so but I think -- a lot that. He didn't take the opportunity to go to another team because he like he loves this area so much and and respects the franchise in the Kraft family and and and the coach and and is and -- teammates don't watch them."
[40:48]" Yeah I I hope that you will have you know at the time to be able listen and you'll have that come -- for -- about forty to 45 minutes as -- I'm in Arizona around these moment I think -- evacuating more -- over. They're there. It. Oh yeah those little bit more little bit more information that we need to know what nevertheless that wide eyed that Simon -- that was very I would by the way because he had much well but it puts it this way -- he kept pumping me up yesterday about it he can and you know. Michigan -- was starting to warrant an -- you know look at eleven the one -- man field which is not too far away and operational control the one your picture plays you know week you know get. Open run in but. In focus on the text makes kind of -- even though it's not all just text makes in the which is what I like about it and so I get here right here earlier than I normally do are coming actress too much prep at home right I have my own little studio and office at home and obviously -- but he is a crap about it want to do my show when we do the show here from my home video on Wednesday they all had won by the way that they don't come in here nobody would ever come in there. Nobody would ever come in little secret I mean not only do I do the show from this show from the Wednesday's -- and national of -- in. -- at home ailments right now drive or no and I'll do a lot of stuff WEEI alive you know to suffer them from a studio as well best investment government that's great so you know way. If you can do what you do of course. But I'm on the looking for the next Thursday because you -- things is going to be a weekly well current that we rally today it is illegal yet usual working on that yeah so he should get early he handsomely -- them right. So I can hear one party which is usually more than I about ten minutes or showtime. Normal get a -- very commendable right earlier that a little earlier today because you're judo was here and so sure enough by walking in on call though that go on to hit it like local idiot you know and they buzz for about fifteen a lot of it -- always people found out about it Nell came down oh yeah very. -- web master who as soon as he heard the opens the the FP FW progress showed turns around everybody knows I eagle on us district you don't look for us Chris. That man will never miss an opportunity to get free food. But it we've we've Fed. Legitimately two point five to thirty people crap -- production came down right now. Automation I didn't come -- it's a thirty. Thirty now on thirty I'm at number thirty yeah well Brian I just picked -- the -- that's okay that's all right I appreciated every outing here a little earlier all of Thursday's round and we got thirteen more at least they're. At least thirteen weeks right. Look Fortson yeah yeah. At least. That that carries aren't like they'll come then again aren't we we thought we take a break in the and that way you can get around that work for you. Okay are -- Baxter coming up on the other side right here in the play."
[44:19]" Eleven acute over catering -- a fifty -- for a -- not -- very far from together catering and give them food down never forget -- get I'll let you go back."

All once in a lifetime experience every play every. Great place everyone wins."
[48:43]" Stick -- our numbers and I. -- ago. -- I was rolling along here within -- Patriots playbook or Thursday by the way before we get the Russell Dick Nolan. -- 49ers 1960 day in nineteen -- but we did obviously reach deep debt by. Four year. They'll bill Walsh came in as a coach 49ers 79 as I mentioned you one of the iconic. Remembrances of my childhood looking at the NFL because of the the the -- piece of steady warrior of the black and -- in black tie and like his brother against us on them -- is that last year with the two years ago. -- been doing the last couple yeah yeah anyway so. Particularly years ago I think he -- asked for permission from him yes correcting that might have won last year when I think they didn't want to have blisters. Anyway with that let's bring in rustle -- Baxter who is the NFL research coordinator for the ESPN. Family network Russell do you remember Dick Nolan and and how will be remember him."
[49:43]" Well well well -- remembered that -- leave early. Days of the niners before they were -- before they were good before the modern nighter in terms indeed he's in the bill Walsh era to George Seifert -- Those rivalries but the Cowboys -- sodium 71 and 72 when you wanted to see all back the Cowboys -- John Brody the quarterback for the 4970711. Except we're NFC championship game yeah they were in which one -- one it's simply took a one year -- dealt an extra that I of course. Don't 4813. On December 23 1972. And number of that date for a reason. Roger Staubach rallied the Cowboys to a thirty to twenty win rights in San Francisco. Which won the great comebacks in playoff history. Also happen have to beat the same day is another historic event medical history and sometimes -- like it's lost heavily to yeah. December what was it again December 23 1972 there was a play with the political. That now without and I would like it was in the playoffs that that was that the Miami -- you know that would -- be immaculate recess game. Though not a good day -- the Bay Area while you know it wasn't your foot pop and they dedicated hard why he -- government I want an improbable ending and then just when you thought his. Another. Improbable ending you know helped and crazy I mean how could he could get away with a."
