[0:40]" Actually know John is not here on Patriots -- today John is somewhere probably lost. In the mountains of West Virginia he's doing his normal duties for. -- in radio. [1:52]" Probably we'd like to because not all of that news good. Let's start with the good though that he. Coming off the 417 win over Denver was nice way to bounce back from losing that atrocious game in San Diego couple weeks ago. But it was a game in which they suffered some loss to the Patriots. Notably Rodney Harrison going out. With the -- Air separation whatever it is exactly that they want to call it he's done for the year -- people whether or not his career is over. And that's not good news or if -- Patriots and losing Tom Brady in week one. The the leader of the offense and in many respects now losing the leader of the defense the heart and soul maybe at least in Rodney Harrison. The other good news in that game. Sammy Morris filling in for the the recently placed on IR Laurence Maroney. Having a 130 or -- rushing yards in the first half of that game but then not coming back in the second half. And -- due to an injury and we never on again the next game. There's you know I I I wouldn't go out and say that he's going to. And up on IR because it look like him you know any manager is coming back from whatever that is. -- holding out hope for him but does not -- that it has such a great performance and then. Gets injured kind of reminded me of last year when he had that great game against Cincinnati anymore. And them having a great game in in Dallas and filling in Maroney and and he got hurt in the Dallas game and then and this season but. Again I think -- hopefully he's going to come back maybe not this week the early but I think we'll be a more again before the year is out. And then. Obviously you know Maroney going on I ours is easy. Is even more of a pressing issue with not more is getting hurt but LaMont Jordan hasn't been. In the line of the last few weeks but again bill was a little bit optimistic about Eric earlier this week and on him and yeah I -- day but he didn't say it in in a way to you know was a negative he kind of gave. Who were there the impression that LaMont would be. Would be soon return into the lineup and that's going to be a good thing for the -- But I troubled. Controlled about Maroney and his. His future with the team not to not to from the injury -- point but you know to the NBA's third here. With the team and usually by now you know whether or not you're running back is. Is. Is NFL caliber."
[4:35]" Because this team has now scored. A total of 47 touchdowns."
[4:40]" On I was a year ago but not. -- you know. Maroney have any concern about Maroney or the Patriots running I'm concerned both about Maroney and the Patriot in him concern about him because I think he's really I think you're really is and I. Guy he's a good guy -- hard fun loving guy. And the media. Has a maturity issues that -- deal with. You know -- over -- last year at the end of the season having -- 400 yard games in the last six games had a had a great run near than any -- to be healthy seem to be coming back he was very positive. In the off season about you know wanted to come in and proven health this year and you know -- any had a view minor injuries thing and I'm up here and there causing him to miss some time and then all of us a knee tried a comeback and and."
[5:29]" Play and I are going to roller coaster ride for the poor guy and I think there's talent there but. I'm concerned that. He's done. He's not to be able villa and whether he does here or not. You know it's it's not going to happen this year out -- this year but you know going into a year or next year he comes back. It to. Doesn't bowled well right now. His -- future. The other thing that I. Happen Deion on ESPN -- with green about me here there's a report. On ESPN about Tom Brady's surgery. The morning in the Boston Herald I was reading carry injury in one on the line beat reporters who covers team. Had a story about. Tom Brady's -- and his rehabilitation from his knee surgery now we all know that he had surgery earlier this month. And then about a week later had to follow up surgery to clean out what was believed to be an inspection as a result of that surgery. Now and -- report today. And -- and right now Brady has undergone two further procedures after that. Tried to to continued it to treat this in action that came as a result of the knee injury. At four surgeries now and the end of we're not even through this month doctor Phil loves me and yeah well one dot some doctors do apparently. But now when -- is reporting. That the Patriots are not happy with the situation because they had wanted according the source I talked to winning -- they're not happy because. They wanted to Brady to have the surgery done by doctor here and in the bought an area doctor Phil. Now I don't believe Tom that doctor all the mergers but. I'm excited to go to and I left coast with whom he -- him -- more comfortable according against that a report. Or -- talked when he -- And that sort holes are all of that. Tom is looking at months and not week in terms of bargaining over the things. I would whom obviously with a with a knee injury it's gonna take months but. I -- from from what the quote. Saying it sounds like the recovery from the more recent cleaning out of the of the knee could take months that's -- I'm gathering from from the way it's worded it doesn't go on and on any further slow crawl on the bottom screen and that's what. The information is that that is or isn't going to take weeks a month not week or Tom and orange assume their efforts -- the most recent. For ager oh. You know you get in the the whole issue of whether or not. His recovery is going to be -- back as ours you know being ready in time for next season. And you know how well he will be. Like -- so when he does come back and how how -- How this changes the -- know Brady. You know -- right now it's hard to tell. Because we don't really have any anymore information than what's being reported. By the horse -- winning X orient and McCarron to -- had her in her Pete Carroll today. Oh the -- of foreign to hosting. A ran -- candidate has won two games in -- under interim coach. Jim has to look like he's trying to Phifer. Of the full time job there had men -- Louis. Patriot coming off an impressive. Win."
[9:09]" Monday night over the Broncos. Let's try to focus on the positive they are 42 era and only one game behind the division. Leading. Buffalo Bills -- five and one. I I suppose things could be a lot work you know Metcalf -- first or starting. Quarterback. Or -- I Ledee had the job on any team. -- guide in the foreign to now they have a chance this week and I think of very good chance to go five and and the bills. Played Miami. Division. Opponent. And the division game serve and never be taken for granted. So I I don't think it's it's on an automatic that -- going to take to roll over Miami especially you know the way Miami came in here and New England a few weeks ago when he and it's of the Patriots. You know they have a good guys and things go the right way the ball bounce our way knowing and to be tied again for first place after the week. At five and -- with buckle that if that way things shake out and all in all given what they've they've had to suffer through the first half of the 2008 he's I don't think the pats -- As bad a shape as maybe people might have expected when somber and went down in the first quarter of that game in the opener against Kansas City. What do you think -- are you concerned at all about the news about Brady are you concerned about Maroney. Concerned about Rodney Harrison going out and earn about Sammy Morris. -- touched on the the front seven which. What ought to be the strength of the -- and coming into the season. Richard Seymour of course talking all off season about how glad to be finally healthy again and that he was looking for getting back to that Pro Bowl. Caliber that it played out a few years ago when. You know showed some positive signs on. On Monday night against the Broncos. They got a couple act granted they were later on in the game when when you know might have been. A foregone conclusion that there were going to win at that point but it was good to Vietnam the last. I'd like to Seymour that liked it a lot more of that -- Vertically the front three getting and I. Getting getting elected in -- difference a game they had Tito Solomon running around for a life back there. You know Jay Cutler doesn't in his hand and Vince Wilfork helmet. On the first -- Of the game there on Monday night. You know is -- a different ball game. You know like a date the Broncos were more kind of go to their running game a little bit earlier than they probably want it to their game plan because of because of that that injury in and you could tell his and is it happened that that -- was -- Pena left for a little while it's all. Patrick ran it back up came in but then -- tough it out came back in the second half. I think this would have been it had potential to be a lot different game colored and it hurt because. The pats weren't getting the kind of pressure on him. That they were on a relevant a couple of weeks earlier and -- go and and that's kind of what I expected of them all year was that there were going to have. Vrabel and Thomas on the outside being able to -- You know those of the positions that they're more comfortable in on the outside you know ladies played in the -- I was able but. They're play makers. When they're on the outside and and they proved that last year Crable had his best season twelve and a half sacks. And physically he he had his best season last year Agee came on late after a Rosey Colvin got -- out for the year and they. And it moved into the outside he started. Wreaking havoc on teams that their most comfortable and so far this year and I haven't seen that. That that they've they've been able to follow up on that and I'm not sure if that's. I'm I'm going to assume that because scheme the game plan each week is different and Inca defensive coordinator Dean Pees may have -- that. And now one of his recent press conferences that you know he was going to let them loose there. In the next game or never and they kinda hard to see that in in in the Denver game. We need a lot more that because it the front seven they'll. The most talented part of this team not taking. Anything away from the secondary but they have you know they struggled would be. Can and this year. Hard for them not to be here with the that the law that suffered the shuffling around though. That they had to do different starters opposite Ellis -- each week -- colonials had struggles Lou -- has been in there. I'm very surprised that. Rookie second round pick Terrence Wheatley was deactivated for that Monday night game I really thought. From what we saw of him in training camp that he was going to be. Maybe even starting right now. The -- Horry -- and Hobbs on how to be on the other side of materials -- you know healer. Somebody else but it stepped up and taken out of the corner spot but. It's been you know world we're going in we -- he's a normal at the midway point. Of the NFL. And -- the midway point of the Patriots. Scheduled because they had the bye week earlier so. Week nine in Indy will be the the exact midpoint of the season but at this point. You know surprises. Not necessarily a good price but. Devastating injuries. And yet they're still there -- barking at number one. Old right there in the hunt they can. Like -- an earlier their four and are looking at possibly five into after this week. And if things go right away. Buffalo losing to Miami this week or even next coming weeks Buffalo may be -- come down to earth a little bit. They could be -- you know -- to be right back on top -- than anyone thinks. -- that anyone may have thought after the after that that first game and Brady. -- losing hair an obvious thing. If it's. As and you don't want that because on one of the most loved Patriots on the I think they have a chance though with meriwether -- Anders. Sort of mix things let it matter whether leading the team in interceptions right now you maybe. Keep him back a little bit and Anders do what what are in -- Harrison kind of get him more to -- we try to get him. To make some plays up there the way Harrison did and and and -- kind of -- back at that it is both quarter. And it in you know might be better suited to a -- back in coverage a little bit. I'm not concerned from from a tactical standpoint. About the loss of her because I think we -- development now ought to meriwether and and and I like but I think they might be able to fill that void. On the field now from a leadership and locker room ordering an acronym is going to be hard love going to be hard to replace a guy like Harrison. And yeah it. Until Tom even talked about it yesterday about about the leadership that he brings. It. He's obviously going to be missed from that from the point of view but I don't think they're going to be so bad off. On the field with -- run because. Like is that I think I think meriwether and Anders if you if you. News. Mix it up with them the way. The way we just got here. I like -- Iowa I actually like there's. Like their chances back there the corner the corner by going to be another area or. And where things there. In an improvement. Put it that way but Adam. Jim guy thank where greater Patriots dot com email after a 58543742. Don't ever want to call and what started off. In the inbox with Brittany from now and then -- boys. Came actually and heard bread for it or think -- thing about Brady and coming back to when he ten. With a man heard wrong. I know in another surgery surgery but from what I read on his website it's -- like you wouldn't. They'll be -- for 2009. Yeah Brittany I think I would I would expect Brady to be back. By next season but again -- the reports were just getting today about. The third and or surgery that he had this month. And that back potential -- that he could cause. That could that could alter that time frame. For Brady recovery I don't know that means he'll miss the entire he's on the item in again it's too -- we don't have enough information. Two. Comment with any. Certainty on it but. From minute to make an educated guess I would think that it would still be on -- to be a timetable for Brady to be back by 2009. And I and I didn't your -- at about two points and they were having for autism but. And Brittany continues on another note jurors if you guys heard any pitcher Friday last week and -- called and told. Dale hollow in my program that -- that they want to talk about football and that's what they thought about the upcoming Broncos game and how to respond like. I think I don't care about. [19:43]" friend is doing ridiculous in the -- that. With the spread out the spread the guys that. It's ridiculous here but not making any money can't. Neutral court. So. That's where we are we gotta we -- game against the Rams weekend. I -- the pats chances and went through obviously. Playing at home coming -- the big win. You know we we said St. Louis and little better surge in the past week they got rid of got Linehan -- coach and put. And has who has a coordinator at that point. In that by. And that -- talent on that team Torry Holt. Marc Bulger. Even Jack you know we know little bit nicked up and their own. Play makers on the fans that Leonard Little. And but pats are at home they have some good moments and coming off this big win against Denver I think from what I'm not a castle like. That he's he's he's taking baby steps but he is making progress and by that. A couple of examples there was the yeah. The series where -- first touchdown to Moss I think one of -- Miller's son on PFW reference earlier this week. On on that first drive where -- at -- that first -- there was a play where he was sort of washed out of the pocket. Went to his right side. And try to find Moss on the on the right out of the end zone Champ Bailey came in. And knocked the ball awaits at the last second but it was other plays where. Cassel had a lot of real estate in front of him and could've easily tucked the ball and kept running it and maybe try to get a first down. But thought better out and tried to get the ball to -- And couple plays later he actually did find -- and on a play that was a very similar sort of a closed out and was sprawling and and and could've. Maybe tuck the ball and -- with that but he stuck with -- and on the open receiver. And made -- made a good play now maybe a couple of weeks ago. He might have you know. -- and try to run with the ball or try to gate and try to find tomorrow or held -- or or maybe even thrown it away but. You know little things like that which can buy your next second half second or two. Makes a difference when your quarterback at -- level I think we're starting to eat at -- you know he. Yes he opening. Act way too many times at six. In a Monday night game verses Denver and and probably of those I think you could probably only lay the blame. On the offensive line for one may be two of them I think the others were cases. You know -- to. Getting a little happy feet back there and trying to make make something out of nothing I think. But I think he is making progress and I think. And should. Shouldn't give him a little bit more -- were getting a lot of email from people from from PFW readers early on about. You know -- concern they were about the way we're playing in it you know again. Realize the guy who is now four and two after first six games. And not to better position to be and it isn't. You know did he and Chris are not having a lot of experience in college and even got the pros cons of being behind Brady but. You know he's getting in the game and and and he's leading them to win. You know the -- they had were were devastating losses and they were and there are blowout. But I'm seeing enough. Enough improvement out of him week to week and I'm and I'm getting less and -- and earned. About. -- leading his team. Maybe no way to the Super -- but I think at least to the playoffs and maybe you know one or two games in I wouldn't be surprised though -- can. You can. If -- all the way because the NFL this year is not. Not a dominant -- or not there remained dominant teams would you look at Indianapolis is having a horrible year. The dominant team near east record wise right now Tennessee. Unbeaten at six know nobody expected that coming into this year. I'm predicting they'll lose -- Indianapolis to. Tough division game on a Monday night. You know there -- no they're not going to go Eckstein an old -- and it. I'm picking -- in what a nominal upset this week because the tight favored by four. But you know the -- or five and one. Tennessee's XNO. Buffalo's five and one. And out -- The Bronco. At four and three. Are leading that division San Diego three and four right behind them. You know -- or San Diego had a good game again knowing and a couple of -- over there they're a Jekyll and Hyde team one week they're putting up. Thirty some point being a Patriot next week again -- That the week before that that they're just way -- and this is not a dominant teams so there was ever a year for all the bad things in the fall the Patriots losing. Brady losing Maroney losing Harris and you know you almost have to you almost -- it is the year for it to happen because. There's really not a team out there that. Clear cut dominant team like -- you had Indy and New England were clearly the cream of the crop. In the air Ian and it would ever going through them I don't you that this year mean right now are the records are showing. Like at 51 Pittsburgh -- for -- I. I have a hard time believing that. That DA the wrote to the Super Bowl going to go for either one of those cities. I think by the end of the year I think it'll even out. And you know the bye week the the two by which are up for grabs I thank. Were getting to that point though were things starting -- and start to get to. To play up pitchers start to come into orbit more focus. Again. Where Brady or Patriots dot com the email address phone number 5854. Three. 7482. Effect and box here. -- from nova Scotia. Sounds weird but if it was going to win it will be up to rookie deep threat. Donnie Avery. And then he continues where would you rate Cassel. Among active you besides a top path."
[26:45]" Your question -- is it a Dick Lennon is first female. I can't -- be reading the sons of bees left you'll."
[26:55]" That's really come around you know that Todd Todd is really Guerrero taking care is he's he's got my back I appreciate that present a lot. And let that with how -- him in the game. You know. You hate to go the cliche at any given Sunday but. As we've seen in the league this year it is it is that way more than ever any given Sunday it could happen. I don't see it happening this week but how could it happen. You know Cassell could take a step back he. Throw an interception or you with the wrong time -- could get a call Zach. And -- cost I mean you know at the wrong time down to there in the red zone or you know critical third down. If not moving the ball. And and St. Louis defense can take advantage of turn overs. I think that their big. The opportunity to make them. To take advantage and -- point game is get turnovers. Off of knowing off I don't think on their own a going to be able to do that. And they're going to need to Stewart in Patriots territory most likely because I think. You know Paul Perillo mentioned earlier on on on PFW progress about the game and that it was had an offensive line this year. -- shuffling the starting lineup I think. The perfect opportunity for the front seven have known -- Who. Get the kind of pressure. An opposing quarterbacks that we thought all along were going to need from them. Now -- question was how does not -- it was when the game again I think it all going to come down turn over four. New England turnovers and you know -- the way cast and playing in the -- the the offense. Has been under his leadership which has been. Steady and effective. If not overly spectacular time. -- for Monday night against the Broncos. You know to this team is making a lot of mistake in the way of turnovers the act number yes. Little bit too high. Going for a record actually I think -- on this page but. I don't think the red deer in the headlights look is what we're going to need from -- anymore he's he's. He's growing at the role and I think he's doing doing well that way so. You know the only hope I think it was as a winning it again -- is and forcing turnovers. One. Where I rate him among active QBs. That's earlier question. You know I hate -- the ball might try to go with brought murdered near the top. I think Manning is among the best team is having a bad year of course. But I they've Manning. Roethlisberger. Probably near top U I -- what do -- I was gonna say Rivers he's he's a little Lincoln -- his team has been inconsistent. I'd like to get thought so from Russell back -- front from me again who I think is on the line with a."
