[0:00]" Let's go let's guns out -- without. Wanna go odd quiet yeah but they've won here it is Patriots playbook cut back on combat odd -- it's unfair yeah. Pretty down last Sunday's game. Sunday's game credit for the great. Craig and the rest of the 2008. NFL yeah. And some of the plug stuff in between now here's John look. Fallen Patriots playbook. Always eleven computer issues. Oh is that -- what are the playbook it is Thursday we kicked this off yet. I'm John rookie Eric W -- from PFW is here with a."
[0:54]" A few minutes as well I have I have been to hold. I have been all we have -- your -- today because he was -- told it was traveling yesterday now with the economic and I don't know he was. Coleman can not with the -- of the public people -- when it's convenient one communication is an odd odd business. It's amazing that you have to communicated in order to. How in the communications industry and you know -- some of the worst communicators. You ever are are the good times yeah they're the big time that the media is in the Westinghouse's in the out of the world look at any rate. Oh we do hope that that mr. -- or will be able to join us here in the next a little bit -- from ESPN medical research coordinators -- scheduled visit with -- all the 3 o'clock afternoon as well eastern time. And we got conference call from Ronnie Brown and a conference call press conference from mom paid quarterback -- from earlier today too -- Bring along to you inside the playbook and of course your emails -- welcome opened up right off the bat web radio at Patriots dot com. You know this is the in in I've talked about it you know I've mentioned it as well the last couple days this week this is the and the ultimate game the ultimate game in the the ultimate. For the Patriots. I think they on hinges on -- if they lose this game I do not believe deep down they will reach the playoffs now going to be really difficult again realizes not imply that could win 6 and they could you know it's possible. I just don't. I don't."
[2:32]" It's going to be a heartbreaker for them especially after last week when they felt like they don't want night game I know and been in first place that went to drop to division games. In a row would be devastating it would be hard to come back because -- Most likely well the Jets depends with the Jets the week it will be in second place. If the Jets happen to knock off Tennessee. Which I don't think it's going to happen. Then they'd be in third place but -- I think they're going to I think they're going to find a waited to -- because I think -- and at -- and I think Miami is. Kinda like Buffalo in that very young team that doesn't that's doing well but doesn't really quite know how to win yet they they made it to win that game in Oakland last week. Which they had dominated but they the world losing at the end and took the you know -- second field goal that that to it -- output. You're saying then as you think that game a week three was -- anomaly. I do okay I do I mean it's so rare that. A team under Belichick surprised the way they did and get hammered for sixty minutes the way they did by the same play. There's no way there is no way that they're going to let that happen again. They're going to be more prepared for the game than any other regular season game I think they played in his tenure here really I think so they were really humiliated at home by a team -- What should have gone -- Eckstein. The Dolphins. And they'd they're making an -- of turnaround it got to give them credit they're playing well they've got a good players that'd. A new coach. You know Parcells knows what he's doing but that's I still think they're young team and in a game like this where they had where they have to prove that there. A one of the elite in this in this conference and in the division I to. Think the Patriots have too many veterans that can now that can step open and children that they -- young guys in the division that Dolphins are and that. That it's going to take a lot more than a fancy play in week three to beat them again."
[4:32]" I'd like to know how you feel you agree with -- Eric. Do you field. Kind of like I do that this is going to be you know home to the nail right out of the and frankly I was coming in today. Thinking that Adam I was going to pick the Dolphins to win the game just because of the history and tradition and -- than -- please play. I have often my -- don't -- I don't think I'm really ready to give a pick. I think I have to I think -- two hours so I know I think I have to agonize -- little bit more but what I want you to do -- I want you to give me your pick. Will the Patriots pull at all. On Sunday and by what gore web radio. Patriots dot com. Hopefully in the -- prediction that a couple of -- it in. -- it seems as it most everybody agrees with you that the Patriots would bounce back I do I that the majority the overwhelming majority of our audience. Largely Patriot fans so in that regard that everybody has an optimistic point of view. On I don't necessarily go the negative -- just to balance it out and based on you know. We've witnessed. Is what I'm going on I I think I'm probably leaning a little bit more toward you know because they have done in the past. -- I think that there's an every bit of an opportunity for them to do it again. Fact is they are you know sixteen and one of the last seventeen games following a loss that is obviously a the that -- statistic tells you that these guys know how to bounce back. After difficult performances. -- that they haven't had. This type of bounce back and they haven't had this much of pressure put on the shoulder -- considerate with the big picture. Is at this stage of the yeah I'd I'd be a little bit more inclined to think that this would be a trek game they had won against the yet. Because at that point -- have been in first place in the division. And the Dolphins may have had a little bit more today. And there were an older more margin for error for the pats. You know winning that that stretch of three division games in -- would -- won two out of three at that point. Not not. Saying that they would have taken this game lightly -- I think there I would have been more apt to VO as you did in the beginning that Miami might have the edge but. After what happened last week. I don't think -- it bodes well for Miami. So you have your chance to blow it was huge and worth on the match -- all the score the game how you think it's going to break down and I just -- probably -- the equation whether or not you feel like it is going to be do or die or play a chance or concern. We had a few fans emailing yesterday that you know sort of -- brought that into the the Russian a lot like the kind of continuing that thought today because after all. I'd I'd I don't think I went out and eliminated yesterday I'm going to go on record and on fortunately. That if the patrons lose this game they won't make the post season I think that it is this. I agree with this much of -- and it's a little game where this and his concern. What so that I think you know -- already you'll have pre law in the division. UB two games behind Miami. On it you know at minimum you know your he couldn't speak to gain on the -- I mean it's that will be a heck of -- road to overcome. Not impossible not mathematically. Statistically impossible but highly unlikely."
[7:50]" I agree that I think it via it was I think it really. The minister make them play it's going to be really difficult than we may be starting -- week. Well I would not talk at Charlotte I think it's going to be difficult for them to do. Richard before a team out to a quick practice update disco. Four players again missing from practice but the fourth one was different for the third in. Yeah the same three all week have been -- promise no surprise. Eric Alexander and LaMont Jordan. The fourth one yesterday. What Richard was note -- today's Tuesday he came back yesterday witnessing one yesterday it was Jonathan Wilhite who according the part to report -- he was back today. But. Big -- Vince Wilfork. Was number four missing in the ideal -- no idea why it was but it wasn't in the locker room he wasn't on the field at the start practice though. Little bit of a cause for concern. He's not going to be around but it's only Monday and who knows what the reasoning be well. Oh we'll know more at the end -- today when we get the Thursday participation report is that on there with something -- could be coaches and we know noble I'm okay. I just you know I like the idea though I mean Weathers is actually true or not it makes a lot -- that on occasion might it random. Did not participate in practice it would because. Guys -- little rest. Yeah and this could be the week to do that and its interest in the the guys have been rotating. Mostly defense and one. So it's evil it. Because they're veteran. Aspect of that position maybe 8 cables or take it easy however. Richard Seymour was listed as having a -- problem which limited in the other day. So. There could be something there but again they could just be something minor and being precautionary. So. Want to see. You know after tomorrow will LB probable out and doubtful it and all of that but this point we have. A number of players who a question marks up. There you know that you mentioned it to me when we walked in today and in -- green of the Dolphins and yesterday during our conversation that in your but it won't talk about the it was that you know."
[10:15]" Just you know. Figure a way to either stop better -- to -- a focal point one really. The Dolphins would probably be lucky to order to have a dozen times you know the Patriots have got to be ready for it but then again at the same time if your Miami. And a team that you played failed post over the last time -- got to feel like it's going to be somewhere in the playbook for this week again. But are we focusing too much attention. On you know Miami -- to do different things mean honestly it seems like. Anytime you get something a little bit of the ordinary elected jump on and people have jumped all over this well it it's the easy way out."