[51:14]" Man known as the Titans is amazing villa won't greats. I'm assuming he's going off the Thomas -- with this stuff well I kind of looked up yeah yeah how could look I can't even look at Dick Nolan -- think --"
[51:26]" I don't know how do you doubt yourself that's funny yeah -- on the state you know forty years after the tackle go in 1992. Seed to beat -- the Eagles twenty to seven in the play. And -- the St. also give up 29 consecutive points. And the only game that don't eagle to everybody liked it never won a playoff game that's true and it was -- coat tight equals one in New Orleans. Then they watch the Cowboys of course would doubt that won Super Bowl year that being kinda gets lost because it was the same day. As to build comeback over the Oilers well in 1992 at the hospital at ten more years after that we'll go to 2002. Pittsburgh Steelers -- counts seventy. -- Cleveland Browns and home of the playoffs and wild card out. Comeback win. I didn't get lost because later that they interpret sisco that night or we're down 24. And came back 13938. Member that. What you did at the long snapper with a bad play at the end yeah -- junk and you -- so these things happened like. Twenty intended ten years apart. So nothing nothing crazy going to happen until 2012 you can break it now while okay but -- seemed to have been introduced while. In playoff history for whatever reason -- what does that mean it means they don't go out a lot."
[52:45]" I'll listen -- going to tell you that's why I like to get off on little things like that is it just shows your your football knowledge greatly appreciated. And we kind of got in the -- is good thing because obviously the Patriots play San Francisco next -- but we are talking about how. You know teams and they're all we talent that they really pay attention. During the -- went to the team that they next play and Eric and -- both of the opinion -- more so than me but. Both of the opinion that the guys the players themselves probably don't pay a lot of attention because the the coaching staff is the won the brick and on the film and they want. Players to approach -- a certain. Way do you agree or disagree that night and I ask you because you it and what obviously some very great former players when you guys are talking and watching things on Sunday how much do you look at next week's opponent if you're in a bye week."
[53:29]" Well. I think. I think it depends on who the opponent is sometimes John and Eric I mean I think it's divisional opponent it's someone you're a little more familiar way that. So even though -- even though the excitement of the rivalry. Get too jacked up I know you're going to play that team and so on on the other hand. Knowing the opponent a lot better than he would say when you come back from a by that you're playing. They aren't from this week Buffalo at St. Louis. Did the bills were -- two -- and play the Rams who they you know they play every once every four years. It probably becomes that it a different sense it has nothing to do defect Buffalo's three though in the reactor would play I think it's it's a preparations sort of game. You know much like. A lot of things you almost prepared to games and advance now he kinda keep -- overshadowed it's not a good looking ahead to an opponent. Look at the Arizona Cardinals as he did a perfect example they they do they were going to be on the east -- two weeks Guerrero Big East. There's some work -- the DC area I believe right now at Virginia. As stable travel up to the meadowlands. To play the Jets this week at you know one week after playing. The Arizona Cardinals. Play the Washington Redskins. Last week I believe that you guys over there and I -- that I don't that the the Patriots have to back to back west coast trips this year is they do coming up Clement persist Dorsey and Diego right and then the other one -- Oakland Seattle double -- right yeah that's yeah Oakland it's obviously. You know that's still travel. Separate sisco did you decide whether that's going to cavs. But I'm guessing that the that the Patriots might stay up the week. It's different than not for the niners and Chargers I don't know touched you're you guys might know better than what. Now believe these the plan is to do that correct and he put when you have. The order for the rest of the Patriots last year was I mean a lot of things obviously but -- other than their trip to Dallas they never really traveled into the Super Bowl. Well we yeah we. We had mostly east coast Friday just gals and guys like that you know Jerry conspiracy theories out there wake up listen to -- sank the -- dumb luck. It's all luck if you guys you know the schedule that your eight years in advance. Except for two games that are determined by how you finish right that we don't we go over 2009 and start plotting everybody's win loss records and you want to do that. And so it was just dumb -- it turned out the way it turned out this year. The AFC east play -- that is more road games. Involved but I want to -- the last seven. Regular season games last year and then -- on the playoffs. The Patriots longest road trip in that span was. Baltimore that's correct on a Monday night that's right. A guy that's absolute right and so on -- let's say the money and it is salary cap I need to get out of the game and only advocate got -- Speaking of the schedule."
[56:23]" I think in 2002 was when they from the NFL I did -- I."
[56:27]" Slam back I start the original release the whole rotation -- really. Have probably do it I would imagine sometime in the picture so won't get the want to go to that -- its tenth 2070."
[56:37]" That's are just going to ask because I think O nine next year is the last year the rotation rotation yeah."
