Reportedly -- and MCL doctors usually wait for the end he'll he'll. Before the preformed the surgery on the base steal swelling. Down the doctor that Brady has chosen is doctored deal. -- Trash. I think that the curl and Jobe orthopedic clinic in Los Angeles which relies that Tom being from their habits probably like he's going old clothes home here. This doctor wrote the book currently literally wrote the book on surgical techniques in sports medicine so -- ago. He's picked a doctor won't be here it'll be someplace else they'll be Los Angeles but at least he's on track to have the surgery. And will keep you posted them you know from around. I don't know what that would come surprise anybody because Al Davis obviously he's fought the NFL. And he's beaten the and well. After all how could he go from Oakland to Los Angeles backed Oakland again. Apparently as somewhat F effortless looking as as he has done throughout his ten year is Raiders owner. So I'm sure he feels like hey I can beat the NFL in in in the in the court. I can certainly -- kittens but. I don't know if this is. The height of hubris. Or just pure stupidity or the ability has finally -- in. Or Lane Kiffin is really -- on the deal that he signed don't know. Maybe this will all come out a wash over the next few days. Maybe it will never come out. -- I don't know but I I have to admit. I don't know how in organization. Can be competitive on the field was so much turmoil. Going on. Within roiling within as it is. It's it's amazing. And their appearance in Super Bowl thirty what was it 37. Six years now since they've -- editors assume they've gone through four coaches. They have Evan road wins total. Raiders -- one in three on the season thus far they have blown leads in the fourth quarter in two of those three losses. They had lead in the fourth quarter over the bills. Obviously and they and in fact the last Sunday as well over the San Diego Chargers. In fact here's the ones that that's tells me that is not not necessarily Kiffin fault here. Maybe a little tweaking needs to -- but -- personnel wise or even coaching. But in Kiffin twenty game tenure as head coach the Raiders were mere five and this team. But in those twenty games the Raiders took leads into the fourth quarter eleven. Times. So they lacked. The ability to finish. I don't know that. On the head coaches did put a calm. Just an an interesting. Perspective. Interest in perspective so when he was hired as head coach he was the NFL's youngest coach 31 years old. Back in there were most of an almost two years ago. He was hired straight from USC at the count where he was the offensive coordinator at the time. While there obviously is well known defensive coordinator in -- in NFL circles but system. Interest in -- interesting story. Leading sort of the leading candidate by the would replace him is not rob Bryant even know he was believed to one of the three -- being considered. There was some talk that in fact this was even publicized by Kiffin. Someone is being a little bit disgruntled in the public appearance -- I don't follow it going basically around -- and that. That like rob Ryan might even be stabbed him in the back of undermining his ability to become an active head coach I -- Cox and nasty situation. On Comcast cable. Is teams all the line coach and apparently. Apparently cable. According Morton but he is -- here apparently cable is emerging as the leading candidate to replace skip. Com. There were other candidates Greg Knapp who's -- consultant Paul Hackett. Was one of those and I guess Ryan may not even be on the list here according to more refined very strange and just completely. Unexplainable. -- pretty bad actually Angela too much further -- though it pretty interest. But Al Davis doesn't want to pay that guy. I just I I and that. Like a better phrase didn't really deserve the opportunity well. For whatever reason -- one of his first moves as a coach the Rams are now reinstated. Marc Bulger as St. Louis starting quarterback. What that means Bulger was back with the starters today -- practice. Maybe it's the fact that he's the highest paid player franchises I don't know. But anyway. Oh former defensive coordinator -- now head coach is reinstated Marc Bulger is rams' starting quarterbacks. -- the latest news going on about. Patriots future opponent on the line arm. I have to admit I don't necessarily have a definitive question of the day today. The reason that I do not is because coming off a bye week. To me there's a lot of different areas that we can go lot of little ways we go without trying to focus on one particular area. I'm kind of asking you. What is on your mind at this team what concerns you right now on this day. On the final day of the month of September 2008 what concerns you the most about the team at it again. Is the -- is Cassell. -- an injury. Is there in consisting in the -- line. It's the overall age of the defense would certainly should be recurring theme from members of the national media. What is. What bothers you about this thing."

