These four weeks now that we have head during the course of the regular season. I a couple of things are the top obviously we'll talk a bit about Lane Kiffin and his firing. From the Oakland Raiders future Patriot opponent might add course in December. There is a -- a piece out on. Pro football talk dot com. In forgive me because I can handle him but he mentioned that said during -- PFW progress today but the thing is I always check him before the show starts. This just was posted approximately a 45 minutes ago fifty minutes ago. Unprovable -- that Tom Brady has chosen urgent to repair his injured left knee and he's expected to have the surgery in Los Angeles. Not here in Massachusetts. Not in Boston not in Foxborough. Not Rhode Island not in New England. All the Boston Globe is actually reporting this and a acted upon appeal of the Boston Globe is reporting that Brady is on tractor and the procedure for weeks after the injury which we actually have until a new. On here on the program is going to take about four weeks for him to have the surgery. And it looks like he is -- or for that four weeks of the injury which occurred of course on September 7. Reportedly -- and MCL doctors usually wait for the end he'll he'll. Before the preformed the surgery on the base steal swelling. Down the doctor that Brady has chosen is doctored deal. -- Trash. I think that the curl and Jobe orthopedic clinic in Los Angeles which relies that Tom being from their habits probably like he's going old clothes home here. This doctor wrote the book currently literally wrote the book on surgical techniques in sports medicine so -- ago. He's picked a doctor won't be here it'll be someplace else they'll be Los Angeles but at least he's on track to have the surgery. And will keep you posted them you know from around. Time to time as the situation warrants but he anytime there is news we know there's obvious interest in that news you know might not necessarily be on the football field. And will bring you up to date on the so long to find themselves. Boarded this weekend but I mean. Be honest. I mean certainly. This certainly -- game. Balm. The other thing that I miss. Was. Just. Good way to put. On. Emotion calm. -- It. Being able to get into this little bit more meaning as we know that whatever the Patriots group like. Although in the bye week the and you you certainly -- vested interest in the action that happens on the field. Just obviously. The -- and all like that. Just didn't have the quite and you know get -- now. I my time try to watch much you know future opponents' -- that could watch all the Buffalo game. Two in the Buffalo game all that unfortunately the wrong time it was fourteen. 1413. Rams were leading. What I kind of -- back and forth and Adam. Honestly. It's I guess we almost now because the of bills. Put Tillman and a winning going away at the end. That lost course obviously led to yesterday's news that does Scott Linehan going to be out Jim as it was coming and replace him. As head coach of the Rams so in the course of the news that link open. Eyes of fired today which is -- their story and I'll tell you about it just a tuning in it just minute but them. Two future Patriots opponents now that have both. Changed coach remove one coach for another. I'm sure remember the last time that happened and we've had in the -- and firing before. But for two in season -- and both of those teams. To -- future opponents on the Patriots schedule. Ever stop and wonder how that might affect preparation. Is coach to have their own styles and their own ways of doing things you can't really changed personnel obviously. But it's certainly. Means there's gotta be I would think a little extra. Study put him. What comes from the Rams in the later this year when it comes time for the Raiders. Because coaches -- coach to tendencies. -- in certain groupings and plays that -- call and and what have you not only be have to study what. Those two teams have done to this point in time when they write -- prior to making their change. But then you have to study what they're going to do from that point in time and in addition you've got to study what coaches. Do. Now if there is. They -- coaches. Do it and who knows at this stage of the game after that we went through last year with a video libraries around here. Each year as a Patriot you'd be looking at Jim has in his. Techniques. You may not be able to look at anything with the Raiders are concerned is quite frankly there is no particular. Replacement named yet for the Raiders I don't know who in the right mind would. I don't know when the right mind would take their job. Except for. Taking it just like Lane Kiffin took it. He's young he's energetic he wants a shot at me and ahead guy and even though he knew that he was destined for failure he still wanted to chance littered on his -- Our home would be interesting to hear what he might have to say in the next couple weeks. How he felt the experience wins especially. Especially when you consider. The arrest of the story is Paul Harvey usually says let me tell you the rest of the story. Al Davis. Called him. This morning. Actually would have been right after noon time have been about a couple of hours ago now -- time. Not only fired him over the phone but fired him without pay according to teams or. Now I don't know how in the heck. Al Davis feels like he'd get all that I I'm not privy to late -- contract. Contractual situation how we took the job. I don't know but I cannot imagine anybody in their right mind signing a contract binding them to one person or one entity. And then if you were in fibers on the other then cause Edward's to a and that really really bad. You're expected to being paid the majority of the contract. The rest of contract that you have coming to."
[9:08]" I mean in if -- Lane Kiffin. You had to know that the footsteps were coming right. So certainly he's had attorney and agent whatever. Look over this contract to find out hey all right if I'm fired here in mid eighties and obviously I'm in good working again for the rest of this year. Soul and I still going to be able to cash paycheck."
[9:30]" Now I'm not sure where blow the whole -- thing comes into play. Is just bomb. I guess it boils down to a difference of opinion. Based on what I've read it and in what we know that there was a relationship. A fraction. Fracture should make between Kiffin and Davis. Bomb. We end Kiffin tried to fire former Patriots defense coach and the current defense scored and rob Ryan after last season was over."
[10:10]" Apparently. -- in the suggested that Davis that. Davis had reneged on an agreement between the two that the coach would have control over his own half. -- coaches have control over their own staffs. Maybe others and Davis that apparently had a letter of resignation for -- to -- And Kiffin didn't do that."
[10:34]" Given apparently oppose some of the free agent signings like Javon Walker in the Angelo hall. He'll want public expressions of frustration. That the team was and -- have been claiming the free agent. And then according to Raiders source is -- apparently in a letter to Kiffin after the season opening game the loss to Denver trying to document. That the coach approved it. These offseason acquisitions I guess there's gotta be ours we let them language in the contract. But Davis apparently feels he can and super -- in order to keep from having to say lane to. Now. I don't know what that would come surprise anybody because Al Davis obviously he's fought the NFL. And he's beaten the and well. After all how could he go from Oakland to Los Angeles backed Oakland again. Apparently as somewhat F effortless looking as as he has done throughout his ten year is Raiders owner. So I'm sure he feels like hey I can beat the NFL in in in the in the court. I can certainly -- kittens but. I don't know if this is. The height of hubris. Or just pure stupidity or the ability has finally -- in. Or Lane Kiffin is really -- on the deal that he signed don't know. Maybe this will all come out a wash over the next few days. Maybe it will never come out. -- I don't know but I I have to admit. I don't know how in organization. Can be competitive on the field was so much turmoil. Going on. Within roiling within as it is. It's it's amazing. And their appearance in Super Bowl thirty what was it 37. Six years now since they've -- editors assume they've gone through four coaches. They have Evan road wins total. In those six seasons and their winning percentage. Is but 24%. That it's -- it's being AFC champion. And losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 37 and between the two Patriots -- obviously. Between a one -- 3. This team. Hazards. -- coaches. Point 4% when it presented seven road wins in six years. I I I that's just unfathomable. How does something go. That far out that quickly. Raiders -- one in three on the season thus far they have blown leads in the fourth quarter in two of those three losses. They had lead in the fourth quarter over the bills. Obviously and they and in fact the last Sunday as well over the San Diego Chargers. In fact here's the ones that that's tells me that is not not necessarily Kiffin fault here. Maybe a little tweaking needs to -- but -- personnel wise or even coaching. But in Kiffin twenty game tenure as head coach the Raiders were mere five and this team. But in those twenty games the Raiders took leads into the fourth quarter eleven. Times. So they lacked. The ability to finish. I don't know that. On the head coaches did put a calm. Just an an interesting. Perspective. Interest in perspective so when he was hired as head coach he was the NFL's youngest coach 31 years old. Back in there were most of an almost two years ago. He was hired straight from USC at the count where he was the offensive coordinator at the time. While there obviously is well known defensive coordinator in -- in NFL circles but system. Interest in -- interesting story. Leading sort of the leading candidate by the would replace him is not rob Bryant even know he was believed to one of the three -- being considered. There was some talk that in fact this was even publicized by Kiffin. Someone is being a little bit disgruntled in the public appearance -- I don't follow it going basically around -- and that. That like rob Ryan might even be stabbed him in the back of undermining his ability to become an active head coach I -- Cox and nasty situation. On Comcast cable. Is teams all the line coach and apparently. Apparently cable. According Morton but he is -- here apparently cable is emerging as the leading candidate to replace skip. Com. There were other candidates Greg Knapp who's -- consultant Paul Hackett. Was one of those and I guess Ryan may not even be on the list here according to more refined very strange and just completely. Unexplainable. -- pretty bad actually Angela too much further -- though it pretty interest. But Al Davis doesn't want to pay that guy. I just I I and that. Rather remarkable so -- and see what kind of verdict comes out in his contract on as the situation plays itself again houses but -- well as -- mentioned earlier. Bulk of the article coaching changes that have happened. Over the last 24 hours involved future Patriot opponent this year which means -- end up have a -- a little extra homework outlined in preparation. For the Rams and later the Raiders doesn't really affect them much this week and -- San Francisco. On but it Bears watching and Torre were looking at him because one of the things we do here in the playbook is trying to also take a little bit of a big picture point of view. And look on down the line to future opponent future happenings -- future than that. Out could directly or indirectly affect New England so they certainly is going to directly. Affect -- On what other things that I want to bring up concerning the future opponent has to do those ramps. And because when they replaced. Jim has -- the only replaced them. Down. Oh former defensive coordinator -- now head coach is reinstated Marc Bulger is rams' starting quarterbacks. -- the latest news going on about. Patriots future opponent on the line arm. I have to admit I don't necessarily have a definitive question of the day today. The reason that I do not is because coming off a bye week. To me there's a lot of different areas that we can go lot of little ways we go without trying to focus on one particular area. I'm kind of asking you. What is on your mind at this team what concerns you right now on this day. On the final day of the month of September 2008 what concerns you the most about the team at it again. Is the -- is Cassell. -- an injury. Is there in consisting in the -- line. It's the overall age of the defense would certainly should be recurring theme from members of the national media. What is. What bothers you about this thing."