[56:42]" Well different different people who don't understand what league start doing that come. They -- bring up physically able might even be in the release. In 1985. In their third year in the league John Elway Dan Marino squared off for the game. Mile High Stadium great games 32 point six whose. Elway would coming off a good unity before -- come up the -- okay. Young guns exciting -- won't -- likely you know they'll meet each other every year and a announcement that Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins did not play teacher that. After that until 1998. They went thirteen years don't think about that grimacing conference yeah. -- the -- gathered during a conference throws right they're both the way the schedule would send -- back down with the way you finished quickly with the way you finished dead of course we start getting into. Some -- says division suppose that it's something that division to work some live right like we -- the sixteen division. And they just -- the league goal and setting up the schedule they didn't 2002 to 2009. -- the by the end of this rotation every team. Well played every other team all the way at least one probably multiple interest but every team will be that -- play since we've got. I would think Pittsburgh on a Monday night is playing at Washington. I know that because I have to be going got a game next month or in November. If you look at that -- regular season game in twenty years in Washington. Twenty years when he when he came to 88 while that's what -- so quarterback. If you play the rest actually actually with the quarterback -- the last time they played they play the Redskins but not in play and appreciate them more often than they do in the regular season but nothing more that the legacy to the Pittsburgh yeah. That's just the way so the idea so everybody can see everybody and everybody. It's great hitter -- had a -- I -- like I don't Israeli I. And what about parity that we can't replay it markets don't want to go to the playoffs anyway that was."
[58:41]" You gotta win the games that are on you get right down to -- the three or four games you play in the and it does just it just -- that the schedule more interesting when you have a team that you don't. Normally face you know."
[58:52]" What you need to go to my favorite kind of games I'd you know I'd love theater conference games -- needs needs. It's speed it's the college version of the at a conference games you look -- you know the Ohio State USC's totally better than that. Until I was stayed a couple of years ago because these teams that don't feature that will -- you know if we're talking about the chess match in two teams know each other well. That's great but he public chess match is where they don't know each other that I think the intrigue really comes that."
[59:19]" Right. Well let's let's take a look at this week's schedule -- because we know the Patriots are which were off this week I'm not going to dwell. I'm always on here on Sunday except as you. How shocked. Where your compatriots in watching that game in your cold or watch in the game. Last Sunday I mean was there disbelief forward the racially somebody -- that I knew this was common."
[59:42]" Well the person and this is coming alive let's salute but that would -- exactly shot well that's why is the cause my little -- might might. One funny joke well I'll just make it when you openly say it would 96 Pearson. I didn't know that was familiar trio. -- other it was -- if you more than ninety. -- have nothing to say -- I mean as we sat there and watched in disbelief. You know waiting on any given Sunday. Now but let's a lot of eagle with a W the way they did it. -- who who would simply stunning doubtless have their do we always talked about the concerned with -- sent. Especially the team was going detail on the belittle the agent linebackers and so on but the I believe Chad Pennington was eighteen to 22 when making millions and let's throw the -- numbers I think -- it's seven yards -- field nobody was -- it's funny Pennington has played started five games of their cards he agreed to. It's a pro what ever -- beat them up there a couple of years ago people want to Sunday night Beckett 2002. Did -- get into the familiarity I guess. Of knowing an opponent but I mean. That this would be with a different Chad Pennington we've all week one against Miami BBC if you go back and look at the Dolphins who couldn't cover. The first two weeks could not cover the receiver to say don't lots against the leader -- Brett Favre Kurt Warner. And all the sudden you know you know put together was on the field the last week. Which just stated you know they beat Miami played such complete game that they had their wrinkle there's no doubt that the direct snap. The back and so on but. You know stuff I mean at least that I couldn't I -- until the guys were more stunned. But we were all forced on the debt or or the opposite the super ball there I think it would -- great. This when this was more shocking news what 2724. The 3813. The that."
[1:01:37]" Though the loss in the Super Bowl to me was more. Stunning in that I just didn't think that with two weeks to prepare. With having seen the team so close you know less than a month earlier than -- played a team knowing they were on the verge of history. To. I I was I stones on the -- him in the Super Bowl it doesn't surprise me that they lost. The division. Game two to Miami or let go and play in which the way they thought it was the was -- real -- question they lost. Because they couldn't defend one particular play five times. The same play five times they couldn't defend. One of them was a 62 yard run one of them was a -- down on the on an option that I halfback option one of them was at the other two or three were just Ronnie Brown running straight up the middle. They couldn't defend that play the and the other thing that surprised me was that. Chad Pennington efficient as he was. Was hitting guys down the middle and the core wide open."
[1:02:38]" Which is where you attacked New England I mean we I think you guys saw that later in the year last year. Two would give green you know and I that it sounds funny you know 4920. Game what you saw Miami played him at Miami last year. And you know Miami had a little success he Connecticut never sustained it because their defense. It was camera work or relevant -- still trying to jump up and -- bought it. On the passes but. I think that you saw after the you know that they've blown up Buffalo on a Sunday they played Philadelphia. If so that you really got -- up the -- sort of Baltimore that you started seen teams. Really try to capitalize on them up the middle and so on but. You know credit discredit the Miami Dolphins to. I think they obviously -- the coach did you see something works and well we'll -- that played for the third quarter. They eat they sprinkled that in just at the right times and to quote bill Reynolds in the longest yard. When he cookie that read HT you know where -- the second time. It worked once you know to work again work again. This and that and they did and they want simplest I think it was a but the way it was done it's not. It's not that fact that they lost. Okay it was it was now. And I'm sure you guys noticeable because like I know there were comments made by the you know what I about the result cops are the players. And leading do we get up play that well he's -- feel about that and so -- and I'm sure people were surprised -- I don't think thinking did you know put on the front page of newspaper."