[30:16]" Little bit earlier than usual today Russell. I don't know if I'm Greg. I'm good damn I don't. I don't I needed drank any them water up than. Been talking my head off for the past forty minute. What do you think that -- from nova Kosher wrote in now where would we rate cast almanac the QBs in the point he's putting him in in the top path -- league. As a north of -- going to have to agree with what --"
[30:42]" That's that's tough because five games as hard even get a gauge yet. You know it it's amazing how good -- quarterback -- looked any quarterback. When you put together the running game to the Patriots did Monday night and that was big part of what you're able to run like -- you're able to play action pats. You can dictate tempo. You hang onto the ball and Denver -- give themselves -- dutrow favorite turn it over five times but. You know New England I think it's the first time in the Belichick Eric that they've run for that many yards. We were called back what early ninety's. As far as a running game in terms of yards for them. Now you know they really put it all together and when you don't have their running game eat the -- And the Peyton Manning in the Tom Brady depending on how your offense is structured -- the Patriots. It's something totally different. But eventually with no. Solid. We saw what happened the Super Bowl there really had no running game to fall back -- yeah. And so on so eventually it will come back to budget it in the you know what. But that's -- sticky it's. One of those people who don't want like quarterback to carry -- I want my quarterback to be vital part of that treatment in the -- a guy who. Can be instituting but you know we've seen throughout history -- you know these that the quarterback who put up the most. Touchdown Patten handled it the five times that a quarterback has thrown forty or more touchdown passes and feet and Eric. A guy and you need to -- lost Super Bowl. -- 49 and lost in the divisional playoff at the week went by scoring if you bowl yeah. We'll watch the Super Bowl 48 -- Marino didn't make the play -- would be 244. And of course. The only person as Kurt Warner -- 411999. They won in -- the anomaly thinking with the highest scoring teams of all time 589 by the Patriots last year -- Loss to Superbowl I think he's six by the bike."
[32:38]" in 1998. In I don't get to this Super Bowl. 541 by the Redskins watched Super Bowl by 829. To the only greater when the Raiders used to be good -- So well or that many points at 541. While I think that lets you easily lets get that. I would hope that with a record all the biking broke it in 1998 that."
[33:00]" That's weird because when I think of just that me personally when I think of high scoring offense that that -- team never can come from."
[33:08]" No but I mean that listen they they scored the fight 41 the regular season they didn't play the Rams in the divisional play as a -- 51 on the board against that. Then held on for dear life and some people say controversial against the 49ers in the NFC title game point four point one and then they got a field goal. And a touchdown and missed extra point and -- squeaked out by the -- 38 -- night."
[33:30]" That was. That was thighs and often right yeah I guess so what -- and in. Bunker art monk early brow yacht -- Reagan. The original thought was a tight end on the."
[33:43]" I would see I think I want to see Didier would dare. I think we do Eduardo if there I want to -- Rick walker would stare -- speaking let a couple of those but I don't think all of."
[33:54]" Quick and good talent that I'm out at football. That you know well yeah. I probably are thinking of them horn I think of -- going off."
[34:05]" I think you know what I think -- it is you know because you know the Redskins were in arresting. The editor ever wrote never really -- dynasty but you know what the 49ers what went into the Super Bowls in the lead in the eighty's and ninety's with the Redskins that work. And fairly easily they want to watch Superbowl -- the strike Q when you only played nine games. Than they got to the Super Bowl the following year kind of prove it wasn't a fluke but I got back -- 87. And 87 that Gary Clark Ricky Sanders were there who were USFL guys. You know so their offense kinda changed a little being -- you know event in 91 of course he had. Marcus Sanders and Clark commitment back to change with. You know what -- library joke bring their goal line guy and so wanted Sammy Smith -- with a linebacker on that team. That's right play into how we can restart but he member of that team so."
[34:55]" To me it was in the backfield that he and I can't let yet at that there was a one game one area -- run support your extol the Super Bowl record at about about middle of September the following you're going to cut."
[35:07]" Oh Russell curious about. Your thoughts about new England's win Monday night -- football. Number numbers wise 41 haven't looked very impressed. Of course they had the via the injuries. That mountain acting more or your thoughts overall on on how New England looked. -- playing that. Are really struggling Broncos."
[35:34]" Well I think you know what you go back to when Brady was -- okay and then they got ready to play the Jets. I think this was the kind of game -- not necessarily the score. Eric that you envisioned when he played the Jets in week two. Lot of running not exactly the more the more of the four Patriots. What was the most balanced team of the Super Bowl team. What Corey Dillon -- to their play calling your terms to run Jason run place and that place was almost identical. And stuff -- you know again -- was with a different style of offense for them and with the kind of offense that Bill Belichick. But by -- guess and not conversation with him. I finally felt comfortable left that showed how great Tom Brady well I just talked for almost. Don't let him run that style of offense of course -- also -- six or seven years. To put that cut fallible offense had to control that offense. As well so and all to get that talent. Actually reading -- there was big Wes Welker -- but they kind of build towards those only take what we think I would marveled about the Patriots during this -- Is there and their fourth Super Bowl teams at least these three winning teams. All different types of football team. You know if you could never -- 11. We keep good luck what he'd like underwear one week ago past forty by times and are they always kept up they don't what it -- what what they were going to do."
[36:58]" And I've ever hit what we -- last year. In that before. -- hardly know what no other team is there that really except for public."
[37:07]" But unfortunately -- you run -- double considerable ushered it happened to the other teams we've mentioned. You know it can take -- Tulowitzki and -- just serviceable affected by scoring so fast. And you know you combined effect of this was like kind of a veteran defense. For the New England Patriots you know eventually with the little like big big play awful and Super Bowl or anything it just like a little things -- it -- The Patriots -- all we've done well. In the Super Bowl itself dignity just come back and that the belittled so public can call database out into the web mail -- Didn't mean anything when Ellis uncharacteristic right yet for the won a Super Bowl. That was one of the key plays of the game on the B Carolina yeah. What does he got out kick the ball out of Beno accepted that the Patriots scored the first quarter and -- meaning nothing. But I also -- you may. He. By game's end did things were a little out of kilter it like you -- uncharacteristic right and so put them. It is and they did that style football that they played Monday night I don't care -- against you know. When you run the ball with that type of commitment that's the one game plan that is portable. And works just about everywhere. But."
[38:19]" Now you. You were you affected us in Denver's rush the atrocious. Anymore runs like gang but in the first half but doesn't come out -- feel the second half. -- ago. That they're four and game plan that where you got the rookie in Jarvis Green Ellis and Kevin all sort of balance in the load for the rest of the way. From what we've seen on the injure report the participate reports as they're called DelHomme all -- where I yeah -- I don't. Habit I believe yesterday I think a LaMont Jordan who has missed time in the last week. Still listed on their but had full participation in practice which is great -- I believe I can't remember an off hand but I. Anymore on that -- two and and I think he had full participation as well. But but I'm not going to say that was one of -- But all the sudden like before the game Laurence Maroney we find out -- put on IR. We know we don't have him there. Like what we saw out of not anymore. -- when he was playing like a subtle LaMont Jordan. The problem now is. Are these guys healthy and can they do that whether he's animal can have the luxury of handing off to these guys. And doing what you said basically managing a game letting them run it and not throw it as much are we going to -- that that's kind of the."
[39:56]" Well that's factored out totally on board would -- and and I think. On who would have bet yeah I think that's that's. You know aren't that good that we don't we talk back Carolina. A few minutes go to different day but if you noticed over the years years Carolina got to the Super Bowl. And even in the used to -- contended -- to a degree this year and so want. Now they've had very solid backs. Okay he had a monster year deities or the Super Bowl and so and got her want to get -- later DeShaun Foster do you Angelina -- but more than anything else -- mindset and John Fox -- always been a team with that offensive line I think what do you think notion learned the other night. Derek went to push came dished out of the New England Patriots could help people. And that's certainly pushed up. And you know. Changing your game plan in midstream. Where did you see that especially if successful they were last year is very very hard. But if the New England Patriots offensive line. Run blocking wise you know and I don't listen I don't Matt Cassel been sacked a lot that I I chalked it up I think border. A little -- his hesitancy. And inexperience more than anything else -- know they only gave up 21 sacks lecture at a very give up 26. But. You know come out and play the kind of football. Would that run determination that the play Patriots played Monday. That -- its success. Be successful in some regards. I don't want to say that it mattered who to Beckett. But to a degree -- knocked. Do you know the stable back you're talking about once Maroney who at least he's not coming back Morris Kirk. LaMont Jordan you know banged up this well so might be a rookie but will keep accept flourished. I mean we we got to rookie running back straight male. -- shots and Tennessee yeah they Matt Forte in Chicago where the top of the league in rushing you know. So I think even more determined game plan and offensive line that necessarily. Put the jacket."
[42:06]" Newton at that that's a great point bring up I think I can't remember -- was on the show or or on our our other show that improper but a -- be a month or so ago we talked around the yeah the topic of if you're running back in the league. You're you're either good right away and you can tell. Or you're not always that that sort of like you know if you're gonna be you're going to be a good running back in the league you kind of know right away. All the as a rookie or second year guy you kind of know. Even if you're sharing time or coming off the bench -- everything kind of -- that. In most cases and now the argument were thrown around is that true or not what what are what are well."
[42:49]" I mean what would you talk about the success rate of rookies. In terms and and and listening to a thousand yards or doesn't mean what used to me. OK. Let me -- Okay. I'll throw this out here in the last time there wasn't. A rookie running back at least one get a thousand yards in the --"
[43:10]" The last time -- I I don't I'll just broad random guess and 9974."
