Play from 0:10[0:10]" Patriots dot -- For information on this or any other patriots podcast is -- patriots dot com. -- south meant the other thing now the leaders of patriots football weekly and -- and --"

Play from 0:31[0:31]" into what -- hasn't official prize cast of the New England Patriots. It might seventh here at Gillette Stadium the weather is finally getting one -- Indy hi Tom Sally and expelled you know today to deal latest moves on the roster it's been going on."

Play from 0:44[0:44]" Florian as the weather has been heating up the patriots have finally broken into this free agent party although. The bulk of the action in the biggest moves re signing their home players. March 3 will go through all the different maneuvering here in the we'll discuss some of them. A march 3 they re signed Randy Moss which was obviously the big fish and it's -- to -- for them. The same day they signed free agent wide receiver and special team -- Sammy can formally of the bills. A day later they added quarterback Jason Webster who brings a little veteran depth in the secondary. One day after that Jabar Gaffney remember that the grass is very green out there and Gillette Stadium and re signed with the team on one year deal. Then the patriots a day later at another veteran quarterback and Lewis Sanders as well as a veteran safety tank Williams so Tom the Alley -- LB you know."

Play from 1:34[1:34]" Joining me here obviously the biggest move Randy Moss sometimes I think he gets looked over because you just bring back the guy that everybody who was coming back but. There and curious -- time there when maybe the eagles were in the game and this would have been a a tough off season at Samuel and moss both we'll definitely yeah apparently the eagles -- Well -- than people originally thought to giving walls which would have been devastated as you said. But now when you bring boss man when you bring Jabar Gaffney that he'll have Wes Welker Stallworth I think he's easily replaced by. Either Chad Jackson while they brilliance offensively yet they okay. And they're kinda doin' you know I think you computers -- the red rock's first base situation -- defensive back. But bring in quality guys hope we find two or three if one of David Ortiz -- they're not a great -- I think that's what do I don't really like Jason Webster never have. I think we'll have a tough time making the roster. Hank Williams a guy if he's healthy can add of depth the safety but I think quarter. And linebackers are going to continue to do this bringing guys in and -- bringing new guy in who worked for a visit. -- sort it is he visited had some quotes from his agent saying it went very well they actually expect to receive restricted free agent offer -- cost the fifth round compensation for the panthers but he's a guy they liked coming into the league -- versatility 34 front. I'm I I'm intrigued by him more so than any of these. Eight in tank Williams J -- there's -- intrigued because round AK and he's a special team right you know. -- or third quarter -- that's probably would be like you at one of these linebacker been in the league hasn't played a lot but I decided like come out of college. Maybe come into the system and provide. That depth in and that at least -- a chance he could be Mike Vrabel right."

Play from 3:24[3:24]" This is one of those weeks for you -- the patriots would hold those those press conference like other teams do when they sign a guy and they bring a mountain introduce you because. We have no idea -- these guys are basically who they even look like what they can do on the field -- they've got some it here in the league but. You're gonna need that you're gonna we're going to need more than and then. Cue cards or something to to figure out who these guys are come training camp because they're there's not much history with them and in this in this league."

Play from 3:51[3:51]" Handers I've never heard of I like them Maryland -- we've played at Maryland he was one of those draft guys generally what reminded round guys I haven't heard from him is that often happens with -- My draft projections but. A couple of years later we -- things he's done I mean they got a lot of my years in. Yes he definitely -- up and and that's what they're hoping they're hoping he's one of those guys that is. 35% better in their system that he has and it's probably one of those guys like -- when he came all. Bill probably problem -- little bit and so -- like me. Out Hitler from his mistakes. Like them to come out and he's pick them up for the right then eat you know maybe we can get it would you look at guys the pick and operator -- Hank -- I mean a -- Pete could play here and played. Big minutes for the patriots defense pretty much anybody can as long as they can play so well Hank Poteat as the poster child everyone always says when you talk about the second."