[1:04:12]" I thought they hear anything about that Russell the it wasn't like the players were coming over to the media and saying hey we want to talk about the fans leaving. It was the media that was that was in there when this happened the media. Questions from all different reports it wasn't just one person but the that there. The theme that there were going for that day it was hey how about those fans leaving early and going here at the -- the players most of them are going to."
[1:04:36]" It's about yeah. And and I don't mean this as a slot but most times a week or comments. Like that or other comment is well. The answer is usually followed by question being -- it's usually the -- just come up and say. Call out a teammate. Make it -- and everybody together we're going to get something really elaborate on that right. That's usually somebody who's asking the questions so there's no reason to go away in my point figured Ellis Hobbs or anything like that. I'm sure that's what would that so well sure. You guys didn't walk into the locker room Arnold sudden Ellis or whatever players that there were more. All the sense arguing arena on that they had no no threat and I'm sure the reporters insults were probably. Peeking up the press box and saying well you know what everybody --"
[1:05:23]" Yeah now nine you know you're right that -- it's -- you know sometimes you. Especially in this team you you start with one question and it leads to. Some some other topic at the player -- talk about right. And that's and that's sometimes develop into a -- that wasn't the case here wasn't like they were asking me you know how did you play today and then it's spiraled off into hand around about."
[1:05:49]" Right right everybody pressure whatsoever hope other people didn't. That someone gave up Ellison said -- you guys that are really tough time against the run because yeah advantage oldest people leave early right yet that the the."
[1:06:01]" The direct questions were about the fans and and they had the aunts and it was a little doubt it probably wishes he could left early you know and some former -- maybe he already did."
[1:06:12]" like that Saddam just sitting there with the with our -- deal -- be Cuba. Brief glimpse of what it's like down and our room and so on the -- the American you know we're watching everything that's going on and stuff like that and it -- That's one of those looking each other tourney each other's heads not saying anything to -- well just gone."
[1:06:31]" All. -- wow. Walk away and -- their -- yeah. Up to the -- Two games that I wanted to look at obviously at least initially here Russell are rock. The two divisional opponents that are playing this week in Arizona plate -- the Jets. In Buffalo trying to improve the for a know at oh win three St. Louis you talk about two teams didn't -- could not be traveling the more opposite directions at this stage. Buffalo may be one of the sweethearts -- the entire NFL with the way that they started in St. Louis. It may be right at the bottom of the heap."
[1:07:05]" Well. Buffalo. At the start at 1216. Years 1992 I believe it's their last. Three you know start if if memory or might note acerbic yet nineteen that they won Super -- wild card that your and he does that mean they're going to do -- not necessarily. But the one thing didn't impress people Buffalo's had to be giving a lecture group they -- at a meeting about how hard. I think last week kind of is indicative of their improvement from a year ago guys lecture was the year they lost -- to the bunker on fuel Colts. And Denver and Dallas City Hall. Look at those one point games this year they win a one point game where last week against the Oakland Raiders which curtailed 2314. And come back learning how to win they've gotten themselves very -- in the trenches book on the offensive defensive like. Gave it a gutsy runner they've a gutsy quarterback. And they're starting to get a little belief now of course. Here -- the Rams and I think to a litany on just how bad this team this bid and not just this year. Let me throw this one out. Go back to last year. They've lost seven games in a -- guys did and outscored 257 to 96."
[1:08:19]" Okay did they give up thirty points this week this is -- a lot of people don't know. That get maybe everybody knows I was the last one. I actually had this one's sitting in my files -- read ten or twelve years wait for the pop out to give up thirty points this week able typing NFL record. Poker games allowing thirty or more points. That goes back to the 1963. At 64 Denver Broncos in the old AFL. I'll look at they've actually given up at least 33 points. In six games going to act this year. So they have been erratic and outscored 116 to 29 this year in some talent on that team yeah. -- but something horribly wrong there. You know last year you saw a lot of he saw the offensive line definitely I think they used thirteen different starters. At one time. Five different starting right guard targeted starting right tackle no continuity whatsoever yeah excellent club but I don't remember a game yet this year like shooter player on third and against Pittsburgh. And had nothing to do with the Steelers but I remember. We're kind of shouting match guys between Torry Holt Scott Linehan on the sidelines. In -- summaries and it seemed to indicate. What they've gone seemingly gone wrong -- this -- during Scott Linehan probably could start. It certainly does he want -- first five games as a head coach. Seven and 23 cents that. They had. You know I'm not sure listen we've already seen. Want to change major change in terms of hierarchy in the NFL this week. It will ideally watch. I guess what link that. But if you have that tanked the worst team in the league right now that would competitive they've lost by 3528. And 24 points. The first week."