[19:03]" After the yeah the four weeks now the team to a one which I talked a little about this last week. And how I've thought that after three weeks I thought this team would -- two and one. And yet nobody feels like this Patriots team is on schedule."
[19:19]" The -- you feel like this team is on schedule we're on schedule for. Now if Tom Brady the quarterback would all be very upset was being 21 there's no doubt. But in light of the fact that he went down in week one. We've all reevaluated where we think this team is now and where it can go everybody's reevaluate. You've got I'm sure you've gone to the schedule and done win lose win win lose lute you've done it just like everybody has done. And you figured out all of that used to be when it may not be now. So everybody has a different. Standard. For this team to live up to. Over this team. To reach the standard that you. Have set or it. What they needed it. Where's the problem. Whereas the trouble where's the weak link. That's good way to freeze it maybe it -- just talking about he would come up with a question initially ordered it is kind of opened up what you thought. [29:19]" Well let's look at this -- used to makes sense. You know who I'm sure -- the other team is quick you don't want to fly cross country. You know twice within a week I think it could -- Romeo. [32:32]" Teacher now. I guess it would probably. I don't know maybe it's on anything for his his comments are not to have some like Vernon Davis speak up they get the ball about like he did after the game on Sunday. What's -- the immediate reaction to it to Davis pulling almost a TO will."
[32:50]" Well this -- is by far the most. The abortion -- temperamental player on the team yesterday he -- from the moment. I don't think it. [33:59]" Sure understood John -- packer for the San Francisco chronicle with a here is that Patriots playbook from Mike Nolan has his team to into. [34:40]" Well I was -- there are two consecutive years of down years out here in. In this the pivotal you for no -- there. That a coach. He's certainly you know bolster the options -- Mike -- is that there could be ultimately work against them -- If the team record is that they're good management. Order of good. Despite the make a move. The first Portland look to is that Mike Martz remarkable what. Let him go he's I'll give proven established. Offensive coordinator in this league you so. That that could be could be -- if you goes on -- It's good team. Successes -- what the ownership wants. Beckett. Good old -- difficult that position."
[35:28]" I suppose it could. Has there been any sort of internal thanks to to your knowledge that march is present might be causing Nolan and if Nolan work to be jettisoned would mark -- candidate to replace him."
[35:42]" Well I think you're as good so the -- he would certainly -- evidence that it becomes. I think the team would go with him first -- they wouldn't wanna. A man of his caliber Q well -- to go to another team. So it's. It was an interesting move to bring him him. It could it probably will change I don't know that dynamic of the the coaching. Situation by the end of the season but it was a joke about you know protect them from a purely. Performance just simply is this going to remove them. That marked on here to resurrect. What had been that the worst offense from the NFL last couple years."
[36:25]" Would you say that marks his presence has. Largely helped JT goes alone to the to the point where he. You know that helped lead the you know you talk about his confidence factor being the biggest improvement has -- present help in that respect do you think."
[36:39]" Ought sure because you know the familiarity. The -- system having been with them. Most recently. You're going Detroit you that that was a very good public sector of the more to the point I think. All the offensive players. Feeling really good about. Having him out there have been -- coordinator. The comments. From the the other offensive players are uniformly. Positive."
[37:05]" Okay -- defensively. I noticed that Patrick Willis had a pretty game this last week. -- even in the loss. Where where else would you consider a bright spot the world would you consider to be a positive. For the 49ers team defensively."
[37:20]" Well coming up so you have a big game in Orlando it was. Really no positives on Mondays and go to the maybe. Just. -- little linebacker play with Patrick Willis and Takeo Spikes. That was at least it is like within that was -- Performance that would be the exception about the role of the way Drew Brees so he -- trip today. What do the -- secondary you that was that was surprising. In which. The long ball -- completed by New Orleans. Until this. The addition of defensive end slash outside linebacker. -- a burger this week for the foreigners Smith put him. Coming from. Definitely. A versatile player can play all on -- their defensive line and the last week there was. A very productive a player looks like he'll be a good addition."
[38:19]" That's -- that's an interesting now. I guess that. The general perspective of the Patriots fan looking at San Francisco this because where a president of the country get a chance to play each other if we're lucky once every four years. Is that there aren't giving people that know lot about averages go with the exception of maybe. Mike Nolan -- coach we got a guy who used to be running you know our scout team as the only quarterback and they haven't been very good recently so because of that in again -- accurate I'm thinking that's is probably. A a general perspective a thing just because of of a lack of knowledge overall is teams are fans begin to sort of educate themselves. What you call the overriding traits characteristic. Of the San Francisco team."
[39:05]" Well you -- Craig gore -- I think one Libya. You know cup. 56. Running to actually. Either you productive player and he's benefiting. From the Mike Martz -- and he's off to way to much better sort of what you're going right. Yeah you know the -- probably about about Craig gore no no. Speak very very highly of him so he's you know established guy in this offense and some. Patrick Willis he's been his second year -- yeah yeah he got a rookie of the year in the league leader -- someone else who is. Certainly should be you know well aware -- right ball handler to you know his contemporary."
[39:52]" Sure what other options -- the Patriots. From. In San Francisco as. It may not maybe maybe going to difficult sort of put your finger on that one of the digits early in the week but. What are the thoughts about the Patriots coming they're --"
[40:07]" What this was what we regained -- Tom Brady played its first game. Mark against the 49ers the only good. I know that was the human being would look forward to a local guy -- all of them plays against the a team he grew up. Admiring mature you know that's that's not going to play now are. It up to to really. All the still refer to of the Joey Porter quotes you could just don't. I think you know you. There was far too much was made that do not controversy at all he we if they -- are different in. Without Tom Brady and that's that's a fair and honest good evaluation. Although. I actually expect the biggest media. No player often by the end of the year does that too much talents. And an organization. Not to not to have a good not to be able to persevere. At least you're giving you a good showing that he would certainly have their talent everywhere in the you know them until where they're regarded as. Just not yet deal. -- judgment in the NFL."
[41:16]" John what would -- what what the pre season. Thoughts about this team what what what would've been considered what would be considered is here for for the 49ers."
[41:28]" Well they don't hook up on them I. My preceding statement -- like over the public. You -- little ones that are important here. One minute of military -- exhibition season. -- if -- that is. Improvement was. It is expected. And boosting. If you're rewarded it's underperformed a year ago. Changes to me that's what -- Mike Martz brought him. You know him. In other Pachulia to produce I -- and what mark to. And keep his job that you knew it was a close to. In the but it meetings with ownership. Yeah got a --"
[42:18]" Yeah safari. John I appreciate the time thanks so much for spending a little bit with a and its good luck to -- and we'll we'll -- Puerto visiting around on the line somewhere. That you've got to junker Crumpler record who covers the a 49ers for the San Francisco chronicle and apologize for the hurried nature of the interview but that he just called back and confirm that he could do the interview which is why we wanted to -- we had all over ducks general we want to."
[42:42]" Let folks know that you know it's important as we try to give the and put together Erik el -- that made his way from you know. PFW headquarters who -- for a minute is that there's there aren't. Yeah we don't buy that I noticed by the -- on Thursday realized that. I'm going to try to be -- pool -- example the right yet I'm and I'm just going to keep getting interrupted by John thing. You know look a little bit more on the -- bartender. Yeah it's no I don't drink before -- but I'd like gentle side to side and well you never know from the spot yeah there and now. I'm so that was pretty good because we torture that we were going to get that this week and they have a big and a lot of vegetable because of the time of mean right now what is 246 here. Well at quarter to -- theirs -- and guys are -- well I don't know we can make that I'm frank Peterson the next week we -- San Diego although -- a better in the past and the now is a little history between the Patriots in the chart -- the other plays -- you know good to get that frankly is it is mentioned with the with with John. I idea. What do we really know about San Francisco other then you know the obvious here's a team that has been pore over the last couple years. They have a first round bust or had a first round -- quarterback in Alex Smith. Again and embattled coach -- before Patriot you know. Practiced seamer running the offense they've got an offensive coordinator that was a failure perhaps the head coach made one of the most stupid blunders in Super Bowl history when he was coaching against the Patriots by the way I mean. You know what else do we really know about San Francisco and."
