Play from 0:10[0:10]" Usually podcast. Yeah -- For information on this or any other patriots podcast visit patriots dot com yeah."

Play from 0:25[0:25]" Now the leaders of patriots football weekly and -- beret and ski. Welcome back to another patriots dot com roster report podcast here at Gillette stadium. It's Friday and that means we're going to break down some of the moves the patriots went through this week and this is a week -- we actually have moved to talk about Paul it to you went back the talk forever you can always talk forever the patriots re signed defensive lineman Rashad Moore. Who was of course around during training -- of the line after Mike Wright went down to injury and they also released a pair of players in the secondary couple guys who've actually played. Significant action at times over the year Rashad baker. And -- Eddie Jackson no longer with -- with the two guys going out and just more coming in. Leaves it open roster spot which sort of inching at this time of the year when usually you're scrambling your you know help is an issue they're just in the 52 players on the active roster so. How do you think that plays out would be open roster spot what's the issue there and does more players he just truly a -- I think probably more likely at least initially more."

Play from 1:32[1:32]" Probably just of body but I think potentially he could get into you know sort of rotation I think that he might be a better candidate. Tibia backup nose and we keep -- and I think that might be the impetus -- that that move was made but your your second question. Which I think is a little bit more interest in you know what they're doing with that roster spot out I got to thinking Andy. They're worried about tight and and and the health there and they going to wait the week -- would happens -- watch what happens with Kyle Brady. If those two guys are ready to go and maybe they can make it through him every time someone out but if they can't maybe they need to sign you know another tight and maybe Marcellus rivers who's been. You know here hearing Don several times in the course of the year to go with mister Spock there. Who'll I didn't realize played with Logan Mankins by the way college I didn't make that connection until I read stuff but -- pro bowl not yet you know but. I've adept at tight -- is an --"

Play from 2:27[2:27]" and buck obviously went from. You know not you know being out on the street to playing significant now clearly maps -- according to -- block out a lot of back for a guy who just came off the street on Tuesday no question and bill said he was helped out by the familiarity he had the offense from Fresno and I guess there -- a lot. Lot of carry over from what pat -- does out there I'm sure particularly. In the blocking schemes and that's you know Spock obviously do a lot of blocking. Pat hill has the history with Belichick in Cleveland kind of setting up his offensive line development programs I'm sure -- carry over there in terms of blocking schemes terminology and things -- help them out. But bill also said you know there's -- Tom Brady was just sort of telling -- what to do in the huddle and on the field you know at some of that game that's -- think about because you take -- like -- this high tech NFL world where everything is down to the exact minute in each second everything. And you kind of just tell a guy what to do out on the field yeah and that as."

Play from 3:20[3:20]" Funny did you think about a high school Brett you know like when it went back that comes in he's not always sure what he's doing -- Used it and we aren't at times you know Laurence Maroney was on the same page with some of the calls in the -- bulls I think that that Tom was making during the game. There was a couple of times that he said he didn't hear that Jack and didn't do the right thing and there was another time. That bill said that when he turned around he took the ball away from Maroney intentionally because he thought that the play it would work -- And bill actually so that was the right decision but yeah -- of its funny situation when you have NFL players on the field and not necessarily -- with the assignments and then to the final on more obviously he's 63325 so very much of Vince Wilfork I I don't care and training camp and I remember talking do you one of the pre season games about him. I don't pretend to know all the technique and in all of the job description stuff but. Just from watching al -- to NC for a nose tackle where you went out. You already are you holding the point of attack do you occupying blockers already getting pushed back an easy getting pushed back obviously that's not a good thing he didn't get pushed back very often. Now he also didn't play against front line players very -- in in the summer but I thought that he had the eyes and looked like he had and technique. That let itself to to play type no tackle and I also think like I said earlier league team at this guy but at a really Bronx bomber. But I don't I'm not sure that he hit. You -- Mike -- what kind of be a -- a Mike Wright -- a perfect made an idea that but he had a little bit more experience playing and he got away with it. I don't think in early may want to point lead even Mitt in that role or something."

Play from 5:01[5:01]" And I think you could see more in the coming weeks. You know the back end of a blow I've talked a little bit about Wilfork and you know taking all these double teams in the things he goes through you know if you -- he's a -- I'd like to see arrested everybody points towards Brady and mosque in some of the -- guys. I think a guy like Vince Wilfork who takes a pounding like -- guy who if you give a quarter off but a quarter where does that to a garden center hitting him every single play. And if you're up forty points is Rashad Moore really going to be the difference between you winning and losing no way they're not going to run the ball right over the nose. You know hundred yards every single place or he's a guy may we will see. At that backup nose tackle spot the next week I wouldn't think that that would be completely out of the in another roster we should talk about. The 2008 pro bowl roster will include eight. Patriots selected for the squad tying the most ever in franchise history 1985 -- that. Whole class would John Hannah and few others back and Andre tippett -- and Brian Holloway. Brian -- good things not his name in there I would never put that out of lineup eight guys are Tom Brady. Not a shock very much a -- would say Dan co open may be a little bit of surprise there he gets his first berth. Matt light going two years and thorough Logan Mankins it's his first earth there in Hawaii Randy Moss again sort of -- obviously a Sante Samuel another guy who's probably would. Is now ops Champ Bailey in the pro bowl the -- should because he's up there with -- in terms of the best corners in football. Mike were able -- nice job on the outside -- getting a little recognition and the guy we just talk about Vince Wilfork earning his first trip to all right so you know those are the eight guys that are going. The talk around here with some of the guys maybe who work Wes Welker was a guy -- was atop that list some fans threw out there Ty Warren's name what were your thoughts on the on the pro ball getting the eight guys."