[43:19]" Now it not that far back -- 1992. Okay okay but let's put this way there have been three times as many rookie running backs get 1000 yards rushing. As Serbian rookie receivers are tight and get it out your receipt yeah. And into history -- it actually doesn't that I black QB to doubt in our rookie -- you get time to get great. My my point being any combined with two point you can tell sometimes now staying power became. But a lot of times you -- I mean you know you're -- guys. Who broke onto the scene. And -- even -- running backs. Who were rookies come in and flourish right away now if the rookie running back it is adept at picking up the blitz. Byrd swinging at a bad field baby not now but as far as pure running. If you hard stoplight I would run didn't -- And there are a lot of natural part that goes with that -- the receiver part get a little more complicated. Question really Terry Glenn or Randy Moss or any Anquan Boldin who you don't -- the world but it Marcus Cole -- That is -- an -- guy to adapt very very well running more precise route not rounding off their roots. Understanding zone coverages of the -- coverages and so want."
[44:35]" And and you think that that's. Really the reason why because as a running back is it really I'd from the you know the blocking schemes and -- catching out of backfield it's basically. You get the hand off and you just basically kind of either no hole or look for the opening where."
[44:50]" That's the way is this not a knock on rookie running backs in the least. -- yeah. Judgment if you ask me -- a rookie of the year. And we'll look at that are running back are we ever talking about. How they hit the public at the back field."
[45:05]" Not unless that one of their obvious drink."
[45:07]" Write about it it's like if we talked about a rookie defensive back and hit nine interceptions. Are we ever talk directly supports the rod of course not write again you know little idea what we weren't at their tackles and their sack. Even though they might -- covered -- we get the got a rookie here anyway couldn't not great numbers so it's not a good thing complete game. But if you rookie running back -- of 1400 yards he's more than likely the rookie of the year."
[45:34]" Yeah most likely yeah. Where Brady -- Patriots are com's email address a 585437. -- to the phone number or talking with. Baxter from ESP NN has done my -- the only man idea Guillen whose job it is point for hours a day seven days a week. To talk and analyze football. 365 days a year who -- more importantly. John as you -- not know Russell is. Somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia he heading to a universe -- urging him -- do tonight. West Virginia Auburn game."
[46:10]" Yeah. -- the biggest thing Gerut better okay okay strictly guys yet he's not going to canoe trip this week. My thoughts -- by a way to that up are aware of that up okay I guess just started out annihilate them though unless. The."
[46:30]" Yet John John calling the game tonight to ugly Korea in radio. So the he's and I guess there's not much cellphones are on the mountains up there anyway is not now or country really is mountain Aire country --"
[46:43]" Well yeah depending on where it looked so -- you know we talked -- given the signal here in -- basement this building since no one can only imagine but I'm sure. Chided you know it is being professional at the end. Might have -- progress he's quite time to get that is that."
[47:00]" Here it is rarely get and do and -- sorry about that stuff throws for Ramon. --"
[47:11]" Automatic -- Right. So overall your impressions from Monday night where you were you were impressed not only with the -- the way New England played."
[47:22]" Yes yes yes so what okay now again. Issues -- obviously. Issues with me you know as far as pass blocking. Now which itself is going to get sacrifice when you're trying to change your victory here. Something -- sacrificing combined with the inexperience. I've -- castle but that's style of football that they can look at the Tennessee Titans the other day. Okay you can say what you want to Kansas City -- understand -- but 332. Yard rushing. It's 332. Yards rushing yeah. Okay if anybody could do that every week they want it but they don't. You know that's that's determination that's physical football. Give Patriots always got a reputation for being a physical football team and I think they can you know let them. Couple early turnovers by the -- coach Jay -- finger X that are experts that are that doesn't explain how they got knocked off glad a couple of times -- disheartening. If you're besides. What you know what team is staff -- Juan. And you can't stop them and I believe in both at least one instance that -- that one turned into about a watt a forty yard run yeah you know yeah. That was all the fact that it just -- alike -- right away. The Marlins and light essentially did the Denver -- we saw the Denver earlier Kansas City -- 11 game this year. And our job to get a 190 yard rushing into touched but again it's more of the fact. That the Patriots stuck with that. More than anything else and it again that's style of football would it will serve them well against the St. Louis -- what it. Regardless of who's in the backfield quick I think regardless of -- in the backfield that now it's like it's a rookie. Okay or or what we don't know what the playing time these last couple -- it it could very well be LaMont Jordan indoor anymore -- it -- a good but again. I think that against wide and St. Louis is -- an overpowering decency you know they've won the last two games. -- doubt that little problems stopping -- run. That stopped a lot of the want to hang around. At the ball stop the run. -- which can build -- that worked in the in the thirties forties the forties and fifties or every decade."
[49:38]" It always does it always works. Before we before we get on in and look at some of the rest of the vote of the league when -- a question from Brent. In Illinois who write and takes out of me of course that's going to that you're around here the boy it. So a no I don't think so Brent back out there must -- class again."
[49:58]" Yes we don't bet he will it in the other person. That's be surprised -- the yeah actually Gary -- actually get a signal."
[50:08]" Now Brent Brighton Illinois says that I Eric Jerry said that everyone loves on the show what all three people yes that's right Gary. Russell and John who's not even here today those three development and Eric -- annoyed with a deliberate with the nobody is is that wasn't his questions well what's anyway who's still waiting to be."
[50:31]" From UP from the Patriots. There is one player tackle Oliver Ross who was on. He was on the non football. Injury list. And I think we're still waiting his new. To get him activated at least I think that the only -- got an -- they got even -- back he played Monday night. I guess apparently the best way to call but he sort of rotated and affiliate -- in order for him start of the game again. And believes Neil came in and it was the third and fourth series -- of yours from New England. -- came back in after that but then later in the game Neil came in little bit more I think with him as a matter of conditioning at this point trying to."
[51:13]" Actually it would get a Beckett or get a few -- right back at -- listen. One of the things about going to go back to Super Bowl for second -- I think people forget. You know and and you know when you're watching -- closely. You know these these things and you can watch it in hindsight. After the fact. But what Stephen Neal got hurt the Super -- yeah that changes are good it was caught at right guard spot you. That changed. An awful lot of things. Yeah an awful lot of things connected -- that I think that's for a reason they lost none out. But did it help that line which was so cookies supply all year. When they lost him. In the second quarter I believe it was. That changed a lot of things that afternoon errors out."
[52:01]" Yeah and and you bring up a good point too because when he came back in against Denver the other night. Not on the very first play but but pretty close. Right away they tried to start running towards that I'd get him out a little bit -- Go lost. The right side with the the running game try to get him back is I think. He's like you said one of the strengths of their -- Is him in the running game as a blocker as a lead blocker as a polar. And I think they're trying to work him back into getting and and you saw them of that on Monday night."
[52:36]" Actually they get those five guys from last year back all together again label who went to the trouble and a year. Not that can only good thing."
[52:44]" Now captured in play Monday night at right tackle -- catcher. It was not an injury he sustained the week before. On but the good news about that from my perspective was that. His replacement as a mark of four. Who was to broaden. This season. Didn't notice him. And as an offensive -- and I think that's a good thing for them from for the most part it's usually you're noticing them there either inning lagged. Or giving up a sack. We're jumping I think right yet. And out. Haven't really heard the -- name or number called which I think is a good thing. Oh. You know there's obviously they're going to be some changes when you when you bring in -- new -- to a to a rotation like that especially one like the pats had success and consistency over the years. -- or that -- and and and done admirably to this point -- You know that that's. It could've been just one of those things that would have added to the problems you know losing Brady losing the running back after. You okay now we got a whole right side is out but that hasn't really been the issue I think. You know castles -- number you mentioned before was astronomically high but I think a lot of that is -- like you said it'll. To his. Maybe just is an experience and and beating either giving up on a play to quickly in the pocket or. Not waiting long enough and by that I mean. Somebody brought that up on our -- the other day if he would just. Step up a little bit more when he feels that pressure of trying to date the pocket right you you -- Brady do that a lot of times -- just take half that lowered. By and -- just that that a little bit amount of time that he needed. In that if talking and running when there was an opening there -- that kind of patient. I think that might be beneficial to him."
[54:35]" Let's -- the one of the great quarterbacks and the guy I've worked with here -- consider my friend. And so on. Steve young. And when you get out of the mindset of talk about ball way. After you know you make a couple of reads and and then learn that if you hang in one or two seconds longer. That you may get certain read. You know everything changed or Ron Amadon people did different kind of quarterbacks start in 1992. That he had been in this. Get your -- and ended early days with the 49ers. At once he took that step. That's what he became hall fame quarterback and eventually Super Bowl champion I would and I'm not comparing Matt Cassel Ron Amadon everybody you know don't call called up. But it takes time it takes time you can't do it in five games -- let's put this way because -- wouldn't -- gains mean -- would be do it."
[55:26]" Yeah. Yeah and I or so maybe you know that inches -- and on that that's a good point but it boy that must be -- to break that when your in -- is when you actually went in and you know you're that you beat you he green grass in front of you. You know you you want to they all I can do that I can take it upon myself that."
[55:47]" I get really hard I can get there right notes that he actually bring a great point. On eight different comparison. It's like Reggie Bush cut the corner and on the NFL opposed to how he cut the corner in college. I'll get there okay that's what this safety -- doesn't hurt us yeah yeah and that's a regular regular how much to gain speed up yet and world by the way just we just about regular season. The pros always went out -- getting faster replied oh yeah so yeah I imagine that."