[44:18]" You know that that the one thing that the that he mentioned in an interview with them and and and went on was that the Tom Brady connection yeah back home come back on this. Number he may never get the chance to play in San Francisco -- against the 49ers next time the comes back around and it does in four years. Eight years you're good friends for years they got to come here so 88 years now that's when I was a -- you'll still be. Playing at all and so with the Patriots and who knows what happening here is actually he's actually going to be out there apparently this week anyway. Apparently of the globe and yeah and PT put picked up that he had his surgery and island via but it does that just that it just struck me as a ironic that. He -- here he got to go home and play in his hometown. And he may never get that chance in you know the schedule works funny you know sometimes you you might get that random game that's not a -- in that rotation where you played -- The the top or the seed that matches your seat right in and so it's possible but. On how likely it is now. But as far as your question what do we know about the 49ers team. You know I think I think kind of learning as we go to -- ago little bit and and the the ones you brought up on the mainland they had to -- the quarterback and a former Patriots practice water leading national now. They have and offensive coordinator who may or may not be their head coach soon but that's how things that's why I asked -- I can tell Dan and around it because I think that's the question people want to know of not known Nolan does -- and I mean that's. US question because you know people with making it may not be the more the world. But if you know the toppled mind. That I ask I think avid -- decent running back like he said he'd listen in the top five or six and rightly or. I don't know -- I don't know why that our -- and so he's been pretty good potential to be there -- they have. They're one of the few teams ever drafted -- tight and in the top ten in Vernon Davis Davis I don't opens mouth this week. I didn't hear about that what would it just was disappointed that only one ball thrown to -- pulled Theo yeah."
[46:17]" You know today and the ball thrown me a little bit more and and then it was the reaction in the San Francisco paper has been all that is Vernon being Vernon. Well. Yeah era Meredith -- that's what I mean -- any influence out there. -- like while we get another one of these and there are just kind of there and it's a non door. That's my idea man you know would we look at a little differently because we've been it would that kind of stuff here over the last several years annulled if that continues. Good kids it's not code -- what -- bad precedent that at any time anybody acts up -- you can just dismiss that is that person being earth. -- well -- based -- past -- to -- told -- Terrell -- same -- this -- Washington -- after -- game because -- ball thrown his -- something -- 1718. -- in -- too -- and -- make -- to complain about -- number -- balls -- especially -- game -- an -- And dollars I think he's an overrated. Physically I don't think there's too much -- John -- for a guy who's supposedly that talented. He dropped human -- well now I will say that I don't think he has the best pains in the oral give you that. If you're that talent are wider sot of that you what's that -- frankly that was kinda catches frankly the musicality of his play I think if you compare. You know that 812 -- 81 in particular team I think -- physical play. Aram is probably. A little bit of an advantage. But I think -- 81 has there hands overall yeah I don't seem loss dropping matches like that no. You know and you know. Usually that's the -- and you know so far I haven't heard him complain that he's only had two catches in the last game know what anybody and everybody could complain you know we've been kind of waiting old Josh Cox what does Randy Moss going to you know when he's going to -- will be right his economic explode. We keep waiting for the media keeps asking about it and keep wondering how he'd do what he's going to get pissed off and the fact that he has done. Maybe he's not going to it will have to wait find out and see how the season progresses whether or not that emotion and that frustration actually bills I thought it was -- early. It's special the Cowboys are three and one they lost again. You know you can see him losing although they were double digit point favorite this week. On and they were playing at home they probably lost -- really -- I really were shocked they'd probably should not lost but what can shut that it was close but struck that they lost but the fact is that they -- going undefeated nobody's going undefeated this year. -- because of that I mean isn't a little bit early. In a little bit ill timed for TO would open up -- get frustrated Oliver yet very much. Especially electricity game where he had the ball thrown his way almost when he time and well. -- me trade me release me. I would if I were very I don't know what you'd have to think about it although he's -- got incredible talent so how much do you put up with. I'm so let me get back to erode. Talking a little bit more about the 49ers here -- what they've done over the for a week here. At a two and two record they opened up with a loss at ten point loss against Arizona. And I think Arizona on even though they got -- this week but the Jets would they get hammered. I kind of collect a little bit of an aberration I really thought Arizona was a better team than what I saw on television on Sunday of its average -- right that game it was 2313 game back on September the seventh and that they had overtime win over Seattle on the road no -- And while I think Seattle because all their injuries to our own right now it's still winning on the road for Mike Cameron is go where nothing is expected. That's good win for them -- they pounded and actually horrid at Detroit team and beat him pretty good by 3113. I can see why. -- go fans. And the 49ers and they'll would be disappointed with the of the egg that they laid against the war is weakened so yeah you know it at two until they've probably consider themselves to be. Somewhat fortunate after four weeks and I'm not sure that anybody out there considers this."
[50:45]" B a W go on and -- on either side. That's true. I'm rusher either team can count it right now put it in the win column probably the team can right now now. While you know San Francisco's. Last year was every -- mountain to not only make the playoffs -- possibly. The Super Bowl contender that fell flat almost as soon as the season started. So I think that's the other statement that they have -- memory now that that if anybody knows anything about them that's what they know like -- we had it that was the -- is supposed to be good last year. And the Houston now they're sort of a 500 coming out of the gates here and I think that probably know what probably about. What should be expected of that of this team at this point by the way -- looking at the 49ers notes here. It appears that the former Patriots going to be activated for the first time this year Tully banta Cain you know. Looks like he'll be able to play against former team and we have JT O'Sullivan camp and Tully banta Cain. So what -- on both sides of the ball down an ego and little intrigue on both sides of the ball on Sunday. Well you know what it's worth telling banta Cain. In this system when he was a Patriot. Was used properly and was and they got the most out of -- so you know especially for a guy who was one of those guys that. Had a hard time sticking in the beginning with active practice -- was on and off. And then finally he made some contributions before he signed for the big money and and went back with home. His home state in his hometown basically it was cal Bears right so that's basically dormitory -- grew up. Interest -- the other guy JT -- same -- guy who couldn't stick anywhere in the findings on home but. I don't think of banta Cain has kind of lived up to the expectations when I'm that big deal going in to a San Francisco and yeah with some -- players know that's that's that's. Trite expression of people like news but. I think in in like cases true that's points Houston and Polly's case. He was used well on the system I don't know if he's in exactly the via the right fit. Defensively in Indy and San Francisco. Willie minute to ensue I don't know if anybody actually took a glance at this today. 49ers -- in first place in the NFC west. Well if you're -- Going to have a chance that you went through that the division you want to I was about the knife so -- the Rams are horrible and and and John protect -- from the chronicle just told us you know the expectation here of the team. Is to finish -- 500 or better from Mike Nolan to save his job this year. Right now you have -- there on -- On course. And thankful that you're right that it probably residing in the division which they are simply because they'll have -- think they they're 500 right I mean like -- Seattle their injuries they're sort of not playing up to expectations I don't know that the -- vehemently this year I mean they're just they're. Of that play St. Louis is one of the most atrocious teams at this point don't know who knows maybe has that can turn things around they're still. Twelve games left in the season and and how good or bad is Arizona. Yet you know after they'd be destroyed mania I think it was in week to put up the 31 points and held Miami Felix. Less than a touchdown third and one -- ten yeah 3110 him. At the time we all thought well at Miami but it looked good doing it and as we found out Miami's not maybe as bad as everyone thought they that's why. That's not looking at 5635. This week it was like what the heck is that yeah as as impressive as their offense was. Moving up and on the field scored touchdowns their defense was equally are oh man. That was it was I mean they could have. They score many points they scored 35 in -- yet you should you should win game you can win well thirty love yeah. 28 you should win games sure most games yeah. So. It's it's disappointing their offense I think is doing well under Warner they're putting up the points their defense is what's what's the problem right now. While."
[54:40]" I'm just I've on the whole thing. Just kind of bizarre I'm talking about the Cardinals in the leaves the 49ers in a pretty good situation there -- into. You know -- home game for them so I'm sure they feel like we we have at least an opportunity to -- You know willow put ourselves on the right track again and all the better to try to do it against a team that while folk you know still think -- a playoff -- John -- at that. This expectation of the Patriots is for the -- done. That this team will will be in the playoffs. Regardless of the that the change in overall the you'll. With Tom Brady being on my in the -- counseling and well let's say Seattle goes down the road. Been going down over par St. Louis continues on the road who else's. In that division. It's Arizona really that it that's it that's it that your competition so. It's a one it's the two teams going against each other if things continue as there are and now 500 could win a division it could. All -- and nine could win that it is possible that Nate when the division like a couple of years ago. That particular division I think so. Might have been within the last two or three years -- one that was division we need Russell Baxter you know you know -- little on Thursday. What over the program -- Filipino Patriots football weekly as with a today it's not Thursday it's Tuesday below -- It's a little under the weather didn't Pomona I guess what I had to expletive is that right he didn't come in today. -- all holiday. The division was won was the NFC west was one with a nine and -- record them. On and then in another year of the wild car I think it's any -- 48 it was a while -- or an 88 record. Certainly is -- playoff hunt now it can get a player for the wildcard I'd I'm not sure it's ever happened. Division. The divisions have ever been so pour. -- any has gotten division. Like that there was."