[10:52]" For the media this week it's it was -- it was there was the story of the game in week three story -- in the story right and it was the reason why Miami won that game so it is no doubt it was the story when it happened and no doubt it should be a story this week because. They're playing again Miami has used that the formation ever since with varying degrees of success but nonetheless that part of their offense now. How many times again they use it varies depending on the opponent but. It it it's. Okay you talk about the you talk about the play may be the beginning of the week especially since this week it was an unusual week because the Patriots went last Thursday so. They actually have will have five straight days of of working in a row for the game. Monday through Friday because normally Tuesday the day off. But because they had Thursday last week they had the entire week you know so they had every day this week to practice and watch film on. So yet in the beginning of the week it legitimately should be a story because that's. What happened in week three the change of the entire. Outcome of the game but. I guess I am just really tired of hearing about it because. All we're getting every day is a different players opinion about what they. Have seen and studied in what -- at what they think about -- leaving me in the next thing I've got to imagine that the players can hear about it I I. I would hope so. And not because but not because we're talking about a hope they're sick of it because they've been preparing enough for. That they don't want to get. Humiliated by it again. That's the reason I mean as far as. Our talking about it the players have been pretty scare in the locker room this week it's been it's been a tough week to try to get that reaction now from players. And I think they might have had the right idea 'cause I think they might have seen it. The media who had a one track mind when it came to this and that's all they wanted to talk about -- so I don't really blame them in one aspect for trying to avoid is because. You know so few of us in the media have have another angle that we want to cover about this game."
[12:50]" Well here's the other thing about that mean the wildcat was a huge part. Of that 25 point win number one because they rushed for 216 yards Ronnie Brown I still don't think he's been tackled yet. But the overall picture wasn't wasn't just because of that formation that that game to me is memorable. Miami put up almost 500 yards of total offense against the New England beat -- head. And awhile over the girls especially yeah I think as were all sort of an agreement here that the Patriots defense. Right now is lacking in a new areas and still leaves a lot of work in terms of personnel and we realize that. Injuries are part of the but the fact that you know. If your Miami is not just the wildcat you feel like you need to have in order to be effective against these as the Patriots -- Off I'm sure -- been working extra hard on many other facets of what Miami can present me great camera real has been. In that game and has been really -- and he is -- and Wes Welker lights if you will he's been yeah the same type of and three year deal yeah and they and he they've been using him very effectively for a guy like Chad Pennington. Who doesn't have the strongest of arms. On he throws the intermediate and short -- very well he knows what these guys are coming. Pennington the camera Rio is is a combination that could chew you up and -- you are on or is the Patriots -- concerns that got to figure out away. You know to to play. 8 o'clock 9 o'clock something around there because I think you probably want a guy like Pennington beach over the top but if you're going to try to make conviction."
[14:22]" And that Anthony Fasano a tight end is it is pretty good player and brought over from my doubts via with -- Sparano and Parcells. He started his career Italy and then made the jobless -- He's he's a player especially and that's a spot over the -- as we saw last week against the tide and the Patriots had problems haven't they haven't tackle calorie they had they had problems with that and that's another area where they need to try to short something up on defense not to with the -- that they need to. Harden up that's all part of the the middle of the field because that gave them a lot of problems not the Dolphins so. One little aside just like Jane Seymour commercial woman still rate greater or on Google dot -- An unbelievable yeah she preserves -- well finally Dick Clark I think maybe they made to deal with the double. Well yeah you know it all right aren't mr. W could have my old like Tuesday looking on -- meeting him. Back -- football for the first second. Actually pretty good -- obviously wanted to point out something that Mike Vrabel says in the locker room that you're one of the few guys who talked and I I am sick of talking about the while capita I think it Bears repeating what he said. -- somebody asked him if he expected Miami to continue running that play against New England because they had so much success that the first time around or if because of that success knowing would be so prepare for at that. Miami would be forced try to do something else to get them off guard. And Mike said you know I'm sort of paraphrasing but he said you know I've never coached. But I would think that if I were in that position I would keep running the play at the team until they could prove they could stop right so."
[16:02]" Kind of like what he ever heard this week when he was at but Joey Porter runoff for the mouth again and he's like you know well frankly he's right. You know he has every reason to crow. They killed us in the first game we didn't shut him up oh. More power to him. So at I'm at I'm curious to what Miami does because that's an interesting. Problem to have do you continue to do you. What got you there until the other team and -- I think you have to at least go in thinking I mean or I'm trying to -- out think this right because I think it's easy it really easy to do here and I'm sure that Miami coaches are probably battling with the thought that -- be honest. -- Yeah I think you gotta be like first of all that the other team. The Patriots are going to have worked on the formations -- what we want to do is that we -- bringing up. But my guess is that partly try to put a twist you bend a few kicks if you -- a -- something different -- twist in there what are. You know it may be the same look what it's a different blocking is something in the air they'll do it because frankly. What -- what if I -- the greatest fear I would have as an offensive coordinator here is find out after game in which I get beat. The opposing team is playing in the media and now you know -- even that you know once a game and in frankly with -- water you know we were prepared affordable you don't wanna hear it yourself thing out of there I should have done that I can't. Yes it took the Patriot a long time. To figured out and they never really figured out how to defend that that formation and how to stop you know good gains out of that formation because -- surprised by that Jason was Beckham by the way she really looks good for publishing like I have to. She's either in her late fifties or iron about six I think she's the big excel. Daniel can you look that up. He -- he's he's as he's editing. He's editing audio tapes he can your words were paying job but it is definitely his job -- hope I'm Jane Seymour -- look at Jane Seymour IND beating Julia and Jane Seymour the old she is. I was -- I'm content I'm a guy he's I think -- sixty and the she's at the big weeks ago. Because she -- fantastic. Either way. That offer you know couple forty something here we're going to."
[18:20]" I don't know I don't know we'll get called on I said late fifties. When it. Johnson's sixty."
[18:29]" 57. You want to want to 1951 out. -- sort of Spirit the seven to a great. And by the way amendment or. While. You know what I started working with yet I don't here's a look at as role Hillary's I said I don't you for probably fair. On the by -- you know fifteen of sixteen -- fifteen years. I. And -- you right out of school I was -- I was right out of school and I was young and I started school a year early so -- I was at 21 year old college you're only what 36 -- here I'll be 36 and must be the you know the lack of the -- are models. And I can I. -- Believe me someday you'll be really happy. That you'd vote and what little I have to start degrade you damn well the date it was take a look at -- here in Tokyo agree that because of the worst -- It was one of the Charlie's Angels that's what I've read Kate Jackson's Kate Jack. Notes that he wanted to -- pretty good. For sixty I mean you know I remember a few years back and completely he's now I think are few years back rock bill Welch it. Looked phenomenal and oh goodness -- I was you know started. And I remember thinking Mortimer. Almost -- and he wasn't. I think no at all no no she was fit and taught in like. She had Major League work done but who the heck. Yeah it was like and so anyway so kudos to these women. Who were that age and look that good I vividly and I mean obviously of pushing -- might -- I have a newfound enthusiasm for. And and along those brackets they along those lines eight he's seen those. DirecTV commercials where they take a scene from the movie. And you think it's the actual movie and then all of a sudden it's. One of the actors and in there pretends that. The only they start talking about DirecTV. Yeah Anadarko backfield as it goes yeah -- really quickly from the the vacations is fantastic and looks exactly like she did -- what you never liked what she really didn't which is all look at what purpose of the -- right. But I mean that was an amazing job yeah that was an amazing job of video editing. To be able to do that it would ever. Present day my guess is that putter head on top of the body in the pool or they did something like that because obviously that use -- Chevy Chase out of the movie yeah. That -- dives on the -- I'd like to think that maybe it wasn't necessarily. And the body may be named later do it again. I I think I don't know you know Christie Brinkley -- all those. Court shot you know after wrote up. You know the whole thing was going on recently and frankly should still yeah she's still -- in what was that -- thank. You know I mean I know what it's like a live look at women's side in on. It was a very fortunate the very they've answered by I I married up candidate I'm married up there's no doubt in my mind though. You know and with that haven't even matter and I agree I believe you know he's. Right okay we kind of got sidetracked with elevated. I'm. You know I know we were kind of apartment on the whole wildcat thing in -- the Patriots would be prepared for a lower or not prepared for but -- Miami. I just don't know how you can at least take a few -- Miami at the you've got to be creative with it. To the point where maybe we can throw different twist to the Patriots would necessarily expect because that's the X factor you had a -- you had. Success with it. This way it would you know X play. But now you know the -- to that because they're going to be ready for next place and you gotta turn into why. Them out when I I would bring -- algebraic manager into the things so it is here I'm Leonard like him along time and one."
