I'm John brook we've got an exciting shows plan for you here today coming up a little bit Warren moon who were hoping quarterback and he's a part of the yeah. Seattle sent -- Seahawks. Radio broadcast crew on -- KIR -- radio 710 in Seattle and Jonas. In a little bit two go over the years Seattle Seahawks and their fortunes in. Some thoughts on the game coming up this weekend also -- you know from Patriots football weekly will join us in the 3 o'clock hour today to get the very latest from practice this afternoon of course the Patriots to welcome in a new member of the defense more on that in just a couple of moments. Actually in new member that he and that's an old him that he couldn't believe you actually thought. That this would happen. If you're just tuning in and you don't know what I'm talking about. And operatives dissect it like to. Lot of -- around the NFL -- well and we don't want you to share your emails with us as always web radio -- Patriots dot -- Web radio at Patriots dot com. Now back to the news of the day. Fact is the Patriots did sign Roosevelt Colvin while also picked up linebacker Angelo Craig practice squad I can't say that I'm totally surprised. What I will say is. What kept them. Now you know guys that. Didn't quite. Reached what the Patriots thought he had capable of him while he was a year -- was let go at the end of last year. Tried to pick up with the Houston Texans -- offseason free agent deal with them and was let -- for the regular season even started. Are clearly. He was not -- is not the player that he was when the Patriots sign him as a free agent from Chicago. That hip injury that he suffered on in Philadelphia few years back obviously has taken a little bit of the yeah the starch out of the shirts and Roosevelt is also set in effect he said on WEEI in Boston and you may have even hurt him here as well say that Adam. You know what I'm happy with my career. I don't necessarily need to go back into football and finish on an uptick upbeat finish labor temperature and he's very. Each set. You know he had a good Korean could run well as he didn't need to continue to hang on football. And I you know what I really admire that. I really appreciate that. To me I think -- that's the sign of someone who is -- true. Professional. It every. In every way. So this is why I'm particularly pleased to find that the Patriots have decided well you know what here's a guy that. Certainly isn't what he was. Because if he was when he was they wouldn't haven't right now I would. He probably still be in Houston or he would have signed with some details. But the fact is. Is that he decided to do this because he probably feels like he can still contribute number one. I really doubt because he's very successful businessman as well. I really doubt that he's doing this to come back the money just prolong his career and grab another paycheck I really don't think Rosevelt Colvin. Is that way. Based on my knowledge. Of him listen to him speak. I know him limited -- but just I can imagine he's come for the book here. In -- probably pro rated free agent veteran minimum he's come back for. So in that respect. He's going to back number one because he feels like he can contribute like any contribute because he knows the system of course. He knows how to play these guys. In us how to play with these guys and he knows there's a definitive need. A definitive need. And because of the injury situations and such. He's going to step right in. Apparently it could happen as soon as this weekend in Seattle. I kind of thought that once so. Once and it was Thomas went down a few weeks ago that this was probably. On the burner. All of it was the back burner the -- it was definitely on the burner. Since that point. I also. Had a sneaky feeling that the Patriots were probably try to contact victor hobson again accord was signed as a free agent in the offseason. Signed them and like Roosevelt Colvin when he was released by the Texans. Option was cut by the Patriots before the season started. And I understand the big props -- his signed deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. So maybe that's part of the reason why he did not come back in when when maybe the Patriots also felt -- little bit more comfortable call them because he'd. At least what they've proven commodity while he was a year. And Hobbs and obviously been played last year with the Jets and didn't have quite as much background with the Patriots. But if one wasn't available maybe it would have been it looked like the Patriots had several options. I'm also mildly surprised kids. I'm mildly surprised here. But the Patriots have not contacted Junior Seau. Now that as a mean they haven't. And maybe he just said thanks but no thanks I'm finally done. I guess you'd have to consider that's the case. And maybe junior decided not to do it. Similar big as he realizes the Patriots are fighting an uphill battle to get to where he wants to go. You know it's a finite amount of time maybe Junior Seau has reached that happy place in his own football mind as well. That you know one I'm okay without it I don't needed anymore and just the fact that I never won a ring doesn't matter. I'm okay when he's still hall of Famer on the we'll realize that that's about as much about slam dunk. As you can yet. But I'm mildly surprised. That he's not wear them I thought that maybe. The desire might still be there. I certainly believe that the interest. On the Patriots behalf. Is still there. But what I also think it may point to is affected the Patriots are just incredibly. Pleased with the Jerod Mayo I think we'll probably realize and that between male. And Bruschi in the middle. What we currently have as well. Calm. In -- rules simply going to be you know as a back -- middle linebacker anyway. Maybe it is decided that will be too much to overcome who knows just mildly surprised though he wasn't in the mix here. But victor. Hobson probably considered Rosevelt Colvin. Is the new site. But of course five seasons with the Patriots from all three through most of them. -- 117. Career games. 75 starts. Overall in nine total seasons in the league. With the Patriots and the Bears. Forward and fourteen career tackles. He has 52 and a half career sacks. Three picks. He's forced fourteen on Bulls nine fumble recoveries. By the way is 52 and a half career sacks as he re activate himself this weekend. That will rank fifth amongst all active NFL linebackers. What is that kind of experience. You really can't. He can and value. Sounds pretty. -- let's get too well let's get the phones Warren moon."

Play from 8:26[8:26]" Hall of Fame quarterback. Now what part of the broadcast crew for the Seattle Seahawks on Cairo's Edmonton Seattle kind of -- since the play book today at war and it's indeed a pleasure talking pitcher howry today. -- a wonderful thanks you'll recall this at all but when -- quarterback with the Houston Oilers. I covered Oilers training camp regularly. And we had many opportunities in those. Getting them up interviews with a lot of the guys from the Houston media in San Antonio media in it was hot. Hot training camps in San Angelo Texas finally do you look -- most days in San Angelo."

Play from 9:02[9:02]" All about -- all. Yeah we are training camp projects in the fire and -- cooler place degree weather -- and humidity or whatever we start at west Texas where we ended up. Move into -- Santangelo. We've moved to. I think there were. Total for a lot they were all over the place so. It just -- victory you couldn't expect humidity at Texas and I don't look back volatile days at all."

Play from 9:30[9:30]" hope -- and it was pretty operas do and we didn't have to put on the pads trust me."

Play from 9:35[9:35]" I'll tell you out of some of pressure from actor motivated -- who are not match -- beat you -- there's no way not to get in shape."

Play from 9:42[9:42]" Absolutely I believe that. -- obviously this game this weekend is a little different for both sides the Patriots are still trying to hang on I think in terms of the playoff chase for the AFC. What are the Seahawks trying to hang on to."

Play from 9:55[9:55]" Well it is trying to replied you're so very proud organization though we won our division the last five years I'll pick them playoffs many times. Britain was Super Bowl in past three years so this particular not used to use a mean I used to losing and Michael rid of not coasters are used to -- regular. And that would want to got to send him out hopefully a winning note he's not have a wedding singer commissioner obviously the government record -- can -- They can't at least maybe some. Together summed up those -- winning streak Zimbabwe and you can explore all games to intercede."

Play from 10:30[10:30]" How do you feel how this team stacks up because of their injuries. In an effort to try to win these next four ball games as you say."

Play from 10:36[10:36]" Well let's start getting healthier in no matter how selective on the back of a lot of quarterbacks are getting somewhat consistent receiver play another one. Position -- devastated by injuries this year their top five receivers went down for the season and even got started. So that they're really out there trying to recoup a lot of different areas offensive line those kind of banged up but. You know a couple of doubt about this topic there are not does help -- year but they're close to it. And I still play yard -- continue to play our. Good thing might happen to you."

Play from 11:09[11:09]" You know I realize this is probably a kind of far -- question but since you played for the Seahawks in the late ninety's as well. And you set a franchise record for passing yards and one season with them -- back and I think it was 97. How has this organization. Morphed because I was speaking yesterday with a couple of the -- reporters. And they feel like under Mike Holmgren this organization this franchise. -- elevated itself from basically being considered mediocre in the NFL. Do you find that an accurate assessment."

Play from 11:38[11:38]" Mediocre. -- I don't think you're the past more pipes which is what would -- way. Organization in the -- and are in the AFL -- the other Patriots I think the the Indianapolis -- so there's a very are good football team as a very good organization the organization. There's really Jays on the leadership -- blocked -- and -- really brought community involved in the room in the team a lot more American ever been before. And that's why didn't -- such top players to play on the road at their stadium -- twelve -- crowd and also because they had a pretty good football team over the past five years."