[1:00:49]" That was a distinct possibility and in one or both those years that were mentioned until they turn down the -- and ninth but that. It would have perhaps potentially won that division and it turned out that -- yeah which is remarkable calm. I don't think anybody should be allowed to be in the playoffs publisher at least Tuesday night. -- me you know something. To regulate -- well it is tough to regulate number one number two. You know the NFL does have a little bit tougher road -- Teams in the profession what -- we have only twelve year you know 32 teams making the post or the idea that was exploded during the the combine this past year and -- in the offseason was. The upcoming owners' meetings at that time was maybe potentially re seeding. The playoffs so that if you're Nate Nate division winner -- your attendance. Six earned on eleven and five wild card card. You get as a wild card with a better record got the home game I actually liked that idea yeah. The argument against it what they ultimately didn't pass because of it was they said well. You could be in a really tough division and your beating up on on year. I -- division opponents and you go about 500 in your division -- about 500 against anyone else. And you feared a weaker division maybe -- 106 because are eleven to five because you're playing against lesser competition. That's why they gave it he had said the division winner because they felt ultimately suffered when your own division and -- pilot that's -- a record you know how hard can that want to be too I can kind of see it but I think. There has to be some sort of human element factored in to say look you know when a team. Is brilliant batting Nate Timor they're in a in a division that's really tough and owning it because of that you can tell who's a better team."
[1:02:31]" Generally generally speak by the end of the year and into the regular you should be able to tell who -- yeah I kind of agree with it which is one of the reasons why I think maybe they should -- after the playoff -- wanted to you know to even yeah. I agree with I just think. It does open the door to have teams who wouldn't. Normally have a home game if they don't get its compliance there who were you to say that -- on the flip side -- last year we -- a Cleveland team -- fix that for all practical regional was played as well as anybody at the end of last regular season and missed out of the playoffs right yeah I felt they -- last year but. They needed to win one more game and didn't do so in others an example -- and welcome playing pretty well within your division and missing -- so there's going to be a way to kind of even out yet you've got to get in the dance again. You know -- is responsible for that but. You know the 49ers. Would say. What do they win or lose this Sunday. If they can keep their head right at the break even mark than they should be competitive right to the very end in terms of the potential -- winning the NFC west. And that's as good as anyone else that's the idea that they lead this year that -- the way the your breaks out so. Our armed to the emails a year Johnny and Ireland. I know it's -- to be thinking about these things -- how many of the starting Patriots do you think will make it to this year's Pro Bowl. Pretty early yeah he does is -- three male mall and Hobbs. Guys don't agree -- the good work Johnny in Ireland. I have to I take the fifth on the I don't even know that I can make your first of all. I think you can get an accurate picture on the team. Until you get into the second half of the season on -- to go bye week eight brad I think you need at least it to go we gave bye bye week for. Which you play four games I think you sort of have an idea. Which direction the team. -- we K nine like you said I think you have a better understanding of of what type of team you have at that point. It is too tough at this juncture and you know I mean it's only a quarter of the season that's gone by. You still have now why don't follow that I don't know that there's anybody on the Patriots right now that I would say that even. Worthy of mention after having what was it 89 probe or eight pro bowlers -- now. But he could you legitimately anybody right now is I mean maybe someone like Ty Warren. Maybe someone like Vince Wilfork John don't think you can say that annual NFL is worthy of the pro now now I think you know which you don't -- you're idea seems like. Artistic that the teams that are -- Peter and Buffalo and Tennessee for now at this point that's impressive. But how many times have we seen teams go for maybe five you know finish the season innate or work -- worse. You know it's just way too early to talent and guys were playing well right now and can do horrible for the next. Twelve games ten games and all of a sudden what looked like a great start this season is a horrible finish so it just. I know I know I understand the the person who wrote in once the you know try to make try to -- look I bet they look look at positive performances. And who they played well thus far and in in who you know is going to surprise all the kind of stuff but. It should surely just so hard I mean. Have there been positive -- sure -- if you. And -- is certainly want to throw Jerod and I mean the fact is -- team in tackles fact is we haven't talked much about him but it's probably because he's doing his job. It's -- you know he's right there filling every expectation. And maybe then some that this team had for him he made it. You -- junior shall expendable. Field. Well. I really believe that -- coming back until until. I still think there's a chance well if somebody gets hurt I -- there's a chance if somebody gets hurt yeah. If they lose it and -- linebackers somewhere to injury. If Bruce goes down -- goes down owners or what I mean somebody would have to go down. And that I think he would come back and a -- I still think there's a chance that that happens it's still early enough in the game and then in the season and that's possible. But -- that I think. Has lived up to that. Expectation and hype that that associated with him about the in the tenth pick in the team obviously has some success and can compete. You know for the division championship then you'd have to at the Mayo could be potentially contender and on the -- for in -- defensive rookie of the year. Yeah again it's early it's way too early start thinking about that but if if the trend continues I haven't really seen any other defensive rookies at this point. Or standing out that much but he was standing outings were talking about it and frankly he's he's he's. Well he's been out of the spotlight he's been and there are basically every -- which certainly I think you know worthy of mention of this dog absolutely."
[1:07:18]" At Olympic people warning mature he was gonna start. The season he's he's he's definitely a little panning the pick when they were drafted in at number seven while I EI think you'll get that every year that no matter who you pick -- Had a chance to to meet with him today actually which is rare because Tuesday is their players' day off beaten. But he's in here pretty much every Tuesday watching film on a day off on his day off getting a quick work out and doing the extra things that he feels. Are necessary to be what he he wants to be and he has said he wants to be great. And I think. Just that is a few minutes that the talked to him today he yeah he gave me that impression I'm I've talked to a few times before but."
[1:08:01]" You really can tell that he is serious. About his job. And and about becoming a better player he's he mean and you don't see any other players coming in on Tuesday they. Once a while maybe you do but he's consistently here on Tuesday he told me. This is his life this this this is what he loves to do. And he's he's young he's in great position he's on a team with great veterans great coaches. And I think that those those dividends are are are paying off rather quickly and you can see this is an an easy defense to learn John and he's a rookie. Via his college coach. Position coach Don Davis at Tennessee was also there. I'm defensive coordinator dean. When the Patriots drafted him had a chance to -- to -- about. Male. And that the thing that stands out to me even six months later from that interview with he said. I was asked him you know about his his work ethic and his dedication of -- I think and he said listen. If -- came back to Tennessee today and wanted to coach the linebackers he could do a better job about it and I -- while. Which go which tells you something coming in in -- coaches like to talk. In hyperbole about them their players sometimes but. When you actually see what the kid has done. This to the far in his career here and the amount of the amount of snaps he's gotten a play in the the production he's had it's easy to see why John Davis had something like that because the kid has produced. And the way he had. There when he takes that dedication that the becoming better and and wanted to study and wanting to learn from the the veterans on this team and you know it's again too early exit to say that he's rookie of the year or -- down but he certainly."
[1:09:48]" On the right track as well. That's very Coca author. Now bomb he. If I were in this is what is the next which if -- next week's PFW -- in particular now is this is more make a focus on him or just -- what's up with -- type of thing and now he's. You know basically adapting to professional -- well we wanted to do feature on on. We got Terrence -- few weeks ago about a month ago he was the second round pick we wanted to try to do as many of -- Rookies as we could eventually receive higher and higher excellence who made the team and this was actually record or his idea he he said you know we should try to let's give him credit wind yeah we absolutely agree that case it was to try to try to convince to -- to try to get us to go and it would normally watch film Monday and is Tennessee the whole process of what involved in and the time he takes and you know just that and and also it's a great time after four weeks. You know we played all pre season or training camp and into the kind of -- the you know how we feeling in general. As he hit the rookie has hit the rookie he actually used that that -- self he brought that up thing you know at this point play for pre season games have played. Three regular season games we had a bye weeks at least eight weeks into it he's getting ready -- in this season what is not set up right now aren't they can what kind of bowl game we're going to go out and got Tennessee that's about exactly right that's what they're thinking about -- later. You know really trying hard not to hit that rookie wall. You know which. Had a tough coming in and they often work on watching film but you know he's -- when you talk to you can tell his mark -- mark player. And I don't think he's going overboard. With what he's trying to do he's playing it smart you know he's not here you know twelve hours on -- off and he's coming he's getting his work them. -- he's been smart about it I've known isn't. The threat that you'll burn yourself out too quickly. But does so far haven't seen any evidence and he seems to be doing everything right ways and -- things that. Looks like by all accounts the Patriots -- their. Did did he enjoy every chance to talk him any at all about Powell you know and this on them that we've actually had you know fans here in India in message boards all over the place talk about how. They could really. Have been hit or miss proposition in the draft as the talking all but the pressure -- being the number one pick especially a lot of fact that you know there have been several. I picks in recent vintage that haven't panned out. Well we didn't talk about that the exact topic today but he's addressed that in the past the -- you know high expectation being a top ten pick in coming here and I think guy he said it best when when he he answered it by saying look I just want to be great. Doesn't matter where he was drafted. His whole idea coming into the NFL as I want to be the best -- can be and the best I can be I feel is that level. And so I think he I think. Pressure. In almost all cases -- itself exerted so the deserted him if you don't put the pressure on yourself or if you challenge yourself doesn't matter now thanks. And I were and I think he's I think he's kind of taken that approach and look if he wants to be great if you put enough pressure on himself he knows what he can deal with the money can't. So. I'm."
