Play from 0:02[0:02]" To me and -- the wrong business is upon it. Yeah for information on this or any other patriots podcast. The patriots got -- So -- of patriots football weekly and -- Bryant's team."

Play from 0:27[0:27]" Hi my friends and listening to them last draft prospect preview on April -- and last day real. Yes that you read his umbrella and now -- and I know Vaughn. If you always happen with the draft so -- what actually went on it."

Play from 0:43[0:43]" Adrian -- guys that I had a draft works mortal that it was a fun draft because one reason they took a linebacker actually took two of them. And for those of us that that have been calling it victory and I think I'm right. I think yes we have we PFW had a very good draft weekend I think a lot of the guys we talked about the team actually selected for change. They -- you know they looked -- Matthew later in here there that none of us ever heard of but. You know -- at the top actually run down all the picks real quick and -- or discuss them or linebacker -- took a number ten after trading down a few spot cornerback Terrence Wheatley they took in the second round number 62 overall. Linebacker Shawn Crable their first election on day -- the third round 78 picked quarterback Kevin O'Connell in the third round at number four overall over the heads gradual -- to than a minute. Defensive back Jonathan will -- the fourth round 129 overall. As I at wide receiver -- later in the fifth round 153 overall we traded up to get him. In their final election. Of the day came in round 6197 overall -- route from the famous -- football family out Nebraska and six of them and he is the latest. But I'll start at the top -- mail they traded down a few spots say the little money fortified million dollars in guaranteed. But they got their big fast smart athletic. In at linebacker the future. Paul Perillo analyze."

Play from 2:08[2:08]" I think the trade obviously meant a lot and one that we kind of talked about not earlier Pacific. Seven to ten trying to deal but we thought that Nolan and that it might be teams that were willing partners we didn't think that big tree to get down around 21 for a what we you know was going to -- on fault but that didn't really take too much by surprise and and the fact that mail was the target some people wondered maybe it was that a little bit too high I agree woody Andy's philosophy of unique middle linebacker Unita and athletic linebacker to the guy that you lights you know -- Maybe he was supposed to go fifteen or when you know all fourteen you know whatever I don't know I don't think it was -- reach at all and I keep -- they keep fought back to knock hyper told our -- Eric yes. Keith Rivers. Is scheduled to be a top ten pick up drive -- was scheduled to be somewhere around two when he there's no way to any difference difference closed that gap up and obviously Phil thought the same way because Keith Rivers went nine to Matty. And mail went ten to the patriot."

Play from 3:09[3:09]" Yen and mail was I was tracking up. The last few weeks -- I was expecting up in your mind or in the Indy heart. Arrow systems on the -- you know he might have been all over the place -- heart arrows and apparently met him on one too many with the arrows and India Africa is that the blacks than in 87 degree angle was that a direct -- 45 don't mock the estimate 45 degree okay don't -- the camps. But anyway yeah -- was I like them epic I mean that the mores. Learn about him the veteran like it through because it seems like he cut. Not just the not just the physical tools which. You obviously need to be a first round pick but he seems to be more of a student of the game he seemed to catch on very quickly to news that new. Schemes and now. He's going to have to do that here as predominately at Tennessee to Randy for three where he played off the line but. Bailey and indicated in his press conference that he's most likely going to be in one of the two off the ones -- here in the gallery for which is in the middle and they did have a couple of packages -- that that included the the 34 but. That's something he's going to have to learn and he loves film market talk -- as a position coach Tuesday Los sustain and -- the extra work that needed so he's. One of his greatest quote was I think he can come back here coach a position better than I could. So under that deal was under achieved."

Play from 4:33[4:33]" But that kind of -- I think dead and I think you can hear things like that characteristic like that for a lot of these guys the patriots drafted this year we heard a lot about that yet Wheatley is well. On currently has moved on further in the draft -- route is in panic I was always watching film. So it was I think it was interesting to see you know not only they went deep that they have targeted -- and on in and beat by you know character. Foot you know the whole football important cliche that that we -- time a lot of these guys have those him."