Play from 12:17[12:17]" The most definitely have certainly have to concur. Where that's concerned and yet it kind of fallen on hard times certainly for several reasons we've already talked a little about the injuries as well. Coach Holmgren has already made it clear that he's going to step aside at the end of this year. How much has that affected the way this team has played this year in your estimation."

Play from 12:37[12:37]" I don't think suspect they're all -- all people try to talk about the lame duck theory but. This is not a course that started going to be gone because he's been losing him because the other -- success like most lame duck coach Carr. It because he's decided to retire and I think the players have tremendous respect for him as a coach become so they have Ontario. And they want to come and understand him and a great arm but. But devastation of religion all this lady is so so even when you have that many good teams met. It was very hard you ought to come from mattered and that's been the biggest problem. And you're out coast that you consider a lame duck coach. The culture and -- in -- or you're here would almost perhaps a real player -- the -- other players are sort of got the current United appeared next year we're going to be Nigeria almost absolutely back away via. As well also all the -- replies in this particular situation."

Play from 13:32[13:32]" It's very good point. Being -- expert at quarterback as you worry at one point in time. What stands out about Matt Hasselbeck right now do you at this stage of his career."

Play from 13:44[13:44]" I think certain knowledge is suffering what he does offensively. He's going to close quarterback has been very fortunate to play once or some. -- out play sports are cute but he's always started. One team Eddie played in the same -- I was struck by my former when he was worth reading stories -- play an assortment -- for factor. And he really molded in side I think that analogy brings some table he's a curse mark quarterback. Well I'll look more athletically then end up perfectly good people give them credit for."

Play from 14:13[14:13]" Julius Jones was an offseason acquisition at running back. I realize that the season is not complete yet but would you stadium his debut season in Seattle has been a success or failure."

Play from 14:24[14:24]" I think it's special access Olympic quality start out of bullets are running backs religious aren't -- yardage mistress are the first three or four weeks. But when the teams you'll start to lose -- were by the -- and ball games. He just didn't get to touches in the cures and football game that he does they have very pure put up back as late so. It was relegated more through passing situations. More -- more passing situation back. We just didn't get detergent that he was getting earlier in the street and Eddie is not done at that platform -- over the course of a year but. A stupid little bit out of acquisition based on what BL running game has been mostly all over the last two years partisan rubble."

Play from 15:03[15:03]" And you courts also have they a former Patriot wide receiver Deion Branch is back healthier than he has been and I know that. It seems at least from my vantage point and from a lot of Patriots fans' standpoint that it had been a little bit of a disappointment. -- to this point in time. Do you think that he has. Shelf life in Seattle."

Play from 15:22[15:22]" I think it does they'll force a -- out as he has been hurt. All the the last three years or just effort that didn't seem like one injury after another coach. He tries to come back maybe a little bit too so brilliant -- Aggravate another -- called the -- and -- and that's one reason he took a long immediate impact from this this last -- he had. Sort of struck because we just didn't want to come back to -- whenever you almost -- he's been productive so yeah you -- say maybe is a disappointment because we haven't been on the field as much recovery injuries but when he about the air. He's been very effective."

Play from 15:59[15:59]" I war and I know that this is -- an 82 wins in football team but I'm certain that you found some silver linings and otherwise dark cloud. What are some of the things that have surprised you any positive sense. -- your observations of this football team that's more."

Play from 16:13[16:13]" Well. The artistic perspective that the chair to his team showed in not given up vote. You're not going to really talk about different individual performers and we're going to have eroded -- any individual performances that are still without. Because you have -- and the -- the real long enough or we're -- And that type stretch a bit and some of the -- performers they've kind of been supporting on on the ticket out so well -- we airport phobos last year but. I haven't heard about about what these guys practice to a three times a week. And I see Arturs to continue to practice let dispute there's no. A more open around let's shoot a lot of rumors still positive. Superstar players are on Sundays registrar of undermanned and -- they lost Protestant house game the three losses they had were by a total of eleven point so. There are tickets still all game but they're just -- the way to win those games like they used."

Play from 17:06[17:06]" And is there -- matchup in particular as you kind of -- your homework on this game as a matchup in particular that you've got to look at afford to look to watching. Individually speaking."

Play from 17:15[17:15]" Caldwell like that against Walter Jones you know Walter Jones are little better chuckled and in the National Football League you know restart that you could look older his career. But he always turns to a lot of against one of the other opponent stressed -- Russia's so well that might be might be the murderous migrate or or maybe Rosevelt Colvin a month deal up preachers just picked up. Ours look look to see -- matchup that Walter has recover Alexia are you can handle those guys one don't want."

Play from 17:43[17:43]" I appreciate the time and a little bit short today but greatly appreciated -- wondered visiting with you again. So you know let let let's go let's -- look at it like this number one eyed today for those we were listen for."

