In San Diego California. We'll spend some time around. Certainly looking at the game today and what else is going on around the National Football League news wise is well some interesting -- media coming out of San Diego which it will get too. Shortly but in the meantime Michael for a team. Would normally joined us on Wednesday's. From Patriots football weekly is with us today for a short while before coach Belichick gets underway with his media proceedings out in a Santa Clara. Micah what's going on what went on up here you know Phillip Simmons -- details."

Play from 1:26[1:26]" Well very hot Billick it's like ninety degrees here today. The sun beating down -- getting behind the stadium and it's you know -- eight and it Colts aren't against the greatest who old school college football speed and plate belt school. College vibe that you'd like placed on that kind of get things right. Yeah absolutely outstanding. Yeah but I -- it right now a little bit of a back chops it up -- coach Belichick and come out momentarily and about twenty minutes the world's kind of milling around waiting Latin player availability afterward that it can be practiced that 12:40 Pacific time that's going to -- well have to figure out here wouldn't that be a lot going on today and the next two days as well -- but -- that they'll beat you conditions and Ramirez and see how they adjust to that kind of a different scenario different set up to them the trying to treated. As much as a normal week it's up over the course there are some differences -- practiced on the field staying in difficult so. Not to be in your -- that night so there are some differences but I think overall. I think we'll find it -- we developed -- it seems like it's pretty professional set up and -- it onto it in terms of equipment and all the technology that video technology. Everything they needed here and it's stupid to predict that a so far."

Play from 2:37[2:37]" Well you know we talk a little bit yesterday Mike about them how -- trying to keep this is close to home as possible and make the guys I don't like they were east coast. And I know that the coaches have said several times in fact since the -- the -- Sunday's game in San Francisco. That this game and this week almost had eight. The divisional opponent feel to -- because they played San Diego lot over the last two or three years. And so combined with the -- and the fact that they are staying out there so they would have to go by coastal over this week. I was kind of curious as to what your impressions were number one and number two. One of the players and the coaches said in terms of feedback about this some relocation for a week."

Play from 3:17[3:17]" play achievements in the divisional game aspect because industry people in charge so much and it seemed like every year we want in the regular season than in the playoffs nip and twice last at what's it like dominates the we are they were a lot of personnel and they are a lot of the same player that carried over from last year to you know as far as feedback from players you know so far so good yet if you -- called. On Monday not much player active yet this will be our first -- access. Since Sunday's game but we really don't know I'll. The feeling yet the that you need to panic did you witness in the third -- so but I -- them article other field and Everett can -- chip and that the that it probably epidemic that they you know if you go to the Super Bowl -- uses -- sort of think Houston the week how intent they -- debated over Arizona. As for the got a chance to sort of get -- feel what it's like the practice went home for a week and today and it's impossible spending habits you can probably Italy here -- kind of the same scenario to practice -- policy -- you know using to wait facilities in the weight room you know I think he'll -- you know -- Seymour -- today what -- think about it but I think -- parts -- empathetic."

Play from 4:27[4:27]" Kayla -- a little bit of the news anyway because not too far down the coast where you guys are located. Mike -- reported the Boston Globe and Tom Brady did indeed have his knee surgery do you guys. Know anything further beyond the fact that. Tom did undergo the knife."

Play from 4:42[4:42]" Now that the front and I heard it was really at this morning's sudden news that you hadn't added yet in. We had heard the news that you can appear to have it done to balance and we were all familiar with the newly chosen the doctor. You know I -- I think I mean obviously -- on the put -- particular that is -- that it -- really -- and he -- that's -- the way. Where you can indeed take a look and describe. Recover and recuperate purse and have the surgery and they'll be back on the field -- you ready to go by time can't start up next year -- that's part of the benefit. A player getting early and beat him over the planet on Brady but be more devastating it -- shorter. And he sort of have to make quick explosive -- it would be ready for the next camp the following year at least now having it happened September. He should be okay let's -- April may June rolls around and figure by July training camp he's going to be back out there."

Play from 5:38[5:38]" Absolutely infect other we're talking about. I'm POW progress just short while ago. And -- brought up the point that you know last year -- calls and Philip Rivers underwent a -- you know he repair surgery. And and didn't take him quite as -- to come back and Brady has a longer time to Rico. And recover before mixtures camp starts so. There shouldn't be is always everything goes okay with the surgery which apparently it did everything goes into the -- shouldn't be any problem -- bouncing back."

Play from 6:09[6:09]" On the Sergio -- behind and then from there greater coverage -- all the different but the party gauge a guy like goat Rivers. I think the TGE it was bacteria that it yet still. A week before that playoff game it well he had had some sort of procedure done. Well not their place in the AFC championship and I want it lost its credit -- much out of surgery get out of the way so you know it took every time being quicker. I don't apparently the Brady as much and we'll see how he reacts to it but you know has a lot -- that. This is apparently pretty mild and except use the term obviously. But wild injury in the fact that it. Routine it's -- it happens -- only time -- And it it's only proceeded under prepared to put an injury that it become commonplace after a while not a netted a groundbreaking surgery and it's you know put a cadaver bones and explode completely like this is a routine that players -- yelled out I'm insufferable ligament damage in the -- so. Is that something that they'll really -- about --"

Play from 7:05[7:05]" buildings on the Chargers here number one. Are we going to mention that the Patriots coaches kind of feel like this is a divisional game almost because they played them sometimes the last few years but. Noticed as well what they've said that they've really only pulled out their own videotape in films. In looking at the Chargers as opposed to maybe taking a look at the Chargers. Although I don't know like last week against Miami is a strange TO."