[1:13:02]" I don't think -- wars too much about what anyone else says and I think that's the right approach that they can I think all as coaches -- profits on the same thing don't worry about the outside distractions. Worry about your your job your assignment what you have to do in this meeting in the practice in this game. Don't worry about what anyone else things in -- specifically about his fellow rookies on the Patriots team. He talked a little bit about how his in his position there a couple of rookie linebackers. And that their position coach Matt Patricia. Is very dedicated and take an extra time -- may be even half hour before and after meetings. When the rest of the veteran linebackers often do their thing that he stays with them. To put the time in necessary to get them up through a paean to get into the level of comfort me fielding need to get out of their rookies at this point and because like we said John it's. It's not the easiest defense to learn as you can -- by. Now they're been given veterans who've come in who had similar. Recently and not so recently have come in and and aunt had a familiarity with the 34 and and even with this particular 34. And haven't had quite the success that drug Mayo said so far. So I think it's a testament not only to him. But just -- so does the coaching staff and personnel department does that to make that pick and say look we we're going to take a guy number ten. Where like you said they've gotten grant for some of their picks in the past but they felt really good about this one and I think they've hit on it. You know."
[1:14:29]" You've covered and along the draft is adamant that even in the always always -- Tom -- round. Yeah I mean you can argue that that was of -- That the baker should've done a better job and and take them early or -- victim now and maybe that they'll evidence that Kevin O'Connell getting drafted in the third round maybe maybe that Selleck -- we noticed it is going to be good. Maybe we knew we know but we know some little taken -- fourth or fifth from that we need to take him and now we got the extra third round pick China. Lineup that's the risk that you take yeah absolutely maybe in a normal yet when the taken and that high in the third only -- Shawn Crable Bryant there was that whoa wait for the fourth and try to thicker but they had their the third maybe they figured what the heck yeah. Let's get him now the draft it's OI mean. Even even the blue chip pursuant up in the top. Top ten -- or even or -- in their look at what was it. 99 was the year I think that it was a McNabb and Cade McNown. Redick immaculate Smith you know like five quarterbacks that -- their first round picks him I mean emotionally. 12. Yeah. It was a lot of my head and the amid some. Yeah it's true that yeah and those guys are considered as different import of blue -- block out right so. You know. For fans as well yeah the Patriots haven't hit alone -- Overall I think they do a decent job of drafting yet at least right now you have is well pretty much in Wales look at last year's draft. -- was really the only one in mind that. That draft and admittedly that was more moves than it that was mormons and have but I think going in I think you could tell just from the body language in my some of the things that were said it. It wasn't really the greatest draft the Patriots -- really weren't excited about anybody in particular in that -- contractual and some drafts are like that. -- draft particularly deep on drives don't have quarterback -- lousy for running back on drafts are explosive I mean just the right and some years one particular position isn't really is as heavy as another and maybe you need that particular position and if it's not a heavy -- that draft. And you don't have the the pick where you can get that player you -- I like going to a grocery the world where you know the -- is going to get restock right you know throughout your favorite brand of coffee. Is that the draft does not. Obviously look if if the pats had been high enough and he was still available I think it would taken Patrick -- last year. And Patrick Willis over the 49ers hill as a rookie -- is one of the reasons why I asked John prep record about it because he seems to be having previous year and I think even -- lost the last week he did you know my intact I think for the -- and I think that Bears itself out when they had a similar pick this year. Had a similar -- and then when when a guy who was this as even bell Bill Belichick said this week is a very similar player there -- a lot of similarities between male and Patrick Willis. Young fast and explosive hard hitting guys who have mark in if you get Willis last year you don't get meal this year most likely. Yeah most likely -- right. If so turns out like that but I think he -- in that you know -- you know the thing but either way there would have ended up with a good young linebacker. At some point you either way if either way you billion up with a good -- very very true I heard this story about a drug me."
[1:17:42]" Look for in the next week's edition armed. Christian from Boston is he really -- the end of east guys what do you think about it is Dallas overrated. Why did they only run eleven times in the game. Where it was Felix Jones. This Creighton bleep are the Giants the best in that division. I would like Dallas is overrated although as you can talk about it I want the whole game much much Graham because -- Dallas in my survival cool. I'm -- thank you very much we all worked -- yeah it's. You know what don't. I mean we had almost I think -- last week and almost 800 people involved. In this pool that that I was involved in and after the Cowboys got beat this week after four weeks -- how many are left. Of 800."
[1:18:28]" Wondered about our -- Unbelievable while nobody can predict a there was no it has been by a week eight yeah. Yeah. -- pretty quickly while pretty quickly I mean it's amazing just. Little things are in the league and you just can't. Accurately predict you're on the -- I'd like -- her listeners if you had a good way. To. You know. Play the games as the case is active for little on your orders in week week nudge nudge Levine. We got a system got a formula. Love to hear it. Because I don't think there is one -- you can look at the odds you can go on line into all the ESPN insider stuff you can subscribe to that you know the tout -- whatever. It doesn't matter got to Dallas Dallas was a universal double digit pick at home against Washington week. And they got beat I got a thread for what. Visceral gut go with your -- every time I. I know but what was Mike got I got paid. But I couldn't pick against them. I wanted to -- the Cowboys wanted to go play ordered that another team but I got was right there that your -- saying -- critical someone else but you didn't you went with whatever one was thing and it it was over Cowboys originally it was overwhelming there was no -- actually. And I win it again because there was no other choice for me to make the Cowboys staying there you know like elected or improbable all the --"
[1:19:54]" Well I agree that -- they're going to boulder it's in now but. I don't answer Christians question I don't think they're overrated I think there. I think there are the best team in the NFC's then the NFC's is probably at this point the toughest division. In football right now and audio on the -- teams are competitive I don't Tuesday all four teams are are are in the on day. I I do think Dallas is the cream of the crop -- talent wise. And the Giants. I still think they're kind of in -- honeymoon stage with having on the Super Bowl I think they're going to come down to earth at some point. But. Look I didn't expect Washington to be as competitive as they were missing after an inning against the Giants in week one. I -- Campbell continues to impress me get him better he knows he was he was sharp who's an inventor and -- and Clinton Portis had you know I'm like I'm chilling for Dallas tackler. Well I mean that was yeah I mean they could not tackle the guy and now I could not tackle I saw probably about. Beisel I saw most of that game I was sort of was and the TV I was reading on an often you know kept looking up and act -- And there in the fourth quarter of San house Dallas -- not when in the game. In your head Pickering and it's got away from Santana Moss was catching since animals when not when you're crazy he has great games in the past you know it's it to take -- Cowboys against the the Eagles -- You -- Brian Westbrook long as he stays healthy that team has a chance. Mean that he's he is that offense out of I -- other UC 32 in division I playoffs. Yet -- yeah especially when you have -- horrible west divisions what I mean you have via the I'm not sure is going to come on the essentially that'd -- on dissent that the north and the the central and the south third or -- yeah. I'm thinking if -- into the south I think -- in south. -- south I'd say that I'm going to go to war Owens went in the south probably Carolina's looks likely want an airline North Carolina in Tampa bay. I really don't think there -- decorated team in in the playoffs last year but I don't think they deserve to be in the playoffs last year."
[1:22:00]" Who also have there Atlanta Atlanta. Rookie quarterback. Not going to happen this year so yeah I I think it's entirely possible three of those -- could happen going to happen certainly."
[1:22:13]" Speaking of well you know watching game through the weekend. Alejandro says did you watch games all over the -- try to stay away from football during the bye week."
[1:22:23]" I watched I was good question I watch the Arizona Jets game. That was the first game that I have in my market. And the Iowa that I had the Cowboys game what that has had pitcher pitchers -- my parents -- Digital in my house and you can't get the term picture. Are we had -- the Denver KC game on Eaton which turned out to be eaten. You know pretty game in which and that was going to be but I I was at any time or two games on -- picture picture doesn't matter where he was gone by him right. I had on I was reading the newspaper it to its most things but. -- I was actually on Saturday. Great day for college football and he loves Saturday's it doesn't matter by a weaker not."