Play from 18:16[18:16]" Number one. How happy are you having Roosevelt Colvin back into the fold. How happy are pleased. Displeased. Do you feel like they could've gotten -- any other street free agent what are your thoughts what are your opinions. On the Patriots signing linebacker Roosevelt Colvin back into the back into the -- Was there somebody else out there that you think they perhaps should have gone after instead. That's number one thing. I also got -- curious I mean you have to expect -- going to happen. We talk to someone like Warren when he talked to anybody who works for a team and as a part of their radio broadcast crew natural and they. Positive spin but let's face the Seattle team is two and ten overall. How much -- Seattle's. Lack of success this year influence. -- apathy. Let's be honest about it let's cut right to the chase. They were all still spoiled here. I didn't mean any of us realize. You know what's what -- this Patriots football team this year. That it is a struggle has been a struggle probably will continue to be one. But the fact is is that because we're so used in condition did. To winning dominating to being in the playoffs to winning titles you know -- moving on that kind of thing. And the team was struggling right now. And because this team has an incredible record over the last five years. Especially after losses. Don't you kind of feel like this is slammed on the Sunday. What you gotta feel like this game is you know. Can we move on to somebody else hear. Me and be honest with yourself okay I'm just I'm being honest -- here. -- you really think that that the Patriots should roll over the Seahawks even if it is a rodent. Special because the Seahawks are two wouldn't and what do they possibly have left the play four in spite of what Warren moon just said or what anybody says about this you know and I'm not I'm not trying to be. Not trying to denigrate the Seahawks or anybody else here. This is a human nature type of reaction. We all kind of think like it is. I just simply want to know if you feel like that. So that's coming up we mention that we'll get an update of practice Dave roberts' -- you know PFW. He in just a little bit here on the show but another half hour -- so. And then I believe that Matt Hasselbeck on the Seahawks quarterback is. Holding his conference -- member of the Patriots media also about a half an hour we will bring that to be as well before we're through here on the program today. But this is the first time that the Patriots have played the Seahawks. In fifty years. But really get a chance to play NFC teams especially west coast team all that often right. Eight or just until a couple of days ago you know if you'd said Seattle. What coverage alien articles AFC. That's just how old school. Remembering before they you know switched leagues but -- the first time in fifteen years. As the Patriots. -- last month of the regular season clearly. Needing to win everything they still have on the schedule. Don't know what Seattle say about that I'm sure that the Seattle you know is -- suggested -- a little while ago these guys want to play win. Quotes already this week from Mike Holmgren seals coach that says you know -- candidate about -- into and we're still going to let them play every game to win. Races this quote is whatever that means is for the roster well -- that's what we have to do. Okay. It means that you can put the best available available players up to the Patriots went in a lot of times always Pittsburgh Bill Belichick isn't it. -- mean at least right off the bat. This game boils down two things one. Can they keep Matt Hasselbeck up right he was sacked seven times. On Thanksgiving Day against Dallas in that 3049 laws. You know -- to have any extra time parent. And and get ready for the Patriots certainly is going to benefit him having a little extra couple days between games. Number one that's that's it you know this is an opportunity for the Patriots may -- that's one reason Rosevelt Colvin decided to re sign here who knows that he's look at his chops. You know -- said that you know that should be a key matchup. Whoever's going to be rushing on Walter Jones just on the football Jones being -- yeah left tackle for the Seahawks. Could be a guy like Seymour. Could -- guy like. Colvin. Could you know I mean who you don't think about it. Maybe like hey this is a great opportunity for me to get back in a nickname myself and maybe even who was part of the contract are another deal get back with a good graces. I don't know if anybody really has that kind of foresight that maybe you can understand one come from. There is opportunity. Specially for the Patriots. That's from one number two the other thing that ethical conduct of this game. This is this is really chance for the Patriots offense did get back to one of the things that I think the Dolphins -- extremely well. And I just play smash mouth horrible run football Seattle's defense. Is undersized. It certainly has not been to their benefit on terms of the quickest speed because they haven't really been able to keep a lot of healthy bodies out there. And I think because they are somewhat undersized loaded in the front seven that teams have been able to physically. Overmatched them in some instances. And you know Patriots had a rough week last week Matt Light had a rough week last week. In which James Harrison and the Steelers so maybe this is his chance to go to some straight not back football. What's Pamela middle Sammy Morse. Why not. While -- haven't healthy while -- available to throw between the tackles. Let's see what you do -- control the ball. And let's see we can't manned up on north Seattle these -- that has taken its own share of licks. Throughout the course of the season. Don't I mean that's really. And it really kind of where I think this whole thing boils down and the Patriots do that number one. And number two. -- Seattle on the other so football keep Hasselbeck up right now if they keep him up right and they give him time. Regardless -- don't want to. Then he he certainly proven to be accurate and he can do some damage and that we all know that the Achilles heel this Patriots team is still. Defects. By and large it's still defects. And yes even Matt Hasselbeck and the two -- in Seattle Seahawks are capable at home. Of move the ball and scoring. In ultimately beating the Patriots they are. If you don't put pressure on him. If you don't keep him. Uncomfortable. In or out of the pocket. That's that's got to be a point of contention in part of the game plan for the pats this week. These teams haven't played each other. In the regular season game in Seattle on September the seventeenth of 1993. It's actually a little bit more than fifteen years since they play. And since that time here's a little interest in fact from Patriots PR. Since that time the Patriots have played in every other NFL city. So gone the longest between trips to Seattle over anybody -- totally. The previous fourteen matchups between New England Seattle seven and seven. Couldn't be more or even right seven wins for the past seven wins for the Seahawks. Course last time these two teams played was at Gillette Stadium. Four years ago 2004. And the Patriots won thirty to twenty game here at Gillette. And before that you have to go back to about 1993. Against -- via. Last on the plate CO the guy just said that's for chemically fifteen years for for the play in Seattle in fifteen years what I meant. They play that 2004 -- actually remember that -- Hasselbeck actually did not have a bad game at all. I'm so at any rate Patriots -- one the most recent game. Now but it's been fifteen years since they play in Seattle that was of people kingdome which obviously no longer stands. Many have to go back to 1985. -- Well the last time they play they have played 366. Games. In Foxboro. Between appearances in Seattle. How about that that's what the rules statistical anomalies and six time they played three times. Three times -- Sullivan three times in Foxborough. And that which played at Gillette you know -- that is -- that's a real. Weird thing to have happen. But 77 overall that -- twelve times in fourteen years -- From 1980 to 1993 but have only played one time in 2004. Since that time so. Com. That's that's us a little bit of a statistical anomaly the last time these two teams played in Seattle. I was prior to Bob Kraft ownership of state James -- one was the owner. -- believe at that time. Some of us will remember that the team's future right here New England was severely in doubt we -- back bitten. Well that's in the certainly pleasant memory you want for a visit but it certainly turned out well that it not. Tennessee -- the only non divisional team the Patriots have played twice in the regular season in the same year. Think about respect twice in the regular season in the same year in a non divisional team how does that happen. Well that happened during that 93 season I was the only year in which the league's sixteen game schedule was played over an eighteen week span. And each team was allotted two bye weeks here. -- Patriots played them twice in nine victory. Bizarre they lost in Foxborough seventeen to fourteen. They lost at the kingdome. -- 92 they lost both of those games in 93. Patriots dot com is the email address a couple of different things for you to sound off on today and number one your thoughts on resigning linebacker Roosevelt Colvin on into the mix. In what is there somebody else out there that you thought might be a better fit. And number two. You know it's sort of gotten tags along what we talked about yesterday that the Patriots are still a playoff caliber team we talked about on yesterday show. Are you complacent. About this Sunday's game do you feel like this is a walk over a game a walk over win just because it's too intense Seattle and it is the Patriots should. Beating perceived inferior opponent. Or you is there is there any concern at all in your mind. It loses they lose a bowl game for the Patriots. Web radio at Patriots dot com our. He -- Jameson Roanoke rapids North Carolina SS after Sunday's debacle it can no longer be disputed. This year's Patriots are no longer one of the elite teams. You cannot be considered a top team when you have been blown out. -- three of twelve games and have to struggle in the close games the way the Patriots are famous for winning. I'm not saying they can't make the playoffs but it is going to be hard to do so in they do I don't see them getting by the first game. Sense -- let's have a great day arts thank you for the sentiment but while that -- up. Okay you know I think that's probably look at realism creep in and there and that perfectly fine I think we all realize that. Com you know. Chances are not good to get back to the suitable. Doesn't mean it cannot happen we don't know how this team. Is going to you know reinvents itself over the last month it's clear they have to reinvent themselves in some way. Over the last month otherwise you're right Jane you're absolutely right they won't go any farther if they even make the play of that won't going farther than that first wildcard weekend. Like economic yesterday up -- or about resting starters. There will have that debate this year again. If you're going to be playing wildcard weekend one way or the other."

Play from 37:26[37:26]" Blown out of three of the twelve games well ball being blown out of sort of I guess I don't really know the exact way to put it bullet I think it's sort of a relative term. The Patriots were blown out score wise this past week against Pittsburgh. And it was 33 and but I didn't really think of the game was being a blowout. Did you. You know this was attention game at halftime I think we also have time at this was a game that. In the picture should have led at halftime after having you know Randy Moss dropped that you know it's what you touchdown pass. And even on top of that in -- just ask you missed the 27 yard field goal. And he's usually money. Cal led me to believe that oh criminals going to happen but you know at the very least they could have gone in up thirteen to ten and should go on -- seventeenth and that. I think that would change the entire complexion of the game. This was still pretty close game tight game him -- that third quarter and then of course that's when the turnovers started to take effect in. Pittsburgh took advantage as good football teams are supposed to do. So the Patriots -- handed. Pittsburgh. Opportunity. I'm saying I don't think that would blow I don't think anybody can really say that it would. Com the only game that I look at in my estimation that really was a blow out and I'm not sure that it would have changed. One way or the other. I would probably. You know I'm even going to hesitate and that won't probably be Miami. Well I think back. Score wise it would -- him because it was 25 points. Back in September but I feel like that is a game that had the Patriots been a full strength and Tom Brady been around in such. Was before Matt Cassel relieved continued development just think that they would've found a way to win that on the one -- I think it was a blow up that they really had no shot of winning once San Diego. I was what thirty to ten loss. To I would say blown out using your -- James is probably just once. And even so you know it's three scorched. I think over the course of the season and less. You know EU or a an elite team and I really think there's only a couple of teams that Yankees considered -- this year right now. Titans probably. Giants. Probably. And don't really know that you can consider anybody else in the unifil books or as an elite team and here we are going in the last month of the year. I don't know that other teams don't get beat I mean teams Phillips -- all the time. The Patriots true or not. Winning. The close games like they have in the past and I think a lot of noticeable because the personnel has changed different lot of -- injured I mean there's 67 starters. You know defected to James Webster. Went on IR yesterday I mean you know Patriots continued to have guys who have started games for them go down. And outs for the entire season. Again not an excuse but it is a contributing factor. So I think that's more liable to happen. What I think is also significant known -- that I think there are some in the media. We talked a little bit about this on yesterday show. Are some of the media that are continually impressed with the Patriots ability to just be competitive every week. Because of the number of injuries and because you have lost the NFL's reigning MVP. I mean that would decimate. Most any other team any other franchise any other organization. And Patriots continued his remote. Because of how they built the depth. In the team in the organization and you know that's it in because of the system we have a place here to system that certainly just about everybody and every other team in the league. One time and others try to emulate or at least try to copy part. To work at their own plans. So in that regard. I just you know the you know they're not an elite team but doesn't mean they're not a competitive team. There's a difference and I think we'll realize the stepping down -- lead to just competitive merely competitive he is a little bit of a change for for us. In covering it and following it in in watching it now in experiencing the the Patriots. And so what if we don't -- by the first somewhat. Active right now I think we would fall in correct me if I'm wrong here please do. Please correct me if I'm wrong and I'm sure you will send me the email web radio at Patriots dot com but what are we all be happy. Just happy to get to the playoffs this year we that spoiled. Can't we consider what this season is as a single entity in forget about you know the past. You know the successful past shore but for the time being -- just appreciate. The struggles that this team is head to go through. In order to reach the post season if they get there. -- I think that's a story into itself I think it's a story that won't really be truly thoroughly appreciated here in New England. Or by anybody and in the in Patriots nation speak. I think the national media will will will harp on jump on it if the Patriots make the playoffs -- the be all over. If the Patriots don't make the playoffs I think that will be a significant story after week seventy. You know that run through all right here's the playoffs in years the teams have been eliminated and all my goodness the Patriots are out. I think that'll still be a story because of what they have done in the past. Kind of convenient using in the past and not using it but you know that's that's just that's what -- You always look for the the other angle he always looked the other side of the story because the Patriots will be on the other side of the outside. Looking in in this instance that's going to be a story. -- for team that was in the Super Bowl a year ago. But it'll be a huge story if they make the playoffs considering everything that they've had to go to this year. And just get into the playoffs I think is a major major. Victory for this team is attainable. It won't be easy and as we've said. This team have to win four games to do it. In in short of winning the next four I don't think the behavior that I would go on normally haven't said anything short of eleven of five they won't make the playoffs. And you know after last week's games accident a couple of weeks after last week and I don't the world closer to that realization because of the way that they lost. I thought originally that when the Pittsburgh. They didn't and now they really put themselves you know against the wall."

