And sports teams like the 97 straight podcast no recurrence keep what you do of the writers patriots football weekly. Tom Allen Paul growth joining me -- hard here to that stadium for a roster report an exciting one this week. -- patriots made a number of big move after rookie mini camp. They signed nose tackle Steve. -- feet -- a veteran two year veteran also signed tight tight end Tyson -- media rookie tryout guys from mini camp. And punter Mike Draco civic another trap that mini camp. They wave tackle Josh Kauffman in defensive linemen and a good friend of mine Carlos at least on. Camp apparently along with a -- Kauffman. So I don't speaks Spanish obviously we don't know much about -- undrafted rookies but. As a second year veteran I'm sure you've you know become familiar with a guy that played in the division last year. I think you actually played like fifteen games for the dolphins tell us a little bit about it on nose tackle Steve to feed him what he brings the heat. Once again with me and I am absolutely nothing adds to what -- minutes I mean I'm in his bio here. Thirteen games he played you tough. Started once twice he started one game for the dolphins last year played in thirteen games six feet. 312 pound -- obviously the other guys who compete for it back up nose tackle spot with you know. Still looking for that guy that maybe can spell in gulf war scored you know worst case scenario a and eight at bill that's Wilfork. Wait I think it was a -- podcast we -- have a lame joke to go with it you know you -- your inability to actually flirt with -- today is really taken -- hard for Paris I got a question for you guys and we all really strongest guy in the draft -- I don't know I'm debut. It gave you a factoid that might -- glow -- that guys and for Ohio State will get you nothing in the NFL nothing. More importantly since we don't really have a lot at about those guys the only guy with a chance of making the team is who. One regular habit I would owe a lot out of that because he's a punter and by the nature of the position if you boom and -- roster but I want to ask you guys as part of the roster report the draft. They'll Baltic at a younger faster defense they targeted linebackers and cornerbacks. I think we all -- those were the two biggest positions of need at this point with the young guys the veterans whenever victor -- and which is the weaker point now heading towards training camp and -- linebacker or cornerback safety. See there returning two starters from last year and another player Brandon Meriweather and pick safety. Well there's only three players you only need to -- would have with -- so that'll be legal -- gains because of them that I just. Depth wise I think right now safety with the three guys you mentioned. But depth wise I think after adding everybody -- that line that -- quarter to lead that's the either way I would look at it is they do you have two starters and even have a pretty good back up in Meriweather or in some combination of those three. Corner the returning starters a guy that. Us we've questioned over the years we just left a PFW luncheon upstairs -- I had a fan tell me. Is it just me or does -- think I've talked -- a security -- there's only that we be -- it is. All of them Philadelphia to fullback and I would I. I would go corner that would be night because I think we're returning a guy that we all like how we played in didn't like how we developed last year. And whatever you think a week Lee and how quick he looked in mini camp and Fernando Bryant and he tells me he's going to be -- why buy it hook line and sinker. I mean there's a chance your corners are real --"

Play from 4:16[4:16]" That's a pilot and I think that maybe that there's a bigger chance for the weakness of -- corner -- and linebacker but I think in general. The depth that bald spot was address and and I think that if things pan out I think they'll be okay but I don't feel that much better of follow the linebackers then and I do -- the quarterbacks as you you you pointed out that you think if Ellis Hobbs and you know what what you're trying to -- you know does that Rico while by playing in the background Toronto I don't more distracting than that Mexican -- what seriously what is wrong when he served okay got. I just hate the I don't think they're Hobbs is that much of a it much more the question I've been wondering if victor ops is going to be able to be a legitimate daughter -- with Gretzky at this stage of his career I don't think Bruschi you know a sure thing. So I think and depth there with -- being signing Crable -- haven't been drafted in table being Japanese -- you might -- those -- which position -- I think -- his -- but I don't feel any -- really about either one until actually you can get out -- Actually -- I mean I think you have two very good players linebacker on the outs with Thomas and really -- and may be. One of them on the inside depending on what you need to do or want to do work you know are boyfriend Vince read prize in training camp and he's a starter you move on those guys inside. But you know I look at corner I think you could have to question I mean. We really going to say that okay week to week jealous -- as the strength of our corners and the other starter is the weakness I don't think that's going to be case I don't think that -- do a command Ellis -- the guy you can count on particular Hobbs is -- is that guy he should start. I don't think you guys or all out on that. -- repeat that. But the good news is the patriots had the number one pass defense in football last year. That -- all -- lot it was taunted Samuel and all pro corner but I mean in theory yet the number one -- football one player shouldn't make a difference and you -- you know it. With the youth with Wheatley and you know I don't know well I don't know that would not -- him. In and you add the veterans with Bryant in Webster and and I don't know maybe the Anders someone else. And then you have Brandon Meriweather I think is kind of an X factor in the whole secondary situation because. I think he could get a lot more out of him this year and with a year to kind of -- that we a lot of patriots do. Where he makes that contribution I don't know maybe it's just to -- an extra defensive back and up -- but he solid guy you know solid nickel back. -- to play in the body to play acting as if he he can play maybe even in the mix as starting corner I don't know I think he's going to -- a lot more RA and four wrap this up."

Play from 6:52[6:52]" Tom I'll answer your safety concern for one thing. I've seen Bill Belichick make a -- that were good enough. I'm of the belief you can't make corners that a good enough. He Artrell Hawkins the take Eugene Wilson make him a safety but there used to being told me that we need to to safety and all -- who want to win all -- goal well if we're going to go by positions they don't have a -- that really on the rosters of -- at the weakest position I agree maybe that's the difference between them winning two -- not winning them they need a -- address that -- I agree broken face masks and all. Going to wrap up another exciting exciting offseason roster report podcast -- patriots dot com. Check in again next Friday and maybe the manager Laurie -- he will be back."