[56:19]" and hopefully knock on his way to bring New England there. To the play let -- glued it around the league this week. Buffalo and Miami. Are going head to head and I think that's a good thing for New England potentially. If if Miami can knock them off and and we can do its job against the Rams because I don't mean both teams and a five and two. Atop the east. Your thought on on that game."
[56:46]" Well I mean I think that's -- I think Buffalo proved. I think for the most years that they are for real I think gave it took big -- last week. With with Trent Edwards I would absolutely -- without him without him I don't think they are right it certainly at third place game. In Arizona. We saw -- like could be without Edwards. Again."
[57:09]" well it could be without Tom Brady only that's all I'll probably work. What --"
[57:14]" Well it is a different way worse because here you're talking about. A team that is still trying to find itself. Okay opposed to a veteran league team like to New England Patriots. Look at their share of adversity one way or the other -- to be the quarterback he can be other ways here is that any value of the but the Buffalo Bill as currently constructed. Have been around that law. So. You know this is that the a franchise that hasn't been -- partly. A franchise had been in the playoffs. -- music city miracle. Yeah in 1999 record last play -- game. An article we get some minor league team they kind of had their numbers of Blake beat them seven alas they can't forty straight. But of course this little little different Miami team games count in Miami that -- doesn't seem to matter at Buffalo. And so on but. It'll be interesting to see how Buffalo's speed cents. Which is better but I don't think it's totally. Boy you know totally what you get a -- I think he can run on them. -- determined that so walked. And see all. You know that. You know that the Dolphins running game. With the wrinkles that they throw at that wildcat formation every once in awhile which I think it's gonna get eventually very old. And so want to see what they can do idiotic thing I will say is -- Miami. Has also done a much better job play in Iran and it did a year ago they were dead last against the run so I -- there was nowhere to get go but up. The Dolphins if there's one area that's really improved with them it's their offensive to decent supplied to the court any team. And that's likely to give -- some problems this week."
[58:59]" Mark couldn't come at a better time to like it says that fifth fifth of if the Dolphins and knocked off the New England can handle the Rams five into both those teams Buffalo and New England at the top. And what what more could just four from Matt Cassel at the point."
[59:14]" That's what it needed that support for the good of the resting now. For Buffalo because. You know just by the -- discuss toward a quirk in the schedule. -- I believe have. Let's see if the Dolphins this week. That the -- I think and then they played New England. Heavily that we can't. I think they have to -- yeah Asian games coming up yep. So we have they have very delicately had played divisional game yet yep. So that means they're going to actually putting six divisional games and relax and you know these things just happen every once in awhile with the schedule number one unit niners. What the point seven straight games against their division who knows how it happened it just with them -- Seven straight in nine and 97. They lost to Tampa Bay. In a game what people. They had forty very -- never forget Jerry Rice was bought for most of the year Ron Amadon got hurt. They came out with a kidding Jim dropped and Miller zone in the second game. On the all time in the draft yet Concord Miller and we'd like a kid around sometimes. And double all the sudden. They get -- they -- got hot. Got their act back together when -- got back. You know they grabbed a division so early melt mostly because they played so maybe. Division games and but anyway this is this is. This is not enough on Buffalo which is a better world you know they just so happened that delicate time they're going to play the teams that word counts the most. And you know go 3342. And a division they're going to win the division yet but it has just start. You know."
[1:00:50]" Are we that they could separate them selves in the next few weeks or they could come back to the to a pack. Pretty quickly and."
[1:00:56]" Absolutely absolutely because you know and you know as well anyone. You know teams tightly -- the here. First tiebreaker is head to head. Maybe split the division this -- you're divisional game doesn't like even though. You only played six divisional games anymore that you speed some instances he's played eight yeah. The divisional -- to stop the most important every win exhilaration kinda wild cards have been very successful on the Super Bowl you know and so on winning that division is still dictates that easy to do doing that one least five years in a row -- Five years -- Seattle's one. Their division for years Guerrero. It would directing it every one of those streaks. Might be jeopardy this year."
[1:01:36]" Right yet at -- it it's it's an. Interesting is this is an understatement. To say and that week."
[1:01:45]" For whatever reason you know call parity caught salary cap called whatever it is and that's why get it Meyer would stop the new England and Indianapolis them to a degree. Green goes into its third and so on the teams can stay consistent in near the top and be in contention every year very hard thing to do this today that a."
[1:02:03]" I don't and a I had earlier in the show. You know there was ever a year for New England to suffer the kind of losses they have injury wise. And to go to this kind of adversity would be this year because. I don't really any clear cut dominant team in the AFC or even throughout the NFL for that matter."
[1:02:21]" You have been there hasn't been anybody who you just look at it and I think even though Tennessee's six and avoiding people still kinda questions. That is a question Eddie sent the ideal that he is very legit. But I think people still question yeah offense. And do they have enough balance on offense they are kind of remind -- of the Ravens earlier this absolutely every that was comparisons. Have been all over the place. And they are did you remind him that the only thing that they're deep and but it certainly it was much is their grievances actually put points on the board and the Ravens also remember that you were Jermaine Lewis had an outstanding specialty yeah they did -- returned and so wanted. Tennessee kind of lacks that a little so. Affected you don't get the benefit of a big return on infield position. You know that it Ravens -- is what people forget except that they record. In 2000 for fewest points away out with a 165. Outlets fewest points allowed sixteen games -- there yeah they've I think for playoff game. -- defensive unit gave up one touchdown and four playoff games and they gave up only 23 point -- what was also dot. In twenty games that year in Baltimore Ravens gave up less than two points. And you think that team to go to a sixteen game season and like why should the -- led the NFL point two lap to 62. In a sixteen game season that -- stand exceed that but just little ugly quality innings giving up less than 200."
[1:03:50]" Yeah -- unbelievable. Now to be fair we talked about the the the optimistic. Side of this weekend. With New England Buffalo let's look at be honest and down -- look at the other side. At -- to. The team throwing them as a 33 New York Jets. Cool. Our home for probably the worst team in football Kansas City Chiefs. So if things go as expected in New York and there's a pick up again here in Foxborough. You could be looking at four and three and four and three knowing that in the Jets tied. For second. In in the division. Brodie Croyle and his backup Damon Huard both were placed on IR this week it looks like. That port they tankan is going to have to. -- the offense at least for now in Kansas City. They have any shot at winning do you think it well in New York are never -- dumping grounds."
[1:04:50]" I'm just gonna say this. You know this is why you always laugh when people say well here comes easy part of their schedule. Was it easy when they left Oakland last week. Away dunaway -- they ran for like 200 I think 42 yards. Or well lord record at 250 yards of lost that game last week. Yeah I mean it you know the Rams a couple weeks ago be directed in Washington you know. And that's probably isn't good the good teams beat good teams are supposed to be. And it's it's three of three I don't know we know yet if the Jets are good team I don't David good quarterback. Who has had his bad moments to a couple picks last week and probably -- throat a couple war. And their defense is better. But offensively very little stagnant. And you know if Kansas City which. Three times this year already given up 200 yard rushing. Twice this year they've given up 300 yards pressure yeah. You would think this could be a big -- accomplished challenge and a Jets offensive line. But I have to see it first because this this pattern of up and down and up and down by the Jets. It's just not -- let's get back and get six or seven turnovers like Arizona did to them a couple weeks don't scored 56 points right that's going to happen every week. And the Jets need to get some sort of also and so slow going. What they're going to be an 8897. Football team by year's but it."
[1:06:20]" And you know what are a lot who looking around looking at the standings and to look at teams currently get look like there's. That the prevailing sentiment in the league this year that year that teams are up and down get a frantic if you want to call it that you never know what you're going to get one week to the next. Lot of teams and end up a -- Seven and nine. Arena or around there sort of hovering around 500. But the way the league is it looked like that could potentially win your division."
[1:06:49]" Doubt about it immediately it's going to be one of those except last year we -- 313 of three teams and a sixteen and OT. That doesn't necessarily happen. I mean you know I hear a lot of people -- before beginning the year you know how how to keep going to go you know it was actually did did nobody that I think became a player came up -- You know -- Raptors is it's not going to be good year. If he can't natural Brett Favre did last year well I don't think your little known fact. Note that yeah. This is typical error which is 1966 season. And gave up it would be AFL you get any kinds of teams just turned around and one. At least thirteen games in back to back seasons now it's it has happened -- not saying that's going to happen."
[1:07:34]" I know the Patriots did it this decade and they went fourteen in future years -- that correct. I and I'm pretty sure the -- did it this decade or at least during the main."
[1:07:45]" Have a couple of occult that good -- the case here what happened six times. Only be only instance which it's seen repeated as Super Bowl champion and it was the Patriots. Ortiz maybe forty disperse about 85 Bears of course yeah it's fifteen to one won -- Super -- right. The 61142. And lost in the divisional play. At night diner one suitable point for the 99 or. Look at these are fourteen to looking at a C championship game yeah. I think he went thirteen to three back to back to stick with a Super Bowl either your -- Superbowl. Got knocked out by the Ravens. The couple out their group you know my point is that. Winning thirteen games back executive -- yeah what foot fourteen exact figures as part. It would naturally just actually by the odds and by history we're going to take to get. So so what we have a budget -- is an eleven fight winning divisions this year. The world still dictate that. Sixteen in each conference -- get we get the playoffs and let's not forget the team they actually won the Superbowl lecture was not sixteen you know we started six. Though the key is. Anymore this week we're only get the last eleven years the team with the best record were tied for the best record and it's not want the super bully racist -- time. Well out of eleven years. The key now is to beat George Mason. Like VNC double -- portrait yeah just get to him in -- yeah."