And I -- the collective we here you know those who cover the Patriots realize that I doubt very seriously that many fans look at it like that. Play from 55:40[55:40]" Yeah I you know their fighting against a couple of teams now I think Miami obviously tied in second place in the division there and also Baltimore. -- at this point fighting for that wild card spot because it. Not impossible obviously you know the Jets could go on -- skated knowing -- could win. You know three or even for the in the remaining four games and they -- back on top again and you know it it as things shake out you know it's still possible mathematically I think from the get a a bye week. Play from 56:32[56:32]" Yeah yeah I guess that's right because the other 75 regulars -- none of the three right. And we've pretty much captains and a half games but you know yeah you'd have to say that the -- three games -- the C Reiss of the head hit spitz would probably have to lose their last four. Yet its certainly right either escalators that mathematically it's possible but I right it's a little and in my you'll far fetched. To expect that that happened but I think their best case scenario is. You know it they're only a game behind the -- Well that's that's that's that the more plausible want to try -- try to win the division. Absolutely ia and -- I mentioned yesterday I think that's the more believable scenario. Is considering what you know lies ahead of them especially what's on the schedule. With them Indianapolis and any Baltimore to an extent winning the division may be the easiest route to don't know Baltimore has extremely hard schedule. In the closing four weeks of ahead yet they have Dallas right and in Washington Dallas and own a skate and it just looked it up short time ago too because I wanted to. Oh Pittsburgh via I think Pittsburgh's the last game and and is one of the game in there that I that I can remember my head but. Yet difficult but -- I could easily see them winning. Three of those last four games they could. But that they lost three last for the -- to give you know opportunities so clear that there there's there's opportunity there it's going to be difficult that's why. It Patriots really don't have any room for error here over the last four weeks and it's they've pretty much going to squad when it and it's so that's what I kind of find it a little. -- it surprising in one way. And it's not surprising in another. You know that's why ask about the apathy amongst the fans today because. Frankly at that you look at it on paper he's it's too intense Seattle. Yeah should they should win this but I mean yeah when you're in the position Patriots are in. You don't have a reasonably -- right and and you know I I also hearkened back to."

Play from 58:29[58:29]" Few years ago when they when they went fourteen and two and one Super Bowl in what one of those seasons believe his 2004. They wear and actually only lost one game and they were used in December late December they went down to Miami for Monday night game. And Miami was I think one and fifteen a year or or two and fourteen. And what happened Patriots laid an egg and they lost on Monday night to a horrible Dolphins team at that point. And you know obviously does it didn't affect their their season they won the Super Bowl on all but everybody went down there expecting. You know -- general through this and gone and what happened they lost that. It is the way the seasonal in the in the NFL any team can beat any other team the margin. Between good teams and mediocre teams is really tiny. And it doesn't take a whole lot for one team to be that much more motivated on a Sunday or Thursday -- whenever. To beat the other team no matter how talented the other team might be or how much better there are are what their records might be at the time. Anything can happen and it this Seattle team kind of scares me because they are. At that stage in the season where you think all their their push over he you know he should easily beat that team yeah you probably should but. They're starting quarterbacks coming back. Their best receivers back we view when new England's receivers right. And New England secondary is. Taking hits every week they just lost. Jason Webster who they brought in to help. With some depth that they've lost a few guys on that that's for defensive backs on IR this year but they've lost the couple linebackers who. May or may not be out for the season but because we still don't know about Dallas Thomas but they brought in Rosey Colvin to add some depth because Pierre Woods got hurt the other day. Is that these fans that really hasn't lived up to its billing this year. And their sustaining all these injuries. And Seattle's offense -- are ready even with Hasselbeck and and and branch you know has an excellent quarterback for a good receiver. -- rookie tight end Carlson the -- from Notre Dame he's looks like he can play yeah he's pretty good player."

Play from 1:00:36[1:00:36]" So yeah you know what I that's actually spot on the that's exactly what I said to me up of this game. Boils down a couple of things number one whether or not the Seahawks can keep Hasselbeck -- right. Fact is is Dallas just patted him on March that's number one number two. Whether or not the Patriots can. Continue to do what other teams have done against Seattle defensively and that is basically over power and undermanned somewhat undersized -- and and -- Patriots can you know answer affirmatively in in both of those questions then yeah they should win the game but you know. Seattle is not what I would call a typical two intensity and his team that is. You know had a tremendous amount of success in recent years and you know we talk of Warren moon in the last hour -- and you know and -- thought that this program you know that that team. Had this certainly risen from the levels of Miki mediocrity like it might have been that ten years ago when. When he was there but I wouldn't say that -- and and the fact is is that they're very competitive -- that this team was probably a lot closer. In terms of you know where they thought they would be in terms of personnel over but it was healthy. To fit into the into intent."

Play from 1:01:38[1:01:38]" Right yeah I -- I still think that I mean and they had a lot of injuries and they've had their struggles this year but I still look at them as a potentially dangerous team especially. Going. This is going to be the starter to game west coast trip the second of of of such this season for the Patriots. It's going to be in Seattle which is going to be kind of cold and rainy. And that's it that's that you know ended the Patriots used to playing that kind of weather here but. To travel all the way across the country and do it against the team that's struggling it to me this is a this is a classic game where the team that should win. Possibly is going to get into. A Lions then if you well where it's sort of a trap where. You think that the other team. Looking interest. On the face of it looking at their record that that. You know -- that it's going to be an easy game in I don't know I'm I'm just a little I'm a little bit nervous about it John and I going to be honest with --"

Play from 1:02:36[1:02:36]" Well below will continue to to have go through some of the other things with -- moment that I wanted to get an update on. What you might have seen the of the media viewing portion of practice today and there's anything. In the late going on yeah it was an interesting day actually and."