[22:41]" If I were coaching Miami I would say I would agree with -- I'd say. The start with the play. Because last time you ran that they couldn't stop start with a but don't go in as your game plan relying on that for the entire if you really want to -- you think maybe the Miami should just like open up the game run while Carolina and wanna. The -- the paper cut itself but here's here's the problem with that though if the Patriots didn't shut it down you have other options I have -- over the -- for the whole game. Focus EU should have a game plan that that. That you you can you should have basically have to game plan for this game if -- the Dolphins have a game plan that that entirely devoted of the wildcat. And run it down their throats if if the Patriots proved that they can't happen again and stick with that game plan if that's the case. But haven't of the game plan where if the wildcat doesn't work you have another way that you've practiced owe it to try to beat this team I know a lot to ask. But you're professional team that that their jobs I think they should I think that's what they should do going and it's a two game plans whichever ones chosen working stick with. Are all that's obviously what Miami's work -- because that you can't kick yourself afterwards John L we should have tried this start with the one you know had success. And if that fails go to plan but he then you can't that you can say hey we tried we did everything we could and we still couldn't beat them off the Patriots. Miami is going to look at this game in in lot of their media articles this week. They look at this as the biggest game they've played probably about five years. Because obviously there's six and -- aren't they witching week the Patriots remain low and than that and maybe even knock patrons out of left there and biggest game here is and maybe December of 2003. And who had a plan game doesn't. I'd say probably goes back further than that -- the biggest game in Marino at quarterback there that you can go that far. Ahead. Greatly lessen the playoffs. Did they make it in 2000 through that that the they knocked out knowing what I believe though. That it might have been the last time I believe so -- But. They have a chance I don't know I wouldn't consider those games really big because ultimately -- aren't going to go anywhere anyway right. So in my I'd say that one of their biggest games -- certainly in the last live next year I mean maybe in Italy would have -- I'll say ten years then. This decades the biggest game this deck in this decade -- you could certainly make an argument I think the case they are looking like there -- when you take that in consideration. Couple that with that the Patriots look in this and should be looking at that is as a do or die type of game because of the the way that the you on the playoff ramifications breakdown with a tie breaking system. A bomb this big stuff on Sunday and that's why big stuff that's the National League stuff that's why -- like New England so much because they're veteran experienced team. Who's who had games like this -- at times they faced this situation more times than the Dolphins as and they know how to get it done in the situation and that's why -- like their experience even though there's a lot of youth on this team now. There enough veterans that. That'll be able to get it done and Miami group that they can do that and if they do you know great. More power to them. But I just know it happened. Web radio at Patriots dot com email address send us your thoughts on the game predict the -- how's it going to break down are you of the opinion that this is a do or die -- For the Patriots and or the Dolphins of that matters and we have Miami fans was we always have opposition fans listen in. Generally outside of the cold everybody's too chicken to write in to this program because they think we're going to kill. That's not the case at all we're very clear that Mike Williams -- my -- PFW progress but they're not going to get killed in the -- now that well because you know I like to hear the other point you like the -- the people approach. My dad -- when you when you have something very heated at your going to write to somebody especially in an email write it. And then read it and and think about it before you -- right and then read it again. And and tone it down I put. I've learned to put my emails like that in the drafts folder. Right plucky comeback of comebacks after yeah there was -- defender right then and there -- email really sucks is -- communication anyway be honest with -- mean will do it because it's easier than quickie get it in unit out in that kind of thing but. Frankly it does not. Portray accurately feelings it's the -- and it's difficult to do and because of that you know if you're relying on emotion to re why. I guarantee. Tackle -- appetite what Patriots gridiron guerrillas tried sack it's fourth down -- of Patriots brought a wide variety of flavors at home."
[35:16]" drillers are all you need to. For the perfect just beautiful barbecue chicken out all the Patriots gridiron."
[35:24]" It's Patriot. First don't function homework. Patriots. Gridiron drillers. Brothers are very hard -- all things Dolphins. -- when you just can't wait for Sunday."
[35:59]" playbook for a Thursday genre whatever talent you know from Patriots football weekly. Web radio at Patriots dot com it's how you -- your program. -- hear how you'd think this game will burn out on Sunday between the Patriots and the Dolphins a do or die battle could the Patriots beat. For all practical purposes. Eliminated. From. Prominent playoff contention with a loss. Realized not permanent well contention but in he would have to admit that tiebreaker all legal and against them. It is that we look at here at the -- Try to figure -- the last significant game Miami played says here against Philadelphia on Monday Night Football in December 3 which. I believe they had a winning record but they were all sold nine and evident -- I would think. Even though technically they were kind of out of it well before the last week and so I think in terms of significant game at this stage this late in the season. That's probably. Probably what we're talking about. I'm not canoe I don't remember that in that Monday night game but. I'm sure Russell will when he comes on later. I were pleased to be joined now by Dan beard or who is would be -- the broadcast crew were CBS television -- Greg Gumbel at Dolphins Stadium. In Miami on Sunday Danny and John and Eric thank you very much for taking a few minutes --"
[37:15]" Not a problem -- just."
[37:16]" Were great and let me just going to throw this out to you -- you know you looked at your road game film this week any kind of club mused over those that the match ups and such. -- around here they get all anybody wants talk about -- ahead of the Patriots going to try to defend that wildcat the the Dolphins Rams have a because they were so effective with a in the may only different things happen out of it. But our concern is you get fixated over you know one kind of -- paying way too much and forget the basics and to me at least that part of what happened back in week three you gotta look at it how maybe Miami should approach it in terms of there wildcat formation."
[37:54]" Well. I think -- wildcat did did gears. Did you gotta have the right guy to Jamaica thing work that I I think that Miami has and Ronnie Brown. All I I would I think everyone would agree that after the phenomenal success they had against the Patriots the first time that they roll that out since then it's been okay but it hasn't been. Quite the -- there was -- the first time around. I didn't Miami game a couple of weeks ago. Against Denver. And they ran a -- three or four times early and against Denver completely stuffed it. And that was CO the last time we saw so I I just think it's but I don't. I don't think it's anything that the Patriots are all that afraid of did if any thing. I'd be surprised -- Miami was able to make it work against doing what does this summer out."
[38:47]" Well if you are Miami. Do you at least have a big year. In your game plan I mean because because they didn't stop at the last time."
[38:55]" All -- having your game plan a but I don't think you. I don't think you want to come out runner so all that often than the first series or so. Because I think -- just gives. That's played and New England -- I think New England has worked hard to defend that thing and I think that there are. They're probably it was a little look Bruce after the first Doral. And I expect he'll go nuts to try to stop couldn't get a I'm not died while Miami amateur want to play -- that."
[39:22]" Ed -- an interesting note in the locker room today Mike Vrabel was asked about that that very same question what would you do if you Miami in. His response was kind of interest in that you know I've never coached before but if I were on that sideline. I would try to run that play until the other team could prove they can stop me because there were a well the first time in."
[39:41]" Victory over ought to make no mistake they'll run a nine I just I'm not sure that they're going to come out and inflicted because of -- the first time. That there are going to be able to run it down to England broke distraught by. I have found that there's nothing quite. The equal being angry. And and and try to atone for a both for being embarrassed. I think that's what several motivating factor in this league and doing it certainly has ignored or does."
[40:08]" And now is a television going to play this up the Patriots got to look at it like you know in and really doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out if the Patriots lose this game. Be very hard for them try to find a way to get over Bolton Miami and New York to reach the playoffs. Would you guys going to call this a do or die game for them."
[40:26]" What I I think you know you're right in the sense that yes the could three teams -- the the AFC east and make the playoffs -- it's possible but that they were WR huge problem. Well with the Dolphins but no the Dolphins would be a game ahead of them and he. In the won lost column but they would certainly hold the tiebreaker. With bode well both went and so yes -- would do. This is again out of the Patriots want to make the playoffs I figured got a they've got to say we can't afford to lose this practices this is not what you say what will get a next week this one. This was listed as Tommy boy would say this'll be -- mark."
[41:06]" No question about that what what what has impressed you the most about Miami's resurgence."
[41:11]" Well where -- start -- That the simplest thing has to say will misses this is what football team can do when it finally have a quarterback. Brett Favre. Is the best thing -- and the Miami Dolphins to a long time. Because the chain of events when he goes to the Jets and then they released Chad Pennington. All of a sudden the Dolphins evidence to credibility at quarterback -- by dispose of franchise that a year ago Cleo Lemon started seven games. Trent Green started five games and John Beck started four yeah. So they had no continuity -- quarterback position at all and Chad has brought them most of stabilization. Doubt that you factor in the Bill Parcells factor. And you don't need me you don't know what that is the third New England. That he has brought a mental process reporters brought all they don't like guys in the training hero. Are they only like guys have practiced. They release some people this team Bears no resemblance to the team that they were a year ago."
[42:14]" And now on the flip side of that. What the Patriots have had to pick up of so many different pieces because of injuries and while you -- nobody really likes to use him in really don't use injuries as an excuse what are what are what are your impressions on the Patriots and how they sort of had a -- formulate themselves."