You've got I'm sure you've gone to the schedule and done win lose win win lose lute you've done it just like everybody has done. And you figured out all of that used to be when it may not be now. So everybody has a different. Standard. For this team to live up to. Over this team. To reach the standard that you. Have set or it. What they needed it. Where's the problem. Whereas the trouble where's the weak link. That's good way to freeze it maybe it -- just talking about he would come up with a question initially ordered it is kind of opened up what you thought. I know I know I understand the the person who wrote in once the you know try to make try to -- look I bet they look look at positive performances. And who they played well thus far and in in who you know is going to surprise all the kind of stuff but. It should surely just so hard I mean. Have there been positive -- sure -- if you. And -- is certainly want to throw Jerod and I mean the fact is -- team in tackles fact is we haven't talked much about him but it's probably because he's doing his job. It's -- you know he's right there filling every expectation. And maybe then some that this team had for him he made it. You -- junior shall expendable. Field. Well. I really believe that -- coming back until until. I still think there's a chance well if somebody gets hurt I -- there's a chance if somebody gets hurt yeah. Has lived up to that. Expectation and hype that that associated with him about the in the tenth pick in the team obviously has some success and can compete. You know for the division championship then you'd have to at the Mayo could be potentially contender and on the -- for in -- defensive rookie of the year. Yeah again it's early it's way too early start thinking about that but if if the trend continues I haven't really seen any other defensive rookies at this point. Or standing out that much but he was standing outings were talking about it and frankly he's he's he's. Well he's been out of the spotlight he's been and there are basically every -- which certainly I think you know worthy of mention of this dog absolutely."

[1:08:01]" You really can tell that he is serious. About his job. And and about becoming a better player he's he mean and you don't see any other players coming in on Tuesday they. Once a while maybe you do but he's consistently here on Tuesday he told me. This is his life this this this is what he loves to do. And he's he's young he's in great position he's on a team with great veterans great coaches. And I think that those those dividends are are are paying off rather quickly and you can see this is an an easy defense to learn John and he's a rookie. Via his college coach. Position coach Don Davis at Tennessee was also there. I'm defensive coordinator dean. When the Patriots drafted him had a chance to -- to -- about. Male. And that the thing that stands out to me even six months later from that interview with he said. I was asked him you know about his his work ethic and his dedication of -- I think and he said listen. If -- came back to Tennessee today and wanted to coach the linebackers he could do a better job about it and I -- while. Which go which tells you something coming in in -- coaches like to talk. In hyperbole about them their players sometimes but. When you actually see what the kid has done. This to the far in his career here and the amount of the amount of snaps he's gotten a play in the the production he's had it's easy to see why John Davis had something like that because the kid has produced. There when he takes that dedication that the becoming better and and wanted to study and wanting to learn from the the veterans on this team and you know it's again too early exit to say that he's rookie of the year or -- down but he certainly."

Three regular season games we had a bye weeks at least eight weeks into it he's getting ready -- in this season what is not set up right now aren't they can what kind of bowl game we're going to go out and got Tennessee that's about exactly right that's what they're thinking about -- later. You know really trying hard not to hit that rookie wall. You know which. Had a tough coming in and they often work on watching film but you know he's -- when you talk to you can tell his mark -- mark player. And I don't think he's going overboard. With what he's trying to do he's playing it smart you know he's not here you know twelve hours on -- off and he's coming he's getting his work them. -- he's been smart about it I've known isn't. The threat that you'll burn yourself out too quickly. But does so far haven't seen any evidence and he seems to be doing everything right ways and -- things that. Looks like by all accounts the Patriots -- their. Did did he enjoy every chance to talk him any at all about Powell you know and this on them that we've actually had you know fans here in India in message boards all over the place talk about how. They could really. Have been hit or miss proposition in the draft as the talking all but the pressure -- being the number one pick especially a lot of fact that you know there have been several. I picks in recent vintage that haven't panned out. Well we didn't talk about that the exact topic today but he's addressed that in the past the -- you know high expectation being a top ten pick in coming here and I think guy he said it best when when he he answered it by saying look I just want to be great. Doesn't matter where he was drafted. His whole idea coming into the NFL as I want to be the best -- can be and the best I can be I feel is that level. And so I think he I think. Pressure. In almost all cases -- itself exerted so the deserted him if you don't put the pressure on yourself or if you challenge yourself doesn't matter now thanks. And I were and I think he's I think he's kind of taken that approach and look if he wants to be great if you put enough pressure on himself he knows what he can deal with the money can't. So. I'm."