Play from 5:05[5:05]" I was gonna say bill sort of gave everybody the theme to the draft quite obviously deep and the younger and faster but I also through their smart because you're right all of these guys people talked about them built on about them rave about their film work there intelligence and talking on the football field early you know off of it but the two things -- they would mail before move on his first of all. I'm going to the theory is they never took him before the fifth round -- he's a guy that you values that the number ten overall pick enough from the guys get a pretty good and should have a very bright future and -- and number two talking about his bit in died. Come back on the rob Ryan told me at the Columbine the patriots linebackers coach asked about the trouble finding. Inside linebackers for the 34 high in the draft that in the lasting after. And he said well the problem is yet 99 but yet that a top by and it sounds like this guy -- that you know fill that bill -- that he has intelligent all that but it's tough will will knock you out can run in the total package so. I'm -- about -- is have been about you know in Jackson on the that turned a move onto the second round and this is my guy out of the University of Colorado Terrence Wheatley defensive back. Flat out comply. 43 tight before three evident the Columbine. On this accident on 429 at other times so a guy deftly as beat. -- smaller a true patriot tech quarterback in the -- by 980 pounds very productive and yet fourteen interceptions in his career Colorado some people believe he reached -- had him rated as they. Third fourth fifth round pick but you at the Dallas Cowboys were buried him. And everything I read at -- Dallas they -- in him as a second last third round pixel might not be quite the region ruins projecting -- but the biggest thing that jumps out of his bio and out of his history. This 2005 season medical hardship has had major wrist issues. Starting in the peppering of 2005. I believe yet four surgeries had to have a broad placed in his arm -- a foot long broad and it was titanium sort of used his -- essentially his wrist doesn't really Dan. Actually broke that -- in the 2006 season while playing played through the pain and it replaced. Now as steel rod because the unbreakable titanium broke. On but he played with a for a couple years now had ten interceptions in that time return kicks for them though while it appears to be an issue. He's shown on the college level that he can play through whatever limitations the talk about it all --"

Play from 7:44[7:44]" Why I I really liked the player. My only concern would be exactly what you talked about India and that you know the situation with the -- actually carries a handicapped cart yeah well I mean. I would worry about -- you know vote the long term durability of having -- kind of situation with the ring now. When you talk about this guy's a player on what you watch what we all watched it I think that -- we were. Pretty impressed with -- he had definite return abilities and he pointed out great speed good hands he's a playmaker he seems directing that -- pretty quickly I mean he was in the right place his tape was pretty impressive and you look at you know will win tonight and put us on a note that draft experts thought he would go. It had to be because of the medical. Brown because he was in the fifth or sixth round pick. Oh that's my only two earned him I think this guy can play in and you lit into home on -- conference call he sounded like if I'm a coach. On the way he talked about football on the way he talked about preparing an outlet out. I was like you were talking to a twenty to write whatever year old kid you -- no experience coach so. Another one of these high character guys the patriots into target this year."

Play from 8:51[8:51]" Yeah I actually years your guys concern about but the stability of the race but one thing I'd like to do is go back and look a little bit more in depth -- His statistics from when he broke the rod is about halfway through the season. And to see if his pro productivity fell off at all or he was able to play at the same level with that because that that might -- an indication whether or not that could be and one from here -- positive there is he kept that pretty quiet he broke it and just sort of play through it he's clearly a tough guy you know he's had. On get a foot injury last year came back from that so clearly are not afraid to play with -- brightly despite a medical red flag because of the red. He's also -- it's going to play through pain and fight through some things in him. Work out there -- spoke with -- position coach last night raved about him for fifteen or twenty minutes thinks he's pro ready won't have a problem picking up the system. Played in tied for them two years ago that was their left corner this past year on he thinks he'll come right inning could immediately be a nickel corner. On coach brown has experienced the NFL fifteen years coached the BBs. As recently as a couple years ago and said when he was in New Orleans this guy could come right and -- for them. On right away we noted that stinks but don't you know next say that could come rated start think he's a big play guy playmaker who will be in the mold of scientists and make plays for this team so. Only good -- from the field position what one must question for you -- do we know with the medical hardship was a result of all -- wrist injury -- buy it yet he had it wasn't open yet know yet bring surgery if it wouldn't recover yet to have a few more surgeries that was all that whole continuation of the wrist issue but I'll be intrigued at how he comes in not only plays on defense with the wrist and jamming receivers and all that but also returning kicks that we know. Here they teach you to catch the ball. Not as a cradle basket catch but with both ends up above your head with him work and analyze. To me that's entry you know I would use wrist will handle that but we'll get our first chance this weekend will be on the next pick and pro season issuers we go along Shawn Crable. Linebacker Michigan. Sort of a one year wonder but certainly look the part has the I X five to 43. Has yet let a schism has -- usually long arms like someone and our graphics department appeared stadium and -- talk about Shawn Crable well."