[1:23:06]" Actually there I was very happy that it rained this week because I've I've my time it was over. I today. I hit the Friday -- UConn will insulated and come back on Saturday. Normally my simply ball baseball's going to go to his games on the weekends. And that was a delusion around here all -- nothing and so because of the rain and lightning on his game is rained out I can watch football on Saturday. And I thought the same thing about -- because you know without right -- wasn't any pressing need it right you know because you know it's always like my wife always gives me you know crap for like -- part of your week -- work yeah you know which it is. But the analogy you always -- kind of garbage from your significant other and frankly I was looking -- watching football without the pressure haven't of you know yeah exactly I think it's really pay attention same way yeah you watch football differently when you're not watching yes that right Mora. It's more enjoyable to target back. And watch it that way more fun actually they're taken out of the bag assures and you when you have. Right sometime toward about looking away for a second could not what I meant something happens like what I meant an NCA you don't he would that well on the replay. This -- when your home and you're not really concentrating you can just. But it was a great read a lot of upsets in the NFL to. You know of the volatility is continues to him. Continues to be rather impressively. Oh era what's going -- as a new and exciting I mean you you really don't know. Like -- year you're knock you really don't know. Who's going to win the week right. Even in games like Dallas -- when you think it that's why lighted you know I'm going to -- for punishment get a chance again -- another knockout pool. Right at mid season that to a mid season one in the group that -- with. They started -- it started that now they have a better idea Ortiz are and -- probably should've waited just jump in on that one but obviously the lead the rewards on down the line or greater if you give him at the first. For entertainment for corridors of a great I -- Look at Jefferson is -- notices if you're Romeo Crennel. Would you put queen and over Anderson right now. I'm Romeo Crennel I was about 200 pounds first hole and I can -- on that now right. On c'mon what we do it into another mile mile -- the PFW guys because I know I'm so. I felt like I had to -- shot penalties. -- know. Well. No question he's really Huskies with Derek Anderson a flash in the pan yeah."
[1:25:39]" You know when you draft a quarterback that high as they do with Quinn. Really only a matter of time no matter how well that other quarterback is playing before -- guy get him. I mean look what happened with Philip Rivers in San Diego and Drew Brees who was playing out of his mind by the time they drafted Philip Rivers but you know what. Who's the quarterback in San Diego now. Philip Rivers the other center breeze out -- why they invested a first round pick. In Drew Brees in in Philip Rivers. Any time it it's a similar situation I think in Cleveland where you have a guy who was playing well when they drafted the rookie. With the number one pick for their first round pick. Derek Anderson just happen to be playing all the time and you couldn't really say well we're going to Yankee now. Because they had that they had a chance and they should have made the playoffs last year with Derek Anderson as a quarterback you. But it's rare that are. Rookie quarterback even a first round. Rookie quarterback is going to start right away Matt Ryan is an exception Drew Bledsoe was an exception their you know there are exceptions. But guys like. Steve McNair for a and Loaiza was the first round quarterback pick but he set for 34 years yeah -- and learn for awhile and even had Olympic career after that but. I just think when you when you draft a player that high at that position. If there's a quarterback controversy that guy who gets drafted. Is going to get is going to win out every time."
[1:27:05]" Sure eventually generally yeah. Because nobody wants to be as you suggested I mean nobody wants to be wrong. Bush with a quote unquote franchise player like the quarterback obviously -- It -- it's a matter of time -- takes over. You do with the way that the Browns have struggled to this point in time frankly. The way that I would answer that question is you know Anderson had a devilish league year last year. Even if you don't think that he kind of caught lightning in a bottle if you even if you for -- you know enough to where you think he kind of quote unquote snapped out of it. I think because of the way the team is right now you need to keep this what if your head coach that you got to look at the bigger picture. -- gotta play PR director here a little bit. It -- you know they'd be your job could also be on the line what could it hurt by putting Brady Quinn in the and the answer is I think very little. Yeah I think they're coming close that point when you realize -- Well that way too much longer. I I don't think they're going to that's my point I think look ever since Quinn got drafted. The buzz has been when you're gonna start. You know let Charlie Frye saw the writing on the wall he left town and and went to Seattle is -- the good you know Brady -- got these commercials altered those commercials for like. Athletic wear and he does want to think for a row. And proponent water or drinks drinks or something that and so -- on a treadmill or something and I'm in there with my thirteen on the -- Brady -- got these commercials even even play now that was what it right. In -- well. I yeah -- yeah I think he's still a big enough name and the people realize that he's going to play right at some point maybe even very soon he's still a marketable commodity right now I -- that I think."
[1:28:45]" You McNair is a perfect example of that you draft a guy in the first round to be your quarterback maybe your not a rush to get him in there. And when you have the luxury to say okay fine. You go in their now you can do it here discretion and I think the way Anderson has played -- given Cornell that option to say our Brady. You're going to be the quarterback we know he's going to be the quarterback eventually but for now. This is what's better for the team and you know some rookies respond better to being thrown into the fire than others I think Quinn could've handled it last year -- Had to. But I don't think it hurt either that he. Had to wait a little while and thinks of and you know who knows maybe it helped fire. Fire him up a little bit that when he finally does get the chance Sylvia. -- them much more determined who knows."
[1:29:32]" Todd does this email what they are there any running backs in the history of the league that didn't start out their careers great. He Susie Maroney isn't great now he's never going to be."
[1:29:43]" The question. Often. Commitment upon I guess I guess again you know as -- and any injury it is like kind of pondered that is to write about. Great running backs in the history of the unifil that they not start out great or did they gradually get better right I can do is point. My my short back developed a quarter yes and a running -- would develop between great running back my initial. A reaction is that those there're probably you. Trying to that would be considered a great running back that didn't start out like."
[1:30:20]" the great question and while. It's generally to go back news researcher can only go by the teams that I -- which were -- with the Cowboys in the Oilers. On the label that great they all had great running back started out there and Calvin hill for the Cowboys. Between Thomas started out great didn't end up great but he started out great. Obviously Earl Campbell for the Oilers and was it starts away with -- starter right away he was great. Come. About someone like I really known that that well in post career but Otis Anderson. Most with the Cardinals ended up with a giant -- and I don't look at -- out of -- pick I don't know that it but it can -- great great runs I had that in my -- but I think somebody who didn't improve as as time went on her to became more valuable to Kenya as time went on maybe maybe his is veteran in this. The Patriots haven't Antowain Smith. You know by the time he wound up by the time he was done he was better I think serviceable back. And I wouldn't call him a great back but I'd say he was it was a very good. He I think he had peaks and valleys he started off very strong in Buffalo as a rookie. And and obviously sank because that that that when he released him. I had the resurgence here in new England and the right system at the -- time I think that's why then more -- is welcome here not not but it was a bad guy or anything but he would he would. He would. Played out his potential I think he wasn't getting into what they're going to get and it felt -- he -- something better and obviously. They made the trade for Corey Dillon right in the obvious that -- network brutal situation right but -- like -- question here. You know I think the largely. Well it doesn't certainly mean that a for running back doesn't start out great that he will never -- What I think is is that if a running back that there -- great in the two."
[1:32:11]" Get better and hopefully can mature. He's got to beat them in the system that allow him and to utilize his talent their full capability now. To that I can't. Is Laurence Maroney in the system that allowed him. To utilize what talent he has to their fullest extent I would argue right now no. Why. First of all the Patriots need Corey Dillon -- to do what they do. I think that from pretty will documented in the they've they have the third down option. In Kevin Faulk -- they need the smaller shift your back they've used him and used him well. I think was already this year to a limited extent that the Patriots are better suited going between the tackles when LaMont Jordan in anymore is banged away inside. Lawrence Maroney can't do that and whether or not he doesn't want to -- not physically capable or he's not durable enough and I argued. He's not durable and that's my my greatest reward tomorrow I don't think physically. But he's going to be able to stand up to the rigors of being an every down back for this team the Patriots need to -- the bigger stronger. Franchise -- In my estimation to fill the role that -- that a tailback should be Corey Dillon was incredible success -- for a year year and a half Antowain Smith was incredibly successful because he was fulfilling that role we save that in 2000 when Bill Belichick got here. Laurence Maroney is not. -- properly for the role that the Patriots would like him too. Why do you think that is I. Again because I don't think Maroney is the go between the tackles hit the hole kind of guy I mean I mean why you think -- If that's the case if what you're saying it's okay why. And he was a first round pick gives -- What was -- about him do you think that they saw that led -- completely could be other -- his first. I think this is ability in college to hit the hole. I think -- all you know he's breakaway speed. I don't think what they they I don't think what the plot. Was that he would not be has not be durable I thought he would be. About maybe. They figured that he would be. Less. Development yeah that they could develop him to beat that kind of back. Put weight on him hopefully you know getting getting getting to their their program where he could beat. Hey Corey Dillon with speed and you know and with though the ability and we shot out of a cannon you don't hit the whole -- it is -- dancing around a lot and he just doesn't go you know -- field we supposed to do. -- just -- they took a shot based on his talent what he portrayed at Minnesota. I don't think turning into what they felt like he could turn into him. Just an observation it's one man's opinion ball."