[42:30]" Well it'll certainly -- never use that as an excuse that's that that coaches just don't do that because you don't. You can't give your players. Well reason to think they can't -- at. I I think you've got two guys here and -- brought on billboard chart that that might be competing for coach of the year I've. I did the opener. Against Kansas City -- would not better. And there's quite an old what I saw him go down that tunnel. But that's the last time we were going to see if we would have instantly start talking about how does this team recover from that there's. There's losing our star player than there is losing Tom Brady. And what I look toward the Patriots are now in the second half of the season. Looking at if they win this game in Miami they will be. -- great position -- To be a playoff football team and maybe even win the division. -- I think that that might be the best job approaching built built -- ever done I think that's good that's especially when you look at the editors across the board. -- a number of people on IR and the quality people would have missed watch the games. But he instability at the running back position that in the secondary are. That this might be -- best job ever."
[43:48]" I think you're right then and I'm also of the mind that there are enough veterans on the Patriots team who've been in. Big game pressure type games like this one is. As opposed of the young Miami team who's just starting to asserted self that I think that that gives them enough of an edge in this game. That's overcome. Any. Any surprises that may come up like they didn't victory."
[44:11]" Well I'm just. I've just been around this game a long time that this would be. It would be shocking to me after what happened in the first. If if New England doesn't show up that in itself order where the real attitude. But real chip on their shoulder that they've got something good. To prove that doesn't challenger professionalism. If if if getting. Run over like they did the first diamond and having everybody talked about it for she's so -- could stop talking about. How the Dolphins put it to the pats in this and that the other. -- there -- no way this game works and I know all professional response. To that type -- out W the under the Patriots don't commit. And really just say okay you want to have a good play let's drop the -- so let's go out on the first play of the game."
[44:59]" Then one more -- hear -- hum do you are you of the opinion that maybe the balance of power. It hasn't shifted that at least has begun to shift to the AFC east."
[45:09]" All right if I'm not ready to throw dirt on New -- The."
[45:15]" Okay at least a lot of other people largely that aren't."
[45:18]" Well sure they are but I'm assuming that Tom Brady's gonna come back and play an extra year I'm assuming Laurence Maroney is going to come back complain next year and and you know are obviously. There's some good young talent around you look at -- one up. Well old brother fit with them the rookie out of Tennessee. He's the real deal and and guys like peer awards our going to get. A lot more playing time and I I know I think there's a lot to our there's a lot to like about the Patriots side. Brett Favre does the Jets going. That winless. We was it was huge for them and and bad for you. But the reality is side I'd still think the the AFC east belongs to the Patriots."
[46:01]" Appreciate your touted thanks for squeezing is in -- look for to all watching the broadcast on Sunday."
[46:06]" Otherwise I'm sure everybody apostle watches only the -- thank Annika."
[46:11]" They got it that's of course -- or will be a teamed up with Greg Gumbel on Sunday afternoon 1 PM eastern time for the kick off down -- Dolphin Stadium going to be good when -- And bigger game a I'm going to give you my score prediction now okay -- fire away I think I think New England wins this game when he reported -- So we old and a ten. He gonna keep up ten points one point don't want what do I don't feel 24 and our engine went ahead and did -- I guess I could go on a -- iron into mine too."
[46:46]" Really wanted to pick against the Patriots I have to admit I wanted to. I wanted to because I New York or what but you know why don't it's because it's kind of like you know I'm afraid of -- pick among -- and it's one of those things you know yeah although I have been right about or losses they have -- have been dead on about two and -- I picked obviously the Patriots in the other two losses. While all right Diego I'm going to give you. I'm going to give you want -- court or do you want against the Jets. All that has been getting better and it over analyzes it does know you are I'm going to go Patriots. 27. -- Close and I'm I'm going to go with a close Patriots went I think listening to you and listening to you know bread and in when you guys are doing your picks and I mean you know. As the more than it -- think about it and obviously in just now listening to Dampier or say. You know hey professionalism has got to have you know come to the thought here you don't gonna go down to Miami and they go -- is going to walk through this you have to remember what happened back in week three on your own home turf as well so -- come -- ready to play -- ready for business and you're going to be in you know. Then I question your professionalism. I don't think anybody has ever want ever question the professionalism anybody in that locker room down the hallway here because of that. All they you know what they are sixteen and one. After a loss in 2001. -- 2003."
[48:15]" 2000. 2001 could all right to those who want. At any rate that they've only lost back to back one time now the next and at times all right. So until we don't yet they're the underdog I don't forget ya and they are the underdogs -- basically they I guess you have to be an a in -- show me type estate. And I usually do they are you know what I'm sticking with one thing until I actually hit that I might be convinced go all the while they're playing -- Florida numbers -- that -- I'll I'll -- haven't -- It just you know I think it will be a nail biter I think you will be you know edge of the he kind of thing. I think that it could be decided the last play at the last play of the game last drive of the game last tick of the clock. You know somebody's making -- desperation heave or whatever. It could come down to a field goal you know that could win it you know as time expired. Could go all overtime like last week I think he could be the economy and if it goes in overtime John and neither team scores after fifteen minutes it'll and in a tie. Shock. I didn't know -- Actually about 50% of the NFL apparently didn't -- unconscionable. I talk about it if you left the show yesterday in them we have really good email and it. I think the one that the one that works the most. But Russell's yeah."
[49:25]" Cool job. And it was knocking at the door -- did you know about the over Carolina. Well I'd I I certainly did I thought I certainly did. Notice that and the other top. The way to kick him. And my good friend Tom Jackson America played in the first regular season overtime game yeah between the Broncos the Steelers in 1974 and it ended in a I anyway."
[49:51]" Yeah. That is correct so now we time yesterday kind of try to you're -- better way to do overtime. That not only in light of what ever happened but with the other the -- and the Eagles obviously would have the Patriots in the in the in the Jets last week though in that regard. What do you think in your estimation would be the right way to do overtime in the NFL."
[50:11]" I prefer soft pleasure to type and half. I don't have -- just -- you're right you know it's it's a tough call because I've heard also many argument as to why they have this system and the way they do. And stuff and you know I mean -- said the team. Hesitation as they shot it's stopping the other team right right from the get go. You know I heard Roger Goodell speak about the affected you know maybe need to go on forever and ever. And so on so maybe there's a lot of different ways. To -- for you know take it to the question about almost there is writing answered on. I mean I don't know Thursday. They could system so -- little Italy played tied up until 1973. Yeah and so on that and you don't you really think about it since. We reallocate tie game every two years since overtime began. Have been seventeen Tyson's overtime began had 35 seasons yeah we have been the worst thing in the world -- you know. And as we pointed out last week on the bullets in the various other shows like under the -- In the NFL was Pittsburgh and Atlanta 2002 -- either one of those things -- both went to play also. Here you've done well in fact it that we we talked about the Stuart Spock good games we just alluded to do. And 1974 the Steelers finished at 31 here one super ball. But I didn't exactly. Do you railed evidently. So without the -- going to play out the Super Bowl. It is doobie going without Chad Johnson apparently."
[51:48]" They'll legal because -- ever -- right now illegal because they bought it."
[51:54]" the big problem bought tickets so how do you how do you make how do you make the current system better and."
[51:59]" You know it's I I don't know demeaning you know there's talk -- give each team to beat you to keep your gonna give the team. A procession. Okay. Apologetic does Award from the top quality product thirties when he -- Okay. At the very least I'd. You do from the fifty well. I say only it's easy to just put the ball back out to eat a redo QB get a chance to kick off to both teams have."
[52:26]" the biggest the biggest complaint I hear about you know reverting to the college way of doing things is that well -- you you you keep in the game by not utilizing real game scenarios in other words you know field position doesn't come into clock management doesn't come into. So if that's the biggest. Hinging factor as to why they don't change things for the pure and for the league offered for the majority of those. Who were made the decision making position here. Well I think -- should be done and I had a couple of emails -- it was me on the shall also echo this. Let's play an extra quarter just your gonna put fifteen minutes on the clock and going to let him go. That would be -- way to do it because that way. You you don't take anything away from the regulation from the first sixty minutes that are played you can still play the game the same way you played it for the previous sixty achieved anything you don't let me thank the same strategies come into play. Right that that's number one number two number two and and I Kennedy Miller mentioned this and I actually think this may be a better way of doing it. You going to with a in my mind that that you're going to play fifteen extra minutes yet. When somebody scores. The very next possession that team must either match -- to keep the clock moving or must or pass it. If they are at the games over."