Play from 11:07[11:07]" Before we even get into -- we probably should point out that is we're really the Belichick trading Wheeling and dealing really started you know -- was they traded -- Diego they had -- early in the third round pick up from Oakland last year yet they trade it was San Diego picked up a second round pick in only nine very good -- and in swap spots with the fans -- charges went down to 78. And according to Bill Belichick. The -- they were going to take anyway with Shawn Crable there on the phone there ought actually on the follow them and then Scott informed him that. San Diego's and making a trade he hung up the phone with Crable. They got the deal worked I was and Diego and that we're fortunate enough to have table still available on whenever the whenever it was like but he picks later up at not wasn't that big of a drop there down 78. I like -- lot I think if he is one of those guys that made an impact on Michigan's defense he showed up. Made a lot of plays come off the edge I think he's one of those real pass rushing type it'd be agency he can do on the other things that he'll have to be able to do here in terms of dropping coverage maybe -- out a little bit more getting the edge in the run things like that. Because obviously in order to do outside linebacker and in knowing when you can -- to all of those things well."

Play from 12:21[12:21]" Let's be honest in theory if things pan out he probably doesn't have to contribute right away as male I think lately probably just send him after the quarter if you. You say -- back who by all reports it is coming to town have a physical. I'm could be back in the mix that gives you guys to rotate and I couple guys and youngster that allows you keep every evil and -- Thomas on the outside -- might be able to sort of mix in where he fit in rather be forced into them as a rookie so. I think he might be. You know a little bit a year down the road or -- down the road before he's truly and every down part of -- I think it is an intriguing pick also because of his size of equipment might have been Willie McGinest was the last time we had an outside linebacker 65. 250 almost it realist Aldrich water through well you know but it for the outside at."

Play from 13:07[13:07]" It's to. Well I mean it's kind of he's all of a luxury to have Holland fan I mean -- pretty tall too and he pretty much every week -- very much every but I would whom Crable. On the guy who looks like he has supremely upright on. Yeah every there's all right and I let them at a fancy at the fans weren't happy about it Andy and we talked -- if that part of it was as Connor. Well a lot of games that aren't totally totally different player they got mail right was in I'd linebackers you you know had to put to win I'd like that the -- and this guy plays a whole different position and to honor. And not a slam on on a you know a fine player in his own right but. I think they're one of the things that really stuck out everybody was still kept saying he would. And I think that you know in the right to be with you when Tom and I kept thinking -- was St. Pierre would. Purely based on my body the body type -- tall thin I don't think he was comparing him as players whatsoever well let's yeah closer we had hoped and some people think that -- Japanese guy and the third round that won't play for three years wait hear what yet."

Play from 14:10[14:10]" Exactly Pierre Pierre -- you know pearl is in abilities that he shown so far in the field was it was a rookie free agent but not forget he was even -- draft. Crable a third round pick you gotta assume that he's got at least more potential to make a contribution quicker and maybe even better then then -- sure we should say yeah. We all agreed on the -- it real love it we all sort of agreed on the -- can that we were surprised thought maybe it was a little bit of reach like the players thought it was a reach because of the -- the Crable is where we sort of start to go in different directions I think the three of -- really liked that it like to we saw from him retreat I I really liked it Tom not a big Crable -- didn't think he showed up enough that -- disappeared. Really in his in his pre draft stuff on pages dot com -- to pass on this it was sort of different there. We also sort of differed on the -- it here with that quarterback Kevin O'Connell. Who the first person -- lost after him with one. Eric Al Levine I like this as very I think it's appropriate in the LA frontline phenomenal come behind phenomenal athlete. Total package run the row I'd been likening him to another Eric LV a favorite Ben Roethlisberger and that -- he runs. When he had asked when he had -- in Diego -- they -- he was that easily crushed Russian -- why he was very open on his conference call saying -- I had -- in the NFL I want to throw it but he has the ability to run to get himself in position to throw and that's what intrigues me it's really amazing when he watches film to see. You don't really see quarterbacks that -- politically moving around especially when they roll out and in trying to get out of situationally at 65 and as his exact that's where -- was going at 6522 point five mean that relief freakish some of the scouts and worth the come by comparing him because for lack of anyone else compared to Vince Young in his athletic ability yet. But he anxiety already at this point had a better. A feel for reading defenses and coverages and young did at the time when he was coming out but you are really like the O'Connell pick I think it it are the right time the patriots to try to find that. Quality back up who maybe if he is the right player in a few years can potentially take over for Brady. If Brady decides the lever higher get hurt or whenever and I think of all the guys they brought in before Cassell Gutierrez even on the other veterans I think this kid O'Connell. Has the potential to be that player that could potentially if Brady goes down or needs to be replaced he could come in and maybe do an effective job."