[1:35:02]" It's a great question typos though because it it gets me thinking. That position isn't like quarterback or wide receiver where. You can have the luxury of sitting for a few years and developing. Behind someone else well whereas you know wide receiver you can be the third wide receiver. On a team and work your way work your way up to -- one of the two but quarterback you can you know have the luxury of sitting behind a veteran learning an offense running accurate either in it or you're not you're not. And if you're not. Chances are you're not going to be in it for awhile. If if you're if you're the number two behind a starter that's why Eric that's why when he came to the draft couple years ago -- had a choice of picking backs. And I don't know where he was picked but I thought of the perfect choice for the Patriots. --"
[1:35:55]" He went to Tennessee. Pretty good. Boy I think he might go let -- know he he slipped behind Maroney. Judy I believe they'll. You -- can you look up LenDale White draft position. For years ago I'm pretty sure that he was picked after Moroni. But I thought at the time that LenDale White would in the perfect Patriot because what he's doing right now for Tennessee -- what he. Actually you know he started off very slow and he did he do it had -- problems he had his problems initially and he's starting to he's starting to have all the potential that we saw at UNC and where you received he was. He was nominal let them animals like USC was a man amongst boys that combination of the backfield in the bush kristallnacht. I'll well there again and South Korea this -- I -- I you know that when you look at it on paper they shouldn't elder should that they don't know now all without 12 punch line and quarterback. The speed ahead and got a college team a lot that around that should have been able to stop them yet -- defense Odom down at defensive stop Vince Young should have that. -- that fourth down run and after the touchdown. Remarkable are orderly got -- and -- it was 845 point four spots I suspect second round yet there yet that's right now maybe maybe they felt like pick LenDale White at that age was not you know. Of value pick. But based on what we've seen now who would you rather have."
[1:37:22]" It's a tough call because. I still think Maroney has the ability to be I feature back -- Eric I agree."
[1:37:30]" Anyway you there I think he's got the ability."
[1:37:33]" Were all waiting for him to show it I think he can stay hell week long enough they showed the ability he Agile."
[1:37:40]" Well. There's that but there's also -- he's on this team where. Even without Tom Brady you have a prolific passing offense again not the right for his talent I suggested earlier. I don't know where that spot would -- to be honest with. The Patriots need a -- I suppose I'm struggling with this because. -- given -- the benefit -- doubt that -- he's -- Minnesota he -- three man rotation -- he's -- he's -- good -- all the -- no problems -- trying to look at it from -- Minnesota -- with Marion Barber -- I think -- three man -- first -- together -- two years ahead -- he was rotating with Corey -- last year Sammy -- came -- until he got -- working well you know. Then you got hurt and and I'll -- a lot of times -- now he's got now is as basically a five man rotation. He's hurt again well. And now I know how long he's out on the field is to get a -- on the guy. It Drew had that been the frustrating part and he's admitted it though that. He never really had injuries reported worry about it ever since has gotten in the NFL he's had to deal with these nagging injuries that kept them out and kept him from getting -- momentum. I think we saw the last six games last year when he put up those 400 yard games. There and in the regular season potential playoff I think that's what the Patriots dog when they draft okay all of that ability I'll buy that -- day. And hit the hole in the line can hold their blocks along enough for him to hit that hole yet they north south rather than the east -- crap that he does. That I think he's got the potential to be right there and beat the kind of -- the Patriots hoped he would be but it has happened with -- and he can write at all and I was hoping that after that. You know and he means that it -- in the off season those last few games gave him a momentum that he wanted to carry forward into the season. And your right you can't keep them momentum going to turn on the on the field. You know 100% healthy right right but it is unfortunate but I question I thought it was great question I want us to think about -- more because. There has to be a case where a running back didn't start on great right K and -- very very. Very good it even even if not great but at least consistent reliable. Someone did you know dependable. It's a great question -- have to think about it more -- to go back in the -- history. I'm only know the NFL films because -- question visually. You know I'm -- good when the consider while it's great a great question consider an -- to stop coming -- all the great back -- come up with basically started out that way. Well and they had a chance to that's the thing like us saying it. Either. If you're a rookie running back you're either on a team that needs -- right away where you're sitting behind a guy -- if you're sitting behind a guy. Or five years later when you finally get that chance. The I don't know deposition is there a position to do that -- you know."
[1:40:49]" So I think that might be part of the problem. Well let's think about more."
[1:40:53]" Interest. From this from comes from mom Scott. In Shepherdstown West Virginia as well just think -- possible and Anquan Boldin wants out of Arizona but the pass on him and conine in the reload the -- to make of the pushed with the liberals Brady will be back. I think is very possible on him to one year deal and see how works out but this revelation becomes true could the pats be more dominant than last year's team. Kind of -- with Moss and yeah Washington and non. Donte' Stallworth -- that I loved ones -- national deals I think Anquan -- is a he's okay by the -- he -- he -- okay. In fact after that hit we have hit him right after the if in fact I heard this morning."
[1:41:34]" That if the doctors given the OK he'll let them play this week off with amazing that it. That he took in by the way it is fine bench with proper. I don't think it was done on purpose yeah but -- helmet to helmet you know I am glad the NFL's making the case here before we -- the direct question about him coming -- and -- just want to make a point. In that game and seeing that hit. When it happened. Less than thirty seconds left Nicky -- was. I paralyzed I felt like Tony I thought he might have paralyzed when they cut the stretcher on and in the removing any extremities or anything and I got pretty scared that he might have been. But what bothered me more. Wasn't so much I mean hit. It's tough to say that the guy was intentionally trying to hit him in the head. I think -- right line and a suspension where proper because that you want to set the message that you have what do you intended it or not that's not what we're looking for right you have to try to think about that -- but what bothered me more was that. The Cardinals decided to run two more plays after that and throw the ball. I think at that point in the game you know they had no chance they had absolutely no chance with 27 seconds left in the game. The score two touchdowns kick daddy you know they were coming back Clinton they weren't going to win that game. A player you didn't know at the time but he could have been paralyzed -- at least had something of a broken bone in his neck or something. At that point in the game wanted to just kneel. On the ball to kneel on the ball. And the game right there. You -- you're sitting around in the circle everyone's got their helmets off their praying for this -- their thoughts are obviously not on the game. There on their teammate even the even the guys -- the Jets were joining in that why not just on the and they me via that's why did you have to -- and and if you're going to run two plays one out run the ball. Which isn't in effect kneeling on -- But you threw two more passes after a guy just got his head taken off you want to throw downfield to more time. After when you guys is going to had taken off almost a pair of point one pages kneel down to point I don't know I was I thought it was. Maybe it's me being a little over sensitive but I thought that was not the right thing to do at that point it's not like they were trying to win a game and it was meaningful game was over. It was done yeah we're coming back there was no need for them to do that right. I'd I'd just been dead but that's the point I digress there not a potential candidate Chris but what we do well here. New musical at UW in digress there."
[1:44:03]" Eric that a funny looking at the inaugural Marlins going on the fact that he does not only not. Usually comes and a half and only two years right at the via W a tiger -- at that."
[1:44:16]" But the question -- can we see and humbled and coming here. Sure and especially I would love it I'm -- just suggesting he's affect obviously physical receiver I think it would be -- I think it is slam -- he wants out of a team that hasn't -- historically one night. He wants to win right -- come to a team that who knows what's going to happen this year. Certainly don't when it certainly seems to me I think you know the Patriots have enough under contract aware. Com they've certainly have to be considered competitive sure you're with -- back healthy and and you know. Maybe he's looking for a longer term deals any one year conditional tryout and -- Neifi with a picture of me to have to bring in guys like hey you know right here prove your health or talking about a -- that. And yeah I think that's a great scenario -- like it got like the idea idea definitely. Johnson is a question he says nine days after the loss to the Dolphins do you still feel the same as she did nine minute after the game. Well I mean obviously the shock has worn off which at times I don't feel -- shocked I don't hear their shocked I still. I'll I'll feel better when they get back on the field and they played better than it did in game. And until they do that I'm still -- yeah the last little hesitant about the -- I think that's -- people -- little hesitant this week I mean you know -- whole lot of activity going on a lot of emails daily -- going to -- and and they want to -- game where they want to see this team play before they make any further judgment one way or the other in some ways it was a blessing that that -- we Kaman did in other -- it wasn't so much. It was a blessing in that it was such a horrible game. Especially defensively. That the best thing might have been hey let's get away from football for -- a little while. Not think about this get a lot of them. So and in that way I think it was good that it happened a bad thing is now -- eat that give you that much more time this day. Whereas the team with this team right what where today. But overall I think it was a good thing and it came at this time I'm just feel you know say this will be their fourth game you know -- five point devised -- him. I think we'll know better after the west coast trip where this team really is because they're playing San Francisco which is. Like we said earlier about where we expect him to be. 500 fighting for well frankly I am I is that thing I mean you know I thought to have won after three weeks after Brady went down I kind of re evaluated like everybody does in -- Hampshire did -- mention this earlier in the show where you came in. And I'll be I'll be disappointed if they lose this game but I won't be surprised if they lose and so I'm thinking I'm thinking three -- two comin' back home well at certainly possible but I think if you know if that happens I think people are going to be more concerned. Really isn't even if they let the next yet because if they split it. And loose through San Diego a team that -- most likely if they made the players were going to face yet but a road game on me you know it's a road game but. You know if you're. And there are very few elite teams in the NFC and the NFL and in the AFC you're looking at before -- and -- was thing called the Patriots. The Chargers not so in that order but those -- the three teams. They're going to play all three of them and a -- this year. Yeah. If you're that you're going to see them again in the playoffs likely Hampshire you need to take care business in the regular season to