Play from 4:48[4:48]" I mean he won games that Hank Poteat right there so he's the poster child for signing a Louis LO could be made it one game -- to a different -- practice. They haven't done that often they haven't been that good they've been better in the secondary but. They they hits were a long time ago everybody points to only brought -- Antowain Smith and Bryan Cox and Roman -- these guys played for years while. Tyrol -- had one good year. All the parks and Chad -- a a lot of those were -- and they those with these low level signings and I just wonder. You know maybe they'll hit the top ten of the draft that you'll have you know first day he'll have a linebacker two corners -- two linebackers in a corner and maybe that'll add some talent here I just feel like. You lost your best player. And you try to just replaced with these big pieces if if Ellis Hobbs have laughed and they brought these guys and okay maybe one of them can be good enough to replace Ellis Hobbs but. You lost you two of the top three corners and you try to replace him with. No no disrespect these guys projects and and based on the contract that that angle gotten -- it's not -- of the real possibility that the patriots couldn't for that they wanted to make -- a hat well. Maybe not at that point but the money did not preclude them from resigning or so. I don't think there's a lot of work to be done that the fence and I'm not alone Fred -- who is obviously -- during through patriots -- is as much as anyone. Admit there's a lot of work to be done for that -- championship level defense obviously often -- Tom said bingo you get just about everybody back. You know fans might want to do right tackle you needed new Kyle Brady whatever but. The key members key parts that often are back defensively you know weaken the free agency here. There's a lot of work left to be done and."

Play from 6:29[6:29]" And the thing about Mark and into his talk about those rumors of him maybe on aliens and a lot of money. He could've gotten more money in in pro so he's so we as a it was agent. You know and if that's the case it interesting that now two years in a row he's taking a little bit -- could have gotten to play with -- team would -- play him that. Has another chance to approval form to even more so as to which I'd buy him wanting to win. I also by him want to have fun and I buy him when he runs down the field you want the ball to be with a three yards of where he's going to be and Tom Brady gives him. As much as you know who were record actually the best chance to do that I think it that much about just having fun when he goes down on the field -- is -- championship but lot of work left to be done. It will be here covered in the coming weeks that these roster reports always interesting when you bring in the like to Lewis Sanders to talk about. Tom -- back to break it down that you like to -- years earlier nobody years earlier hank Williams will be legally buy it for I would probably controlled -- just up the PFW offices that are taught me -- that's true but -- up to say hello upon them by name on -- take Williams out of work to do fees and make the roster over that guy who would have -- bowl MVP they -- at that."

Play from 7:43[7:43]" Very popular you know that directly about it used it -- after that tackle and kick off. But anyway that's going to put the rap on this roster report lot of moving here the first week of free agency the patriots I'm sure will be active in weeks to come will be here discuss. And right now with the baccalaureate."

Play from 7:59[7:59]" Thanks guys and it's indexing for Branyan roster what I'd pass on attendance for the death processing you every Wednesday. Thanks for listening and go pat."

Bill Belichick Press Conference - 12/7/2007

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick addresses the media during his press conference at Gillette Stadium on December 7, 2007. Q: Can you talk about what the addition of Wes Welker has meant to your team this season? BB: Wes has done a real good job for us. He's come in and worked really hard. [He] was one of our off-season award winners. [He] primarily plays in the slot, although I think there are other things that he can do, but just the way that our team is, the way it fits together with our other receivers and our offense and so forth. He's in there a lot. We had a lot of trouble with him in Miami, defending him, and we've tried to put him in some of those situations that we had trouble with in our offense. That's sort of some of the things we've done in the past anyway, so it's not like we redesigned the offense or anything. [We've] put him in the spot where we feel he can be productive and compliments our other players. He's done a good job. Q: Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was just talking about your goal line package with Mike Vrabel and Junior Seau coming in. What are the advantages to that as opposed to Laurence Maroney behind Heath Evans? BB: I think there's a lot of different players that could do different things for us. It's just a question of really how you want to utilize your personnel and how to distribute everything, how you want to put it together. I think that's something that we talk about on a regular basis and it's an overall team thing - It doesn't just come down to one guy, “Could one guy do this or one guy do that?” Certainly, but it's just a question of how you want to put the entire team - put everything together and…There's a lot of things that go into the decision, is what I'm trying to say. [There's a] lot of things that go into the decision and we do what we think is best for our football team. Q: Is short-yardage something that Maroney needs to work on? BB: I didn't say that. Q: Is it? ...