Play from 1:02:50[1:02:50]" Locker room and out of practice. You've obviously -- talk about the Colvin signing we also got the talk today for the first time. To Wes Welker the first time since then he got that it devastating hit by Brian Clark and he was. Asked about that obviously that was the big thing everybody wanted to talk to about and you know his credit. He said you know look them if there was a good football play that the ball was Tipton and the guy came in and made a play in. -- he wasn't really griping about it not being legal or ethical whatever he does today you know that that that that's what it was you know on this football. And also said that you know that want to know how we always feeling how we responded that it needs like you know. We're just going to have to see you know how we respond to a but he did you know when you get those kind of things it's gonna get up and try to shake them often. Try to bounce back the best you can he was out of practice today okay so I don't know that yet and part in drills so it looks like he's. On his way -- coach Belichick was asked about it in his press conference today he said. You know Wes looked fine after the game and I talked on the morning any any -- fine. And we know concussion that we know in the wall not that we know of not that's been closed and he certainly didn't look like. There was anything lingering from it but concussion it's hard to tell what those kind of things should know -- there's often a very. Obvious visible. Repercussion from when you know and any any sort of scarring or anything so it's it's just a matter of you know gauging the the way to guy responds questioning but he seemed okay. I wouldn't be surprised if he had you know a concussion of some sort how severe -- was not but. Well -- expect other practice he was out there and I cannot imagine running around thinking yeah they wouldn't take any HA it's that they they have to be very cautious I would hope not editors I certainly hope not. So he was he was asked about the that was that was that was probably big story one day I was a big story -- or one B with -- story when it would be -- the Colvin signing because. Pierre Woods was not out of practice nor was rookie Vince -- So those are two outside linebackers who. Were brought in. You know lately after -- the -- Thomas went out with his arm injury who you know read was. Wasn't really playing as much at that outside spot but he was there -- sort of backup woods who would moved up to take some spot. And both of those guys were so. During his little talk talk with the media Colvin -- today that. When Thomas got hurt. Few weeks ago he sort of got the idea that maybe this was an opportunity for him to come back here. And sort of I guess broach the subject with the team and they -- weren't ready at the time but now that. I guess would cut that. Bizarre -- injuries what they're calling it and and read what's in practice I guess maybe there's maybe there's a little bit more to that. Injury situation that we kind of know about right now so that opened up the opportunity for Colvin come back here so so is that your understanding then that it was actually -- that initiated the interest between the parties well I think it is he made it it it it. The way he answered the court and it sounded like when Thomas got hurt he sort of either either he broached the subject or he thought he would get a call and he didn't. It really wasn't clear exactly my impression was that he sort of approach the team. And that hey you know you guys need need help. And they condom minus that none -- right now. But then after Sunday -- Pittsburgh they. They clearly do need the help and so they called him and he got the call on Monday -- gusto. I I can't say well with -- and certainly that that. You know that he initiated that first time around. Because he because. After that he kept reiterating that he wasn't sitting by the phone waiting for team column when he when he got cut and you've been so. So I I don't think he. I'm not quite sure if he actually actively went down pursuit the Patriots I think maybe he just thought in his mind oh. There's a linebacker on a team you play for maybe they'll -- it call. And and maybe they they didn't but then. You know took it took another couple weeks for something else that happened that to transpire but. Interest thing you're you know how Rosie is he he's sort of a talkative guy usually very upbeat he seemed very different. Today John he seemed very. A little subdued I'd say. Definitely lets face it you know he's he's been humbled a little bit a little little introspective as the word I guess I would I would use to describe it because. You know for the last few months. -- the you know ten months ago he was part of a team that was undefeated and going through what they thought was another but the fourth Super Bowl win. They ended up losing he was hurt he was on IR -- getting cut -- off season got a second chance with Houston. Only to get cut at the end of training camp and innovative -- think he had anything left. And it's not like they're competing for a play by either so. Yeah I think there is a little bit of humbling. To what's gone on in his life in 2008 and and and then he also started off the whole session with the media today by saying it was bittersweet for him to be back here because. You know he enjoys the -- being with the the his teammates and he knows the system and everything but there was some personal. Situations. With how he described it that he's dealing with right now and he wouldn't really elaborate on what those were about. Yeah he he seems like a guy who sort of maybe gotten things in perspective a little bit and things that maybe changed in the little he. He wasn't quite since he had the sense maybe Eric the -- just upset of the business and this is what set him on his way. From New England in the first place. Yet there could be on an element of that. I just got I kind of got the sense that having been you know -- when you when your player in. Any sport and you've been doing it all your life and then finally you get to a point where it looks like it's over. You starts and mentally you started look at things differently look at the world differently against just I mean I. Just basing -- on -- you know players I've I've heard talk about the subject when you play for as long as those guys have you know well over a decade or more. And then it's time to it seemed like when he kept cutting you in the that was kind of -- nobody other nobody at no other teams are calling him and it didn't seem like he had anything left. And so maybe in his mind mentally you know he was spending time -- namely he he has the UPS there was that is involved and was starting go to. To to take care though things more on a daily basis and you know maybe he just he started it maybe takes stock of where is in his life at this point and and and all the on this opportunity comes up in New England again and maybe he's like oh well you know. So you know maybe he's maybe in some sort of transitional phase right now that. His -- to deal with because when you when you've been an athlete for so many years and it's all you are known. And then suddenly think you're done and -- and isn't that chance I don't know it's. Again I'm just speculating but it it it certainly seemed like there was. There was more to what what Colvin had to say then then what he said will be interesting to see it we can. You know get some further respite that story on him as the as the weeks progress here -- just from a pure football since I mean what are your thoughts on him being back into the fold. While they they clearly need help and it's it's almost -- a perfect situation where you can bring in a guy who doesn't really have. That. Yea he'll have a steep learning curve and on the boards that -- it won't be long before he's up to speed on the and that that's a that's a best case scenario I think and you know if you were to bring just some guy off the street who never played in the system before at this stage in the season. It'd been really difficult for him at any meaningful impact but. You know Colvin was a veteran here for several years and he knew the system already and he was only on the team last year you know so. Not really a lot has changed its though Dean Pees that as a coordinator and it's bill. Basically the same teammates he play alongside had a Bayless and Vrabel and Bruschi -- you know Mayo is its mailing -- are -- the mix but. You know it it it won't be long I don't think before -- can and mentioned with those guys but. And that reason he was gonna begin with probably all of those all the those guys on the inside and well older colon colon on an outside guy and and and you know honestly John -- The outside guys you know Vrabel had a career year statistically last year and Thomas made some great plays and when -- down in -- to replace him on the outside but there really hasn't been a good. Pass rush. From those from that outside spot this year no there and and if Coleman can. Resurrect even you know half of what used to be able to do that they'll probably going to be an improvement that. And he you know he talked about how he loves you know rushing the -- his love that's that and that's always what he's been known for making plays rushing the -- I think could be a great. Element if they can if they confuse him quickly and he can make some plays. Rushing the passer because that's. It's really where they've been lacking. This year and it and it. It's helped to expose how bad the the flaws are in the secondary because if you can don't have pressure on the quarterback you have quarterbacks who configured. Your defense apart especially in the secondary. If you can disrupt their quarterback timing at all. That takes a big burden off the secondary. Having to defend passes all game and -- you know especially when you don't know who's going to be playing corner or safety every week though is guys getting hurt so right. -- say that he -- at all why it didn't work in Houston. He just said that. He. He went there and and try to you know bring the same sort of play making abilities that he had. Shown in Chicago and new England and that they felt he wasn't up to par. And he kind of just left that that and you know I again I I think when they let him go. I think he's just you know and the phone didn't ring off the hook from other teams right I think he maybe started to realize hey maybe you know media. Maybe this is it. You know and and really started mentally thinking about it that way I think if you get in the play this weekend or even next the next week and has a chance to make some plays maybe you'll see some of that fire and that and that energy reinvigorated. You know but until he goes out there and and does that you know maybe maybe needs. Maybe there's a lot of you he was a very confident guy was always very competent guy maybe there's a -- has a slight little element of self doubt there and maybe he needs to. Maybe he needs to prove something to himself that he can and he can doing and that your I'm curious I think like -- that I think is the best case scenario. You're in -- position. Where you need help and you can bring in a guy who doesn't really have much to learn and he's he's he's a proven playmaker whether he can still do it may be seen by. You know -- hit at least you know what you're getting with -- with Colvin right and that that's that's better than and not know."

Play from 1:13:58[1:13:58]" There was of course some other news made around the and filled them -- if anybody was asked in the locker room there was any reaction to at all number one. Of the six players. Including -- pretty much the retirement Vikings defensive line suspended for four games by the NFL. Earlier room yesterday forum for violating the league's anti doping policy he but he evidently disabled about that I don't think name was asked about that because. And it it was kind of it was kind of tough to get down from anyone else that because. And everybody -- that -- I don't know wasn't that it was that everyone in the media was so focused on making sure they got Coleman -- so that you know you always again in the locker and you only have this you know thirty -- on -- point five minutes so everybody went to his locker immediately to get a good spot. The try to get their sound and -- and then a guy like walker came out and then everybody's like oh we have to get Welker because we hadn't talked incensed and everybody rushed over to Welker got him and rushed back to Coleman. So there wasn't really a lot of and there weren't a lot of guys in the locker room to begin with but. There weren't many reporters asking questions of other players because Earl ward about getting making -- ago they got. You know today so understood. Yeah that that really wasn't anything talked about today. By the -- case anybody missed it it was. Defensive lineman Kevin and Pat Williams Minnesota. Long snapper Brian Pittman Houston. Charles Grant Will Smith of the of the Saints along with Deuce McAllister those six players. That will be losing four weeks with a pay checks. Com the other thing he mentioned obviously everybody had to you know talked Wes Welker was there any reaction from anybody else in the locker over the fact that. Mike per from the NFL they had the in FL officials basically said that was illegal hit it right Clark put on him."

Play from 1:15:46[1:15:46]" Well like I said it be the only people who really talked today were Colvin Welker. You know talk two groups of reporters there might have been one or two other players who talked one on one with actually Seymour did talk to I'd take that back Seymour. Addressed the media as well. I wasn't really in on that particular conversation no he unity when I did get in on it I was only here for a minute or two when he was talking about Colvin coming back so. I don't know it was a bill Welker. Walker that are not. But. No I I I don't think anybody did addresses and Welker only address that like I said thing that. He felt it was you know a good play. And it was he was fine with him at least at that that's what he's going with anyway whether he. You know feels like Dennis part of part you know we -- you don't know but right he he was saying the right things today."