Who's the quarterback in San Diego now. Philip Rivers the other center breeze out -- why they invested a first round pick. In Drew Brees in in Philip Rivers. Any time it it's a similar situation I think in Cleveland where you have a guy who was playing well when they drafted the rookie. With the number one pick for their first round pick. Derek Anderson just happen to be playing all the time and you couldn't really say well we're going to Yankee now. Because they had that they had a chance and they should have made the playoffs last year with Derek Anderson as a quarterback you. But it's rare that are. Rookie quarterback even a first round. Rookie quarterback is going to start right away Matt Ryan is an exception Drew Bledsoe was an exception their you know there are exceptions. But guys like. Steve McNair for a and Loaiza was the first round quarterback pick but he set for 34 years yeah -- and learn for awhile and even had Olympic career after that but. I just think when you when you draft a player that high at that position. If there's a quarterback controversy that guy who gets drafted. Is going to get is going to win out every time."

[1:27:05]" Sure eventually generally yeah. Because nobody wants to be as you suggested I mean nobody wants to be wrong. Bush with a quote unquote franchise player like the quarterback obviously -- It -- it's a matter of time -- takes over. You do with the way that the Browns have struggled to this point in time frankly. The way that I would answer that question is you know Anderson had a devilish league year last year. Even if you don't think that he kind of caught lightning in a bottle if you even if you for -- you know enough to where you think he kind of quote unquote snapped out of it. I think because of the way the team is right now you need to keep this what if your head coach that you got to look at the bigger picture. -- gotta play PR director here a little bit. It -- you know they'd be your job could also be on the line what could it hurt by putting Brady Quinn in the and the answer is I think very little. The buzz has been when you're gonna start. [1:28:45]" You McNair is a perfect example of that you draft a guy in the first round to be your quarterback maybe your not a rush to get him in there. And when you have the luxury to say okay fine. You go in their now you can do it here discretion and I think the way Anderson has played -- given Cornell that option to say our Brady. You're going to be the quarterback we know he's going to be the quarterback eventually but for now. This is what's better for the team and you know some rookies respond better to being thrown into the fire than others I think Quinn could've handled it last year -- Had to. But I don't think it hurt either that he. Had to wait a little while and thinks of and you know who knows maybe it helped fire. Fire him up a little bit that when he finally does get the chance Sylvia. -- them much more determined who knows."

Great running backs in the history of the unifil that they not start out great or did they gradually get better right I can do is point. Trying to that would be considered a great running back that didn't start out like."

On the label that great they all had great running back started out there and Calvin hill for the Cowboys. Between Thomas started out great didn't end up great but he started out great. Most with the Cardinals ended up with a giant -- and I don't look at -- out of -- pick I don't know that it but it can -- great great runs I had that in my -- but I think somebody who didn't improve as as time went on her to became more valuable to Kenya as time went on maybe maybe his is veteran in this. The Patriots haven't Antowain Smith. You know by the time he wound up by the time he was done he was better I think serviceable back. And I wouldn't call him a great back but I'd say he was it was a very good. He I think he had peaks and valleys he started off very strong in Buffalo as a rookie. I had the resurgence here in new England and the right system at the -- time I think that's why then more -- is welcome here not not but it was a bad guy or anything but he would he would. He would. Played out his potential I think he wasn't getting into what they're going to get and it felt -- he -- something better and obviously. Well it doesn't certainly mean that a for running back doesn't start out great that he will never -- What I think is is that if a running back that there -- great in the two."