make your chances better playing them at home okay no no argument -- so Horry moves -- San Diego. If they put these two games and it was San Diego. I think that concern because you're looking at a team that you might have to face in the playoffs and if that's the case after you back up their place you'd rather beat India to lose Francisco what -- it turns turns out that. I frankly the returns are like there's more can I think people are still going to be concerned but so there that'll what -- Illinois concerns by sweeping. But if you're going to lose. -- in this week. I'd rather beat the team in your conference because you're going to have to play them again in the playoffs. There you know being out there and has more more implications on your playoff seeding and you would lose a tournament team Johnson is now the week has gone by is ever want to making. Well like I said I don't think it's panic but I think people are just questioning. When a team who who are there what there what's there around personality. And I think with without Brady. Still trying to figure art of castles -- going to be the man long term. There's there's question we you know after the the performance that the -- but up you know without the defenseman have been the strength of the team but after what they did against. The Dolphins you want to see him come back and have a great effort which I expect them through because. I don't expect in the late to -- in a row. It. I find it impossible to believe that there and a lot in element francoeur a San Francisco and my record -- them grounded. He's going to try teams are going to try because I was shocked -- going well. They're going to try Eric's not so look I I expect the defense turnaround. A stolen or going to get on offense. Whether they want to see them score more than twenty point -- what they have done it this year. They're going to help the defense subtle little bit my doing their part -- that point is that so until they are doing that. I don't think paintings weren't a concern. Is is probably more pro -- Bomb Sheila in clear water right asked earlier if anybody had seen the remark. Made by I think Jimmy John on fox. And I don't remember who was on the ESP and about the analysts about the whole thing it was caused anxious as I did that show. In that I believe he called by the remark but in the there was a ten day stretch between games. Ten -- beaten. Arizona via you know was -- and -- between your games I don't think so they played them. Sunday in the preakness on -- The play thirteen inning game for me it's too early on -- think the only Thursday night game was the opener with the -- in right that this early in -- and Thursday until November that's -- So I don't. On -- and well at that point was is that you know a couple of the analysts his image earlier. Basically came hard down on the Cardinals for don't like you know one Tuesday NH. -- like this you know teams used that fairly routinely back in the eighties. On and you know in previously because you know it was a it was a little you know to go back and forth -- like -- like that play back to back games. On one post coming from the other in a lot of teams would choose David nowadays what time with charter in the electronic is whenever -- Not next year. Not necessary necessary but I think it's an advantage. I mean if the public cardinal -- I think -- except this morning any any rumors during that specifically when he was with the Eagles. One the first game lost the second and like every case he could remember at the time. Win the first game lose the nobody really knows if -- gone back and forth. If you win the game if you change things around frequently you know I mean I don't know -- that's something you can really. A pattern. I think it happens all that often comical and limb when the first game lose the actual. Okay well today two weeks will revisit it okay. When the first game lose them joy I think that if they if they come back next week that they have a better chance to -- and the -- not there. Not there I think I just think it's an advantage because you're already out there. Three hour time difference dirty use of that time difference okay you have a shorter. -- you're doing your off time. Thirty -- You're -- you're going to be all you have more time to study or pulled even on your day -- you're going to Superbowl it's what you -- all week. You're starting your opponent all -- now you're getting ready to -- family the Bulls that's what you do the week before he. But the the week of the Superbowl you had a whole week to prepare for the game okay I think you I think you look at it like it's the Super Bowl week okay. Are right you have more time okay purity adjusted will find wanna. I don't know -- I don't know where that's. Like you said I don't know how much settle affected the game itself but I think it helps the players and their preparation for. Let's wrap it up here with nick from -- is is great show guys appreciate your perspectives. What would you identify as the Patriots biggest weakness following their first three games. I think Cassel is getting too much -- given his experience level clearly there more issues with this team to get creamed by a team like the Dolphins. Well. Like this that I thought the strength of the team was going to be a front seven. And after -- the Ronnie Brown performance I have to take -- stand back and and wonder if that's still the case. Defensive back is still -- concern because I don't think there's really is a solidified. Cornerback spot there you know Deltha O'Neal has been starting. But -- I wonder if that's going to last all season mean you have you have some competition. At that but their other guys who you know Terrence Wheatley I think is eventually going to make some noise that it -- that in that role. I'd just based on what I saw him earn their training camp which was very impressive. I'm on the little I'm wondering why he has an attitude but -- games. But. It's a toss up right now John I'm. I still think at quarterback there's a concern. Yeah I don't know what we're getting on capital -- we're gonna get there 150 yards to 175 yards and a touchdown and maybe pick a game. Is that what we need I mean we're going to be scored more than one point at all this year -- Take a lot of pressure off the deep. I mean I agree that I think. Or nick says that he thinks gets into much -- given extra boy -- them however if you look at the individual units slam dunk -- quarterback. Quarterback that is the is the biggest weakness overall right now based on the expert level. Which you know it's kinda like catch 22 what do you do album younger men -- were after that I'd have to say. Right now they what was seen -- the secondary still got to be -- considered a weakness. Analyze that maybe just because they're not getting you know. They're not getting as much rushes they'd like to get in order to make. The secondary that much stronger and -- have to -- the offensive line there too just because some of the injuries they've had there. And the lack of continuity that they've had I just on the the offense line has done an adequate job to this point. Well I'm going to go I'll I'll say offense in general is more."
[1:54:50]" My concern because they're not scoring the points there was going last year and in not doing that they're not helping out the defense as much. Now look before the before the running ground game they were doing the defense was doing its job keeping I think they -- held opponents to ten points. This is. This is a concern for me if the Ronnie Brown thing continues. Because with that. Front seven especially the the defensive line which is by all accounts one of the best in the game even if they continue that running back do that through them. -- they're going to be in for a long season I said I don't see that happening. I think they'll bounce back from this I think the Miami game was an aberration. I'm not going to be surprised if other teams try that that Arkansas spread formation. That Miami -- I don't think other teams will have necessarily the personnel to do it. I think Miami was in good position where they had a guy like Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams and that back feel when they were able to do that kind of thing and a good tight end of Fasano. Who could who could help block and -- could could also go as a receiver on -- off other teams are going to have the capability to do that. Against the Patriots they may try. But. I think that defense will be okay I think they'll commit their -- because I still think the front seven is going to be distract that team in the going to have to help out the secondary. -- by getting more pressure on the quarterbacks on opposing quarterbacks. So my concern is as it was when Tom Brady went down in that. First quarter against Kansas City is. Is this offense going to be able to score points and succeed if they can score. Two point four or more points a game they have. --"
[1:56:30]" They should be given every game they'll be in every game I want to win more of those games and not that should be a target but I feel -- now or -- our goal needed at this number but right now they haven't scored twenty points yet not yet turned -- Okay I think -- her husband was an extra pinch hit today. Greatly appreciated Hampshire -- appreciate it. He better you know who's going to return the favor for use them I don't know but the and we roomed together on the roads and I cannot hear about it we'll make sure that he hit -- your friends -- artists aren't full -- down there you go in the no we you and I will be together on third as Thursday yeah -- via -- remote locate an undisclosed location undisclosed location. I with a massage and then -- our service -- bowl. Right. Actually I'm working okay I am working at that Byrd it's that the -- Lawrie south Florida. Try to correct will have a ambient -- but that will be on Thursday. Tomorrow's -- hello -- I'm not Brian -- know Bryan Morry because in the hall of Bryan Morry is coming up here momentarily. Tomorrow's program Randy cross join the solo will give me his perspective. On the -- and he and his west coast perspective maybe the rest of the NFL who knows what will. Deacon was some of that now our thanks to John -- packer who. There was the niners for the Sampras who chronicles for joining early today was all. Turning in my tennis and I got that scenario Americans but let's get this rate it's the whole Andre Tippett. I just. You know inside -- it's okay I just Uranus -- yes -- after about a have absolutely. Was it what does it on the website misses a I. And they typically Bryan Morry with with Latvia and return on packing yet. I have not object if you. Now I asked them through that he would but man allegedly did what you do it yeah I think it might be lower right across from thinking. I -- got -- always petting the and they've got exactly it's a parker that's exactly I get bigger man -- and a what a few years."
[1:58:33]" How happy I was gonna. Happen. And I got locked in on characterize -- really -- We got coming -- really good today I'm going to talk them and hall. You know what's appropriate -- pounds -- Joe holding a little like Q yeah my phone's gonna ring about that time we breakers and phone calls on the radio com. Now I think that would and a lot we'll talk."
[1:58:56]" Little about the game. Because I like Andre perspective on that that under pressure here we we and we talk about alumni and we talk about things I think it's always good. Yeah -- perspective on the team and the game in situations that come up because. You know he's been through a mall. Good and bad now right in -- I think we talked last week a little bit about how the fact that fact that he missed an entire season. Getting hurt the last pre season game which is much different than what number he went through just at five minutes of football even though he didn't play in the pre season. Only played five minutes of football -- I heard you -- and the way in about being concerned about point. And what not and certainly legitimate issue. As you said he look at what -- how prolific offense as last year. I think it's not. -- yeah you -- come on the radio I'm. It's going at a gig writing and nobody is listening. 133. I I think that getting. And a perspective on those things very instinct. And -- mental -- emails god and and let Andre shoot from the hip since it is tactically it's into the honoraria. It's all on -- Not a bad deal not enough of it gets to sit down the pro football hall of Famer every week -- work that's critical of the great and you get a chance to listen to it coming up next."