Play from 7:29[7:29]" Well and obviously to beat a long time -- applicable at -- and and impose -- somebody else has an editor of the Miami they do and so many different things opened with a lot at formation now nobody really. It's applicable to this week's game. So in other words I think what I did last year and it Zito and give it back at it it has mostly the same person and a stronger than we do other and absences there in the -- at the -- Well for the most part they've had success against the team they look not only to -- after all spiky controversy they -- in the last several years ago Qualcomm Stadium. And now BR. Move maybe a few months in the playoff victory at Gillette Stadium and -- sleep at the pretty good at bats against in Diego I would typical work obviously -- don't tinker feuding with on the Patriots because there are some new players and Duke and we. We want to make it doesn't fit that other plane right now. And hitting those -- averaging a pretty good amount of points per game roughly about thirty will that left the net but again LaDainian Tomlinson hasn't been the -- cornerback this year I thought he would start to turn the corner. Last week last couple weeks then he had a really. I would say substandard effort against the Dolphins last Sunday it on the -- particularly well in Iraq and all that much either because I wonder that that the whole injury is still sort of bottling in the one that kept the market can't -- these historic up there an agent he is 29 years old now and you wonder if -- reached out wallop it and it's he'd start or not a decline overloading the tackle in the game."

Play from 8:56[8:56]" Yeah I just thought that you know the thing that worries me the most about the Chargers committed that. Last week notwithstanding. Com here's a team that was doing pretty well on offense and yet. LaDainian Tomlinson admittedly has not performed up to par they really haven't had a a healthy Antonio Gates yet. They certainly may not have Chris Chambers would this week as well. And yet ha -- the these guys still seem to be. Plenty potent and so I won already. The largest mistake though they seem like there could be an opportunity here for something different to -- the Patriots up."

Play from 9:33[9:33]" intimidate me -- of their own -- and and maybe even the Chargers big over the woman didn't try to use that they're it you know. If they run a few favorite Pollock and line up behind center and eight -- result -- probably not immediately tried doing it and again and it's here. But the bottom line has not chamber that's going to be difficult to beat the typical want to really. There -- only legitimate deep threat. And I haven't and now win in this game in May be the -- be up in the air out deep in the secondary it's really going to rest heavily on Thompson's older. I'm not sure what you gonna do against this team it has -- pretty became the -- the past and then there have been some moments pretty haven't been so effective -- Actually that balance here I -- We look at this schedule this season you know tighten the -- by the game. Went how important it seemed it went -- square there -- depth in the bottom line change according to. Game they are notes -- he'd scored two touchdowns in the next two to even their record. And it kept champions but in Miami it has surprised when they lost -- as well for the top two and three. I really thought about getting in talent they get out and in the yet unions on a couple of times and has a chance to battle in the ballgame."

Play from 10:40[10:40]" You get the sense then bet that after what we saw Matt Cassel do this last week for the Patriots. And finally -- up long distance with -- Randy Moss but he's getting more and more comfortable. Being thrust into the spotlight role but he's gonna quarterback and maybe. Just maybe the other guys even more comfortable with him."

Play from 10:57[10:57]" I think so I think that happened that would under so acute that it's harder early on and even though he took a lot of reps in training camp it -- so when -- in their real game I think doubt that it expected. Have a -- by that we -- it -- really I think and you never really want that early by playing 1213 consecutive weeks. But what the situation being what was coming up bad -- and penalties chemistry issues opted out of the park but we even two weeks. Yeah on the same page and everybody and it's showed an -- sisco now long putts them passes replay it perfectly executed. And didn't start cease commodity areas where you know maybe it's and this and nobody tried it again later in the corner -- picked off and on the pro ball. -- I applaud -- Trying to protect -- I think though the smart move by the -- keep trying it until somebody stops it but don't which -- Economy that night that they you know -- even more as time goes on and comparable each other and the more capital attempts of deep passes. The better and accuracy will be on the stroke of luck I think that's probably biggest drawback but the fact that -- the -- I think he can but advocates aren't that just. It's an accurate the issue and when you get that settlement squared away they pass and they go on."

Play from 12:07[12:07]" My before what you often though listen -- coach Belichick I'd be curious to know. If you have any questions for him today and what they might be."

Play from 12:15[12:15]" Actually look at the clock that are Brandon Meriweather -- interesting subject -- the credit struggled and last year sort of got ridiculed couldn't agent lead bite me for not the other catch the ball and I areas -- five game. He's made a big impact in optimistic this year have actually turning around made the big plays and we know he worked on the jugs machine during the off speed and took some action magical work on it and they'll. Peter is he what you did there and open against hip pocket and they finally thunder in the offseason. -- and the seems like so all the work paid off."