Is Laurence Maroney in the system that allowed him. To utilize what talent he has to their fullest extent I would argue right now no. Why. First of all the Patriots need Corey Dillon -- to do what they do. I think that from pretty will documented in the they've they have the third down option. In Kevin Faulk -- they need the smaller shift your back they've used him and used him well. I think was already this year to a limited extent that the Patriots are better suited going between the tackles when LaMont Jordan in anymore is banged away inside. Lawrence Maroney can't do that and whether or not he doesn't want to -- not physically capable or he's not durable enough and I argued. He's not durable and that's my my greatest reward tomorrow I don't think physically. But he's going to be able to stand up to the rigors of being an every down back for this team the Patriots need to -- the bigger stronger. Franchise -- In my estimation to fill the role that -- that a tailback should be Corey Dillon was incredible success -- for a year year and a half Antowain Smith was incredibly successful because he was fulfilling that role we save that in 2000 when Bill Belichick got here. Laurence Maroney is not. -- properly for the role that the Patriots would like him too. Why do you think that is I. Again because I don't think Maroney is the go between the tackles hit the hole kind of guy I mean I mean why you think -- If that's the case if what you're saying it's okay why. And he was a first round pick gives -- What was -- about him do you think that they saw that led -- completely could be other -- his first. I think this is ability in college to hit the hole. And I don't know where he was picked but I thought of the perfect choice for the Patriots. --"

Actually you know he started off very slow and he did he do it had -- problems he had his problems initially and he's starting to he's starting to have all the potential that we saw at UNC and where you received he was. Then you got hurt and and I'll -- a lot of times -- now he's got now is as basically a five man rotation. He's hurt again well. And now I know how long he's out on the field is to get a -- on the guy. It Drew had that been the frustrating part and he's admitted it though that. He never really had injuries reported worry about it ever since has gotten in the NFL he's had to deal with these nagging injuries that kept them out and kept him from getting -- momentum. I think we saw the last six games last year when he put up those 400 yard games. There and in the regular season potential playoff I think that's what the Patriots dog when they draft okay all of that ability I'll buy that -- day. And hit the hole in the line can hold their blocks along enough for him to hit that hole yet they north south rather than the east -- crap that he does. That I think he's got the potential to be right there and beat the kind of -- the Patriots hoped he would be but it has happened with -- and he can write at all and I was hoping that after that. You know and he means that it -- in the off season those last few games gave him a momentum that he wanted to carry forward into the season. And your right you can't keep them momentum going to turn on the on the field. You know 100% healthy right right but it is unfortunate but I question I thought it was great question I want us to think about -- more because. There has to be a case where a running back didn't start on great right K and -- very very. Very good it even even if not great but at least consistent reliable. Someone did you know dependable. It's a great question -- have to think about it more -- to go back in the -- history. I'm only know the NFL films because -- question visually. You know I'm -- good when the consider while it's great a great question consider an -- to stop coming -- all the great back -- come up with basically started out that way. Well and they had a chance to that's the thing like us saying it. Either. If you're a rookie running back you're either on a team that needs -- right away where you're sitting behind a guy -- if you're sitting behind a guy. Or five years later when you finally get that chance. The I don't know deposition is there a position to do that -- you know."

At that but their other guys who you know Terrence Wheatley I think is eventually going to make some noise that it -- that in that role. I'd just based on what I saw him earn their training camp which was very impressive. I'm on the little I'm wondering why he has an attitude but -- games. But. It's a toss up right now John I'm. I still think at quarterback there's a concern. Yeah I don't know what we're getting on capital -- we're gonna get there 150 yards to 175 yards and a touchdown and maybe pick a game. Is that what we need I mean we're going to be scored more than one point at all this year -- Take a lot of pressure off the deep. I mean I agree that I think. Or nick says that he thinks gets into much -- given extra boy -- them however if you look at the individual units slam dunk -- quarterback. Quarterback that is the is the biggest weakness overall right now based on the expert level. Analyze that maybe just because they're not getting you know. They're not getting as much rushes they'd like to get in order to make. The secondary that much stronger and -- have to -- the offensive line there too just because some of the injuries they've had there. That Miami -- I don't think other teams will have necessarily the personnel to do it. I think Miami was in good position where they had a guy like Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams and that back feel when they were able to do that kind of thing and a good tight end of Fasano. Who could who could help block and -- could could also go as a receiver on -- off other teams are going to have the capability to do that. Against the Patriots they may try. But. I think that defense will be okay I think they'll commit their -- because I still think the front seven is going to be distract that team in the going to have to help out the secondary. -- by getting more pressure on the quarterbacks on opposing quarterbacks.