[1:10:11]" Embarrassed yet even -- even the Raiders are putting up some sort of fight of ever of an effort right."
[1:10:16]" Also say that although I'll put him in the modern context they harbor any suicide pool. Whoever is in the -- yeah that does does your team in the -- also say this and in no way my team any kind of an upset. He's in the game to these new Buffalo Bills. Are expected to win you know go on the road show your maturity. Don't go look -- go later because these are exactly the kinda game. At any point -- the parity in the league all the time could be could show whether a team has grown I don't care to build a winner beat them at one point. The key is that the bills need to win this game. Regardless of the score and two with the score. Him you know you're always you're always gonna hopefully get your best effort we can look at Cincinnati last week. At the meadowlands against the -- Superbowl champs and they look horrible the first two games. And they took the giants' overtime. When picking interest those without talent to get to -- went. If you win the games are supposed to win this season progresses you'll win nine or ten games you'll be in the play."
[1:11:22]" The other game Missouri so how would have happened here gathered the Jets at Arizona and Arizona obviously two and one. Of their playing at the --"
[1:11:29]" Right now obviously now it's funny because Arizona lot of people say last week that we should be in Washington the better team you know what it's still pretty good. You know they finish strong last year I know they've had a change in head coaches. You know they -- that first game against the Giants guys to really kind of you seem like work out the bugs you could Jason Campbell who like -- like -- only. Problem with him in the early part of his career is he's one of those quarterback you guys know this really really well from Leicester gave up a New England. There -- some quarterbacks find some time to suited to get hit the ball comes out. And that's learning how to protect the ball and some people think would just be interceptions. But you know you go back and Superbowl last year and it you know like remembered play by Youkilis Thomas. And also would you like a couple of -- to a meeting in the playoffs last year once game against the cal we shot you'll remember. One play in the Super Bowl. As well yeah it's getting hit from behind and learning how to protect that ball and I saw Jason cable last year I think Mike Vrabel him three times in the probable three times. And Roosevelt Colvin really want -- last year and then you -- learn how to protect the ball I think he's starting to -- had to do that all protectionist big. He's got an army Scott's guilt. He's learned -- finding receivers -- field and you know they. Outscored two pretty good offensive teams like two weeks the Cardinals seats in the Cardinals and you know so I think Arizona. I'm not shocked that they lost decade now the Jets. You know lot of momentum after the rod Beck and Philip Rivers and reception wood into two or three minutes of the game. And it all came crashing down really hard you didn't and I don't Christian gets -- that these big league here. But they did the Chargers killed the Jets on third dale. Another -- could just -- cut around again deformed. I have very disappointing effort by the Jets Brett Favre threw two picks probably -- more acute to read the people -- think what part we have one of them. Wait for the the end zone. That Dudley -- injured hand Mike Torre could say shameless plug -- who published could arena back under one -- to be on the on ought to the ball. So we're really had to seek effort by the Jets. We've -- that the cardinal -- you know after playing Washington. This week. Obviously need to put the Jets this is Qaeda activity sky at a crossroads games. From go to these teams because the difference. That's one thing that is going to wind up -- would there but the Cardinals hurt every why the Jets are one of three both -- going to be looking. At different aspirations for this season."
[1:14:05]" Let me also touch on your game one on Monday night Baltimore -- Pittsburgh I think it could be a very very good money -- be. One of the best on the weekend."
[1:14:13]" Little happier I. We do. We have today to help with 41 game equals 3778. Points you know. Last week that we had charges sweetie he gets twenty total that but I don't -- didn't this week. I don't know four to 48 -- the 29. Combined and it witnesses can be a slugfest -- these defenses are playing very very well. Rookie quarterback on one hand and get another quarterback who haven't kept. Who -- quite beating last week and lastly let me point out. You know after running the football with a lot of determination the first two weeks I was mystified and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play off last week in Philadelphia. Which -- the ball nineteen times. In the game. I don't go to Johnson has a lot of creativity on -- today the blitz variety is almost like. The steelers' coaching staff thought they could catch equals. -- that -- problem is when you with the -- with -- You can read for borrowers -- that's secondary that's obviously real. And oh lead Shepherd. And Adam. Brian Dawkins and of course all the Browns a slouch either the hardest hitter Beck group. I understand Pittsburgh. -- last week Baltimore. To the gates and division wins by the way both tackle. Last week they could win the division game except for meeting -- in the year against Pittsburgh you. Sure they say the Ravens secondary was. Really injured and Ben Roethlisberger to five touchdown passes in the first half against them in the rain. I don't think this will be anything kinda like it's I think if I think all the work that you were a little more -- of the Pittsburgh resident Pittsburg. Once -- win -- of course Willie -- out. Casey Hampton -- element that was the parker Drew probably little more concerned. They're going to have to turn to their running game again. As we go. But importantly I think -- deep sense is going to need to. Score so some of their own point. If they're going to cool Ravens."