Play from 12:47[12:47]" I'm very good or Michael what you go to them and then though we look forward to work seeing the responses. Might make you that's my prince he of course hold grudges to second on Mike hold onto second because your wanted to talk to your mom. Mike -- from San Jose or Santa Clara California anyway worthy teams look at their actually working out at San Jose state university. And that's where they're located with training camp if you will today the practices today and then I guess the practice -- in what Mike said. In about an hour or so after that the -- some media obligations on the west coast. And then they will loan. Practice for the afternoon court by the time we get wrapped up will be long since gone here today is little different when you have to. Operate from a different polls as we almost are here. Those of the big things but nevertheless if there's an update will bring it to you. And hopefully the chance chicken with Michael little bit later on as well see if anything. Did transpire out of today's. Media briefing if you will in -- in California. -- Can't get started today. Actually we did get started -- With my -- from the west coast which is always -- where the Patriots -- got to do that right bring up today and and everything that's going on I think it is getting underway for the day out there but. Here's the thing that I wanted to kinda jump on today because. I get the sense and -- maybe this is just mean because we kind of went through this last year you'll recall of course win. That the teams. And the war of words going on it seemed like he came certainly more from the San Diego's side than it did from. The Patriots add an and maybe a lot of that came from the whole spy -- issue and LaDainian Tomlinson basically an elm columnist classless and that kind of so that was going on a course in on the Patriots after the spy -- issue when I'm just lacked. San Diego in the regular season at home and then of course they in the beating them again last year 21 to twelve in the AFC championship game last January. And their words you don't war of words and battled the -- is going on between several players certainly from the featuring the office want the charters and the deep sense of one of the Patriots you know -- Nick Hardwick Richard Seymour. Brouhaha war of words what have you that took place -- as well. And I find it curious guys I really beautiful and very curious. Debt that bad will lingers steal. I don't know that has it -- to do the fact it was the Chargers that got beat. Or if they really still have ill will toward the Patriots -- transport let's hear I mean most deadly triple are taught I think. And of course he played a game. At any level you know that you know you want a game is over you try to put it behind you -- was. For fear of letting it ruin your focus focus for the next game and that's what that's what these Patriots have always subscribed to. This team is always subscribe to that. Theory that phenomenon that that that the practicality if you were on we will try to put the bad things behind you. In no matter what walk like you ran and then you move onto the next issue in the next job that makes this -- that and you don't eventually forget all the bad stuff. But the Chargers really seem to be hanging on here and I'm going to read some that in case you didn't get a chance. On to see it today but this comes from on the San Diego union Tribune again. And there's a story in the newspaper today from a Chris Jenkins. On who does some of their riding along with Kevin AC and we spoke with yesterday he on the program of course if you haven't had a chance to hear that you should download podcast and in listening and because that Kevin had some great things to say about -- franchise very animated very information more informational and in a good conversation with a myth that. That beyond just these podcast and he went. Bomb. I'm looking at some of the comments that are still coming from these guys. In regards to. Having to face the Patriots when this team is to win three the Chargers that is. And they just got whacked by Miami which shocked everybody and they face a very difficult road -- ahead. After the Patriots over the give Buffalo and in the got to go play that game in London against the New Orleans Saints. So it's not an easy time right now to be a charger or charger fan I either. On top of that they've got the -- problems that we've had including of course Shawne Merriman on for the year. So Eddie -- is already -- sampling of what some of these guys are saying in regards to the Patriots right now for instance. LaDainian Tomlinson. Who really kind of started it all in light of spy game a year ago. I'll buy basically called Patriots classless organization and what have. He says. In terms of -- The Chargers trying to get their season restart it heavily with the question posed to him. And what better team to do -- against in the Patriots because of the emotional value of this quote unquote rivalry. Between these two teams. And Thomas says could be good and bad. We know it's going to be a heck of a competitive game we know we've got to fight. All right so a little tepid. Little lukewarm. Right little like a tapioca putting from where Damian -- and right I would six. And here's a guy that. In in Tomlinson probably epitomizes the Chargers trouble right now I mean here's a -- here's a guy that. Is not performing up to the capabilities to which people are used to seeing him and yes he has been bothered by some injuries -- these at a bad -- and -- going aunts and nobody really knows what. Quite to make out of LaDainian Tomlinson this year all the noise that is production is not. Been up to his usual. Production. -- some of the things. What Nick Hardwick there's senator. Said last year about Richard Seymour. Let's see here we go. There's a good -- Hardwick is says he's respectful of the Patriots in general and especially the New England defensive players he blocks. But of course Richard Seymour is the one of these have a problem with his quote was Richard Seymour is the biggest leap I've ever come across and football and it was after. You would call the conference title game last January. He says they've got ten good football player in the team Richard Seymour is a dirty cheap little plot pompous bully. All right now he elaborates. When Jarvis Green is on the field in place of Seymour they have eleven great players that compete how you're supposed to compete. But that Richard Seymour is the biggest -- I've ever played head slapping foot stomping in the -- running by -- throwing punches in your back like he's a bleak. Of course we know that Seymour has. Denied any dirty play. He just said that as you recall last January that he thought hard which comments were -- classless. On and that -- with a kind of handled the any differences on the field with them rather than talk about it in the media. Fact is is that this kind of stuff is still going on. And Hardwick was asked again what he thought about facing the Patriots this week. And these quotas get out that's always a good time. Eyes rolling in the back of the head and walking away from his questioner. So there's still some. Also thanks -- part of the -- And I wonder if you'd think pay. Does that do you think that could serve to. Helped the Patriots. Is it much ado about nothing. Could it hurt the Chargers because they're becoming singularly focused and there. I don't know Patriot. For lack of afraid of the Patriots do you look at this these these games now because they played. Often enough by our coaches standards here it seems like -- divisional game they've already said. Try to prepare for this team this week. Does that help or hurt does that give you an edge and again you always look for an edge where even get it. Could you give the Patriots an -- I don't know. I just I found it curious that. The media stories began this week about this quote on quote. Rivalry of words between the two sides in. What is because they played some meaning from football games over the last couple years. And the Patriots have largely had the upper hand of the games that really counted. Me you know let's face it to twelve games last two years have been did not well for the Chargers when it comes to play the pats. Curious. Curious. Hum. Here's another guy you know. You know will LaDainian Tomlinson went on to say. A little bit to ally -- front of the offending players at midfield. -- after their playoff victory year before last. -- and down. Chargers linebacker Shaun Phillips also was one of the ones that you were classless. In reference to the Patriots. And Tomlinson even said again this week that he's that -- Shaun Phillips will have a grudge against that team the rest of his career. And I'm wondering if you kind of find this. Curious and let it affect the Chargers have so many other things going on with their football team problems injury what have you. That their focus. Is now kind of students seemed to be game now homing in on. They're