Play from 1:16:36[1:16:36]" Well yeah yet feel like he's not going to. He's an Australian alum I'm surprised that he didn't get penalized or I'm surprised that you know or you know I'm not surprised he would he would find whatever I mean frankly I'm surprised. That there was not a fine there. I especially since we've seen you know. Similar types if not the exact play we've seen that will support types of shall we say questionable hits. Vince Wilfork Richard have been apartment Rodney Harrison's been part of the past. That have come through with monetary fines I don't expect that that would be a suspension. But the man left his feet. Well I I don't think leaving leaving your feet isn't really the problem I think. Because you know how many times have you seen -- goal line play were running back is diving over in the well that's true but but he left his foot and he attacked. Or you know in the woods who was ahead first thing and heated up making some helmet to helmet contact and I you know number one. To me I thought that sort of hurling yourself as a miss I'll. Was what that the NFL was trying to outlaw appearance -- it was it was clear to me to see that Welker had begun to pull up on the play and he's still got black."

Play from 1:17:39[1:17:39]" Right Eric Welker clearly was was. Letting up he was clearly slowing down and I think that I think that's the main issue here John United. Veering verses just plain leaving your feet. Hearing I think the intention being if you lead with your head. And Byrd and you know launch yourself like as a missile at another player and meet with your helmet. That's where you get into the situation of it being. Punishable. And I think I've only seen one or two replays of it and both of them have been full speed I have really gotten it can't see the play. Slowed down from a different angle but other people that I know who have seen it say. That it wasn't helmet to helmet that it was shoulder to shoulder pad. And that it it when you did in slow motion you can tell that it wasn't. A helmet to helmet hit I haven't seen it's I can't vouch for that but. People that I know seen it say that all have to take their word for and maybe that's what the league office maybe -- in my purse soft. Because you have obviously at the look at it the to make a ruling and that's what he if that's what he saw. You know and it was kind of colosio the ball was -- off in the other direction but. Yeah Welker clearly was letting up he saw that the ball is going off and he he was slowing down like you said I think it was a late hit no doubt. Whether it was a spear. I really can't say because like -- that I haven't seen enough of it. In slow motion for different -- to be absolutely sure all I could tell -- when I saw it live I felt like it was clearly a late hit. And the refs were where were well within or throw the flag I think that was the right call I am. A little surprised to like you that that -- it fine for because I think we've seen hits like that that have gotten fine before. But again maybe they looked at and enough times and and felt that there wasn't technically enough. Evidence is say that it was helmet to helmet and intentional some data points. He's getting getting away without -- fine. That's not final hole."

Play from 1:19:40[1:19:40]" Thing actually is somewhat incredible will be honest with him like there have been lesser transgressions. To me in my own estimation of maybe maybe okay I'll admit him again -- a little bit by the Patriots in. And being here and seeing it but it seems like some these transgressions that guys like Wilfork and Harrison specifically have been fine form. Were for lesser violations than what. We thought we all saw this past Sunday in NC in Pittsburgh I'm -- There's a different set of standards. It's applied differently every time he -- similar plays seems like to -- this is where. The NFL officials in the officiating crew in the league all of -- everybody this is where they failed miserably in terms of you know -- in this information on their officials and this is certainly a strong case in my mind. For it'll bringing in officials you know as full time employees. Because quite frankly you know this type thing you would hope could be avoided if you have everybody on the same page and everybody well schooled. In what is of Powell and what is not what the rule is in this instance and to me. Listen to perera in fact that he was given some explanations on an -- network about the play as well which is -- to -- even his reason. Was today."

Play from 1:20:54[1:20:54]" Yeah it it when he tent at that tends to be I noticed when when he gives an official ruling it tends to be very. Convoluted. Rent it out and and ends up raising a lot more questions sometimes senate and -- and answers but. The question I really have now John is. -- why is that. So many players instinct. To hit a guy even close to the head."

Play from 1:21:22[1:21:22]" Why why why is that their first instinct to go for that part of the body wanted to wrap up like it mid section. -- with your arms why is why does so many guys their first instinct when they Cia. A player come across the middle wide they feel like they have to take the guy's head off but it does make a tackle with the shoulders. I don't know the Q and a that's relaxing me is the more the more the more troublesome question you wire to wire so many guys intent on on. To me that's subliminally. But of consciously they're trying to hurt a guy."

Play from 1:21:54[1:21:54]" Of course they are it's a physical game it's a violent game we know that you played it it's it's it's just guys don't use that kind of thinking I think the whole. Idea behind this is you know they want guys to think. Before they they re act in in course there're some. Who like -- and I can see either side of the store there are some that that the you'll. That that should not be in football because football is an emotional sport and that you lose something if you. Have to stop and think before you react and that's sort of the beauty of football if you will. But when it comes to the health and safety in the NFL has maintained from -- that the -- about the safety of the players in this particular that one you know renegade -- on the -- out there and running so to speak write this flies in the face of that they're allowing this to go on. So be clear one way or the other is going to be the wild wild west out there -- guys -- going to hit outing. Or are you going to fine and or suspend guys for similar fits right it's one thing or the other it can't be."

Play from 1:22:50[1:22:50]" But I guess you know my my point would be if if I -- my head you know any sort of power to make change in this regard would be. If you ever had any sort of have whatever it is smoking year I don't know. Brushing your teeth with their left and whatever it is if you want to change that habit. You have the power to do that. You have to you have to focus you have to you know for awhile you have to change your your whole way of thinking. But if you keep repeating. The different way of doing it. Eventually the new way of doing it will become second nature and and that will become your new have. So. What I guess these players need to do if there instinct is the lead with their head and try to take another guy's head off. They're really be an effort to get them. Back to the fundamentals of tackling. And having it be wrap up hip with your shoulder lead. -- towards the midsection and wrap up with two hands when you're gonna hit and I think their needs to be a concerted effort to try to get guys to think that way again. Because I think for too many years we've seen. Players not tackle I've see it on this team a -- their players -- try to make tackles without wrapping up with their with their 22 arms and they just want to throw their body in there and and hope that the -- will triple -- the NFL the guys -- At least as bigger bigger than you throwing your body at their feet isn't going to tackle them in a lot of cases. And you've seen a lot of with tackles that way and some guys are just trying to make that big hit where where their their can cussing guys all the time. They need to go back to their needs to be some sort of whether it's in the offseason you know maybe during the season there's not a time to -- hazard toward -- game plans or whatever but. They're not passing camps there enough. OTAs. Where they need to get back to teaching these guys who are professionals the fundamentals of tackling. I think tackling has become a lost art in this in this -- innate in the NFL."

Play from 1:24:44[1:24:44]" You know I couldn't agree more. I just don't I think that because there's mixed signals being sent here. To be honest will be -- mixed signals being sent in -- when it comes to enforcement and in Howell. You know officials you know what is a fellow orders and a -- I don't know that anybody ever teach the exact right way. I just I don't even -- of the cable -- coaches -- cable with teaching that way because they're not sure what is that correct and what is you know a formidable offense."

Play from 1:25:11[1:25:11]" It's well I'll tell you what then did they know what's not definable effects. So that. Teach what you know is the right way to tackle the right way to tackle is keep your head up. Lead with your shoulder and wrap up with to a two -- two -- That you know his legal. Right yeah that's not going to get -- could see -- that eats that and only that. And if that's all that you're learning and seeing in practice day after day after day eventually that's going to become habit for you and become -- And if they do that that's not going to get your fine. Never going to get your fine you keep your head up if you tackle at the mid section that's not that's not that's fine you can hit a quarterback in the -- action. That's that's fine you can't him below the knees and he can hit him above the the shoulders. The mid section at that that's fine and any player. If they if they just -- that and get that through these guys' heads I think you let's of these incidents."

Play from 1:26:05[1:26:05]" Yeah you're probably right. -- let's let's squeeze -- one more time on here that we've got some emails from some folks that have been good enough to respond at. Two questions today about Rosevelt Colvin and what they're not they're somewhat complacent about this Sunday's game against Seattle. And then as I understand it are -- conference call today is not with Matt Hasselbeck it's actually with Deion Branch. Play from 1:30:49[1:30:49]" That's. At it he's going to give up the ball music he he really I like out of resources. This is very appropriate for today I thought yeah -- sending it out the Rosey Colvin. Well that. Sitting about their body in in you know in general mean the fact is the Patriots have there. But back against the wall yours that you went to Seattle for the Sunday's Iowa you know -- Cynthia Solis up Rosey Colvin and we'll find out obviously in due time whether or not him. You know it's it's a good move or you are you surprised it might not have been someone else and by that I mean I did see where Cincinnati. Signed victor hobson of today I didn't just that it really -- I'm not."