[1:09:16]" Once once that happens the Jerry Giants -- last here."
[1:09:19]" That's who Edmonton to a degree to -- they did not give it to the Super -- couple years ago. But it failure for the Patriots in 2006 even though they were twelve and four yeah. Okay yeah but they beat the Jets -- the playoffs you want most of the San Diego in San Diego did it right. And the number -- with a double wanted to concede we're -- that here was being single -- Baltimore Baltimore. Okay who won in the AFC championship game the Colts and Patriots."
[1:09:45]" Yeah so. While you know forget it -- recently that we tend to forget those important."
[1:09:52]" We -- we forget that the last three years. It has not taken nineteen games to win the Super Bowl tickets want to write the wild card well our teams in the third number three seed -- in the wild card Giants are. So just -- Just -- beat Duke George masons or look at it that's all you need debate just get it."
[1:10:13]" So we've covered the AFC east. The rest of the as he looks like this Pittsburgh leading the north at five and one. And the up and down Ravens with a rookie quarterback at three and Torre are are next in that division. Cleveland underachieving at two and four Cincinnati. Fighting with Kansas City for worst team in the league Addison Owens haven't. Is -- are you a believer in Pittsburgh."
[1:10:41]" Yeah true in order direct style here and now of course they do with kinda get away from it like it did the first half against Cincinnati last week. But what that team's. Runs and remembered that they've won three games Guerrero. I'll. Know Willie Parker. -- back to back the rookie Borchard been instrumental. Yeah OK yeah so they've been able to win games and including one o's went with. Jacksonville. Okay in a very physical remember -- it was 12 games in seven days against two the most physical teams in the late they outlawed beat Baltimore. And then he -- next six days later and beat Jacksonville in Jack's ability bit had dominate in the recent years. I think I think it's you have to be impressed with Pittsburgh as of late. Well first off the quarterback. It's -- never -- a guy got. And act and even though the offensive line at times. Let's step down. They are getting better habitat to replace what a great guards the last decade now Faneca. And they've done a decent job do event. But -- deep sense is expected to be very very formidable physical. Of their lead the league and sex and sex -- every tank but that -- James Harrison. And Lamar -- on the outside. Of me go to the old days from like the mid ninety's so again this is a -- style wide. That's old fashioned Kevin Greene Greg Lloyd types as some bigger scene in terms of the pressure from the outside -- Harrison has eight to have sex in six games."
[1:12:14]" Yet he's easily impressed me -- had sex slash yeah yeah. You look at the Pro Bowl last year it by the way you know we'll probably distinguishes him linebacker. Factory -- two inherited as an undrafted. Player. Okay -- what we would -- defensive end at Michigan and keep count that's seven -- have sex playing me outside linebackers also missed three defensive fumble recoveries hoosiers well. Including the big return to help keep that there rally against Baltimore went look like they were dead in the water on Monday night yeah. Obviously they are going to protect dog and I'm not one of those. Schedule got -- because we we took that early you play you have to play. But I will say this -- Horry Steelers back or you have tickets to play games to watch games in Pittsburgh. I don't know whether you think you're going to win the games are not how desperate stretch in terms of marquee value. Robiskie are supposed to giant this week you know great they go to Washington on Monday night. They could come home in in three straight road and home games played the Colts. The Chargers. And then the dangled on Thursday night. And then he followed that up with a little chase -- COLT to New England Patriots and Foxboro -- and then come back all the plated doubt scalp. So in terms -- strictly marquee value and doubt how everybody's playing. If you have tickets to steeler games. Hopefully you're going to see some pretty good football the next two months you know the from one team were both teams yeah. The point."
[1:13:49]" In the south. Tennessee AFC south Tennessee six -- no hosting. Division rival Indianapolis. And this week Monday night. Indies struggling big time that they've their -- three and I think they could easily be one in five. Because it they want to game that I think you know the Houston game and didn't."
[1:14:15]" Yeah miraculously they win yeah. Like place for almost three quarters of Minnesota right back and won the most complete game was obviously gets the Ravens looked like we did follow that up with. You know Peyton Manning throwing two touchdown passes for the other team lose so. I think it without -- I'll steal a line from our league -- crisper role we -- doubt. The only must win you know that there's no such thing as a must win that World War II but what was a must win. Which I think lot of players look for prophetic line you'll ever hear -- but if the Indianapolis Colts have any designs. -- the AFC south which they bought for five years and Guerrero. Now they have to be the Tennessee Titans in Tennessee tight and very simply if they do. -- have a win over Tennessee. I'll be -- only be two games out of first place with nine games ago. They've already won two road division -- that it -- subjected to what home Beckham really come back to bite them. But. It's a category one decent one -- you know if Tennessee beat the Colts on Monday night. And fix them four games out with nine games to play then the task is going to be herculean. But I think the Colts will rise up."
[1:15:32]" I I -- and I I do you I picked them and in our pick on this we do every Thursday and PFW in progress and I picked that India the up."
[1:15:40]" I think well because they had still let's think it has -- to the other games but I think this'll be a -- the whole. A lot of countries not -- Tennessee place they know they're six and now. Okay but this is big big spotlight game. For them and -- US citizens to see how they handle it because whether you believe those things are not. You know we saw what -- your big spotlight game play Nicole put Monday night at home they want to get their doors blown off leave. You know eventually since they only lost. If they lost to division by two games with a get swept by the Colts were here. -- process -- you know Tennessee's could start had they wind up losing the couple games of the division to two over the Colts. They still can get this that the -- that area and I believe the Colts and Titans. I think the last game of the year at Indianapolis. So difficult that he designs they eat there's no question they have to witness game well they're nice."
[1:16:39]" Quickly that leaves us with the AFC west where that the Broncos surprisingly are still a top they're point three. Despite looking awful on Monday night. And."
[1:16:49]" Actually all four after three don't start their elected doubt Cowboys in the sense that yes we know without -- play right -- dropped three of their last four games eat sensibly even know what they were winning their defensive looked horrible."
[1:17:01]" And go and that was evident Monday night. San Diego's right behind him at three in for another one of those Jekyll and Hyde teams Oakland's surprisingly playing tough. No matter who the head coaches at this point -- to win or. And Kansas City. Somehow got to win a few weeks ago in their one and five. But this looks like out of all the divisions in the AFC this looks like it could be that weak. The weak link of the and --"
[1:17:28]" Who would it would it on that a couple of years ago so one it's really kind of -- waving Denver has done this before. I've gotten off to a decent start and all the sudden looks -- but defensively they look terrible. And let's let's -- candidacy -- steps further you know about this time last year. Speculation about this time last year in the Kansas city Chiefs -- 43 in first place in the AFC west Saddam that you don't record -- speed forgery."
[1:17:55]" I think they've won 11 game in Kenya won in fourteen. One and fourteen month term is not gonna last to us."
[1:18:02]" Just alluded to it's been cut that -- code not to forward Charlie this is a team that you know went into that. Offseason with the youth movement. You know I still can actually -- itself last week. I had to be drafted twelve players have a lot of young players on the roster don't want. So they're trying to rebuild him to draft console but they're taken their lumps and you know last week and a Tennessee -- the -- really really bad on their own home field and so want and there are going to have to get another quarterback and our topic today question about it -- talk about maybe Daunte Culpepper coming out of retirement. And so on but -- bayside -- greatest week yeah. But they need to -- They're rebuilding and that there's overhauling and right now they're Demitra rebuild it with a with a twinge of overall. You know that the Senate. I can't disagree with you you know just terms the quality of play yeah the USC west. I mean he can't count on San Diego. You little regular Denver. Would beat him with the Raiders came back won the division."
[1:19:07]" That would be I think. Not only a shot it would probably be it would be one of the better stories in the in the NFL if that would happen. Just given the circus that that. That has become the Raiders. But. You know for the players sake I think that would be for the for the Raiders players sick because they've shown heart and playing for. Either Lane Kiffin or."
[1:19:30]" Which they played very hard -- stable and you know what you saw the against the St. a couple of weeks ago Eric Gagne that was disappointing to watch but they've played for it didn't look. They look like he would. They've collected all been -- that press conference you when they play can't think yeah a while we watched on TV but their credit they hung in last week. And Sebastian Janikowski nailed a tactic and a fumble in overtime the record for overtime winning a little legs. And big skate and who knows it is Denver. -- cookie pot and around. And you know Oakland can does somehow scratch together a couple of wins -- Kudos guru really got -- could Oakland beat Baltimore this week. They could cause a rookie quarterback yeah sure they could get they get a couple of turnovers and with a battle of the road towards actually. That would make it -- makes this week followed through. Who grew -- thought that it's not in concede that Denver thought this week. Several states for -- great. But what if cynical -- that wanted to New Orleans. There are some help people the world so boldly pronounce it Diego. On the the most important game this week is obviously had established and -- the battle for survival game. This San Diego the world and so weblog."