disdain. For the Patriots and for the Patriots players. Does this. I guess here's here's a question for him. Does this then. Turn into the age that may be the Chargers needed an effort to. You know gain a bit of an advantage against New England for the Sunday. Could -- the Patriots in don't play the whole psychological thing. To their advantage and then some against other teams. -- the -- be trying to do the same to New England in this particular instance. Accounting so all the -- might golf clothes -- their guard candidates at the San Diego Chargers need to take care. Of the San Diego Chargers. Which also I was up in interestingly ended because most the rest the other the the story the article and we want to together in the locker room had to do with the focus on the rivalry with the Patriots and how could be coming at a good time simple because the Chargers beat an emotional kick in the pants. So that's how they're kind of looking at it from the San Diego point of view and -- like to know how you look at it from your point of view. Going into this game it's a big game is no doubt about it. There's no doubt about it but. I sense now that there's an opportunity now for the Patriots. You know the Chargers are a favorite going into the game we probably should be it is their own game parole. I don't know to be too many games Patriots even their current state will be favored on the road this year don't know. At this stage in just don't know unlike a year ago or we didn't know. But because of this I'm sensing an opportunity I think for the Patriots. To win this game on Sunday. -- you know certainly if if things break out the way they do. -- each and every week you know this team has an opportunity to win but he kind of thought you know looking at this two game road trip for the get a chance go back home -- like -- The San Francisco -- really important because there's a team that probably little lesser quality pagers and take your business and win that one. Because you gotta feel like the city -- going to be imminently tough. Very hard to win. I think most of us thought San Diego probably win that game at Miami last week in what they do they go on the blow and then we scored ten points and losing it. So this puts a little bit different face on it and now some might say well the Chargers could be. Maybe have the backs against the wall and -- just described. It seems to me that they're beginning to sort of try to create that psychological. Edge for themselves. The media -- in the locker what have you because they're trying to drum up some of this disdain some of the hatred for the Patriots based on the previous performances. Well. -- kinda look at that a little bit differently. I'm thinking that. Maybe if the Patriots stay focused on the task at hand. Maybe they can continue to take some chances and you know continue to bring along Matt Cassel continue to put down the field will be elected it was Randy Moss last week and you know continue to find a way even if -- running back by committee to create some opportunities and keep it out of my hands. Our Philip Rivers and company that this Patriots team can do to San Diego this next week what they did to San Francisco last week. I don't think I I did not think like this that we could go this time I did not. Although the Patriots would be fortunate to beat San Francisco it to get out relatively healthy with a loss at San Diego that's what I thought this time a week ago now I'm feeling differently. Seal things change in this business. The change from week to week dated a game to game. I have a little different outlook and a little different feel about this Patriots team not that I think begin anywhere close to where they were a year ago don't get me wrong. But I'm looking at his one game one week at a time like you know the guys in the locker room we're supposed to and least they say they do. And if I look at it this way and compared from last week that now. I see a difference mentally and physically. Preparedness. I also -- a big difference in their opposition. Now as compared to a week ago or as last week they were -- into -- Somewhat confident rolled up some points and they lost a couple of last minute games they felt like they should win -- lost him to a couple of games but. You know you know here's a team that I was -- they lost Carolina last second they lost a Sandia ought to Denver last second but certainly could have been two wins. You know they beat the crap out of the Jets. They've -- Oakland at Oakland in the course they -- the sticker at Miami. San Diego is not that far away from being four and one. I don't know five -- no is a stretch but they could be. I think bands at least in -- DL feel like this team would be five and -- if they were healthy but then again I think the Patriots would also pinch would be foreign though. If they were completely healthy. It's slipping just a little in this is a pivotal game from San Diego's point of view. This could reach stamp them as a contender the two games now behind Denver. A Denver team a lot of people feel like is not as good from top to bottom -- San Diego may be in that west division. And yet they could slip even further behind. The Broncos in the division if they lose this game for the Patriots this is a big game for week five. Or in this case week six. For the San Diego Chargers big. It means more I think the San Diego may be that it does to knowing that although you always like to be contending teams. It was like to beat teams that you could be jockeying with four playoff positioning which is that's why this game is is really it's Big Brother one but. I get the sense that it could be bigger for San Diego in the New England. And the Patriot to take in the right approach heading in. -- don't shoot themselves in the foot. This could be one of those types of games for the Patriots that could signature put a stamp on your season. I feel the building just a little bit do you. The things that I wanted to kind of go get that here today it's part of that email is concerned so willow. Make sure you take note of the email address again web radio at Patriots dot com because. I'm getting a sense now. That's. Through several different sources media sources and web sites places that we like to visit and all that. More and more people feel like that the AFC race overall. In five weeks is as wide open as it may have been in some time. May arguably sense I don't know 2002001. Prior to the Patriots first Super Bowl. It the first time in in in in a decade almost. -- because of what has transpired of the Patriots in the entered Tom Brady elect honest armed. So if it is wide open. In addition to the other questions are about how San Diego seems to be. Fighting themselves. Looking for the chip on the shoulder gaining that psychological edge and within that you think you could backfire on them or not so. -- a couple of things for you to work chew on here this afternoon on -- Wednesday -- though hopefully we'll get some responses here. And we'll hear from me and get your thoughts on why you think about. Those items of for the New England Patriots heading into this game on Sunday night. In the Chargers is the NBC. National football night in America broadcast which is kind of cool bomb. You certainly have the eyes of the nation on the team on and in on the game overall. I think most teams. I mean no argument routine that in most media most national media the guys that I speak with. Content and the kind of look at this now is the Patriots to sort of an afterthought. And I guess I can understand why that would be. What teams do like kind of sneak in from underneath and and not necessarily make a big deal -- of things and they like to come in under the radar and like to be the surprise and you know don't like to have the target on the backs on the kind of stuff and maybe this is more of the Patriots liking. I wonder if a lack of respect which I don't see that the -- to getting I see that you know I think they've certainly had their share of respect. I don't look at. Them being ignored it and it's a great nor probably as well too strong -- I don't look at let's let's say they've been up front senate right now which are not terribly fronts and we can't put the Tennessee Titans of their because they're five and -- right now. I don't look at this as being a decided judgment Patriots while look at this. Is that it's sort of afraid of breath of fresh air for a lot of folks that cover you know pro football. And that this is a story that a lot of people before this he's started didn't think they would ever get to. I mean frankly going into the season I had a lot of whole home. About this team Roger's going to be it's going to the Patriots are going to be back of the AFC would be surprised in the -- the -- do it again or the path and the Cowboys are what have you. This is a story they have been dealt. The national media it's. This is stored in the deal that they had no idea it was coming it it Florida and just like Tom Brady's