[53:48]" Well I mean -- that sound good everything debate to be honest with -- I mean I just think it's it's. You know it's it's it's a tough call I mean I I don't I don't disagree dating to say go -- on. You know I'd -- I just don't think there's any easy way to answer it. I'm just like -- you know a -- it wasn't satisfying all those years and stuff. You know we're just. What ought to see immediately takes certain things -- meters perfect examples Cincinnati. It's between the tide on Thursday they if they wind up playing a lot of extra time to play a short week now. And so once I mean I did it there's so many variables I think they go and it. And it it it it's a little bizarre. On how you really handle it but I mean. You know put that plan together and and -- affords -- the -- office."
[54:38]" Yeah over the competition committee should definitely take a look at -- just because it made the news -- you know it's it's at people talk and and frankly I think there is a better way to do it in the way they have it now simply because number one we -- what we -- to -- all the too extreme. Which all the Jets when the point -- yes I know the Patriots. Deep -- you know show would have stopped them more on the way they didn't. And they didn't give their all that chance to to come back and that the game ended but the other extreme was is that you know was almost an -- between -- neither team to get in the end zone. You know and -- Philadelphia was a little lackadaisical getting on the field because I didn't understand the -- that figure -- to keep playing until somebody wins."
[55:17]" You know -- don't think there's a question about that I mean you know it's really kind of scary if you really. Looked at. The the wavy equals. Played good in the final moments there'd have a kind of remind you of the Super Bowl and -- Patriot right right. You know what -- did it take to question after heard everything that went on is what else don't they doubt."
[55:40]" Well we're certainly and I was and I don't lump all the players and -- put it if I'm a fan of comedy and I'm ticked off."
[55:47]" Right -- don't I don't quite get our dignity yeah I mean it's it was like. They understand the urgency of -- get the impression that you know the conversation in the huddle. My opinion. You know. Why are we going along. Okay well we're going long because you know if we don't can make something. We're going to lose game. And but you know it's just it's. I think I will say this so I think I was a little more. Taken back by a lack of knowledge on the overtime. In post season. There was even a regular Seattle right right you know that the epitome -- mean."
[56:30]" Growing up that's that's a lot like a basic element of you know understanding of global -- you know right. Yeah you with things are -- Let's deal than what -- what we got on the schedule this week there is another thirteen -- game tonight and since added the aforementioned team that they'll victim of that I. Playing at Pittsburgh tonight and just one of those mines one of those. You know potholes that Pittsburgh has to avoid in order to you know got to keep their head above water in terms of club. You know was staying on top in the division staying up first and foremost in the hunt really or for a -- in the --"
[57:05]" Well yeah and it's you know to keep that they be handled over the years and so on you know beat -- four times in a row now and you know -- you know unfortunately the dangle they come up into this game very very banged up. You know -- head coach who is right and and people of their offensive line into whitworth Levi Jones. You know albeit a -- you know the one thing. About the -- I think where they -- watching is now one other offense at times appears to be limited and you know event that lack of balance which I think is much a product play calling and anything else defensively. They look so much better they did last year. I think their defensive unit is only given up thirteen touchdowns and ten games. And you know a couple of their playmakers who are healthy this year Award instantly helping -- Eric Smith on the defensive line Troy Polamalu was hurt. -- district should be lauded the great interceptions last week. Get -- figured that ball. And -- Harrison you know you know it's funny that you Steelers like Joey Porter ago. And of course we'll talk about it later. In James Harrison missile to build nicely. You know last week at receptions second the end zone for a safety. You know they they have guys who make plays on defense. And they look like a team that you know when you find some -- lamented that his -- defense you can make some place. But what's interesting is. I think you're fighting less cold this year they seem like thirteen it's been covering the -- better not just because of the pressure but because the coach and it's almost surprising considering some of the injuries they've had the secondary."
[58:42]" Right right calm. There are obviously some really dumb interest in games. On the schedule this week I'll get to the Jets in Tennessee in a moment but as far as the AFC east division is concerned. Buffalo is also playing at Kansas city of the bill's done in your estimation and one of the guys around you think."
[59:00]" and talked about it yet I know at least one guy who doesn't think they're done and I'll bet he can figure that it -- Yes about. You know I never really talked to all that much since you know of the game last Monday night. And you know was one thing this -- and lose those games. In the division to come back at home and lose again and again at the wire. Pretty much you know we've witnessed in the field goal late. I think they've kind of you know the fact it was this -- after -- lost three straight games in the division. You don't ever going to be no better than it did 33 in the division and I think it's going to take at least a tiebreaker afford to Barca went it. You know the Jets find themselves and pretty good shape right now because. The Jets it would -- the Jets have already accomplished years this year is they want all three of their division games on the road they only have two more left in both former home against the bills. And the Dolphins. That's why you ever again -- elated that the Miami New England game Christmas we need to be here it's vision of this. Week so but I think Buffalo is kind of if they get they have themselves of the dead weight now I think they're scratching their heads a little."
[1:00:07]" For the Jets in Tennessee other than you know obviously the game that we're most interested in the Patriots Dolphins. Jets and Tennessee's going to get a lot of play all in a lot of places because the Jets of what first of all they did the Patriots last Thursday night winning in overtime and Tennessee because they're general. Would you be surprised if the Jets on the way to win that game."
[1:00:25]" Oh -- at all I don't think there's any question about it I mean I think they're playing with great confidence. I think they are. They've kind of changed or offensive emphasis. They are running the football -- com you can see that the last couple weeks. What they're rushing attempts to you know I think 39 of 43 against the Rams and the Patriots. There was ordered two highest totals in terms of attempts. Tom this year so you really have to like. The way they changed their game plan it's just going to make them more dangerous and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that. You know that. We seemed to we've seen or get on this. Kind of tension about Brett Favre and so. And I think it's community is very interesting is this team was really not built. For Brett -- Bridgeport Connecticut political last minute this team was built. Revamping its offensive indeed it's a blind to help Thomas Jones the running game and to better itself with a 34 -- He would Brett Favre and I think he kinda got away early on with what they were doing -- you are finding themselves. But now you see him doing much much better. In terms. Offense. Deep sense balance in general."
[1:01:40]" You like tennis in this Wednesday and just just off the -- your -- like Tennessee -- undefeated."
[1:01:46]" You know. All of the top of my head yet. Because they think you know -- also was interesting -- seen the Jets Ron work and the crew early on yeah. The last couple weeks and outs in the Titans -- more after running early. And for people who you know it'd be it is we have short memories people who who didn't think he Kerry Collins could do would do in the last couple weeks. And -- five touchdown passes the last two games yeah after throwing just three the first state. People forget why was Kerry Collins in the air instead of into account the better passer beast over 36 that -- in his career. Suddenly all of a sudden we certainly -- while he does not think they're into. You know I don't which six letters but being an -- four letter word right. When it comes quarterback itself. But I think that you should he would they didn't last week. At two weeks the at twenty yard rushing it's prepared but he threw a couple touchdown passes. Last week they were stonewalled. In the first half he came back with three touchdown passes in the spectrum. So. Very very interesting the change of emphasis here."
[1:02:52]" Definitely definitely. Com I have to admit I'm really intrigued also by Philadelphia and Baltimore. We'll find out you know what you know and that -- might have done the Eagles Baltimore is one of those teams that you know is in the mix right there -- New England -- Miami in New York and now and Pittsburgh and in in anybody else that you know would be in contention in the AFC. And you know even though I think a lot of AFC football fans probably root for Baltimore. I think most people have to realize you know one Baltimore's road I want those spots are at their abilities Philadelphia -- it was a little help this weekend."
[1:03:24]" Oh absolutely. -- and a Baltimore. I thought I wanted it would probably a little but he did take that hope you know I guess tumbled as of right word here's a team that had not. I give it up. More than a hundred yards rushing to a key also seated right gave up over to -- York Giants last week. We try to keep -- indication how good and so why it is for New York on effected you do with every Beck showed you that they -- that the key to what the Giants. But you have you really have to like the progress that Baltimore's preakness and -- won more games than they did last year. They are. A team that still plays pretty good decent now -- be curious to see -- teams. Attacked them. After last week I don't think everybody can do with the Chinese state but also people -- that they're missing two starters in the secondary -- to want wintry Chris McAlister both for the year. So it's it's it's interesting. To see -- Baltimore. Can't hang on by the way I I just have to throw this in the here at. For whatever -- They're the Eagles several we have replete rated in Baltimore wants with -- in 1997. Did it in attendance."