[1:20:46]" Yeah yeah and those two teams that are. Well. It's not resort to win that division a lot of people I did you -- in the Superbowl -- what was going to be three at five archetype break I think you could tell you look -- Italian blood in us. They're big game. You -- when you haven't actually taking get a little you have idiot for a client of music are there yet he or clock maybe have a tie finally got -- I was out."
[1:21:12]" And before -- ago Russell in the NFC it looks like that the NE. -- by far the best division I think quality wise the Giants are playing well the Redskins are surprisingly. Playing well they have they have a little bit of consistency issue with how they play but they're winning. Dallas. And we are you mentioned them starting Austrian owner Jerry and and the Eagles. You never know what kind of team you're gonna get I think Westbrook has become the the key to that team he's healthy and plays they win if he's not they don't."
[1:21:42]" Really intriguing game with Atlanta this week yeah because of the the Falcons are playing. At least in my mind at all football with with Matty Heisman right very sizable involved met and Michael Turner and Andorra."
[1:21:55]" Vibes -- labor camp yeah and every one of many games into what lectured. They -- You guys like it'll look like like earmarked these. Game you know -- really important game you know these survival game you the most tricky game you know obviously Giants Pittsburgh it is huge serve but more. But -- from the impact of you know it's Roethlisberger may heading to TT -- to the last three Super Bowl. And so on but as far as sometime pure important. And intrigue and Atlanta Philadelphia yep and Arizona at Carolina league that'll first placed team in Carolina the -- yeah."
[1:22:32]" Arizona the cream of that division. Now right now the NFC west of."
[1:22:37]" It's funny you'd Award because the -- division basically has been claimed just. Although the -- to Roby the Redskins and Cowboys pulled aside they doubt the rest of the way of -- like the second hot team. In that division and -- and Seahawks who play each other this week. And -- also -- the other as a -- he Thabeet statistic that I can. Blow. We're very I think you know Michael and of course was fired this week third in -- firing we've had -- Over the coach has that ever happened before. Do you think of the firings we've had years were -- guys stepped out. But actually all three of these guys with a hand in Kiffin of the court -- I attribute fire yeah. You know are we going -- I was -- like six or seven firing. This decade. Of in the middle of the season but I redevelopment outcome this year you so love. W I think but you know you there's so much talk about -- is. This Mike Colbert who do we go to flustered Seattle yup and eventually it -- probably not live next year if he eventually going to be the 49ers head coach."
[1:23:43]" Well -- you know is Mike singletary get the they're not full time there in San Francisco. You think he'd be there at least at the very -- 23 years. So."
[1:23:57]" It's a golden opportunity for them that's not a team devoid of talent doesn't mean it just is that I mean in the United they have bet look at the quarterback Alex met him and probably even more bad blood Derek went down. You know door -- well not bad luck for north he wanted to be you know head coach in the NFL. Now looks it was headed on a pretty good pat -- Norv Turner which is offensive coordinator two years ago but the fact that the voters changed coordinators. All -- Certainly didn't help a delicate injury problems so -- shortest career with the niners it is very much in -- right."
[1:24:31]" The -- the league looks like this NFC south Bucs and Panthers both -- into leading followed closely by foreign to Atlanta. And the Saints the up and down -- three and four Vienna in north. Has the Bears and Packers tied at four and three Minnesota right behind at three and four and the wind Lions. And only six. -- the south. And the east. To me look like the the strongest divisions in the NFC. North and west looked via a toss up."
[1:25:02]" What will make Diaw will make that is that the -- interesting as we -- CD yet but -- women that we got -- Bears Packers need. Meetings of the year yet. And there's entities that are code first place right now Minnesota via decision has been a disappointment only. And you know to their special teams do something. This special teams between fumbled. Blocked punts and punt returns have given up five touchdowns this year. In seven games while that is that crippling -- they can they gave the -- Almost two to one last week and yet lost 4841 because they had problems with their specialty."
[1:25:38]" And well as always Russell's great information. Great talking with the you'd one or email or cut from nova Scotia road -- want to thank you for coming on the shorter week you're very knowledgeable and entertaining as. And I and I agree them."
[1:25:55]" Well thank you don't like I would expect my guess they haven't. Somewhat to big goals -- want -- delivered. I want overnight overnight and I talked and expect to get that nailed four days later."
[1:26:08]" You know what you're better off by doing what we do on the show was where we have and call to a that the nearest location. A New -- haven't delivered fresh because that criticize Clinton and failure you know you're you're risking getting it there in one piece and getting it there."
[1:26:23]" That's true except boy I don't think subway has pretty big one block especially ordeal that I don't know. You know what I -- thank you very much a very -- had I would probably a couple of their loved doing the show."
[1:26:33]" He had he had one question now the Brady injury has it ever happened before where the a reigning MVP has gone off of the year in the first game. I'm going -- after the season and the first game in the air I don't think it."
[1:26:42]" I can remember the first game of the last -- remember somebody would the reigning MVP going out this early. I think was twelve Davis. Who got hurt like it was like a fourth or fifth game. After the 98 season. In ninety died she he blood is is needed -- Jets. It'd SS would never really think players get them but it was a it was -- is it literally unprecedented. We see something to happen this -- without Bob try to just. You know it's doubt in my mind until the first this early. And so on but I mean it's just. It's like an effective because all he's not going to win the MVP type of talk the talk for respect by just -- MVP. Open to offer support here. You know that's why did -- just embarrassing this year to think about. Well we've seen be offensive player of the year in MVP is this is missing pretty special seat -- That the intent to play -- been seen this year that Bob Sanders grabbed Indianapolis Colts right let's go and shortly led. Don't people don't think this -- best defensive player of the year you'll have that debate all the time. And so a lot that speak the kid during a week from what they they went away. -- Champ -- Now -- 46."
[1:27:56]" Exactly okay and other parts a year pro -- Pro Bowl -- you aren't you know so yeah is that hey it is -- The opening week of the season on our -- counted on -- or guys we're posed the question who could at least have a least afford to have a week. Like week one again in the naturally it's of course with New England Patriots. My own personal intercepted a pretty the National Football League. Yeah and you know so far you know. You know -- We book tour -- weeknight which we'll talk next week obviously weeknight is almost like the second kick off for the season it's no coincidence. That's why we always have Patriots Colts -- on which they sure beat Fortier to roto player weeknight you know I'm just openers and few people round bye week nine."
[1:28:47]" That's a play in the game actually quite -- it to be okay well like you say we will talk about it next week it'll be if someone talk about Russell thanks for a doing an extended the tour with -- today go without John on the show I I know you probably missed him too and the he should be back next week and I will be too but it's. I think we missed John."
[1:29:07]" Oh absolutely we kid because we care but more so worked concerned with. And by the way the over under on -- Adam Vinatieri flashbacks beating the Rams. In the Super Bowl on the Fox Broadcast this week is."
[1:29:24]" As a all right well Russell look great again as always -- below will tucked in next week -- had a great we can't you do. Russell back from ESPN. Mister NFL. For that network. His job point for hours a day seven days a week three and six days a year is. All of a football he's one lucky man. We got a couple more items left up for the -- going to take gala. And we hear from Matt Cassel who talked so late today India open locker room period and also from. -- Louis head coach. -- has it. Who get a conference call with the New England media. As well this week we're going to get to a to both of those right after the brick."
[1:30:48]" Eleven acute -- catering category two feet for a hot got some not just a -- carried a bar and together catering and give them -- never forget -- get elected to go back."
[1:30:57]" Big games mean big parties beat twenty or more of your friends with a Q double hot -- not sure naked burrito bar from -- with -- fast price in budget friendly now with sixteen Massachusetts two occasions opening September Patriot place and get more square hole manual available if you don't buy dot com."
[1:31:17]" Lineman signed -- walking off of -- taste of Gillette Stadium New York field. Already home. Tackle that appetite what Patriots gridiron Grilli I -- and hostages -- crimes of Patriots brought to a wide variety of flavors. There we have the grim prelude drillers are all you need for the perfect beautiful barbecue chicken out all the Patriots gridiron great. The Jets Patriots. My agent homework Patriots. Gridiron drillers. Brothers are very far -- and stoppage. -- when you just can't wait for Sunday."
[1:32:21]" Making another run in the and MLS cup championship it was. Playoff push at Gillette Stadium with the the Budweiser. But the -- once your quest for the cup back to continue to one of the -- final matches of the and a pair of what what's -- revolution. Budweiser the cup -- back strategist for the UW's. -- the reds match and you take home imagine her revolution played glasses yeah Martin 21 over to participate -- 1877 get -- Good -- that's the ticket. -- information everything else New England Revolution. "
[1:33:13]" The running game going it's a plus for for me makes my job -- here. And yeah it sets up so many other dimensions of the game plan. It should be able to go and run the ball consistently like we did it's always big boost."