injury report you'd -- and floored everybody else. So in this regard looking at their reaction to this story is actually been kind of curious they have -- really jumped on anybody's bandwagon. I mean you could make a case for Tennessee about the -- looks Tennessee as invincible. And that's not a play on words obviously Vince Young is is that not the starting quarterback there at the present time. But you know they've managed to win the five games that they've played thus far. I only anybody looks at anybody. In the AFC is being unbeatable or invincible or potential champion mean the Colts are having their struggles. Auburn that we we've already begun to document the struggles of the San Diego Chargers. Pittsburgh Steelers. In a one a couple of games and then that they've you know come crashing back to earth a little bit Cleveland has been a large -- I think for the most part in the although I'm not entirely certain -- that team was. -- even capable of living up to the praise it was heaped upon it in the off season. While others because they want in games in the playoffs last year. But -- to the Cleveland does is a disappointment based on where they finished a year ago certainly. So there are some teams that -- thought that you don't or what you know good chance to really excel that have fallen short. The Patriots just being one of several. That you could categorize that way. And because of that. I mean eventually he's sort of they'd taken little different bit of a of an outlook over this race in kind of cast it up for grabs and maybe they're just kind of picking and choosing. There -- opportunities to cover teams followed team what have you. I also get a sense that the NFC this year he is stronger based on the head to head competition with the AFC this -- don't have the numbers. Right in front -- perhaps some -- doesn't insure them. But. You know they're much more competitive against the AFC this year. I would argue that they they are in improved conference. They may even be better from top to bottom although. The worst team in the league last year was Miami and look at Miami now so who knows right. The -- is a relative but it is kind of shows at all things are cyclical in life and in the National Football League. And the fact if you couldn't maintain some sense of but not normalcy some sense of continuity. When everybody is -- rising or falling around you that you're doing a remarkable job. I don't know but the Patriots certainly in that category they're doing a remarkable job. Trying to stay put and of course I think everybody realizes and in this is documented a little bit last year and it's been documented in pre teachers as well. And we've heard this from some of the Patriots players and I'm sure many of you recall this that. You know the Patriots themselves and a lot of lot of the pros around -- unifil. Don't even feel like the season starts until he -- about Thanksgiving. Right before you start the final month of the regular season. You know the pre season is just that it's the pre season it's it kinda you know get yourself in shape if not physically -- certainly mentally. And it's in time it's time to you know look younger players try to earn their way onto rosters someplace and we've certainly seen that in -- don't uncertain terms. In New England. Because it was a much thought put into the games themselves and probably. Won't be for some time that's just seems to be the philosophy around here. But when you start the regular season. You have a tendency to. You know realize that this is a marathon it is not a sprint we heard all this last year. The Patriots continued to you don't keep the winning streak alive that ultimately obviously reached 21 before that loss to the Dolphins a couple of weeks ago. In the regular season. The players know bit it takes a strong a consistent. Effort week in and week out and that when one week is over you don't bring it back you go until the next thing. We can look back and we can look at it but they don't. And I certainly get -- But that. All they want to do. They don't treat anyone lost any bigger than any other but don't little loss keep them down for very long if at all they don't let a win. Get out of hand. But don't celebrate inordinately. Because of one win in the early part of the season it's a good win yes it'll it'll slap you high fives and get some hugs and stuff like that in the locker room after a book the big win. But you know thirty minutes outside the locker room on the way home it's over. And you go one of the next week. You have to maintain that kind of -- Every week. And the players feel like you don't want all you've got to do until you get to the real season which is Thanksgiving on post Thanksgiving if you will on in the regular season. You just kind of stay afloat. You've just got to stay in the mix you just got to stay alive. And if you could do that he can stay in the next -- at heart whatever cliche you want to use here. To where you can make a run at the end of the year bat he is the goal. Of any team but that is certainly the goal a team that has a few -- if you cut a few bruises a few dents in the armor and that's what the Patriots. Case in point is well case of what the New York Giants from last year. You know they got off to a known to start. They were what 62 with the break and then they play the best football from Thanksgiving on last year and even though the loss to the Patriots in the regular season game we all know what happened last February so. I would say the Giants are are perfect example of you don't want to stay in the moment stay in the mix. Be relevant. In the middle part of you don't get too far behind. Don't get worried if you're too far ahead. Just remain in the Knicks keep an even keel during the majority of the regular season and when you do that in if you're able to do that. They do you have a chance to get it going in to build momentum and get -- Rolen. And play some serious football in December and into January and that's really where the Patriots. After the Patriots are that's where the Chargers want to be. And you you could make case for at least ten or eleven so called contenders in the AFC now. You can make case for any one of those. Potentially. Utilized in the kind of a philosophy and that kind of theory in the kind of -- of a practice. And moving on. Which is why I asked the question today again a web radio at Patriots dot com. Bomb that's why ask questions give me out in your estimation a pretender. And a contender in the AFC right now. Two teams. And tell me why you choose to. When you look at him as a contender or pretender particular. Yeah I think the Patriots are contenders sure -- from the Chargers or contender. I'm not sold. On the five and -- Tennessee Titans I'm not sold on him yet. My need to see in in the week or two before it won't name them legitimate pretender but certainly there in the mix there are no worse than being in the mix and again. As a just explain that's really all you need to be at this stage of the game. It's all you need to be. I'm wondering as well. If flown. There are other teams that intrigued you on that you think have an opportunity to play themselves and contingent if they're not they're all ready. Somebody else that that it could surprise. Somebody else that might surprise in a negative cents. Meters to what you have to -- web radio act Patriots dot com. On getting this from mom. PF -- pro football talk. Against the -- Chiefs in the season opener. This was done at the -- and Jobe orthopedic clinic in Los Angeles. The recovery time is expected to be six to eight months. Which of course I guess in theory if you -- just -- means the Brady might not be ready. To return in time for spring mini camps. But he should be ready for summer training camp in July -- I think everybody would be somewhat satisfied with that don't count out Tom Brady will be on his own. You know agenda and he'll be on his own. Routine and my -- guess is here is that he will step up his efforts to get back as quickly as is humanly possible for him. In you know so I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the June mini camp would be surprised at all. But maybe you know they take precautions and Dolan come back too early maybe they bring him back for the summer. Some -- issue for doing right about this the double B yeah I'm -- who's there. Play from 51:08[51:08]" Why we get the sense that maybe a little the juices is gone from the the Patriots charter rivalry. Through this game simply because of the of the increased to the significant players on both sides of the football but then in reading through some of the San Diego media already this week. I'm not so sure that's the case I think the Chargers still. Harbor some ill will toward the Patriots in. Some of the conversation that I've been trying to -- of today has to do that more than you think that's hurt more helpful and what I even think the Patriots care one way or the other different thoughts on that one or the other yourself."