Play from 6:44[6:44]" I think eight is is solid I think that's an indication of how. Could -- team and and you know will -- talked about that when you when you have the success the patriots have had you play a lot of prime time games people around the league get you it's rewarding he called it very rewarding I don't think there was a guy that was any happier two -- they were all happy -- for a lot of grads about to equal -- in particular and he went to a lot Nazis with -- wife trying to get wait starting to get his -- in check a little bit. I think it was very very satisfying for him. Welker I think had a pro bowl season I think he had a good enough year to go to the pro bowl just have a hard time making my case for Campbell over any of the four wide receiver ever win. In his price six or seven in the AFC that you could make an argument your you know there's always guys in a Chad Johnson didn't go either he's got a generally -- Barbara Harris -- hurt all year he's got Orosco it was a opening. And I should it was a disappointment for Welker admitted he was reported. -- like that and I think he had a global caliber year. But again I don't really think that -- any of the four that went shouldn't have and I'm not really sure. Well now I think that they'll end up being two with three other patriots. That go to the pro ball because there's always going to be. Alternate in injury fill ins and whatnot and when they're going to look to the two best teams first and that's generally what happens they're going to -- a double figure if you ask me."

Play from 8:06[8:06]" The guy you mention you know being fourteen and known bill talked about that yesterday that it helped get you some guys and -- as a clear spot for that is the offensive line when you end up with three offensive -- first time ever HB I just think that is -- perfect example to position where. You know even opposing corners when their voting. They don't know with the best offensive lineman early in the National Football League are they say. -- patriots got a good offense Brady's been thrown the ball tiny doesn't get sacked much. I hear Mankins being talked about a going to vote for him right -- been you know people rave about so I think that's one of those positions is the offensive line where. Even football players don't know the best offensive -- football -- little swelled era votes yet they have you know quickly and at the wrap up but statistically. They on the ball more than every team in the -- after Cincinnati. And -- in the seventeenth and second in the league act out -- Oh that's pretty gets to Hawaii credit for those three guys before we go just quickly go over the injury report as we always do each and every week here in the podcast guys who did not practice as of Thursday. Kyle Brady put the mention of the concerned what's going on tight end Rodney Harrison and it -- Thomas team decision. Which we've come to sort of learn means there -- a little nicked up but they're older and they're probably going to play. That's basically -- played out every part and -- yea it with a foot injury also did not practice couple guys were limited Stephen Neal the shoulder which has been an ongoing issue. -- a -- in the ankle which cost him last week's game but he did have limited participation. And as always full participation Tom Brady right shoulder. For the dolphins' Channing Crowder Jason Taylor Keith Traylor did not participate obviously we took Jason Taylor was on crutches earlier in the week. Com you can take him out of the dolphins mix that really makes them not very dangerous football team limited participation Jessie Chatman the running back Kaman against patriots had some good yards Joey porter the loud mouth linebacker who's you know just not having great year down there -- met -- Defensive end with a groin injury who couple years ago was had a great game as everybody you know Jason Taylor had a big day but pretty much everybody on the defensive line was getting into the backfield. He is one of those guys and that tackle LJ Shelton -- an ankle injury participated fully. That's the injury that as patriots doing relatively well still injury wise and made the moves in Eddie Jackson Rashad baker gone from the secondary. Rashad Moore back on the defensive line one open roster spot see how that plays out generally bill like -- bill that by game day even if it's a guy from the practice squad getting a pat on the back in thanks for working out here's a game -- though. Keep an eye on that heading into the game this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins here at Gillette stadium and we will be back next Friday. When another roster report podcast. And we'll tell you what we got for christmas."

Bill Belichick Press Conference - 12/7/2007

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his press conference at Gillette Stadium on December 7, 2007. Q: Can you talk about what the addition of Wes Welker has meant to your team this season? BB: Wes has done a real good job for us. He's come in and worked really hard. [He] was one of our off-season award winners. [He] primarily plays in the slot, although I think there are other things that he can do, but just the way that our team is, the way it fits together with our other receivers and our offense and so forth. He's in there a lot. We had a lot of trouble with him in Miami, defending him, and we've tried to put him in some of those situations that we had trouble with in our offense. That's sort of some of the things we've done in the past anyway, so it's not like we redesigned the offense or anything. [We've] put him in the spot where we feel he can be productive and compliments our other players. He's done a good job. Q: Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was just talking about your goal line package with Mike Vrabel and Junior Seau coming in. What are the advantages to that as opposed to Laurence Maroney behind Heath Evans? BB: I think there's a lot of different players that could do different things for us. It's just a question of really how you want to utilize your personnel and how to distribute everything, how you want to put it together. I think that's something that we talk about on a regular basis and it's an overall team thing - It doesn't just come down to one guy, “Could one guy do this or one guy do that?” Certainly, but it's just a question of how you want to put the entire team - put everything together and…There's a lot of things that go into the decision, is what I'm trying to say. [There's a] lot of things that go into the decision and we do what we think is best for our football team. Q: Is short-yardage something that Maroney needs to work on? BB: I didn't say that. Q: Is it? ...