[1:16:18]" Fair enough I also think I'm going to have the most fun watch enough. Washington at Dallas is -- Cowboys that. John. You can't -- we guided obviously. This could ever get old -- know no no I long for the days of you know George Allen and Tom Landry staring at each other across the field and George Allen and try to play one upmanship with the you know Landry along those days I love the rivalry and in to me because I'm old school. You know one -- Washington plays Dallas gets my attention I don't care how good or how bad the teams are just ravaged the team this year both pretty good and you know the Cowboys right now plays good football as anybody in the NFL."
[1:16:56]" Did you look remember this story expected George Ofman Tom Landry and I believe the -- have a defensive linemen go back Olympic seventy's named Galaxy. And Georgia -- to -- now because I guess he went to cal Berkeley right. And he would never called out. Not. That was the story that was good okay I'm sure -- and -- it's somewhere I'm dog I wish George -- like Dallas --"
[1:17:23]" Last name wasn't Dallas then George what had a hard time not put his name on the back of enters into salary Kitna a boat and never looked."
[1:17:30]" Hollywood Henderson David. And Nokia -- the thats the kinda stuff you miss and it's nice to know that it in this stage of free agency where there's. You know two guys played the same teams and all that stuff you know markets -- a -- the chief. You know people rolled over that one still. There's something about dealt -- Washington. That never gets old and it's never not a rivalry and it doesn't matter they're both good -- that I remember the Monday night a few years ago to matter effect. Both teams went into the game winless. On Monday Night Football. In the game reading why he's still two more. Than a baseball playoff game did on. -- any evidence still launch was dealt to Washington. I don't think -- it's it's big I think it just simply. That's the good thing that the NFL sometimes we we've -- who's behind me the uniform. -- inside helmet but a lot of times and still get caught -- in. The helmets and in the uniforms and sometimes we don't -- who's in the -- wrinkle that would media viewed Washington against Dallas you just though. It's going to be something great it's likely that he's president -- as well right. Yeah well yeah like Yankees with -- little absolutely not -- which really -- rookie group there you root for the rivalry is and that's what I'm sure won't disappoint weather should be good to Washington's. Let's they would almost be in the Dallas last year they played well throughout the game at the end of the year Lester because the cowboy state. You know I don't think -- the smartest thing neighbor did because it really let the dormant for about three weeks. Double Washington need to -- to get into the playoffs and so on but that he lit them up in Dallas slash your four touchdowns. And so on Michael it might try to do that together they might need him do that again Guantanamo it's good running back Clinton Portis and Marion -- both played well right now."
[1:19:17]" I'm I'm counting on ideal performance like that is Dallas I was with a team I Drew my survival pool this week. -- only ago made the Cowboys to come through --"
[1:19:28]" I what they can use -- already. No I did not use the you know waited and he gets it -- that been the subject you know of 100 people had do we -- last week."
[1:19:38]" A lot -- particular pool I know -- we have we have we have hundreds Liverpool. In my pull a 190 people at the Patriots and."
[1:19:45]" It won't listen. Poor information information suburban is the only Troy is only about television did exactly the ago brought my ligament I talked to you from Tampa is like a little college football duty next night. But you bringing Eric -- Eric Eric and I holed a forty year I would you know -- actually I was glad -- I I told Gerry -- Eric had a -- left last year I didn't -- I was -- in the -- still don't all live like I. I'm not I I apologize -- I was gonna say hey Russell I have to take up -- you're in the middle of of making a great pointed in -- interrupt you so I had that this kind of snuck out and I and I left the the dirty work listening -- Johnson and I apologize that that's quite all right I'm actually pretty good. Russell -- always have a great weekend you can guide -- definitely --"
[1:20:40]" Russell Baxter and I felt research coordinator for. ESPN. Before we get off to Troy Brown saw a news conference which we probably going to play quick word here from our friend Amir who recently -- is a I love Troy Brown I think was very underrated he made lots of amazing plays my favorite player was the overtime catch of a Brady bomb against Miami for the win which we talked earlier Eric. Second favored the TD punt return in the AFC championship gimme a Steelers that's another woman I've forgotten. Third -- the blood OPEC I was -- game what do heady time it was a really -- the type of team we had in 2001 they were less talented but seem to have more desire. Over achievers like Teddy and Troy would make unbelievable plays and just keep waiting for this year's team to catch lightning in the bottle and maybe. It will happen at a -- in Foxboro so I think that he -- of says it all right there right yeah there there are certain defining moments in every player's career especially players as the longevity that Troy Brown had. And those of the ones that stick out. Absolute ones until the count that one. Like -- there was mention that that catch that fourth down catch against the Giants in the meadowlands I believe it was the last regular season game of the year. And I believe it determine whether or not they. Got the by a war it had something to do play a position -- in -- members a little -- at this point but if they didn't win that game. Either they would of made the playoffs or they would had a different seating editing it about I can't remember exactly who what the look that up but. It was important that they won that game. And if they don't make that catch. If Troy Brown as -- make that catch on fourth down the Patriots provident lose that game I believe that was the same game where David make it ran back upon for touchdown. There a couple of great plays in the game Bledsoe had one of his better games I think that game through his memorable for a lot of reasons but I always remember him Troy Brown. Slipping falling lying on his back. And the ball is thrown just. Low enough that he was -- on his back to reach -- and catch it -- and get the first -- right that's what I was thanking them -- it was amazing one of the -- particular -- consider in the context it was absolutely -- well -- Eric thank -- as always in -- with -- again thanks for -- with -- next -- we'll -- at a -- will be talking we just -- each -- physically anyway -- Erica -- here Eric will be -- in the -- death of -- all the -- little different -- exactly -- all the emails -- and -- Visiting from him by bit the Pittsburg at south Florida next week I'm going to be the national radio -- I you know hopefully. I always our reporters at a record up or zillion -- grow these great players this person ever to deep in the middle under the led the nation and tackles last year so you know hopefully we pretty good. A bomb and actually this week about UConn -- we had -- off the blue oval tomorrow or -- you know to do you Crennel will be the Friday night game on. Is that statement. The Friday and on Friday and college games -- the think I I almost sacrilegious. But then they play and market and you know they play in and given an opportunity put it on television because you just can't televise everything so. Well markets were in high school might not be quite as big argument that's what -- that. Right now we're going to bring to you from earlier today you're at Gillette Stadium all the retirement press conference if you will all of a number eighty fan favorite. Forever and always --"