Play from 51:36[51:36]" On I think -- matter what they're athlete and a B and kind of rivalry they're because that they've had many. Play from 52:14[52:14]" Well I I don't think that it's certainly has died down on the part of the Chargers and the Patriots trying to downplay it but when you have guys you know on on one team San Diego called Patriots classless. Play from 52:30[52:30]" and I hate it. On a -- it probably can't do nothing but. Via a Booth for the Patriots. They definitely play down but it if they hear it. And they know if they like they say they always bring it out on the field tell I don't think that anything that that Carter's going to be doing too much because the Patriot I can take that and use it there for him or her."

Play from 52:50[52:50]" This is certainly turned down I think to be -- you know. A season that nobody's. Nobody expected in. To that in that this team continues to try to find itself I think a little bit maybe an identity for itself you know through the first four weeks now five weeks -- the bye week and ball. And at three and one day he can't say that it's too far away from where you thought this team would be even if they were completely healthy so. How do you think he will take and has this team already found an identity for itself."

Play from 53:20[53:20]" Com. A lot of did you make some people may take four games in a people's day I think even Tom Brady. Take -- giving right up. You know and me they all. Have the fact in their mind it's a long and they're taking. Game by game by game but I think that. Really what they're doing and they're not getting ahead of them -- because anything can happen adequate across the NFL the with a lot of different not Patriot. But I think they deathly. They know who they are they know what they have. Taken a lot of adjustment so far things that come out of nowhere obvious that knowing -- but. You know anything can happen like he's at and the Dolphin game I think that was. That the net they're going to do nothing but take and take everything they possibly can and make it doesn't happen again."

Play from 54:11[54:11]" Well you certainly had a chance to talk to the other guys the locker room and and get their take and what's transpired thus far how'd they feel this team is progressing and do they feel like you're getting any closer to having an identity for themselves."

Play from 54:23[54:23]" Oh yeah I think now I think I think that they day you know we know the talent on the -- they know we have. Play from 55:06[55:06]" The other question Christine Kristina Akra course compatriots today joining us here and said the play book the other question I had today asked to do with you know just the perception that. The AFC race right now is completely wide open. You could go anywhere from eight to ten or even eleven teams he had considered contenders. Of the teams that that are you know would look to be contenders. You know pick one that you think. Yourself. Could potentially. Be around for the long haul in another one. That you think will end up being a pre -- and the words loses sort of a false contender at this time -- for two teams we -- positive and a negative what you think."

Play from 55:43[55:43]" Positive and negative well I think. First all adults and -- shocking every line is they are quite. They -- are showing that they could. Go all the way they might be the one that it and it might be it in that yet -- a little bit of a -- here but what do they really have. And in their personnel help market neighborly count so you look at the golden that pre tender of every area an -- I mean Jack could earn their kind of -- well and they're saying that their big weakness. Weakness. Are getting the off while he's done pretty good so far better game but with time. He obviously is going to do nothing but improve it get on a good. Even keel with his knee and I get going and obvious that they can do nothing but in -- And I mean. The bills are up top right now along that last -- anybody game I think you've got four great. And it -- a really I ever really exciting and and you really can't pinpoint. Which one is going to be dominating column. You know ten and twelve weeks from now."

Play from 56:52[56:52]" that's true and I think that's you know it's good for football fans everywhere not really knowing. You know where your where your heavyweights are coming from. I don't talk a little bit earlier about you on the Tennessee Titans and their start and how I'm sure that. It's a little bit hard for people to get the grass on Tennessee even though they've gotten off to an undefeated start but that is as they are you know out there on top everybody right now. Buffalo started another one that -- intriguing but at the same time. I just because of what we've seen for the bills the last few years you kind going not an all funds sold about them just yet. And so because there are two teams that are toward the top -- pile -- now that you're still not sold on it certainly seems to me that anything can -- to be a crapshoot this season."

Play from 57:31[57:31]" Yes definitely like and I think it makes it exciting even in the NFL on all the players in the NFL coursing. More than anything here that anything can happen you know the better team on the field on the given day. One that's walking away with a win now you know anything can happen in the right."