Play from 16:36[16:36]" I love the pick because I think they've really needed to have a legitimate backup quarterback and am addicted to playing with fire the last couple years you know two quarterbacks on the roster that time in and other times having. You know -- one of those being an inexperienced guy and -- if you had two quarterbacks and you know one of them was you know -- Damon Huard type and I wouldn't be nearly as concerned. I think this guy. Maybe not immediately maybe to take him a little while but I think he eventually is a solid back up to Tom Brady and and -- know depending on how long race around him in his eyes and the man of the future. I just I just in a dugout with what -- that Eric. Pointed out. You watched him run on film and he never ran. Without purpose he -- because. It was the right thing to do he ran because play broke down because coverage wasn't era whatever he he was looking for he ran with the perk not needed to rack up a lot of yards on. You know you know quick and around like Michael Vick you know it is kind of running for the sake of running he ran with a purpose and this guy is a terrific athlete."

Play from 17:37[17:37]" And one other important I think we should make about a O'Connell on his potential. With Gutierrez in castle they both came in having really basically not played at all significantly since high school and we're sort of like out they were Ehrlich a futures project. O'Connell not only was a great high -- he started. Four years at San Diego State it was a captain all four of those years at -- date that's that's almost unheard of in football Breslow and a bad team and a horrible team."

Play from 18:04[18:04]" On the you know they need to build -- out there thing behind -- on the line on -- and injuries and O six but you're right had he not been hurt that year. He would have been you know basically -- almost a four year starter. There -- very productive. 46 touchdowns 34 and options I think some people point that those numbers aren't great but -- on a bad team news plans behind all the time rushed for eleven -- out I'm willing to -- to overlook some of the -- that -- on about the -- that he's going to have a lot better talent around him now and I will say this I think he's going to be a star in the pre season experience going to fall while with. Physical skills now. -- next pick in the fourth round 129 overall Jonathan will -- and the question with him -- matter. 511185 out of Auburn I got to give credit for the that is a good -- the audience of one itself with this one. Another bit of a surprising pick not a highly rated guys one of those guys you turn to draft guys find is his bio and and they don't have them they only include him in like the rest of -- elsewhere in the publication -- talked about as a guy I'm going to respectfully decline it because I don't know a whole lot of bugs might actually Micah he's Erica yeah he's a lot of."

Play from 19:47[19:47]" I don't but seriously in talking -- a couple of as a former coaches and Auburn. The they wouldn't come out and and obviously -- knock one of their players but in reading between the lines the the impression I got was that. He tends to get burnt a little bit deep it right in covered up in short space in confined space he's quick and great. But they said the way they phrase that was he has great recovery speed. -- as a slot corner which to me means that if you put him on the outside and get it he can maybe try to catch up and make up sport but in the NFL you gotta lot of guys who can grow up faster than tells me is going to public -- you if he's good and -- and complain that base after a -- and that's where his coaches that he would probably excel if he were to make it in the NFL would be as a slot and after fourth quarter than it did it there. For the first out of her on the -- like about Jonathan will -- and now I'm intrigued he would you do in the pre season playing in the law. Game away from the outside of the field and maybe he'll be okay. That it. The shocker the honor. -- later on Matthew patriots traded up in the fifth round 153 overall to get a guy who the patriots have listed as a wide receiver but has played. Corner safety in. By most accounts is simply a specialty growing up as a returner according to his own punter which take this for what it's worth -- the rate specialty that that plea to gain the and it leveled at any level. Talk about the pick -- an earlier in -- special team or your former kick your cells and you really appreciate the third phase of the game while interest in because that. You know they brought in last year they broaden Kelley Washington yeah oh definitely was a wide receiver that was his position -- ended up becoming these special teams are almost sort of taking over for Larry is -- And they still here who still here and then they go and sign Sammy in the period from buffalo who by all accounts they special team yes and now they go and trade up in the fifth round to get. A guy who like that played so many positions on both sides that he became known as just a special seamer. Mike what is their room on the team for three or four guys who were just special teams I think he Libyan news he'd have to be he's out extremely impressed and it. I agree but I think Willie Anderson the guy who we all knew didn't really have much admiral in deep and -- though he was on the and he got a mafia front or what that might be that I Israel I think this guy. Now as I earlier this week of the of that progress. He needs to be impressed I mean if you as bill as if you can only do one thing in that special teams he'd be really good. So it'll be itching to see if he stands out in special teams in the pre season training camp is he just a freak athlete that you can put on the field and -- couple roster spot. For a guy who can play receiver not completely be you know really help in the world but he sounds like he's the kind of -- at it that. Belichick always looks for -- that if you tell him play here or played there or plan the other side of the ball. He doesn't care he wants to play an early break Allen practice guys because he'll play scout team and often a team on defense experience vote -- gonna -- he does make the team he he is the odds on favorite to win. Black shirt. -- practice where the weeks -- almost every week through it practice it -- to play for Mosley. -- he had an injury concerns about given up the game -- you -- track -- which they detract very fast track speed don't think Jackie leaders on and think of this big you know do it not alignment 51100 -- pound whoever it is was out here it's 619 BA I'm going by eleven there. But -- the final pick. The only in 36 yard dash back I know their. As I said earlier the famous rambling -- family out of Nebraska. It generation cornhuskers football player bowl rude fans might wreck him recognized the name I know we talked about Barrett. His brother who is with the buccaneers when he was coming out as a potential patriot three to 35 another. Film room -- as he studied more film than anyone in college football sort of learned that growing up -- his brother in the whole football namely. Probably going to be struggling to make the roster I would -- have a tough time inside linebacker -- guy prior will make it. Hard to be cut do enough things in the pre season he practiced a -- guidebook while you're working on this. The root feature -- told his the."