[1:04:38]" Leave it to you to bring up about it joke but I. Like it and that's what I can. Well I did say that there are some really good games this week in the really are because you mentioned the Giants the Giants -- going on the road play Arizona I never thought that might be a good game. But Arizona let's give them credit they're on top of that division obviously. It's a strange division but Arizona is evident three they are under -- at home."
[1:05:03]" Yes they are and of course we also relies on the Giants went to that building. So they have good karma there."
[1:05:09]" Yeah I was here I got I don't know I was going to mention that."
[1:05:13]" No I didn't think so of course. You know -- the Arizona Cardinals. Who won as many games the other three teams in the division -- you know it's kind of an odd year but maybe this is the confidence to do it. As for the game goes. Two each started posting contrasting styles the China it's wonderful that giant scored thirty or more points in -- for two more yards the last three games. The Arizona Cardinals have Kurt Warner who's thrown for 300 or more yards four straight games and sixth at ten this year. So they both get it done different ways but it's amazing -- detailed the Arizona Cardinals clinched -- C west this week. If they win and get some cooperation or. You know bad things happen to the niners and the Seahawks. And let me point out a little trifecta of history here -- the Cardinals when it. They will go to the playoffs for the first time since 1998 which is the longest current -- well. They put. That obviously need to win the division they would division they have won the division title since 1970."
[1:06:16]" That's when they were losing -- with Cardinals and won the NFC east -- and because albeit division champion don't post a play. And a lifetime may host a playoff game they were to Chicago Cardinals in 1940. Loves. I love that 61 years yes or yeah 62 years for the summit host the most while that's phenomenal. That's -- play a lot of drag -- here."
[1:06:40]" They certainly can't. Again a lot of momentum on their side I don't know if they'll beat the Giants but it shouldn't -- about our Carolina at Atlanta another pretty good one. I bombed Atlanta has been rejuvenated by Matt Ryan who surely looks like he's a strong candidate for an offensive rookie of the year Award. And I don't know how good Carolina is I realize they're eight and two. I don't know how good they are."
[1:07:06]" Well I think it would you have to look at is good ol' fashioned John Fox T. Solid on the offensive -- the addition of Jeff Otah tackle certainly helps. Tom David -- of running back due to a Williams is coming into -- zone he's got a hundred yard games the last three weeks. You know. Offset by Jonathan Stewart the rookie from Oregon. And defensively they've got a lot tougher. And I think that's the quality addition by subtraction the -- of what they've done this year. Chris Jacobs was traded to New York Jets Mike Rucker retired Julius Peppers which -- And Big -- and had a little bit ever reaper. Plus I think they might have arguably as far as quarterback and up. The best in the league with Chris Gamble at --"
[1:07:52]" Isn't even."
[1:07:54]" So they find a way to get it done. But don't have to work at Alfred I -- the Falcons lost at home last week. To Denver. But no right to hit a lot of poise they would big back in a row with Michael Turner they played very very well at home as well."
[1:08:09]" Alive and division -- unless there's going to be some really good story here. With teams that are going to be much improved and they might fall short of the playoffs they're still going to be -- and the stories here but. -- another -- that might be you know we took the swing gave New England Miami. In the AFC east this might -- to swing David Internet another division that does not have a team with a losing."
[1:08:29]" It means absolutely. I'll be -- Sunday night game Indianapolis at San Diego -- seemed to have gotten it together and the Chargers are reeling a little bit. In fact you know while the Patriots may have their season on the line at Miami elegantly question San Diego he was on the line and home against Colts."
[1:08:48]" Yes it's not a well -- the only thing is saving grace of that right now it's affected Denver's only two games and hadn't -- they do play the Broncos. Again I think if they were in another division. I don't read for it's it's Jacksonville has already been mathematically eliminated from. -- the other AFC south. And now they find themselves two games behind the Colts. If that divisional loan itself -- six. He's going to spend the next few weeks getting back of 500 that's not -- enviable position to be it but. There's something about the Chargers team that every country meet and exceed them. Something weird happens cover last year mediate on -- Sunday night's six interceptions. Fullback the last every time they played. They -- getting good passing percentage. Africa and so we. It's over -- thousand yards in three games over 300 each of those games six touched up to ten picks. So. Number three by it -- Antonio Cromartie that's something that game -- you're -- of course the playoff game which San Diego. I got everybody hurt last year Billy boat had -- Darren Sproles that commit these are still not got the Colts in Indy so now I would say this. No -- very many changes that a lot. But -- you're right if there is any semblance in the Chargers seeded teams still alive they have to win Sunday night especially with Oakland. Going to Denver and you without expected Denver Broncos -- the -- but the shaky to have any problems. Would be greater team who by the way has not scored offered to touched on at thirteen straight quarters."
[1:10:22]" While that right thirteen straight quarter. That Greece. Last week punt return. Yeah that's true and in in darn near won that game too. While the Monday night game is your game on Monday night audience in Green Bay at New Orleans couple -- already 74. It was about the a couple things at five and five -- did we fireworks thank."
[1:10:44]" I don't think there's any question about it we see some fireworks on Monday night because it would of and you have to wake. Well if you if you like wide open football. Not only both quarterbacks are playing well you don't want these defenses are played great. So it would limit itself to be probably attend 98 or eleven another another candidate may be. But I don't I don't think so we Drew Brees has been as productive as any quarterback in terms yards this year. Aaron Rodgers it's probably been the least of the Green Bay Packers problems this year. Last week was the first -- green basically complete football game sees where the -- the -- fired out of the ball. Not the Bears all the ball. Defensively they played well that we Brian grant re emerged last week. Nobody does anything. Without eradicate that included crude Brett Favre get put all the good numbers -- Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. Because of the lack of support from the deep fences in a renegade -- part of our football team. But I expect point to be plenty of that what looked at night."
[1:11:49]" I would think so I would think so -- I guess that kind of brings back full circle then to a the New England Patriots the Miami Dolphins and or -- not you kind of agree with that some of the at the thought process that we've been going through this week that. Com the Patriots really have their backs to the wall here because of the way the tiebreaker comes down the fact is if they lose to Miami in week two loss to the Dolphins. And they would be two games behind them in the standings. We wouldn't be mathematically impossible but for all practical purpose as a Patriot laws on Sunday. Could be as close to a dubbed death blow as exist with you know you know till 56 weeks left to play."
[1:12:26]" Right what it would seem that -- even finished tenth in six. Who might not make the playoffs Salinas seemed to happen once or twice and clearly going to happen last year with the Cleveland violence -- Yeah I mean I think. I think -- proceed -- best effort here. -- had time to go over this offense that the Dolphins Ron. And you see other teams running it is well. Wildcat -- or. Wild boar wild hog wild you know what you know or pretty wild boy -- that's what I meant to say well. But it -- take your pick and that you know they really got caught flat foot at what they thought that we Corey so. It will be interesting but I mean you have to like police -- Cassel performed. You know it's interesting it's why this has to do without. You know the mobility at quarterback and and it was funny because even though the problem. Dolphins were put Chad Pennington and why did those. Formations and I think the Dolphins were going to be the pitcher to warm mystified and anything else you know -- have to -- really consider him a threat. Yet now you look at Matt Cassel and I think the thing is really really reemerged for him. It's effective you know with less about 400 yards passing last week it means more about the 62 yards rushing and taking advantage it affected every time. What do -- Jets linebacker kicked out he read it right up the middle of the field. Coach got a lot of -- days and awareness on his part a little."
[1:13:57]" I don't you know the answer this though I'm gonna digress just for a moment. Last Patriots quarterback for sixty plus yards rushing."
[1:14:04]" My guess is that it's gotta be Steve Grogan was yeah. Yeah its gotta be a -- looked at like Dan Marino out of this this -- sixty yards in his career maybe not. I don't think -- Marino -- Mavericks had a hundred yards rushing in his career. Abby gets here right yet total. Total do you go back and look at it on its web site or so -- or an old fashioned book. I believe he would Sumpter in the neighborhood of like 89 yards or something like that for total career of course he did all right. But I -- out the possibility of going to take the Patriots here. On the back deck for the wall prevalence in. It right -- inexplicable for the third straight week. A couple of narrow escapes against Seattle and Oakland and indeed it's a little too close to the rest now I guess we're going to find up. What's left in the tank -- DiPietro rest hopes the Patriots a little. But I agree with you didn't -- this is. This puts to bed and any bad position of big and this game take tiebreaker wise -- I would say they still have a little gas in the tank it and pulled it out."