Play from 1:31:28[1:31:28]" I was surprised at that because well honestly. Hobson came in here in the summer with big expectations. And it didn't seem like he picked up the defense. As well as everyone thought he was going to especially having played in a version of it in New York with with Mangini. With cold then he would -- few years prior to that and he. He did perform he did pick up the the fans pretty well so. You you had a if you had a choice between two guys I think it was it was clear that -- that was the better option go away now. -- did play on the outside more they try to make him an inside Becker when he came here maybe the outs I was his more natural position but. You know he was never really known as a ferocious pass rush specialist -- Colvin was and that's exactly what the Patriots were lacking. So far this season as we talked about earlier in the show right and so I don't think surprise at all I mean. You know again no other teams were knocking down options or either for the past few months so. He came in negated an effort and you know some guys just don't fit in with certain teams and I just think that that might have been the case and and and Coleman. Was just a logical -- the comeback. You know."

Play from 1:32:44[1:32:44]" I don't disagree at all I was just thinking well. You know obviously they didn't think enough of Rosie Colvin so they sent him packing last year they brought in victor hobson this year that he might be a better option obviously it did not. Turn out that way so when -- choice between one other. Penal -- of deciding on called the -- cobra thing might have been. Financial as well there might have been an element of that."

Play from 1:33:07[1:33:07]" Where they weren't sure he was how it was going to respond of that injury because. Not -- and apparently he didn't you know he said he's fine but maybe he didn't respond as well as Houston thought it was going to respond either because. He didn't make it over there and maybe their concerns the Patriots concerns were legitimate. As far as what they thought Colvin had left but at this point in the season when your. You know and death grip. Neither of of depth that a position. He's he's. Clearly an upgrade over any rookie or some other free agent who -- you might have been able -- at this point whether you know regardless of the effect it has played it. Seriously and and to a three months."

Play from 1:33:47[1:33:47]" Let's see Keith in derby England since this notices. Thanks for ratio between playbook and PFW in progress we foreign fans are well served. I've been following the Patriots since 1985 and will be a pats fan come what -- but I don't think that they're going to get into the playoffs this year. Last year the office was so good that the flaws that he pitched well and truly -- This year those flaws are exposed because the offense is less effective. Can't rack up the score quickly enough so that the opponents have to go to the air early in the game given the -- it's a much easier ride. The people who have had to step into the various holes as starters have suffered injuries in the coaches who managed to keep the team playing as well as they have. Must be given a huge amount of credit but this year. We've had a bad luck to compare with last year's and it's finally telling aces. PS I told my wife from wasilla grandchildren if need be to get tickets for next year's game Wimbley if you think central packed up -- The fact that they don't radio it listen you know that can't be selling your kids are not mean. As I don't have any but you know I'm sure that I've heard from other parents and tempting sometimes the media -- well. You infinitely which."

Play from 1:34:57[1:34:57]" I. Depends on the know the no not really. That's going to be that's going to that's of the none of you talked about it don't show or not but that that's that's pretty interesting move though I think the NFL -- knowing -- to go on that trip here. Well -- honestly. I'm a little surprised I thought assured that maybe that would come. As of you know one of those things that. You know maybe unifil would have asked Bob you know crafted to as a favor because you know maybe of -- business ties or whatever because the Patriots are closer because of the -- that England is in our name I just thought that. To me that made sense but. You know maybe the Patriots said Tillman here's what like I kind of surmised yesterday Erica sit in the papers it okay yeah we'll go as well as we don't lose the home game revenue."

Play from 1:35:41[1:35:41]" Well and they certainly are going to do lose that because that was a minority scheduled -- game against Tampa so. A that was probably one of the things they they had to agree to and and it also tells me that. And again this is just speculation in my part but it. New England was supposed to play in China last summer. For the one year countdown to the the Beijing Games. And it didn't happen and then they thought well it'll get postponed till 2009. Obviously they're not going to play in China in 2009 and are going to play two. International games with the same team in one season. And I don't even think that it it just looks to -- like that's not going to happen at all so I think to make up for that. Has knowing it was going to go to China the second time around. On the -- time so I think that that leads me to believe that the China game isn't going to happen at all for any team. And I think New England is getting the you know via the you know Mulligan an NFL doing thirtieth it toward the Patriots now I I I just. I think it's too difficult right now -- the break incidents that Chinese market. The waiting NFL hope they do again at. I'm just speculating on it to from you know what I what it's like that when it yeah we really pivotal -- but. I don't know -- my feeling was that it was it was a difficult proposition to begin with trying to break in the China. A few years ago and I just think it's just not. Not feasible right now I think it's a lot easier to do that the one and paying her if they want to -- another European city that might be a possibility at some point but. I don't know they just seem to be too many hoops that you have to jump through it to have anything take place and I mean he you know he thought during the -- this past summer a lot of reporters. Weren't getting that type of axis they thought they were going to get an hour you know restrictions on things they could do were the Award ever in. You know you really need to go throw that just try to get a new fan base to try to like again I mean. Now I don't know it's worth it."

Play from 1:37:51[1:37:51]" Now it probably isn't. You know my guess would be that at some point. China has to be revisited simply because you're talking about you know. Billion and half Chinese who actually might give a damn about the NFL and I think the unifil realize that you know. That's an unbelievable. Potential market. You know American football in their starting to play. More and more better caliber. American style football. In in that region of the world is I think it probably comes from Japan and in in Korea mostly but nevertheless to start a trickle that direction. And them. You know plus you know everybody loves -- Everybody loves to -- the crazy Americans run rounds and entertainment value and well -- you know in and frankly you know. I know it's marketed to to a small extent over there anyway bring in the games over the alive and you could catch -- I think someone on the satellite so I think bringing the games over the alive. You know you're you're talking about a potential frenzy for the NFL in terms of you know -- the pocketbooks and if things you know continue to stay -- here. Economy wise we don't for the next year or two which people are still forecasting that it that it will -- To me this is a viable alternative so. That says there if that this has been put on the back table to me that there's something about. The actual trip and in the freedoms. And the rules that might have to be followed in the restrictions that would be put on. Though the league and with the teams involved and that still haven't come up quite to the unifil snuff to make this trip happen. Now that -- they're not going to they're not going to say note of the money trust me right right. It just something else to want so. -- up limping a little little -- Topic here for a second yeah have you heard about the whole USC UCLA. Jersey controversy right yeah I understand it Pete Carroll. For those that might not be aware Pete Carroll once. -- to go back to old tradition. When USC -- used to play in both teams wearing their colors from. And so USC being the the road team at the Rose double. Ironically that's where usually home games played. They were going to wear their red -- no other cardinal whatever color is red jerseys will usually -- their home baby blues. And that's against NCAA rules NCAA rule specifically state the visiting teams must wear white. I mean. How ridiculous is this it's stupid it is one post read which is why. Because Pete Carroll and that's the story that's been in the media this week careless said. You know lol you know we still want to wear red usually -- what we're going to -- and I put that -- quotation marks in a minute timeout. I don't know well you know at the start of the game QB will list went about it if you do extra second and we're going to find you another timeout to batting at UCLA who by the way has been on this from the get go. This is some that was originally discussed by a coach Carroll and Karl -- was of course the former coach -- neuheisel -- current coach. This has been in discussions between the two schools to go back to the old tradition that when both teams used to do this before the instantly got in the way I'm."

Play from 1:40:59[1:40:59]" Who -- the more these. Kill joys that a running college football I don't know I -- it just it it so aggravating between between there between this and there there insistence on not having a playoff system. And he -- in -- it in infuriating."

Play from 1:41:17[1:41:17]" Well it's it's it's stupid and this is where the NCAA has to have somebody in charge of oversight say you don't want to get have been to rule here but. It would they're also doing and I can see believe it -- not a Kimmel live in St. Louis. I can see the instantly story -- because that's it well if we've been this rule for them and without some sort of repercussions. There you know who's to say that in home. A team whose. Dark jerseys. Well for some reason or another. Closely matched the home team and both teams -- the same color jerseys and it leads to confusion and it takes a perceived advantage away from home to. You know that's out there I know what's out there. But I need a hole I just a dozen guys who worked at the jewel in the past I know that's probably think."