Play from 23:58[23:58]" Coordinator from Nebraska Kevin Cosgrove obvious -- everything that -- that would lead you to believe that coach is going to speaking glowing terms about the player. Hard workers great leader great character Bobble on and on and on -- I mean just didn't have a bad thing to say about the person. Or the player great personality. Now all of -- all around just you know very hard working kid very respectful you know. The -- that kind of struck me you know the guy who played weak side -- front I'd linebacker at Nebraska he took over his senior year for Stewart Bradley who left you know the year before he was third round pick to Philadelphia. He's a very good coverage linebacker which I don't think a lot of guys coming out of college at can say that this guy made some plays in the passing game and he he did rush the passer occasionally but more often than not in the nickel package he was asked to to drop in. And fill out roles and and coverage so I think that -- those skills might. Make him on on what attracted a look at it -- guy a 197 overall as Andy had his odds are long to make the team. But his brother Barrett is. Doesn't have anything athletically on on the according to cause growth there is something in his -- Barrett there is bigger and stronger. But athletically this guy is every bit the equal if not battery -- he had more range on then then Darren did so. I wouldn't early completely closed the door but I think TDs characterization is correct he's got long -- now."

Play from 25:27[25:27]" Especially when you consider the line backing -- that well that's record time so. Yeah I mean it is definitely to launch definitely it will be interest in -- how he can be especially when he compares with with Crable being on the field now you know who might have the -- there. Just critical. Well yeah that that's what you. That's what you think by you know you never know to get the -- and the -- I -- Albion in I mean incredible being out though that you know and might not necessarily beat the comparison -- lead you team going in why I would think yeah. But you know why would why no not a not a football coach would feel I mean notre -- but I -- going into coaching and a couple of years sounds like the guy's gonna make it perfect. High school or college was -- coach does a little bit this respected well -- game I think he'll discuss an overload and he was a coach on the field now to be a coach on the sideline at some point. -- you odds and ends who makes the team now just I hope he does too. I love. People info everybody know what -- football and your route a lot of times I am so a lot of times I have to when the guy you know for the profiles that the later it is on the topic and I always you know I get up the phone with the coaches and I'm -- has got a shot -- not yeah. A lot of them have stuck around Willie Andrews is one of the guys like up the phone with a coach guys that don't all this guy actually and they'll -- you know -- arrest and probably still be here -- I like I don't want to close the book on these guys until I see them are some odds and ends to clean up before we throw back to -- Tim make huge inning of a POW in progress value to title and are there. Tim is that on reportedly for relief. TJ slaughter we hardly knew you and I never saw you never saw it I what I didn't know reportedly released according to the Boston Globe."

Play from 27:10[27:10]" Lots of players will be here this weekend on either a undrafted free agent or. Rookie tryout basis we're not going to report on those the team does not officially released those until the start of rookie mini camp on Friday. The first round pick coaching characterize them -- That's -- mail will be here on Thursday for the ever famous photo opportunity. Then Friday Saturday will have rookie mini camp we will be doing podcasts over both -- practices so it'll be our first chance to see these guys who get a chance he met later he if he's a great athlete and he's going to get it done. -- later will be here along with -- mayo and many other of the rookies. It'll be an exciting weekend we urge you to tune in for the podcast because we will have a first and honest assessment. How the draft is going to turn out down the road won't happen again the full list of undrafted free agent tryout players. Sure we try to make this point that if I don't get anything else to talk about. How long ago that I -- about Philip now to a throw that helps out there I think we're recording going to entities you know leaders that you kept coming up appointed it is funny -- that --"

Play from 28:18[28:18]" I -- and I -- and it right. Half that it unconscionable act the appropriate to -- on Friday that rookie mini camp I'd add. They angel -- draft prospect that you like athletic. Go."