Play from 57:50[57:50]" No there's no doubt about that this team. You know is going to you know. In in you've alluded to this will -- earlier -- Tom Brady had said -- you know this team you know teams generally don't. Really kind of takes things seriously in terms of full looking ahead until you get the Thanksgiving or that's when we feel what the real season really gets started at what you want to do. Before that point in time with just kind of like stay an even keel as best can't stand the mixed don't get too far if you too far ahead don't worry about it. I don't focus on Nevin to get -- don't get too far behind is really what your which kind of payment for so because this is such a along halt sometimes it's very difficult to get. -- good word for this it it's sometimes hard to get candid comments I think for the players from time to time. That would because you know -- they've got jobs to do. They're trying to do what we're asking about that people want to know. And yeah football such an emotional sport. It's almost surprising to get non emotional on emotional responses from time to time but that's the byproduct of the nature of this season being a a marathon. Rather than a sprint from time to time and I think that's also why when you've seen inflammatory comments. Appear from time -- time like what Nick Hardwick said in the past but Richard Seymour which was talking about earlier how he you know. And it's certainly would add a little bit of a spice to the game you know this Sunday night with the Chargers. That's why we pounced on it so much somebody asked -- question before it's it you know what he does makes -- big deal over what players say. And quite frankly it's because well because -- outlandish it's usually eight. It's it's greater I mean -- you can count the number of players that say things outlandish basically on water two hands and you know Terrell Owens it probably over the top of that list right."

Play from 59:31[59:31]" Yes and he's known for that. But I have no you're absolutely right in and in more than anybody really knows how to -- focused and ignore that at an ignored aren't commenting on it. They do and -- in the least you know. They try to do about and that's without going overboard and creating bulletin. Board material whichever one you know claims that it is which I think it is an -- in this team. Is good and like a fat. That. Day here. They move forward they ignore it their best of their ability. But yeah if it -- and you don't hear any I don't hear from the lot at all they really really do try to keep poking and even if you go back and look at. Laugh and my first season with Dan. The height and and you know from I think it was game three ever go all the way. And and then -- I could understand how that pattern. They're not even look into it they're not even very acting like that about it and yet they needed it about it and you know this now. You pink and eat them almost -- baby -- taking it game by game that their -- approach like they all at. But more than anything I think the here I definitely am under inning why they take that approach and wide that they they work hard on the next game. That at at task at the you know for them. Take on -- I definitely -- more than anything and that. Eight -- colony one game and and -- awaited day prepare."

Play from 1:01:04[1:01:04]" You know that is kind of energy point that you make their because. That's so hard I think for people who aren't around the team or who don't understand football is much to really grasp. But I think this year it's turning out to be a lesson for everybody Patriots fans. And on Patriots fans like learning Italian way if there's never more evident a bit of time this would be it. In learning how to try to take it week from week because that's what this team is you know that's what this team has to do it did to get by in the try to improve."

Play from 1:01:33[1:01:33]" Great -- it's a long season it's definitely special and he's throwing an weeklong trip outlet NI you know and tough opponent Al. Definitely a long season and I think of more than anything I'm understanding there their game by game approach and it's hard to understand and it's hard didn't it. Not here players responding -- you know are buying at the other day but right they take -- in the best way they can and and I think. Everybody should know that they they do nothing but take it -- use it to their advantage for."

Play from 1:02:03[1:02:03]" Christina appreciate your Spirit a couple of minutes for this -- on the show it's always good to get your perspective. It when you look at this football team right now. Where do you see them going from here based on your talking with the team. Based on your conversations with the guys and what you guys are working on and whether or not you see a big upside. Or short upside and not a shortsighted bed but is this team in your estimation that could still be in a for the long haul."

Play from 1:02:39[1:02:39]" I think well of course they have the -- now on the players do they have the talent. And the only thing they do from one game to the next improve on -- that they may. All the Dolphins game might have been a bit of again -- kind of the word. I think -- the Dolphins got the better of them but I don't think that they're going to let that happen again. And if you're going to take from that they're going to learn from and they're going to use the game by game approach go from one to the next and look at the pony and it -- have been coaching. They have that the players to do it they have the talent and I think this team is going to be fine year."

For the most part although he's had some great moments and lift the team on his shoulders to take -- to a winner to. At this time you have to consider them a bit of surprise and a negative sense. To make some big news today if you hadn't heard. Wide receiver Martin Marvin Harrison. Was had not been charged. With that April shooting in north Philadelphia. Apparently it was a nightclub blow that that he owned and I guess there was a shooting outside. This nightclub -- with the shooting it happened with a gun that was licensed. To him. The police investigation into this incident is still open he remains released you know he's certainly -- remains out but he is also maintained his innocence. Well in non involvement but the alleged victim. Today the alleged victim in the shooting instance gentleman by the name of Dwight Dixon. Has filed a civil suit today against. Marvin Harrison. He's claiming that he suffered serious and permanent injuries. In a severe shock to his nerves nervous system as a result -- the shooting on this is could have come out through the Philadelphia daily news today. -- Harrison did acknowledge to. Philly police detectives that he had been in a fight. With Dixon before the shooting took place but he said he did not have anything to do with the physical shooting itself. Still waiting to hear we're getting any kind of common -- and or his attorney or his agent but so far nothing. But the lawsuit was filed last month and just. Came to the public -- today it's looking for a 100000 dollars in damages. And looks like it's gonna go for whether Harrison is charged. Criminally in the incident or not not here's a guy. -- quite frankly has been you know above it all we -- during his time as a player would you not agree with a and I -- a guy that seems have been pretty good citizen great player great teammate. Obviously one of the -- wide receivers in the league and in if anybody has com if anybody has chemistry. Going between them it is Peyton Manning to Marvin Harrison one of the great combinations. Of all time in the National Football League quarterback to receiver. Of all time I don't think I'm making huge statement by saying that and yet here's a guy that's getting tarnished now. It maybe it is of his own doing who -- wrong place wrong time what have you we all know how fragile that can be. But here's the team in that you in the cold that. Has never really -- Tarnished. -- scandal -- scandals not like you know the Patriots spy gate and not like you know -- other things that have happened. You know over time in the NFL. The Colts have been one of those teams that which is largely untouchable. You know that they were above at all. And I don't know that was just because of Peyton Manning or it Tony Dungy or some of the other -- personalities on this team players in the game. But it just seemed like they were almost too clean for the good. And this does a lot today to tarnishing that image Italy team that has struggled from the gate. Certainly some of that because of Manning. And a lot of it because you know that lost Bob Sanders as well for a time with the entry in. You know they've had some injuries on the offensive line and they've had some inconsistencies. On both sides the football even some inconsistencies from Adam Vinatieri. It just this team has not caught certainly offensively speaking they have not caught fire. Like we have seen them do. And so there is some. Consistent inconsistency. If if that's a phrase. That the Colts have that you know they kind of share with the Patriots Patriots -- have consistently been inconsistent. To this point in the season. And they share that kind of with the Colts to a teams that have been contenders over the last several years. That have been relegated to the middle of the pack. For lack of a better phrase this season based on what we've seen -- wise and the other teams that are surprising in the AFC. This is though it's just it's surprising story. The plaintiff's case his attorney as a -- Dixon attorney today said it's our position in the Marvin Harrison was the shooter. But he says even if you believe the other theory Marvin gun was still used in the shooting so he was negligent for leaving the weapon where someone else could -- it. I have to say that that seemed to be a pretty good argument where that's concerned. And because of that I'd have to say -- important. He's going to have a very very very hard time not proving some sort reliability of course we'll realize this is not a criminal case it's a civil case against him. And I I wish him luck I also wish to coleslaw contrite to me don't."