[1:23:56]" Well. Welcome everyone wanna. Welcome Troy -- to his home here and -- Because they came back. Excuse me your -- Fourteen years ago. Or about the team. Throughout Tomlin. Three head coaches dozens of -- and coaches. And the 820. Players. And there's only one player. Who's going to constant through that -- credit to actually was here before them ago. And as you'd run through the end of last season. And how -- for a good Troy Brown. Threw me the consulate Patriot. What do you do it on the field. And the way he can dump them off field conduct himself off the field. The fact that you always put tuned for a -- Still with the Patriots broke his whole career when he could've gone from other places. And got more money. And you chose those here and I. Think of a great life and for the young players on our team -- those who are worried about. Making the team. Troy was actually drafted in the eighth round of the 1993. Today. You would really be like a religion undrafted free agent because there is no way round and then he started as a punt returner. -- kick returner and then in 97. Yeah actually started it. Wide receiver and then of course you his contributions mountain monsters. And in the no -- season when he broke a team record for a options. And -- over a hundred receptions and what sticks out most to me about what he did and was. Wasn't good on special tools either crush in the Pittsburgh and the championship game. Where I believe we will are run run by. Little are going to touch -- or six or 736. -- some points -- dollar number but I don't remember. That you. He returned a Josh Miller punt for 55 yards right up the middle. And then he blocked a kick. We'll -- That he lateral to a tournament that he was responsible for fourteen point alone on special teams here. And then of course an -- horror. He. -- the nickel back -- when we needed him as well as being an outstanding wide receiver. And I guess -- I think back all the wonderful years with him I'm all holes so proud of what he rappers -- human being. He's a wonderful father -- have put me through on here and his beautiful wife who is. Responsible for Hamlin and -- someone who whatever he has ever done off the field -- everyone talks about Troy Brown. The talk with a good human being years a lot of good name has. So I looked at Carl -- for one moment. And that goes quick presentation."
[1:28:13]" Thank Robert. Truly. True is -- an honor and a privilege. The coach Troy. Primarily since I came back in 2000 but even you know my -- in ninety. When I was here -- Secondary coach. I yeah I think Roy is as we vote talk about our players. Just the consummate professional and a great story you know guide it really didn't have a college scholarships got the last scholarship at Marshall. As government and draft in the eighth round we now -- round draft. Make that kinda sums that up. Yeah I remember when I was in Cleveland. And I talked to a coach Parcells. And -- the year after is right 94. That he is an you know we get -- from marshall's. Punt return. And -- that are not -- some things like about them. And and I got here in 96. And and it worked against Troy coaching secondary we do want to once every day in and we're in good or neighbors on the team. But on it was natural -- Troy is covered it is -- and when Charlie and I work the Jets and then ultimately. You know came back into remember. You know Charlie and I had several conversations about. You know this. -- guys really good football player and he just hasn't had the opportunity. What we're really think he can do it and and you know as a slot receiver and and -- of covered up that big play receivers versatility and kicking game that. You know Detroit or gone on to have a tremendous career here catches a franchise history. -- want to -- and go -- season including the playoffs. You know I think back fondly of of some of the great moments. Detroit had here you know offensively. The although the pass from David Patten in the Indianapolis game it was huge play for and got a big game. Those Super Bowl. Honda the -- across the middle where he got out of bounds we had no timeout stopped the clock. And out of the game winning field goal. Against Carolina in 3. In a Super Bowl three catches on -- Thoughts now winning drive. Which you know without that first and wanting. Now I don't know where that drive ends up where he may you know great catch over the middle from Tom. The snow game. You know everybody talks about Adam's kick and it was health care. But you know without the punt return. At that up to put in field position where we you can always going to fuel range I don't know server is -- care. And you know we got into the 4 season and have them. And injuries in the secondary and you Troy it in odd position and and of these people are. And I very first game we played and I was saying and yeah I was out again another Belgrade off a football team and you know he had a big day there defensively help out broke out and have. Really that them played a big role and I game so. Caught probably the easiest touchdown was Heredia. We prepare Vinatieri down there for them and four. On for our line come on they feel. And then Nam. You know -- he had the year option against one. And you know -- Cincinnati game against Carson Palmer to kind of -- that win. And just you know had them has some big plays for on the defense out of the ball. But the game that really stands out -- there is the is the Green -- my week went up there -- no they're in Eugene will now. Rodney Harrison was out. And that was. And we're going to put Troy around -- driver. -- remember what an air. You know on the defensive coaches in the in the players like. 93 catches thirteen hundred yards driver was leader -- in. Detroit on the -- Only caught was you know -- when people that they get one catch on for three yards against driver and and that play you know in our locker room we have. And and it always means that fourth we have pictures up from you know different games and different players. Made -- picture. I don't want to get -- these pictures from the team that that picture epitomizes Troy Brown. Up against the best or -- in the NFC. And -- gain that. Three of our key defensive backs well and he got up on those and those great problem."