Play from 1:42:00[1:42:00]" but I mean you really think a coach who was like I'm going to let the and a Texas a and M and Oklahoma let's say they have very similar colored uniforms. Right well and M is. Dork yeah don't but it soon but it's pretty close Oklahoma's bright red I would say Texas Tech and Oklahoma would be more me Texas Tech is red Oklahoma red. Very similar risks okay or Alabama in Oklahoma first yeah out of Alabama all right right there's a good -- Alabama and Oklahoma are right. Yeah do you really think either coach is going to risk. Having his players know -- identify which players are -- up. Of course not no it's it's cool USC and UCLA clearly have opposing colors. And it is obvious to anyone who's not color blind and those are two different color your team. Honestly know that there's going to want to -- any and we should be able to wear whatever the heck color they want to win here. You know the home team has the first right to refuse and he wants to wear their dark jerseys the home team or dirty but you know how we handle on the NFL. Home team has the option. Except there was there was 11. One exception your arm of the Patriots Thanksgiving game in 2002 and went to Detroit you know they war there 1985. Throwback uniforms in red yes. And the Lions what their throwback uniforms and blue yeah so you had two teams wearing dark uniforms right you'd clearly opposite -- well I and it worked out fine repeatedly needs to follow the -- remains actually ME it's it's obviously not what these two teams have nearly identical uniforms that with a case -- a -- in -- point but they're clearly different. Well -- get into it and mean. I don't know how they're doing it for tradition the they're going to do a tradition which speaks to the the Spirit of the game exactly self exactly why we should be doing things and that should pay more attention. -- tradition because tradition -- the sport as great as it is that I discovery is of that as when when Johnny unitas died and Peyton Manning is before the Colts were blacks -- as a team. When they were wearing white shoes and Payton wanted to honored. Colts great on United by wearing black shoes like United to do. That that following Sunday in the and it leads the league wouldn't let him do write an in com -- There -- some rules that you you have there are exceptions to every rule. And this that's usually USC thing is I think one of those things -- exception that's been made but yet it's pretty stupid -- that -- because there's just so ridiculous it is it is it's it's just chose you know it's just shows one of the ridiculous you know things that goes on sports nowadays but. Just so you know UCLA apparently is going to call timeout. It's soon as the as soon as they get right ball right -- neuheisel said he was going to forfeited timeout you can afford and fell -- it time -- would evens up the score outside good for him the I think that's the right move. If you know if the and heavily want to play like that fine. Plus what will it loses at 33 point underdog and Mike and Mike and I like cal said it's the first half how many talents and we're gonna use in the first that anyway -- you know. No it's true it's true especially when your third report -- yeah you know so it's not really hurt -- Canada while they're ahead of theirs and write down yeah I know you gotta go writes I appreciate your your willingness to hang out with a problem football today no problem will be back tomorrow -- check it -- got Eric all of you know from Patriots football weekly. Let's wrap up today show by letting your listeners of the conference call. All the Patriots media members had with the Deion Branch the former Patriot wide receiver. On now the Seattle Seahawks this week's opponent for the Patriots and find out how Deion is activating now that he's healthy you're on the field. For the Seahawks in the will be backs -- time St. Pat's channel with the Russell Baxter -- the -- Eric in the game tomorrow right here in said the play."

Play from 1:45:43[1:45:43]" Yeah I'm going to be a little strange creative play against the Patriots. Are -- Yeah -- Man this without a little playbook is loaded. And and hit inside and really illustrated elevated also you know and all of that there was going to get back. Playbook first or just wait -- quote -- said a lot of that would but it you know. Arnold Lester it was they're excited to get that played as well -- that."

Play from 1:46:19[1:46:19]" Going to be strange to not seeing number twelve running that offence."

Play from 1:46:24[1:46:24]" Do that is as probably most -- that did you pick you don't. This person a bit there we go it goes undefeated that we -- you. Dance you know -- in that regard. Did -- surprise that those got a steal more forward indoors BitTorrent whitbeck gasoline today."

Play from 1:46:45[1:46:45]" I know the the ending of your career here probably wasn't. I deal that and reflect back on your overall experience here. In the smartest. Would you think if you time with the Patriots do you think an individual are the highlights --"

Play from 1:47:03[1:47:03]" And I never think about it. You know. Yeah. What the next it. -- post what is in this business that way. You know it. Businesslike. You know respect each other respect -- got to pick I respect everything you did perceive respect as well. What I did I think. Each party had to do what was best for. Except do what was best organizations that do what was best mark evidence. End it is no love lost it was just visit smoke. And you know it is understanding. A lot of days a lot of up and down it is and it isn't."

Play from 1:47:49[1:47:49]" UCL career injury -- hasn't gone. Probably the way you wanted to to and my experience been like that there."

Play from 1:47:57[1:47:57]" I've been integrated it. You know this is so whatever it it been different for me you know the first -- how good it feels good formula itself but they have good injury yeah. I came here. My question it was a good even those other. I was told that it -- of course that a trade situation. You know Lester has suffered. Brady injured you know kind of weird -- was weird injuries and this play go ahead strained -- fashion. And that's always done -- well. You know they didn't. Coming into this season had a another fluke injury would -- so there's been illustrated that it went through it. Stay positive. It is support help my team -- for me. This ever happened so. -- that's -- credit. You know I think definitive -- they aren't turning up -- it would. And you know where that is on the field you know players here that that that's that's going to happen --"

Play from 1:49:07[1:49:07]" You that you are here for some signs of Patriots history it's right for you this -- that. They are 75 and and struggling through to make that despite all the injuries -- somewhat surprising to see more things if things here."

Play from 1:49:23[1:49:23]" yeah so those that work real hard and I know. -- taken this step toward everything you possibly can't. Put those -- in the best position to make plays on the football field you know let's sit outside a couple of injuries is. But a couple of bad days gone over there as well a lot of physical battle. You know -- We've been it would it would -- most they -- it became an entirely but it at this -- You know."

Play from 1:49:50[1:49:50]" And even detective Tom and all the pennant. Seattle -- his status is how he's doing with dad says surgery of his."

Play from 1:49:58[1:49:58]" Yes. I felt so. We can't -- hole that you know easily went down kind of felt bad because I was. On -- up -- my ACL recovery. And know what he's what he's by the go through but it has been. It is stroke. You don't you don't go away you know it's injured it you have to be. You have to be mentally strong. So you know over achieve this -- you know a lot of guys come back from a put a lot of -- and evidently. Back from Israel and combat. It and you know don't let it be okay but I talked to -- excellent last week Jeff Beck for. Not only so much out of it -- today."

Play from 1:50:43[1:50:43]" Who -- some of the other guys --"

Play from 1:50:46[1:50:46]" Ty Warren says well for. Teacher already. -- You know can't follow. There have been disorder that's the big the -- saying. They'll be no love loss -- marked in the guys that was on the day. You know we shed a lot of it was together. A lot of stuff being go to where we've got to -- boat but we don't understand -- well. You know. But for the most tormented didn't do -- guys that I speak to it."

Play from 1:51:21[1:51:21]" It is not something new to everybody on the team you know we hostages -- each other. See those -- negated. We sort of just over each other you know let it whatever."

Play from 1:51:34[1:51:34]" And all of Gordon and are concerned about what you like you -- he can out coach Belichick -- I'm about the front office posts and you might see him. Before thinking you know given the way your tenure ended here means using FIP awkward."

Play from 1:51:48[1:51:48]" I don't Baby -- I don't they've got -- you know let -- that we both sides understand what had been. Who knows what got a lot of we -- you know knows. You know I think you've got to go -- coach -- over to pick up aghast you know shape as well. You know would talk about cultivated there. You know move --"

Play from 1:52:13[1:52:13]" Yeah plans on on Saturday. You all got."

Play from 1:52:16[1:52:16]" But what they appear before direct. Yeah definitely. It was Thursday Friday. -- one of those days -- see those guys. -- you know breaks not vocal coach you know. It will hopefully. Coach what -- ought to stay at citadel I don't think you have -- solid. What do that -- You know."

Play from 1:52:46[1:52:46]" When it's there it's. If they're a lot of stuff that was definitely and."

Play from 1:52:51[1:52:51]" The editorialists. But they don't get that result. He's not finished with go to -- Did everything you do -- to -- Actually a couple of days but it not the same practice -- certain -- but he is not saying you know office party yesterday visibility oh. Something totally different when I was there."

Play from 1:53:16[1:53:16]" when you talk to him. Maybe there -- frustration with the ways he's the season as whoever it like accurate kicker."

Play from 1:53:31[1:53:31]" And the incredible book. You know which it you know to -- another conversation start up like. You know -- most -- That's a loss -- dissident on both sides would posted Wednesday or you don't want to dictating you know -- it -- you know your head at Boston or whatever but it.