Play from 1:20:22[1:20:22]" Put a story like this. They they you know they just they use the whole us against them us against the world. You know chip that they have used so well over the last several years and they were able to use it again last year and it worked for the most part. I don't know that the Colts can use it this way because we're probably criminal. Offense here number one."

Play from 1:21:11[1:21:11]" Number two were also part about a guy who is largely been untouchable. Unscathed. Generally thought to be a good guy. Play from 1:22:45[1:22:45]" He just got a little bit more difficult for the Indianapolis Colts that's one of the big items on the NFL agenda today. Another story as well coming out of Philadelphia. But I still believe we are better we just to show it I'm embarrassed for the way I played. I didn't do enough to win the game for my team and I take that to heart I want the ball in my hand when the game is on the line and if I had it. I have to make -- play I'll take that responsibility. You know that's refreshing in -- sense. That's refreshing to see a player willing to take that kind of responsibility on his shoulders and directly blame himself for a team's performance over the last couple weeks. But I wonder in in in another sense if that isn't serve any kind of distract -- Can you see that side of the story and here's a quarterback who's obviously very vocal. He's he's a lightning rod for attention. He certainly popular now it looks. To me that these kind of gotten his game back a lot of sense although the Eagles have failed over the last couple weeks is as you know with those losses. Maybe he's doing it to charge up the team may be doing to take the pressure off of his teammates and some of the criticism that the currently getting. You know in and around Philadelphia. So long and we were talking about this I think. Was it Tuesday it was -- or it was timlin last week that we're talking about how we came down to grammatical or August house Ian. Patriots obviously debate the right choice where that's concerned going with the youth and you know Stephen -- Stansky has been one of the great stories I think on written on heard. Consistent. Just like what -- Brady against Kansas City and what was seen some of the other you know stars that have gone down this year. It appeared in a lot of cases not all but a lot hits could have been avoidable. If players had considered before it I don't think that that's easy to do. In fact I would be willing to say I think that's darn near impossible to do think about the hit before you deliberate. I think it's I think it's ridiculous. I think what. Players and teams are going to have to realize. Is that from here on out. If you hit a player in a certain area with a -- in the hit in the head or below the label to me you're going to be fine. And it's just going to be the cost of doing business. In the NFL that's that's all you going to be able to chalk it up to the cost of doing business. And that if you're the one that you know. That with the club areas in the red seats in the fidelity investment club house is that the we have Tuesday. That you know -- Tennessee to take some of that sense of urgency that a lot of the fans. You know we didn't have that old you know Spartan atmosphere that helped the cup and -- up -- and make them more vocal like we headed you know. Foxboro stadium. And frankly you know you could see where some of the amenities have a stadium could soften fans somewhat. Fortunately that hasn't been a real problem. For the most part since we've had Gillette Stadium but I could see how someone from the outside looking in. Could come to the conclusion especially consider you know Patriot place and its development in so many options and -- choices. For fans on game day to come through. And get involved with and then all of a sudden you lose focus on why you're there to begin with which is all about the -- a football game. And so if you. Lose the focus of the football game. Does that take away any more of the emotion. Out of the event itself frankly I could see why that conclusion is reached. On the the Patriots feel like it's a problem otherwise -- certainly don't think it would built it but then again we all know that you know you know him. It's it's it's quite a venture. They also did this because they wanted to extend. Some of that Patriot feeling. -- rounded the area. And on more than just the ten you know regular season game days that they have in Foxborough every year. And that's why you know they develop the whole year round aspect of the restaurants and themes and all -- of what's going -- they want to fans be able to be apart and come out to the stadium or to the stadium area on more than just that in Sunday's. During the NFL regular season. It was ten different. Ways to look at obviously. By the -- just in case you're interested. The number 32 the last team. On this list with the I guess that would mean they were the worst fans in the entire NFL. That would be the Arizona Cardinals at number 32. Even though the new stadium has helped draws sellout crowds. Want to challenges. And too many fans in that region -- latched on apparently they say to other NFL teams. So anyway for what it's worth. It's good cannon fodder it's good to consider. Of the Patriots fans your number rate you're number eight. Least going to protect temple pilots so let's wrap up the program today going to give you an opportunity to listen to right eight.