[1:33:07]" Our member of the Miami game. In Miami. When we couldn't win in Miami in early part of the year I don't know how long I don't think we've ever done we never won in Miami. And it didn't look like we're gonna win that day -- thirteen thirteen minutes ago and over time. We couldn't move the ball. It was a tough day again. You know Charlie call 130 gap lineup. -- looks back -- a weak side doesn't have it. Troy Brown those runs opposed. It's -- every time safeties and -- gives us want to his figures such. As long as. 81 yards. The beat Miami in Miami. And nobody's fault it is. Nobody thought -- could go deep and nobody thought he could make the big plays. But all he did was make -- just kept making them. And I think back to the 91 season. You know where Troy. Had a all those punt returns. To Oakland game Pittsburgh game for a touchdown. And the Cleveland game you know that was another game where -- seven and five. Tough game at 1010 back -- four neither team can really. You know get much of an advantage. And Troy take out one back right up the middle. And our. That touchdown against Cleveland warm it to block on hard yeah I think -- needed that that -- walk on that touchdown. So. -- many. Great memories of view and all you've done for. This organization a football team and me personally I'll be forever grateful and indebted to you and it truly has been an honor. Truly an honor to coach you. As professional football player and on behalf of football team. And myself want to give you these three. Pictures. Three of our. Greatest memory is a view on Manning. Us."
[1:35:23]" Well thank you. It is we're coming out today in. You know -- event alone. Might try to get the result with Auckland today so. Going to. I just I wanted to come here and I -- with the guys that the announcement. My retirement from. The National Football League. And most importantly from from the Patriots. I will always be a Patriot just not in uniform. I'm going to write about bill I'm always welcome inability so. -- I'm I'm one -- resident of that invitation and a just that I want to commission which again. Before we just any pop up somewhere and this signal -- talking about what my door of my life now -- that Jessica Mellanby uniforms this. It's like to -- That I want to thank first -- thank mr. [1:36:34]" Team was. In -- threatening to move to St. Louis so wherever you came becomes any saves the day you can keep the team here in New England. Isn't -- jet and you know you have to keep your house thank you do appreciate it. And thank bill for a just believe in me. It was kind of hard for me in and I hasn't explaining the first reviews of my career to -- that want to go to that one person that I. Thought that I had awarded today. What it takes to via -- starting receiver in this league. And -- As he doesn't already know have an athlete talent and and after the end of a Beltran availability -- we got to get things done where he wants it done and now. Not playing ability but evident this more depending what he likes to play it. I mean he came an -- taught me. That is the world around I enjoy doing is is is talking about Rhode Island so much and that I played for thirty years. And and that's last on -- for a forgot like myself. The love of the game go. Because it's been a problem last Sunday -- secondary is thirty years. And and at some point. You know you reached that point where you mind just keeps telling me. I was while watching the -- we came in nicely again you know took it you may not make it you know. You just gotta tell yourself on the next and ultimately. You know. What you give up and you go past that and and and go for a and in and -- feel you know and you kind of start things government and the -- tickets you know. You can't you can't I want all the time. You know no matter how much address you can't do. It again. And god knows -- of the going to threat."

[1:40:39]" Catcher and ultimate goal which is to win a championship. Not only winning one but to have an opportunity to play in fact -- championship games. And bring on three beautiful things. [1:41:46]" On work and dedication. Steady -- you know saves one of the smart so football season. And a would always try to give. Them a coach asked me to do. I -- target. [1:43:07]" And it helps a -- He had the confidence somebody. That has accomplished and most these two guys. To be honest that.