[1:15:08]" From a historical perspective let me go back just for a moment -- to -- performance a week ago tonight. When he put up those kind of numbers. What did it bring forth in your memory in terms of previous. Quarterback performances."
[1:15:24]" I mean I you know I think of Steve -- work we're -- so one and and you know number Steve early to. Get quality."
[1:15:33]" To meet the beauty of watching speed developed as a quarterback -- he was probably more for runner. Early in his career much like Roger Staubach what you remember -- you know Roger reduce. Kind of scramble yeah. -- and a runner Steve was I mean what a great Roger leprosy typically like to -- and I don't feel rather -- He became -- quarterback is when he. Resisted that urge to run and had picked his spots right and that's what he became what do more accurate passes and history that game. What would always like that some people think you just speed on the way we don't break from the get."
[1:16:06]" Ron Amadon in the US -- absolutely had great -- Trotter Crocker absolutely definitely can of course made while Padilla got the I'm still don't legitimately held it over here yeah that's the network without forward KP yeah no -- but."
[1:16:24]" Yeah I think that's what are you available I think the guy Cassel -- But the ability to. You know below the slide like Delgado what do Randall Cunningham because with a different kind of running style red -- collided -- he ran. But he also scrambled -- about some guys are writers is that god is great -- To be either both in the cutting. Away would be good runner but he was also a decent -- as well -- and -- with a -- to discredit."
[1:16:54]" I agree -- agree. Well I I think a lot of people around here were sold a much on my cat woman that now everybody feels like he's got to be gone. After the year's over and the word you know franchise has come into play and wasn't that all of golf for after the season is over all the -- with the Patriots tied the ticket tag on him -- it in and try to work out a trade of some sort. Is all between you know now on and start next exit. Fact is though is that Matt Cassel what he has done. With his opportunity. Is at least in my estimation. In one president here. I I don't really remember quarterback. That has had to come in 48. And and that is where I'm gonna I'm going to rely on your expertise in your historical knowledge here in your statistical knowledge as well. I don't remember Corey who's coming in for eighty are a superstar in this league. Who went down early in a year. A backup to come in is actually a backup with a little experience by Cassell and coming in and develop the way Matt Cassel has do you keep up with a I think."
[1:17:58]" The only other person you can think of and he I don't know if you would say he developed. Cut off to -- development of your that was actually Tom Brady."
[1:18:06]" Yeah. Yeah that the only store that really is similar."
[1:18:10]" Yeah yeah. Okay every other guy every -- the ice and you know that you're at a -- show which -- story at right right but those were veteran guys who came off the bench is this is a little. Different you know this is this is that there actually is an odd. -- Position the Patriots eventually be end. Okay. And because they're going to have to try to make a decision what they're going to do with -- somewhere down the road here."
[1:18:37]" Well that decision I'm sure that's my way it -- but my -- money -- why aren't all I don't I don't and a salute their talking about it but I think a lot of it's going to have to do with how they -- you know. Brady's rehab and how it's going because there's no way they've they've invested all this what equity now on Matt Cassel and seen him develop into what he's developing into. There's no way they're going to be left to hold the bag on the thing they're going to get on the or. Right and and whether or not they decide to keep him because they're unsure Brady's status or the not that I'd trade him away and the franchise him and they get a first round pick or whatever in return. They're going to get something out of this as well they should it's their right to do that."
[1:19:16]" Absolutely. The -- they're -- ended their demand. It's something it's that I -- it's actually kind of an --"
[1:19:23]" All little immediately ahead to have a problem again whether they would all rather have had Tom Brady healthy because I think it would all you know feel like you know the team would not be in for. What back special is not the reason for the team being X and you know."
[1:19:38]" that I would say there's anything. And I think he's gotten better at this. You know that you saw early on whereas I think this sack numbers. That were up had little to do with -- Maybe the hesitancy. Of you know about playing -- and so on but I mean it you know that. That's something it's getting to rectify it is a big way you know."
[1:20:01]" Very true. Or Russell I'm gonna I'm I'm going to like journalists on that you get next Thursday -- Oh. Our value others that there's."
[1:20:17]" I don't have access -- Titans Cowboys in. Big -- now sure it's if you want now look at you nuts."
[1:20:25]" But those are what will do that -- will revisit two weeks from today how's that. So you get the off week everybody can enjoy the holiday with their. Friends and their family their loved ones and then part of the that watching football as you should do on Thanksgiving Day."
[1:20:39]" I hope -- by the way has respect and a loved one yes if I -- Gary I miss you already."
[1:20:44]" Yeah and I'd I'd appreciate -- they a lot of people do as well and believe me go to the guys around here who have had to move into Gary's position Iowa it greatly appreciated and I will share your sentiments with them. It Russell have a happy Thanksgiving. Happy holidays do you and your family and we'll talk in two weeks. -- thank you -- Baxter NFL research coordinator for. ESPN joining us on Thursday is as he always does throughout the football season here in that Patriots. Playbook bomb interesting thoughts on you know Matt Cassel and his historical perspective I mean I figured if anybody can come up with. And comparable -- Like the one that week is Patriot fans and followers here have seen emerge. With Matt Cassel at quarterback he could do it and he can't do it. Because there isn't. And he's right and those -- you know -- emailed and the same sentiment."
[1:21:43]" About Powell this story is similar in a way to Tom Brady replacing drew blood so you're right. Is the only other real example lets out there you're talking about a quarterback coming in off the bench with as little experience. As Matt Cassel and the fact that he's developing this is indeed an incredible story it's too bad to get lost. In the overall. Shuffle. Of the season and the fact that you know this team. You know -- had the injuries and it's had the defensive lapses and and obviously we've had you know or a resurgence from the Jets and the Dolphins within the division as well even the bill for that matter. June if the Patriots. Had everybody healthy make up for Brady and Cassel to come in to do this this would be you know a story where people will be talking about it nationally and he might even be mentioned and you know. In the same vein as MVP. It's possible. But it just so much more going on so much more the story. The castle story in in of the LP is getting kind of lost in the entire shovel that is the -- and maybe that's sort of the Patriots won -- of doin' things now. I mean they don't like to focus on any one thing you know that all about team. -- team but there in the -- either. Well that -- the first person was the first player to say that there is no I in team and an easy one and there ain't no they always either. Like all right well -- Matt Cassel going to take time out here in the going to come back and let you listen into his conference call. With the media members from earlier today here at Gillette Stadium as he prepares for. What I undoubtedly is going to be the biggest game of his professional career because there's so much riding on it for the team. And he's coming off. An incredible. And that will wrap up the program for the week with Ronnie Brown let me go ahead and throw in the -- programming update for you at this juncture here. -- next week. All of the off traveling with the college basketball -- I'll actually be an Anaheim California for the averaged a classic. And so I will not be in attendance or road Tuesday and Wednesday shows next week -- the playbook I'm not entirely certain that they have. Adam finalized plans four praised replacement programming at least in this time slot next week leading up to the the pay per game. Of course drawl aware week from today next Thursday. We forget it Thanksgiving Day the won't be any programming on holiday. But and just he'll have to kind of tune in and in -- we can't. Because some that -- point next Tuesday Wednesday in terms of the playbook time line up but so we will be back on the following Tuesday following after your. The Pittsburgh game four road the next addition of playbook well here in studio oh bat. What next week is one of the throwing weeks in college -- on the schedule and try to do some things by -- like you know what will this week from here and and that we have to worry about being answered please and as you know when your three hours away by the time zone as we've kind of dealt with before a difficult to get everything in the thanks so. At any rate back what's going to happen for next week at least. With this particular program and apologized for any inconvenience and they give to you but Hampshire will get over. And -- will be back of them are part of the next week following Pittsburgh. For the recap and that went to a preview. -- the next game so that's what we've got on the schedule programming wise for next week in the meantime. This week's game against the Dolphins third. In a streak of three straight AFC games as we talked about the Patriots. The first back to back to back divisional contest in 2001. We talked about before this streak started couple weeks ago. That is the Patriots could find a way to go to wouldn't want it minimum in this three game stretch they would be a pretty good shape as it turns out. That should still be okay. Three you know obviously. We thought would closed the division out and as it looks that probably would have been. But it didn't turn out that way thanks for the overtime loss last week of the Jets. But if they do win this week into Miami. They are still in good shape. Do you play a team that will realize if you are play -- team you do need to win against playoff caliber teams on the road and that would be what this game there's. The Patriots over the last seven plus seasons. Starting with 2001. They have the best divisional record in the national globally they -- thirty evident eleven. Bits -- second by the way 36 and thirteen in their division or that in time period. One of those eleven divisional law is that the Patriots have. Since 20016. Of them just over half of them have been too. Yeah I. -- I don't know that causes any alarm for you or not but. That is the fax six of those eleven divisional losses since 2001 have come to the Miami Dolphins. -- ago. -- one of the -- we're talking a little bit early with -- you know about the yeah. And email the average from the Cleveland Browns and out and in. Realize that you probably many -- you probably got a chance at least the web and and and find it or a point stories about it but just in the event you haven't known. I hate doing that people when you don't radio show. Whether it's on you know the actual radio or Internet I don't like three -- things that you may not know about it and -- kind of scrambling in league loss and a he kind of doubt that was so at any rate I apologize for that but what happened was in the -- very briefly human and am proud of those already know about it. He's an email. Basically contained a big fat expletive. In response to message that he had received from a fan. During the game against Buffalo. Last week and yeah. Kind of what he's that basically. It was during the Monday night game and Adam obviously you know Romeo Cornell. That is the ball average and -- was well we all get frustrated at times -- generally like the rest of us try to be professional and hold within. But sometimes things slip out it's unfortunate that it slipped out tough times tough things happen I'm sure that we had to do over again we do little bit differently. Anyways hope that that's basically what it is we took a look in the we get a copy of the year earlier -- basically he didn't go root for Buffalo and blank you. That was his response to the fan who emailed him during the game. First of all the bad news -- the -- to rag on him during the game. You know why would you do make sure you're disappointed it is is that the right time to do. What would you expect to get in return I mean really. I'm not surprised at all the victories on the way that he did it was crap out class maybe. Human. Absolutely. It I wanted to bring them because again I hate doing that and when I was radio shows and they're talking about some I don't know anything about or you know that you -- of -- adamant in utter joke and okay you've lost -- click. In the station. Click here than they though I politics than I usually don't do that in we did that I -- read -- there so better late than never again. Are we mention that we're going to get to a Matt Cassel and Ronnie Brown. To -- wrap up the program today and that's -- going to do everybody apparently is by the -- very very confident in a Patriots victory."