[1:33:29]" I'm probably the --"
[1:33:39]" There's no doubt or Vietnam or anything -- all those guys Kansas they're great athletes and that's what they're. Here to do is make plays and break tackles and so -- get the ball on the receivers hands base in the in the left them in their natural abilities take over. Talk about -- I didn't know until yesterday some nickel and I was pretty shocked to be completely Austin I really think it comes down to the team played really well and it'd been so as a lot about us in the running game going in all it's boring because this game's definitely. -- it comes on the eleven people play together and I think that's really what it is more for the Dolphins with the ball than anything else. That's part of it I guess in reality -- take the good the bad and as a quarterback you know there -- always looking at you whether it's good or bad so. This week did it obviously turned out on the plus and hope we will continue that. But there are playing great footballer it now and we've we've. -- short week and we've we've done the best of our abilities catch up. And they're good team and we were prepared Harden get ready. They've got a great great front four with little and long. They've got active linebackers with Witherspoon and draft but it coach Davis is obviously an experience safety. And so -- the secondary and really -- on the scheme is schemes been really effective the last few weeks and and throughout the season really. Oh -- we've got our work cut out for us when we just kept prepared and best of our abilities and -- ago. -- I cut a tucked it home usually most sports week in the always known him for Tyson. And he's -- their formative. It's frustrating. Well early talk about on his injury situation much to be completely honest. What's more it's more football -- So in in terms of injuries or anything like I think it would be best to if you prevalent and about cut off. He's been helpful. -- Yes its a BB yourself you know and don't try to do too much in the don't take the -- world on his -- should just try to go up there and execute the offense in the in the on the important. And you'll you'll get better week that we. As. Buddy you know from one week to the next day everything changes sort of from. -- you're playing two deep scheme and so you try to build on the things that you did well in the correct the things he needed. Poorly in the game and a and then before from there and hopefully just continue to get better and better and better as you move or. One particular. -- Other number different areas and I -- actually go in. I don't -- going -- split the -- things that you have to work on I don't think you oh well as long as anybody plays this game you never master. Master because there's so many things are always changing. I really don't know later said the status of Thorman and -- for a visit from an injury standpoint calling those that want to talk to these spirits and he sounds Gooden. He he says that he's recovering well. -- I think from a quarterback and when you do better jump right. From ball away when I need to and you know there's there's times around trying to let the play develop downfield and and if on stand there too long and I just need to learn when that time clock goes off and just throw away. And -- that's an area of course that I can help off Lionel with obviously the excellent assessment on them their their on the could what are on trying to scramble around make player like that and that's something that. Come on get a little bit more used to is because they go forward and sort of knowing that sometimes they're the deacons is going to. Have the right play call against us and I'd have to throw the ball away and take -- go from there. I don't -- I mean you always try to work -- little things move around the pocket is something that. -- your comfort level. Is continue to grow owners like that -- so. You want to be able to move in -- make plays happen. It. I'm not really I mean lower order we constantly work on moving in the pocket and moving around in the it's a little bit more difficult because you don't have that constant pressure of the rush -- mentioned really when the game speed it kicks in and he feels guys in the sort move around that's really -- to learn and feel it's so. Hopefully we continue on that are. -- That he is going to work with the Dolphins the last few weeks in the -- a good player in. Hopefully he'll continue to build on his performance and go from there."
[1:39:01]" And obviously being great for a the Rams and he looks that way from afar what would you feel has contributed to read the turnaround."
[1:39:09]" Well I think what they think it's the players want to get the job done. They've been practicing well and -- you know have been inability. Do we do we just try to. Didn't understand it you know that we're not what went to bed his team is everybody hardly disk you know he's going to try to do things right."
[1:39:29]" Every race and it wasn't correct that you sort of gathered not just the players but everyone in the organization has -- that transition took place -- from mascot -- yourself and sort of talk a little bit start or is that true and and if it is why did you do that."
[1:39:44]" Yeah I just thought there was a separation in the building between. Football business management and and marketing and in so long as some here I just thought that this somehow you have to. Try to come together and be one and so they open a practice to lose people come up practiced -- with the players did just that do different things because. Obviously if if we win games it helps those people in the more they can do to help us to be better so it was just what was. What -- but -- positive feel good but team and try to come to grips with that -- world for -- You know we -- going to be if we're gonna we're going to fight scratch and -- what are we going to do try to win games."
[1:40:31]" How much is the the mindset of the team better now and how much does that correlate onto the field."
[1:40:39]" Well they've -- that she wouldn't win a couple of games -- Phillies have a better mindset that when you lose four or. From that standpoint it's it's a lot better that. It's. I think I just think that Vegas together talk to the players on this subject -- think that Marcia. Obviously much better when you when you beat two teams like Washington. And -- that. You know got at least hurt so good about themselves."
[1:41:04]" Daunting I -- you took over you get them by we can get everything straightened out but you look at the Scandrick out Redskins Cowboys Patriots and everything one of those times it. That's not -- didn't think. You know get your footing when you face and let's three game stretch like that."
[1:41:19]" Yes and -- got -- that's not easy either actually get there are so good that we built the -- is New York conception that goes so. And besides playing good teams -- play them a lot of lot of Rose. Again. I don't really look at it that way at this excuse -- look at -- You know that you're -- to play one good football team and do -- every candidate to try to win that game and then go to an excellent. If you -- or you have some adversity that you. He's trying to you know totally here."
[1:41:55]" How do you admire have a Patriots are always handled adversity."
[1:41:59]" Not a -- jovial don't want the best coaches -- in the game many in the heat does there's so anybody doing that in the elusive quarterback to plug and excited. Didn't play much -- Here you don't you don't this much is still for -- got a great -- so he lost numerous coaches over the years players over the years -- We just keep have a success so. He's probably the -- it."
[1:42:23]" Take up much have a progress Aaron. Has Chris Long made in hell house he would be utilized."
[1:42:29]" Well you know Chris is really kind of steps forward the last couple games and that is that goes -- ever college and you know has moved to an outside because of that position he's never played moved farther away from the ball that. I think I think Christian is better and better every week that's what is best game last week he would have -- expletive but two quarterback -- He's very active he's always going to be very active this kind of guy is. That. I think -- you everything he's done on the field he -- are better."
[1:43:00]" We can move back to Marc Bulger and a no brainer."
[1:43:05]" Well -- pillows that you know. Everybody looks at different isn't that I didn't like about mark right cause they achieved great ownership and just seeing. Guys really took in the the leadership role. He he's talked to he runs -- you handled your offensive clinic when it when it took quite cold legal what you became the Corvette. -- at Marshall Faulk he would Torry Holt Isaac Bruce and alive does that get it for five years you with a youngster. Now kind of flipped -- got to go policy young kids are. Hasn't played together for that long so you need simple in -- Danica in the inning that they've done a great --"
[1:43:42]" Do you believe in momentum and interest is beating Washington and Dallas help you can into any tangible way you prepare for this week."
[1:43:52]" Yeah I don't I think it felt it sure doesn't hurt that. You know detective up there's a great challenge. That you're talking about. Quarter to let you know took place this as a hostile environment. Weather conditions have played teams -- you know at the front of the Super Bowls and this super great coach so -- look at our workout force and hopefully instruct their play as well we can't."
[1:44:17]" I'm I'm Mark Burnett and write a top Goran. Yeah I mean he -- have pretty good nose for the ball can you explain that."
[1:44:25]" They're great note for the ball. We got it to a do or we got he would have played much and we just kind of stuck in the an -- you know based hopeful we -- colleges. And guys began the sides have a great those football is an excellent tackler. Didn't got towards trying to get the ball -- extremely fast and extremely smart. He's a great kid did note disappointed in the approval it -- interceptions and a I don't see why would make a picture to the guys what it does safeties in the league."
[1:44:59]" I know -- not make the decision now but it and Jackson and pace physically you still think they're on target."
[1:45:07]" Basically this week subject totally data they have a really sure. What -- do. When it comes this Sunday it will -- bull. Yeah he didn't do anything today he'll he'll start -- a little -- tomorrow --"
[1:45:22]" Am I believe they're lucky to be before it to the Saints haven't 2000. You member of the process you went through here you know and goes -- military has --"
[1:45:33]" over the process. It in New England yeah."
[1:45:38]" Question that that one that ability -- be a coach and at home. ELI remember one when -- for the process. Not really sure of the question. All of -- let me -- all -- know you were named coach the things that you've because he became the coach is saying is that you've ever gone through that. You know coming up here interviewing and the rest of it."
[1:46:01]" Well I think I think Tom Watson doing an interview. I think bill -- job. Before it goes with the Steelers then. You know like I I interviewed it's the territory it is then that as the Philadelphia. Seattle. I think Chicago's."
[1:46:24]" And you give -- what was your thought on and I know it's sort of old now that when the Dolphins came in here in week three wood that. Wildcat stuff I mean what's your thought on and have you guys tried that at all."
[1:46:35]" Well we have anybody can do this deal with there right private citizens guys that can really throw the ball. He's an interim head -- together coach and steps that -- at least it was a offensive coordinator at Arkansas and so it's -- that would. When he can tell those guys like -- this stuff -- we -- we really don't because they can do that -- it is nice jobless and they did a nice job with that but. I think it just cut and let them by surprise with the Dayton."
[1:47:04]" Jim how to go on through. 2005 with the Saints and being displaced by Katrina. You know help you as a coach or deal with adversity to face him now or."
[1:47:20]" This is he compared that. You know taking over -- and so forth a lot easier than the things to a pathetic that don't have enough time on this on the radio right now. -- issues on the telephone and a -- to describe what I went through you know with the players and hurricane in the loss of Stanley July's at home so. If they that was subsidies people -- goes through against -- coach."