[1:34:16]" You that actually have. Responded to the email requesting the beginning of the show mom and vote responded with Patriots win all of them. And I am assuming that because we didn't get edited by -- mills -- the particular question that everybody's pretty competent but this is not out of the ordinary. And that you know this is business as usual and the Patriots are going to win. -- come about and frankly I'm a little price -- that I realize that. You know this sort of a home team radio everybody's at and everybody is confident -- have accomplished. In their team but I think you have to try to at least -- hum -- of standing in the middle here and try to look at both sides of the story because both sides were equally important here. I mean this is the biggest game you know from Miami. Eric injured earlier. Probably in the entire decade. Certainly since Monday night game August 2003 against Philadelphia. When they had a chance for the win two perhaps Ian squeeze in the playoffs so. You know it's the biggest game in a long long time for the Dolphins and their fans as well."
[1:35:17]" And the Patriots of course we all realize are used to playing important games. Over the injured arm with a played in three Super Bowls in four of the Bulls in in 13 of them in their points so. I guess I'm just a little surprised and maybe this is just me but I shall sensing a little complacency in Patriots nation at least those -- were. Well part of this program and and I think that a little trouble. I would expect then that the Patriots lose this game for everybody to be on the warpath next week. Or then again maybe you're just kind of like you know. You just you just kind of it is what it is -- that's what we do around right. Which sort of accept it. And realize yeah this team has been banged up. Juan. One of the most banged up team that ESPN Saturday millimeters and you know this is he has been his artisan is and a comfort and that that. Patriots are easily the most -- team in the NFL this year. Avery will be that every team own injuries to overcome that should not be an excuse or reason or anything else it's just fact. But my whole problem with being somewhat disappointed with the team even though that -- while write -- reasons you should be fairly. Fairly happy with the performance. I I still am left with a a disappointing feeling overall because I thought that this team's depth. Was a little more higher quality. Some of the depth certainly has been hurt and so when you're dipping down into you know especially on the defensive backfield like they are it's understandable. Nobody in the NFL probably has the kind of depth. With just a little disappointed defensively I'm not disappointed at all in the offense. I'm disappointed in the -- I thought it would be better. It's clear that they still got a lot of work to do they can go a long way toward rectifying the situation injuries at all with a win this Sunday. Matt Cassel may just have to help try to you know get this team out score others and I don't think we ever thought we would say that this season. Certainly not earlier in the year when we expect the deepest depth to carry that thing. It's been a role reversal now. 400 yards passing. The 900 yard passing game in Patriots history. Last week in the Jets. He joins Drew Bledsoe -- four times Brady's only going to want. Tony Eason and Steve Grogan and Tom Ramsey each one. As the only quarterback in Patriots history to hit the 400 yard mark in passing. A single game career high. Her high passing attempts of 51 kicker Ryan completions with thirty career high in rushing yards with 62. Tied his career high with three touchdown passes. Pretty good game for Madcast. It was a multimillion. Dollar -- for Madcast. Question is -- he. Can he expand on that and can he parlay that into a performance on the road this week that will still have a talking next week. Matt Cassel and then Ronnie Brown. Running back from the Miami Dolphins who's a part of big part of that wildcat offense and what he expects the Patriots -- might do. As we wrap up the play."
[1:38:54]" I don't know if he's okay."
[1:38:57]" Tournament it's. By. I'm going -- going okay. And where a lot of things. Recognition when it."
[1:39:11]" I think -- back of it anywhere you know I guess my story is. One big gives inspirations just from some of those guys that you know or fight for position. Just to continue to work hard and continue to pitcher. But your best foot forward each and every day in Boston. Quite possibly -- didn't come true."
[1:39:37]" Good times throughout our work is doing just. And -- get his chance here good."
[1:39:45]" Well you think that every week we do we tell you go Tom -- it would take a few shots here and there but it always give up. And his very durable guy and you never know when your opportunity is going to come and just continue to pressed board but there were times that."
[1:40:00]" I didn't know whether or not I was ever going to do on the field but I just try to just keep keep. Keep for very myself what there was face away from me that I was able to do on the field as an opportunity."
[1:40:12]" another quarterback I love having methanol."
[1:40:17]" You know I enjoy -- a little bit."
[1:40:21]" What has been -- to start now receive a little bit more understand my role little bit better and just I feel like a little bit more confident what are you doing."
[1:40:33]" As you look as -- person all right now. Don't watch a lot of -- Q do you see like how and I know -- Novak. You know."
[1:40:42]" It's a little bit of this place here and there I don't think we've played well as an offensive unit that day and I'm sure the team felt like we can put our best performance that day so. Yeah we're working hard this week to get that corrected things go down there got a better performance on Sunday."
[1:40:57]" Mindset and he's seeing double coverage I'm okay -- yet again I don't -- that -- coming out when what did you not practices when you can have my hands."
[1:41:08]" depends on. My read and what we've talked about meetings and so sometimes there are plays that my real big somewhere else. Based on him getting doubled and there's other reason were all there with them a little bit longer because. He's also an opportunity get open on that particular pattern so they're all based on one player and other fans sources say that I eliminated him right away -- just base because. Just based on the fact that he's been double covered and -- it is not a -- all the --"
[1:41:34]" Well it's. Okay. -- plus."
[1:41:39]" There's always a must win for us you know. Pounds from week one to ready now we always a sense of urgency about herself. How would it have been nice to get that win against just of course but we know -- this game -- I was a big game especially this time here."
[1:41:53]" Okay that's the last -- I mean. I mean zero let alone playing your career have you found that."
[1:42:03]" You know you never want to go into a game in that situation and win by a bunch and throw an interception and but that happens as a football player and you have to recognize that I told you as busters that's that it won't be the first of affirmative action will be the last. And as a player you. Yeah your confidence took a little bit yes tell yourself look you there's the next day and and luckily for males it would come back up the next week against Washington and have a good week scored touchdowns but you're scoring drive so. That's football that's -- are going to go through adversity is on the field off the field and you got to continue to push through."
[1:42:37]" I don't want quarterback problems this year room lawyers scrambles and now please -- you very call it cornerbacks -- designed quarterback throws the ball pretty much been scrambles. I feel like can they make it's. Pretty -- on one another reason. Right bull we all had a lot of suggest that we knew that there are doubles guys play a lot of man coverage and probably -- account for me.
